Mystery surrounds the future of Blackburn Rovers boss Kean
8:07am Monday 21st May 2012 in Blackburn Rovers & Premier League Table & Results
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean’s Blackburn Rovers future remained a closely guarded secret last night – although he is expected to remain in an influential role at the Ewood Park outfit.
The under-fire Rovers boss has been the subject of mass speculation following two days of talks with Venkys in India but both he and the club owners have remained tight lipped.
Discussions are understood to be continuing between Kean and Desai about how to move the club forward, with changes expected in the coming days.
Ewood staff, players and board members were still in the dark last night, despite Kean having been back in England since Friday, as confusion grew over his managerial future.
The confusion was summed up by two national newspapers yesterday, one reporting he would stay as boss and the other saying he would be removed as manager.
Co owners Venkatesh and Balaji Rao, along with advisers and board members, are understood to have been strongly urging a managerial change for months now and grown increasingly frustrated.
Club matriarch Anuradha Desai retains the final say and fears were growing among the anti Kean lobby last night that he had won the battle.
Venky’s insiders were confident over the weekend that Kean would be removed as manager and offered a new role within the club, after guiding Rovers to Premier League relegation.
Australian cricketer Brett Lee, who had lunch with co-owner Venkatesh Rao on Friday, even tweeted about Kean’s removal as manager.
But, with no word from Kean or Venky’s chiefs, reports are growing that Kean will retain his influence, either as manager or in a slightly different role.
Sources close to the poultry giant bosses remain adamant the initial plan was to remove Kean as manager but admit the delay has surprised them.
Should Kean retain significant influence at Ewood, the Lancashire Telegraph understands several of the current hierarchy would review their own roles at the club.
Kean has his own management team in mind and, if given the nod by Desai, would look to put that into place.
Meanwhile Sir Bill Taylor and Coun Maureen Bateson MBE have been unveiled as honorary patrons of the BRFC Action Group, as Rovers fans continue their efforts to ‘get their club back’.
The Action Group will meet with Sports Minister Hugh Robertson on Wednesday, June 13, in London.
Sir Bill said: “Football has its ups and downs. That’s life. We accept that. 2012 is a down of unprecedented proportions.
“Sam Allardyce sacked, departures of John Williams and Tom Finn (and now Paul Hunt), lack of vision, communication and strategy, both on and off the pitch led me to write to the owners in June 2011 and May 2012, unheeded.
“We know our town, its communities and how Rovers fits into this complex web. I welcome initiatives like BRAG. Let’s work together to get our club back, standing proud, by skill and hard work.”
Bateson said: “I would like to endorse and support the efforts of the Blackburn Rovers Action Group. I have met with members of the group and talked to them about the group’s next steps and offered them any support I can give.
“As fans and people of the town who care about the future of our club, we need to pull together, support the efforts of all those who are trying to bring about influence and change and through their efforts give us back the club we love and can once again be proud of.”

Surely the owners know this will not change anything. While Kean is here nothing changes except the intensity of the protests to get rid of him and our current owners.
Seems that Venkys have missed what would have been a good opportunity (maybe their only opportunity) to build a small bridge with the fans by sacking Kean and appointing a proven and experienced manager and supporting him by adding structure within the boardroom.
It looks like they decided that they will just continue as is...which is the 'recipe' that got us relegated.

In Agnew, we have Kean's puppet and so his influence is strengthened.
To all those people who took advantage of the early bird season ticket offer - thank you - you have assisted in strengthening Kean's position, all for the sake of saving £10, £20 or £30. You could have at least waited for the 'claim your own seat' deadline.
To offset the bad news of Kean and Agnew strengthening their position I now expect a 'fantastic' season ticket offer to tempt people to renew. Maybe something like Charlton did and followed by Burnley i.e. buy one for 2012/13 and if we win promotion get 2013/14 free?
I just hope those with the real interest of Rovers at heart hold firm for the log term good of the Club and don't renew until these parasites are no longer at Ewood.

Keeping Kean on in any compacity will antoganise the fans further, lead to losses of more supporters, more protests and more boycotting. DOES DESAI UNDERSTAND THIS????
-
Does she actually realise that Kean got us relegated and Kean is not the man to get us back into the premiership?
I think I am living in a parallel universe in which a manager gets a club relegated after 11 years in the division. He sets records for the lowest win % of any Rovers manager in history and the longest run of games without a clean sheet. The owners then back him, call him unsackable against massive losses of fans who all want him removed. DO THEY REALISE HOW CRAZY THIS DECISION ACTUALLY IS?

The faith I have in those who purport to own the club in rebuilding is at such a low that I doubt it will recover in my life time such is my anger toward them.
For them to wipe it out over 18 months is nothing short of criminality and, a total and utter disregard for those who have and do support the club.
In short they have got away murder.
Once they have finished moulding this club into their own vision goodness only knows what the image will be ?

Venkys apply their normal business model to the club; i.e. cuts costs and improve long term margins. The majority of Rovers' costs are players wages and the club had one of the highest wages to income ratio of any club anywhere in the country. Kean was therefore given the difficult task of cutting the overall wage bill while staying in the Premiership, if possible.
Cutting wages is not straightforward. League and FA rules require that a club plays its strongest team in any competitive match. So Kean holds back on playing the likes of Salgado and Nelson while these high wage earners are removed from the club. But he can't tell anyone what he is doing or he risks sanctions from the Premier League and FA. A wiser man would have just kept his mouth shut and said nothing but Kean replaces the truth, which he cannot tell, with the usual lies and over positive statements. For the same reason, Venkys say nothing about their strategy for the club.
Venkys are prepared to risk relegation rather than inject their own cash during the transition period of lowering the wage bill. After all, relegation gives the opportunity for any remaining high earners to walk away at no cost to the club. That explains why Kean was confident of keeping his job even after relegation, it was an already agreed scenario with the owners - although I am sure all would have preferred Premiership survival if possible.
The club then rebuild the playing squad with a substantially lower wage bill and put it on a more secure long term financial footing.
Kean is retained because he has done what was asked of him and because he remains positive of a return to the top flight with his new cheaper team.
Venkys stick to their original plan of keeping a manger long term to take the club through this transition period.
Whilst ordinarily we might all applaud such a loyal long term approach by the owners to the manager, in this case we all feel that Venkys appointed the wrong man in the first place.
If I am right, could Venkys not have communicated this transition strategy to the fans? Probably not, for the reason stated above that it would have signaled deliberately playing a weakened team from time to time. Had Rovers not been relegated then the clubs that were would surely have launched an appeal to the Premier League. So instead of a well communicated long term plan to put the club on a more secure financial footing we have owners who say too little to the fans. In any other of Venkys' businesses that would not have been a problem, chicken farming and pharmaceutical manufacture doesn't normally attract paying supporters who travel to the farm each week to cheer on the chickens!!
Is any of that true? Well its more logical than some explanations I've read.
Does it mean the club is safe in Venkys hands? Maybe.
Will I be renewing my season ticket next year? No, I'm off to watch some non league football next season where hopefully money has not yet corrupted the game.

We the fans mean nothing and I can only assume that the income from gate receipts, merchandising etc is jst seem as a bonus.
I am aware of one coroprate client who has been offered their renewal package at 20% of what they paid last year but they have turned it down. The club are fully aware of this, yet asre still keeping Kean in some capacity.
Although the theory of asset stripping has been ridiculed by many, I can only assume that the owners intend to make money somehow. That now has to be by taking the parachute money, selling players and reducing the wage bill further.
I hate to say don't support the club, but it is no the club as we know it anymore. I think we have to take the view that BRFC for now does not exist and we have to boycott the owners and Kean.
I do not think for one minute any true Rovers fan supports Kean or Venkys.

Ok so here's the likely explanation (my guess only).

Second chance: Kean survives Blackburn axe...and gets boardroom ally
Ally Paul Agnew has been put on the Rovers board to help support the under-fire manager in the Championship
Survivor: Steve Kean has managed to keep his job despite fans' frustration
Getty
Steve Kean will be given a second chance at Blackburn Rovers - with top ally Paul Agnew put on the board to back him.
Kean survived attempts to sack him after relegation and owner Mrs Anuradha Desai has supported him even more by putting ‘troubleshooter’ Agnew into a senior role.
Agnew was director of communications and also a key right-hand man for Kean during a tough season when senior officials within the club tried to force him out.
Now Rovers fan Agnew, 54, will be put into a bigger position and with a chance of improving relations with an unhappy group of fans.
Agnew wants to help Kean and also let the supporters know more of the club’s plans after frustration about a lack of word from their Indian owners.
Kean survived the latest attempt to oust him on a trip to Pune despite secretive bids to have him replaced and a new manager brought in.
Mrs Desai will also give him a budget for Championship players and there may be other behind-the-scenes changes in the fall-out from the Kean backing.

If they sell all our best players and then put the club up for sale, then the answer is obvious. They will be using the Rovers to prop up their ailing chicken empire. If they sell and hang on in there, bring some more players in to get us back up then the rumours are untrue.
Either way it will all come to fruition shortly.

Surely he already has his own management team in place (Eric Black,Brunskill etc.). Why this is so, no one has any idea. So, we are left to speculate, and speculation leads to rumour, conspiracy theories, paranoia etc.
If they would just hold a Q&A forum with Andy Cryer that would go some way in building some sort of bridge (as flimsy as that would be).
By him defending his position and obviously claiming he can lead us straight back is in no way a conspiracy or double dealing or corrupt, as that is how any arbitrator would see it.
It is simply a owner keeping faith with their elected manager, and in doing so would gain plaudits from many (who don't or don't want to see the bigger picture).

I hope KDG is right and that it will come to fruition shortly, but I fear that the chaos is set to rumble on.
Next we'll have some more p1ss poor platitudes about "re-organisations and trying to keep best players, and looking forward to a pre-season tour of Pune", leading to a squad that disintigrates by August. Then it will be "experienced players let us down, because they wanted to leave, so now we have to give our fantastic young players a chance and build for the future".

Seasideblue wrote:its an intersting scenario - but it is full of ifs buts and maybes (as are all the other theories too).
Ok so here's the likely explanation (my guess only).
No, I'm off to watch some non league football next season where hopefully money has not yet corrupted the game.

however, it doesn't go any way to explaining the stuff about vekevic, formica and rochina not playing. it doesnt explain why we had massive agents fees, it doesn't explain andersen's supposed role and supposed subsequent abandonment - yet retaining his client as #1, it doesn't explain the team being unfit, it doesn't explain kean being tactically incompetent, it doesnt explain why everyone except mrs. desai recognises that kean has a 666 birthmark on his backside, and it doesn't explain why the likes of paul hunt were not in on the act. as deputy ceo - you would have thought he was on message - and yet even last december - he was oblivious to your theory.
If the plan is to get back into the premier league, then, IF we ever get back there, we will AGAIN be required to pay the going rate (transfer fees, wages), or face a mass exodus of our best players. It just becomes a vicious circle if you don't pay the going rate.

I hope KDG is right and that it will come to fruition shortly, but I fear that the chaos is set to rumble on.
Next we'll have some more p1ss poor platitudes about "re-organisatio
ns and trying to keep best players, and looking forward to a pre-season tour of Pune", leading to a squad that disintigrates by August. Then it will be "experienced players let us down, because they wanted to leave, so now we have to give our fantastic young players a chance and build for the future".
1. Their lack of understanding that you cannot just apply a generic business model to league football where there is always a threat of relegation (i.e. incompetence as owners).
2. They appointed an inexperienced manager who was and is not up to the job (i.e. incompetence as a manager).
3. They've been taken to the cleaners by a certain agent who has no doubt milked them for as much as he can get (i.e. greed).
I may be wrong of course, but I don't believe the asset stripping theories. Venkys have staked their reputation on being big time premier league club owners with a club that won the premier league and at the moment that reputation is in tatters. I am pretty sure their intention was to be in at the start of developing professional football in India's huge potential market. Sadly their ignorance and arrogance has just made them look stupid while the club, the town and the fans have suffered the consequences.

Remember that at least with him as manager he has to face the media immediately after the match and prior to it in press conferences too. These are instances where he reveals himself to be the incompetent individual he is. The Mirror article of 8th May (titled: Kean-oh! A Rovers fan picks apart 20 damning Steve quotes) which exposed his lies is an example.
If, however, he were in a backroom/office role then he would not be scrutinised nearly as much and there would be no cameras on him. Without this scrutiny he could engage in more lies, and indeed dubious activities. He is a parasite, but at least with him as manager he carries out his parasitic activities in the glare of all Rover’s fan, which will act as something of a restraint on his actions.
Kean staying in a non-managerial role is not just bad news, but genuinely dangerous news. He must be get rid of entirely (as must Venkys). Intensified protests and a total boycott must continue until this takes place.

They appointed a man to operate in a results business, he abysmally failed, resulted in relegation, with a serious loss of income and a no doubt fire sale of players. The club have become a laughing stock in the media and the supporters are literally in revolt. How can these people fail like any other business would and grasp the situation, act and show him the door, rather than dither and even consider changing his role? What half decent manager would sign up with him still pulling the strings? They are clueless and we are doomed as long as this mess goes on.

Had it been known, then there is no way that the fans would have wanted Venkys as owners in the first place.
The big question is; was this the plan that Jerome Anderson sold to the Venkys in the first place? Is this their continuing plan?
Was any consideration given to the fans though? If it was at all, then I'm guessing it came well down the list of other considerations. Top of the list would be how much all these greedy selfish leeches could bleed from this club and it's prestige. They are nothing less than parasites.
Jerome Anderson = leech
Steve Kean = leech
And unless something begins to change rapidly, then it's looking more and more like Venkys can be given that tag too. Otherwise they need to tell us or show us why they're not.

2. Losing by 7 at Arsenal (thats what happened to SA after being beaten by 7 at United)
3. Tarnished the club by being prosecuted for drink driving
5. Relegating BRFC to the Championship
4. Slandering SA in public
Add to all that the issues with public fall outs with players and god only knows how he still has a contract, and sane company would have taken good legal advice and binned his services without fear of compensation.... there is only one reason I can see this hasn't happened and that is he MUST have some kind of investment connection to BRFC!!!!

If Keano goes upstairs, who is the experienced manager to get us back into the Premiership ? On the one hand there are several out-of-work would-be's - McCarthy, Coleman, Curbs, Bruce - but they'd all cost money and also have to buckle down to accepting Keano as overall supremo.
The cheapo solution is Black, he fits the bill, low cost and Keano croney.
The most awful prospect is that deluded Ms Desai might have bought the notion of "unlucky" relegation and has given Keano the chance to get us back into the Premiership.
So as long as Venkys are there, it will take another disastrous season before the staggering truth dawns, namely that Keano couldn't keep Stanley in the 2nd division.
By the way, that's where I'll be next season, giving Stanley my hard earned shilling.
I am praying every night that financial catastrophe overtakes Venky Rovers; it's the only way of hastening a better future.
No one will buy Rovers at Venkys price and though I support the Community Club idea, there's no way such a consortium could buy-out Venkys.
The "seeing the Minister" is a nice little bit of propaganda but won't affect Venkys in the slightest.

However, cutting the wage bill had to be part of a strategy for the long term, but so did keeping the customers happy.
Seasideblue wrote:Where in your assumptions do you face the fact that Venks don't consider fans' opinions on anything, and are quite antagonistic in their solutions? If many of these problems were accidental, they would be sensible to make up for their mistakes, but choose to ignore anything they have created and carry on regardless. If they are not to learn from their mistakes, they are steamrolling the club in a different direction than is sought by everyone who cares for it.
Ok so here's the likely explanation (my guess only).

Maybe thats why they've appointed a communication bod?
They did though say this when a while back, it is unlikely that a company like Venkys that made its money from scratch instead of inheritance or drilling out of the ground, unless they know its a worthwhile investment.
Few of us can see any silver lining at the moment and with good reason, but at this moment in time I would be happy for Venkys to realise that Kean has lost the respect of the supporters and whilst they may want to retain his services, a change of manager is a must - hopefully someone who can quickly restore the faith of the supporters by changing the game and getting us the wins that we have been missing under Kean.
For all the bluster, anger and outrage of the fans, we are a quickly forgiving if maybe not forgiving lot and we will get behind you if you show us that you can make it work this season and get us, if not back, then on the road back to the premiership.

Not putting money in and losing that balance is to the detriment of the football club, even if there is an alternative low-wage business model. All this talk of 'putting the club on a sound financial footing' is absolute ****.
Football is about competing and Rovers were doing that. That's why all the fans are so against changing it.
Complicit Kean has to go. Such dishonesty - and to think he is setting up a management structure.

Incidentally as a lover of irony isn't it strange that Kean, who has been an unmitigated disaster for 18 months at Rovers, is still there while a man who has guided Chelsea to their Champions League victory still hasn't secured a permanent job there. As Jimmy Greaves would have said, "It's a funny old game, Saint".

Look at Fergie and what he has achieved in the game and then look how red his nose is. I’m not saying having a red hooter is the be all and end all in football management, but you have to admit it does go to show that you can drink AND be successful in the football game.
I say you should keep Kean – you lot just haven’t given him a chance yet. But instead of berating him, and calling him “Keanochio” and “Gollum” and "alkie". How is that constructive?
Get Dalglish and Souness in - working under Kean's guidance to help with the running of the team –I know Dalglish had a bad season but with Souness in attendance to help him I think it could work. Dalglish has a lot to offer to the game still and remember what he achieved with Backburn before.
Colin Hendry should get his chance as well in some capacity. He could train the defenders, Souness the midfielders and Dalglish could train the creative midfielders and strikers. One exercise I thought might work is the old “keepie uppy” with cans of beer. First with empty cans but then to raise the skill level with full cans. The first man to drop the can has to open it fizzing into an eyeball of his choosing and then down it in one. They’ll soon learn not to drop the can and pretty soon you’ll have a team that can perform keepie uppy with a full beer can better than any team in the land. Unless Arsenal do a similar thing in which case you’ll have the second best team in the land.
But getting back to Scotsmen – which you lot seem to have some kind of problem with. How about getting Gordon Strachan to work underneath Kean in some capacity as well as Souness and Dalglish and Hendry? I’m sure he will offer a level of ginger truculence which will challenge the Venky’s dominance. Perhaps Kean’s weakness – and this is his only weakness in a strong skill set, is that he is perhaps unwilling to tell it to the Venky’s straight. This probably comes out of good manners and respect, the mark of a good upbringing.
Also, I think they could establish a Boot Room, you know, the Boot Room that worked so well at Anfield? Where they would sit and drink whiskey and discuss tactics. Souey, Kean, Hendry and Strachan could prosper in this sort of environment.
I would draw the line at Alan Hansen though. I just don’t think the man has got it in him. He’d never last 2 weeks at the club because although he’s Scottish he doesn’t have the character of a real Scotsman. He isn't really a "man" at all, as I would define one.
They could put a dart board in the Boot room and get Jockey Wilson to join them. I know Jockey’s become withdrawn from society recently , but maybe they could put a bed in the Boot Room and let jockey live and sleep there so when they come down after a home victory to celebrate with a few pints o’ heavy, Jockey would already be waiting for them to play darts, with a smile and a toothless grin with a bottle of Bells whiskey in his hand. It’d be great for morale.
Or would you rather have the namby pamby politically correct Gary Lineker in charge? You probably would.
You see I get the impression with you Lancastrians that you’ve allowed yourselves to be walked all over by these new owners. This could never happen in Scotland.
Or indeed in Yorkshire. If this were Leeds, if the supporters wanted the owners out they would darned well drum them out of town. They’ve got that bit more fire and passion in them have the Yorkshire folk. And they don’t allow people to take liberties.
Blackburn supporters take note.

If we were looking for confirmation on whether Kean remains or not - there it is.
The 'best' we can hope for is that Kean moves into an academy position, where the poison will be less detrimental to the first team.
Its more likely he will be Director of Football, on the board of directors, with some muppet of a coach acting on Kean's orders. Step forward Eric Black.
Kean will probably welcome the move. He keeps his salary and influence at the club, still basically determines transfers/team selection but can hide away and let someone else take the abuse next season. He knows he's a failure, time for somebody else to be the focus of the media attention.
Why the delay in announcement? I imagine its partly due to the abysmal communication at the club but more because Kean is all too aware of the reaction that will occur when it is confirmed he is staying at the club. So he has a 5* holiday with OUR club's money, comes back in a week or two and then gently lets the news out, hoping that when he does the media spotlight will have moved on to the Euros etc. and people can forget about the Youtube video and his horrific performance as 'manager'. He's not as stupid as he sounds and looks.

however, it doesn't go any way to explaining the stuff about vekevic, formica and rochina not playing. it doesnt explain why we had massive agents fees, it doesn't explain andersen's supposed role and supposed subsequent abandonment - yet retaining his client as #1, it doesn't explain the team being unfit, it doesn't explain kean being tactically incompetent, it doesnt explain why everyone except mrs. desai recognises that kean has a 666 birthmark on his backside, and it doesn't explain why the likes of paul hunt were not in on the act. as deputy ceo - you would have thought he was on message - and yet even last december - he was oblivious to your theory.
If the plan is to get back into the premier league, then, IF we ever get back there, we will AGAIN be required to pay the going rate (transfer fees, wages), or face a mass exodus of our best players. It just becomes a vicious circle if you don't pay the going rate.

Until venky's,kean & anderson are completely out of blackburn then we will be able to move forward & until then i am afraid we are in danger of losing our club.

Seasideblue wrote:Pretty much spot on. Venkys do not have a sinister agenda that some people seem to love to believe, but their communication skills need vast improvement.
Ok so here's the likely explanation (my guess only).

Of course regardless of whose in charge or owner, as unlikely as it seems, if the club was to get back to winning form, you will of course return to ewood will you not?
Or will you continue to cut off your nose to spite your face so to speak and stay away?

Is there nothing Steve Kean will not sink to?
Under pressure Kean has told Rovers owner Mrs Anuradha Desai that he is key to keeping Junior Hoilett at Ewod Park.
Mrs Desai is anxious that Kean keeps the team together, goodness know why, they were dreadful.
There is not a ‘cat in hells’ chance of Kean keeping Hoilett. Hoilett is adamant to go and to go he will. I know that, Kean knows that, everyone knows that but Mrs Desai.
Kean will stoop to anything including lies to preserve 1.3 million per annum salary. Can know one at Venky’s see this?
His foul mouthed rant on You-Tube should have been enough in itself to sack him.
Who wants a uncouth, foul mouthed lout as manager of your football club. Apparently the deluded Mrs Desai does.
Neither I nor any of my family and friends will be sitting foot into Ewood Park whilst this lying, conniving, foul mouthed, uncouth lout is in charge.
What type of people does Mrs Desai employ in her company? What type of people does she think we are to except this man in charge of our football club; we are not poor uneducated, lower class peasants. We are intelligent hard working professional people who support our team.
Mrs Desai’s contempt for us is astounding. Our opinion’s count for nothing! Her contempt and dismissive attitude for Blackburn people borders on the worse type of racism. Even the large good and honest Indian community in Blackburn are embarrassed by her continued contempt towards us. She is dividing our multi-racial community by her arrogant attitude.
Blackburn Rovers are no more; they are a club heading for oblivion under Kean. We will plunge into the third tier of English football and out of sight forever.
I was ridiculed and abused when I forecast at the beginning of the season relegation from the Premiership was a certainty under Kean. Do not ignore me this time.
Kean has to go or it will rest in peace Blackburn Rovers.
Reg.
Footnote:
By retaining Kean Mrs Desai by association agrees with Kean’s comments that Sam Allardyce is a crook. I hope Big Sam sues the arse off both of them.

The problem with the "long term" Venkys' plan theory, is that it is based on Keano getting us back into the Premiership based on a much reduced playing staff in terms of quality. The good youngsters from the Youth team aren't ready enough (Kids don't win the Championship), so it means cut price signings.
Let's make Venkys accountable for their grossly incompetent actions by simply not renewing our tickets and by staying away !!!

What’s wrong with a hard drinking Scot? You say it as if drinking is a bad thing. I bet you all like the odd jar on a Friday after work.

Bellend of the Season 2011-12
Having already asked you to cast your votes for the piffling matter of Player of the Season below, it`s time for the most prestigious and talked about gong of the close season. The coveted Bellend of the Year trophy. In its fourth year on Vital Arsenal, the past hall of famers set an impressive benchmark of bellendery. Inaugural winner Phil Brown has happily disappeared permanently to his sun bed having suffered the ignominy of two sackings since he was crowned. Alas, no such luck with the king **** of 2010 Tony Pulis and 2011`s prize **** Sepp Blatter.
2011-12 has seen an absolute feast of folly. We`ve had Roger Johnson- a centre half who has now experienced successive relegations with different sides- turning up "tired and emotional" at training. Then we have Alex McLeish gifting the players and supporters at Villa Park some of the most eye bleedingly soulless football the country has ever known. But their incompetence is small fry compared with some of the exploits at Liverpool F.C. this season. As if paying £20m for Stewart Downing isn`t criminal enough, we have the fallout from the ugly Suarez fallout. The independent investigation document showed that Liverpool had not exactly been forthcoming with the media over the Uruguayan`s precise mutterings, but the unedifying sight of the players and the manager- a man in his 60s- wearing a tee shirt featuring the profile of his own employee was as sartorially ill advised as it was a PR shambles.
After Suarez was subsequently found guilty, the refusal to shake Evra`s hand and Dalglish`s series of pithy, unnecessarily spiky interviews have dragged the club`s name through the dirt. Fenway have quietly acted, forcing their manager and their rather objectionable striker to apologise, whilst Liverpool`s Director of Communications has received his P45 along with the Director of Football who thought Jordan Henderson was worth folding money.
More amusing acts of absurdity have been in plentiful supply too. St. Totteringham`s Day caused us Gooners to delve into the archives and have a right good root around for some premature posturing from the cocky ****. Rafa van der Vaart confidently predicted that Arsenal had "no chance" of finishing above his Tottenham side back in October. Journalist Henry Winter put together his own fantasy "North London XI" and decided that van Persie was the only geezer wearing red. But perhaps this piece from The Mirror`s Darren Lewis penned back in February is my favourite. . Can I get an "LOL, **** please!" in the place?
Boss eyed wide boy John Terry doesn`t have to do much more than appear in front of a camera with that "what me guv?" look smeared all across his chops to guarantee himself a mention for Bellend of the Season. But true to form, Terry has happily plotted the demise of a young manager for not tickling his belly often enough, almost cost his side a place in the Champions League final due to his own brand of sociopathic selfishness and currently awaits trial for racially abusing a fellow professional. All in a year`s work for one of football`s most detestable and shameless individuals. Still, his delightful assist and grass eating celebration as van Persie skipped away from him at the Bodge in October was heart warming in the extreme. Maybe if Chelsea stopped singing about mowing the meadow and actually did it, their captain wouldn`t feel the need to get down on his knees and tend the grass with his teeth?
However, the ultimate accolade for Bellend of the Season is a shared one. A quartet of colluders that have conspired to rip the heart, soul and remaining vestiges of quality from a previously pleasant, family run club with all the grace and poise of a poultry farmer plucking the feathers from its pheasants. Whilst it`s true that Blackburn Rovers have recently had bona fide bellends such as Mark Hughes, Fat Sam and Robbie Savage in their employ in recent years, the Lancashire club was a steady, respectable Premiership club run with dignity by John Williams. Williams was a man that appreciated Jack Walker`s legacy and Rovers were a club that generally did things the right way and with a measure of pleasantness and stability. Since the Venky`s took over, soothsaying into the ears of Rovers fans with promises of Kaka, Ronaldinho and Champions League football on a £5m budget, the soul has been ripped from the club, resulting in its inevitable relegation and continued asset stripping.
Complicit in this act of corporate ABH has been Steve Kean. His never ending delusion (he was still talking about a top ten finish in March) and refusal to admit that his poor management was taking Rovers down had its part to play in Rovers` demise. There are those that scoff about the Blackburn support and their ongoing protests during matches, but they were left with no recourse. The Venky`s constantly refused meeting requests with supporters groups, didn`t answer correspondence over fans concerns and were rarely even in the country to oversee the club`s fall from grace. About the only thing they did do was watch games on the goggle box in India. Blackburn fans were left with no other avenue to make their voices heard as their football club was abused.
Blackburn ended last season with a defence boasting the likes of Salgado, Nelsen, Samba and Phil Jones. Emerton and Jason Roberts were also key squad members. Salgado was frozen out over a contract clause; the others were replaced by the likes of Bradley Orr, David Goodwillie, Anthony Modeste and Martin Olsson`s brother. Kean and the Venky`s are of course linked by agent Jerome Anderson. Many allege that this cosy relationship ensured Kean stayed a yes man to the Venky`s whilst the poultry giants indulged Kean`s shortcomings as a coach and his delusions. (A video has surfaced this week in which he claims to be the mastermind behind the development of Phil Jones, whilst also promising a top ten finish and a Carling Cup). Conveniently, Kean and the Venky`s gave a contract to Myles Anderson- son of Jerome- last summer, with Kean describing him as "possibly another Chris Smalling" due to his late development.
This because Leyton Orient didn`t deem him good enough for a single game in his spell there, whilst Aberdeen let him go after a single appearance. It seems Anderson`s development is still in bloom as he wasn`t selected for a single matchday squad in 2011-12. Kean has been a mere stooge to the whims of some mendacious owners. In January, 2011 in an interview with the Independent, he spoke in soothing tones about "marquee signings."
"I think it is only a matter of time before there is a major landmark signing," he said. "Because they are paying the wages, the owners will give me a list of players that we could get but no player will come to this club unless they have something to offer.
"If Ronaldinho had decided he wanted to come, I would certainly have had to meet him and find out his thoughts about work, how often he wanted to train and make sure it was every day and with the rest of the squad. If there is going to be a marquee signing, it can`t be someone who`s just coming to graze."
Unless Anthony Modeste is a marquee signing, then this quote represents a double bind. Either the Venky`s were lying to Kean, at which point he really ought to have walked away on principle. Or else he was complicit in this fabrication and, even worse, was willing to be the front man for him. At best, Kean is a puppet for a trio of cowboys (Indian cowboys, who`d have thunk it?), at worst, he`s sporting spurs and a wide brimmed hat himself in making up the four horsemen of Blackburn`s apocalypse. The truly terrifying thing about the Venky`s is that it could happen to any club. Given the absence of any proper "fit and proper person`s test" pretty much anybody can buy a football club. Not all investors are necessarily benevolent, but Blackburn fans got the rough end of the pineapple when they ended up with the ventriloquist Venky`s and their puppet Kean. A 137 year old football club, founding member of the Football League and top flight champion as little as 17 years ago has been brought to its knees in little under 18 months. That`s quite the hatchet job, from comfortable family run football club to farce. Rovers fans are nervously eyeing up the likes of Portsmouth and Plymouth and wondering what`s in store for the future. For that reason, the Venky`s and Steve Kean are well earned proprietors of the Bellend of the Season award. Perhaps they can use that gong to attract Eden Hazard to help with their promotion campaign next year? LD.

The Mighty Weetabix wrote: What’s wrong with a hard drinking Scot? You say it as if drinking is a bad thing. I bet you all like the odd jar on a Friday after work. Thanks, Mr. Agnew ... sorry, Mrs. Kean.
he left for the big oche in the sky a few wee months back.

Bit about the Wanky's, spot on.
Such a shame that this massive turnaround from the press and other supporters has come too late. At least now they know that us fans were right all along.

Finally, before all the blues start moaning about yet another "dingle" on their site the reason is quite simple: it's just more fun than ours at the moment.
Rovers aren't in the Premier League because they were not good enough as you so smugly put it, you arrogant B*rnley b*stard, it is because they were ripped apart by the Venky's and Kean.
Now f*ck off home.
g and (2) some young kids shouting abuse.
Although another young lad prior to these two incidents and whom served me Tescos was really positive. Wished us well next season and said that he hoped we beat B*rnley home and away; surprised he new who B*rnley were tbh.
My faith in humanity restored and then the above two incidents outlined above.
They way i described them sounds petty but in the heat of the moment it really p*sses me off when people stair, sneer or make sarcy comments based on a football shirt.
I mean, what have Rovers ever done to anyone?
Still, there's been a lot of ill will towards us since Jack Walker bought the club.
At the moment though, i think it's probably because we've been relegated so we're an easy target and also the way we've been smeared in the national media and the way Kean has played the national media has made us look very, very bad and there's nothing the English like more than a witch hunt.
