Blackburn Rovers boss aiming to get out of a Jam
12:30pm Saturday 28th April 2012 in Blackburn Rovers & Premier League Table & Results
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean isn’t planning on playing the blues this summer, after insisting relegation has not even been seriously discussed with all thoughts on staying in the Premier League.
The Rovers boss, who revealed he plays the guitar most nights to help him take his mind off a tense relegation battle, admits owners Venky’s have been on the phone playing the Premier League ‘numbers game’ – as they try to work out what points tally will keep them in the league.
Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Spurs though, Kean insists there is no point in worrying about what has gone on elsewhere earlier in the weekend after admitting all predictions are pointless.
“I play both electric and standard guitar, I’ve been playing badly for eight or nine years,” he said. “It’s something I’ve always been into. I like Paul Weller, all the old school stuff.
“It’s in the house so I just have a little half hour most evenings.
“When you’re rubbish at playing the guitar, you can’t think of anything else!
“It’s a good way to relax though.
“You’re as well not looking at the league.
“Just focus on your own three games, make sure you train well, know the game plan inside out, and just go out and try and get something from each game.
“That’s the best way of doing it otherwise you end up playing mind games with yourself.
“You look at a fixture and think ‘that’s going to go for us’ and it doesn’t. You end up in a bad place.
“You’re as well forgetting about it and going about your own business.”
While unsure whether Venky’s will be putting in an appearance between now and the end of the season, with their club deep in the relegation mire, Kean insists they are watching everything that is happening.
He is adamant though that no plans have yet been made for the worst case scenario as survival remains their only focus, saying: “I spoke with the owners yesterday (Thursday).
“They wanted to know my opinion on the amount of points it will take. It changes every week.
“Four or five games ago it looked like it would be the low 30s, then the mid 30s, now it could end up being close to 40 again. You don’t know. All we can do is be positive.
“They’re watching every game.
“Not just our games but games in and around us. They’re anxious just like everybody else to make sure we get the points.
“It’s easier for us because we’re involved in it and can affect it. We can go out and train, prepare and set up different exercises, give the lads something to focus on.
“The lads know Tottenham are a good team in many different areas but they’ve also conceded goals.
“We can work towards a victory but someone who’s not working at it every day maybe gets a little bit more anxious and frustrated.
“You can never call it. There are so many different permutations, nobody will ever get it spot on.
“The stattos told me six weeks ago that it was 33 or 34 with a good goal difference. Then it’s gone up, and up again.
“There’s going to be a week when most teams don’t get a result and we do, or vice-versa.
“We’ve been through that scenario. It’s very difficult to call but we’ve got to try and get something from every game and we’ve got to beat Wigan. Our plan is staying up. That’s the only scenario we’ve spoken about.”
Rovers are no strangers to the pressure of a relegation battle having only survived last season with a final day win at Wolves.
And, with just three games to go and sitting in the drop zone, Kean believes those past experiences can only help.
He said: “I think it does help.
“The players have been through it before last season.
“At the time, it’s not necessarily enjoyable. But when you come out the other end you think ‘this is what we did to get ourselves out of it.’ This is how we set up, this was how the things were good and not so good.
“And predominately they were the same group so we could call on those experiences.”

This man is delusional. The thing is, even if a miracle occurs and we stay up, no-one wants him at our club. He says relegation has not been discussed...if that is the case, why was he stating his job was safe if we went down, just the other week?
I hate this man and these owners. I have never before considered non-renewal of my ticket. I am now and that saddens me to my core. No doubt I will renew and thus play into the hands of these cretins who have destroyed my our club.

I will blot out all thoughts of BRFC until such time as Kean, the Venky's and the destruction they have brought to our beloved club is but a distant memory. I shall return to the fold when they are gone. I refuse to spend another penny watching it go down the pan. Or at least into the coffers of those dispicable people.
I feel sorry for the staff at BRFC who are more than likely to be picking up their P45's very soon.
Also the rest of the town that helps support the club. The businesses that rely on the success of BRFC.
Just two days to go before the ST deadline, please don't renew your ticket.
Send it back to them with a letter demanding the return of our family orientated premier league club.

We MUST support the team for the full 90 mins, however we must ALL scream and shout come full time and make it clear what we think of Venkys and Kean.
We also need a symbol of our season ticket's (maybe a A4 peice of paper with my season ticket writen on it) which we will chuck onto the pitch come the end, to show we wont renew next year.

He says it's the same group that kept us up last season...where's Salgado, Emerton, Samba, Jones, Nelson you idiot.
Please please please let's do everything we can to get rid of this cancer out of our club. because if we don't get rid now, he will kill us. We are another Pompey waiting to happen and look where they are now.
Forget looking at the League now coz we don't have the fight, nouse or organisation to get out of the sh!t that this moron has dropped us in.
Kean, just leave coz you will NEVER be welcome at Ewood Park.

Now let me explain. This morning at 10.00am when this story was published, you stated that our destiny was in our own hands. If you have a really close look at the league table you're as well not looking at, this morning you may have notice this.
Rovers P 35 Points 31, Bolton P 34 Points 33, Wigan P 35 Points 34, QPR P35 points 34 and Villa P35 Points 36,
You will no doubt be aware that we can possible achieve a maximum of 40 points, in the unlikely event that we will all 3 of our remaining games. What you may have failed to notice is even before todays games assuming we beat them Wigan could get 40 points, Bolton 45, QPR 43 & Villa 45. In case you didnt know that would mean we would be relegated as we could only finish above Wigan and that would mean we would still be in the bottom 3. It is the bottom 3 by the way that are relegated.
After todays results Wigan can still get 40, Bolton 43, QPR 43 & Villa 43. Thats actually means our destiny is NOT in our own hands.
Now I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think you head is right, so it may be a good idea to leave yourself out tomorrow.

You were only ever in an elevated position because of artificial interference. Once that was taken away, you always were going to plummet down through the leagues. It was never, ever going to be any different. So stop kidding yourselves that it was.
Admittedly the current regime leaves a lot to be desired, but it was always going to happen.
Let it happen. Stop whining and try and do this community buyout. That would be something you could genuinely be proud of. The kudos of buying a league title is chicken feed in comparison to the kudos of getting off your backsides and becoming a club which earns it's own successes genuinely and on its own terms.
But for God's* sake stop nattering on about how your 'great proud club has been ruined'. You're making fools of yourselves. It's only anecdotal evidence but I've lived all over the UK and indeed the world and Rovers have for the past 20 years been widely considered a plastic club by many football fans.

Well Jimmy, that is because other football fans are jealous of the fact that a little town club had the audacity to win the PL. and before you say we bought it, name me a team that didn't!
You also have to ask where that money comes from. Arsenal and United have generated value also from their own backs. I.E. - being long standing clubs of achievement with the subsequent revenue streams.
Rover were given it and when they were deprived it, they struggled.
Yes money is a big part of it, but they have earned their money. Blackburn (Chelsea and City) have just had it given to them. Do you really think a football fan looks at Blackburn (Chelsea and City) with any sense of admiration? In your heart you know they don't. They look and say 'yawn, yeah they just had a rich fella buy them and artificially pump them up'.
So I reject your argument. Which by the way, is less an argument than it is a fallacy - http://yourlogicalfa

You've said yourself that Steve Kean is not fit to manage, and that 'the current regime leaves a lot to be desired'. J.Jones surely? Nope, but nothing to fear, the brilliant Petrovic is ready to go.. Roberts? Well no, but he'll be playing Premier League football next season you tool!!
So much for our experience.. Thats more then half the starting lineup from Wolves last season.. Not that it would matter at this point given the situation we're in.. I'm getting sick of this!!

That's my point. Logically they could match it. It simply requires a man with a lot of money to pay for it. Don't think that there was anything at all intrinsic within BRFC that enabled them to win the league. There wasn't. At all. It was as arbitrary as a roulette wheel.

Lets hope the news story on sky sports this morning is true venkys are to sell club for 30 million. Please god let this be true.
30m, the club isn't worth 10m now, all assets have been sold, fans not going to renew STs, 100% championship football next season, the club has been systematically destroyed for the last 2 years, now looks like someone is realising that they should run with the loot before its to late!

Brand (Venkys) promotion? Sorry, I just don't get it. How is the brand to be promoted via the relative wilderness of the Championship?
Regardless of the net result - almost certain relegation, near hysteria about Kean & Venkys, what has evolved at Ewood is beyond belief.
For a football fan or a business person, (or both), a truly astonishing series of decisions.

Lets get our heads out of the sand my friend . All Rovers had to do was run the ship correctly .Whelan isnt pumping loads of money in ,simply running it correctly . I will give you 2 other examples Norwich and Swansea .Rovers fans are being shafted by conman Kean and his Indian chums NEVER FORGET THIS .
and despite what you say I know that Dave Whelan IS still putting money in - not necessarily loads as he once was, but without his current investment they wouldn't survive as a prem club very long....Wigan's gates are too low for that, their pies are too cheap and they don't get cash from any cup runs..!
As for Swansea - they are a good model of frugality. They operate on a very tight budget indeed and they cant spend much on players and they have to train on part public pitches! But with good management it shows what can be achieved.
Plus the Swans own supporters trust owns 20 percent of the club and though they cant raise or invest anymore to increase that stake, something similar could be a good model for us next season maybe..

Wigan is our last home game and our last chance this season to air our voice! in honesty, i sadly think we will be down by then!

The scene is Rovers Brockhall training ground. Kean sits in his office with his feet up on the desk playing "The Camptown Races" on his guitar. A picture of the Emperer Nero on one wall and on the other a chart plotting Rovers progress from a top ten finish to winning the Champions League. The phone rings:
KEAN: "Hello, Brockhall loony bin, er, training ground."
VENKY's: "This is the Venky's. How many points does our team need to stay up, you useless lump?"
KEAN (on phone) (standing): "Er, er just a minute I am out on the training field just going thru a few moves with Scott Dan, just showing him how it should be done. I'll just get back to my guitar studio, er, I mean my office."
KEAN (off the phone) (panicking):"Christ Almighty! What am I going to say? Who do these Indians think I am - Manager of the Month". Where are those Statos?"
STATOS:"We are here you useless lump."
KEAN:"I know we have never talked about delegation, but how many points do we need to stay up."
STATOS: "Low thirties, slaphead."
KEAN: "Right, that should see us in a top ten finish."
KEAN (back on phone):"We need low thirties, your majesties. No need to talk about delegation."
VENKYs:"Excellent! Keep up the good work. We will send you a liitle something. Do you prefer leg or breast?

Ask this arrogant, pompous footballing genius for his appraisal of HIS club BFC ?
Read and scrutinize his context carefully and you will find the devilment that sucks at his very soul for the inability of HIS clubs further success's they enjoyed some decades ago.
HIS words:
'I have lived all over the UK and indeed traveled all over the world and spoken with people who agree that Blackburn bought the Premier League'
Of course , he as ! HIS world amounts to Brierfield, Nelson, Colne, Barnoldswick, Cliviger, Todmorden and the like.
Would he have us believe that in his capacity of traveling this globe HIS focus as been that of discussing all matters BRFC seeking to find hapless listeners willing to agree to that which is alluded to ?
I, indeed have lived all over this country and traveled the world in most capacity's from rubbing shoulders with the creme de la creme to slumming it with the best of them and never in all of my days have I had such conversations to that which he permeates.
I once was said to you never give these fierce rivals an inch or they will in their pompous aloof ways attempt to deride the achievements of BRFC throughout it's history whilst attempting to glorify their own to anyone that will listen.
I bet his bar bill superseded that of HIS earnings convincing all of BRFC matters.
In the mind of this liar, blagger BRFC may not be a :
Great club
Proud club
Etc etc
That matters not a jot but, ask HIM how HIS club are perceived and rad what the smarmy little patronizing prat offers ?
Whatever League BRFC ply's it's trade in the support will remain exactly the same as it always as. My father would marvel at BRFC's achievements in exactly the same way as do the generation that witnessed the Walker era.
Always in the shadows of their illustrious neighbors and history will show that.

You seem to think that because we received financial investment, which subsequently led to achievement, we should now just give up everything that we've achieved since.
You've said yourself that Steve Kean is not fit to manage, and that 'the current regime leaves a lot to be desired'. Eighteen months ago we were a well-managed club with a solid board, and finished in 10th place under Sam Allardyce with very little financial investment at all.
