Blackburn Rovers


The Lancashire Telegraph, in conjunction with Blackburn Rovers are launching the 2009/10 goal of the season competition, The Peter White Memorial Trophy, in memory of the Telegraph’s late Rovers reporter Peter White.

A shortlist of 12 wonder-strikes and great team moves have been drawn up and we want readers to pick your top three.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce will make his own selection and, as a special bonus, those entrants who match the manager’s 1-2-3 in the correct order will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed shirt by the winner and Big Sam.

To enter, simply fill in the form below, clearly stating your first, second and third best goals.

The deadline for votes is Monday, April 26 and the winning scorer will be presented with the prestigious trophy ahead of the final Premier League home game against Arsenal on Saturday, May 1.

  • Pascal Chimbonda, Rovers 3-2 Burnley, Ewood Park, Premier League, 18/10/09. Pascal Chimbonda cuts inside his man before lifting the ball over the advancing keeper and into the far corner.
  • Morten Pedersen, Rovers 5-2 Peterborough, Ewood Park, Carling Cup, 27/10/09. Set-piece expert Morten Pedersen curls a sublime free-kick into the far top corner of the goal from fully 30 yards.
  • Jason Roberts, Rovers 3-1 Portsmouth, Ewood Park, Premier League, 7/11/09. Benni McCarthy picks out Jason Roberts, who coolly tucks home his second goal of the game inside the near post.
  • David Dunn, Bolton 0-2 Rovers, Reebok Stadium, Premier League, 22/11/09. From a quick counter attack, starting from Paul Robinson, David Dunn curls the ball into the far top corner of the net.
  • Nikola Kalinic, Rovers 3-3 Chelsea, Ewood Park, Carling Cup, 2/12/09. Pascal Chimbonda’s cross is stroked in by Nikola Kalinic to put Rovers on their way to a famous penalty shoot-out victory.
  • Martin Olsson, Aston Villa 6-4 Rovers, Villa Park, Carling Cup, 20/1/10. After some nice passing, Gael Givet’s delivery into the box is acrobatically volleyed into the corner by Martin Olsson.
  • Morten Pedersen, Rovers 2-1 Wigan, Ewood Park, Premier League, 27/1/10. After Wigan fail to clear a free-kick, Morten Pedersen rifles a left-foot half volley into the top corner from 20 yards.
  • Nikola Kalinic, Rovers 3-0 Bolton, Ewood Park, Premier League, 21/2/10. Nikola Kalinic powers a first-time shot into the back of the net via the aid of a slight deflection.
  • El-Hadji Diouf, Rovers 1-1 Chelsea, Ewood Park, Premier League, 21/3/10. Michel Salgado delivers a deep cross and El-Hadji Diouf rises above Blues defender Paulo Ferreira to head home.
  • David Dunn, Rovers 2-1 Birmingham, Ewood Park, Premier League, 24/3/10. Chris Samba’s long ball is cleared but David Dunn fires a crisp left-foot volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
