We let ourselves down, admits Blackburn Rovers midfielder Pedersen

Morten Gamst Pedersen Morten Gamst Pedersen

MORTEN Gamst Pedersen admitted: “We let ourselves down” as he refused to blame Blackburn Rovers’ second half collapse at Pride Park on any managerial uncertainty.

Jordan Rhodes’ 35th minute strike looked to be enough for victory until Derby’s Theo Robinson struck an 89th minute equaliser to stretch Rovers’ winless streak to five games.

Pedersen joined caretaker boss Eric Black in being highly critical of their second half display after taking control in a dominant first half – before claiming six points is now a must in two successive home games this week.

Efforts are being made to appoint a new manager in time for Wednesday’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday, although there is no certainty an appointment will be made by then. It is believed global advisor Shebby Singh has given up on landing his favoured target Tim Sherwood, but reports linking Rovers to an approach for Blackpool boss Ian Holloway are believed to be premature.

Holloway is on the club’s short list, and is believed to be interested in the move, but it is understood another option is being investigated first early this week.

Pedersen said: “Whoever it is going to be, it is going to be. I don’t believe any of the rumours until the new manager is standing in front of me and shaking my hand.

“We just have to go out there for ourselves and Eric. He is in charge now and we back him. There is no reason why we shouldn’t win games because we don’t have a manager.

“We have gone out and said we are going to get promoted. We have put pressure on ourselves and now we have to cope with it. We don’t have time to just wait for a new manager.

“I think we played good football in the first half and deserved to score more than one goal. I am disappointed with what we did in the second half though.

“We let ourselves down. We could have scored straight away when Martin got through but it didn’t happen and after that we got too clumsy, and defended too much and didn’t get out of our own half.

“It should not happen now. We should be braver and work harder to get up the pitch. We just have to get ourselves ready because the games come thick and fast.”

Without a win in five matches, Rovers are slipping down the Championship table after topping the table earlier in the campaign.

Pedersen said: “We have to win on Wednesday and we have to win on Saturday. Anything less than six points is not good enough.

“We need points to keep up with other teams. We need six points. That is the only thing that matters to me.

“We have to learn from this. It was good to play and I want to be involved again on Wednesday and I want three points.

“It does not matter how we play or what we do, it is the points that matter. It is not good enough because we should have won the game.

“It is about pride. If you are not interested in doing your job you can sit on the bench.

“We have to get up the pitch, be braver and to take care of the ball more when we have it. We defended well but in the end you can’t do that all the way through.”

Looks like Ollie or Billy in then by Tuesday and just in time for the Wednesday-Wednesday game.

The problem for me at the moment is we are still stuck in last years mentatlity, we are going to teams setting up to keep everything thight, and steal the points, I have not seen us come out with an attcking line up and pound a team into submission except for the first 20 minutes against leeds. Playing Kazom Richards on the right was extremely negative, he should of been playing in the hole behind Rhodes and Riberio should have been on the right. We are too conservative by far and this is allowing teams into games. We did not by defenders so why try to sit back, Eric Black talked about us sitting too deep and trying to push up, well put the players on from the start who can play like that. The next manager has to be attack minded with this squad,

Why won't they go with Billy McKinlay ??

He was Keans fellow coach and drinking buddy at Fulham and according to the Mail on 30th Sept 2011 was nearly appointed Rovers number 2 under Kean.

Our owners are in a constant power struggle - SS fronts for Venkys and (now that SK has gone) Agnew bats for the other 2 owners who can't be named (although one is a former manager with the initials SK and the other is a sports agent with the SEM group who's son is also on Rovers books earning alot of money although he's only good enough to play for Aldershot).

The first question EVERYONE (except that Venky/JA appologist FrenchRover) should ask Billy McK (if he gets the job) is "Who is your agent?" and "Did Steve Kean have a hand in this appointment".

Coincidences - only fools believe in them

The story of the match spells it out, tactically incompetent and unfit. A stand in manager who can see we are defending deeper and deeper but does not know what to do about it. And a key reason we go deeper and deeper? A squad that isn't at peak fitness to go the distance. Singh get on the phone to QPR and ask for permission to talk to Hughes and do whatever it takes to get him and his coaching team back at Ewood. As for billy McKinley, not for us as it would just be a continuation of Kean and Black.

Shearer is coming back up in the betting at the moment. He would be best but Mckinlay should be given a chance by fans if he's appointed.
Who in their right mind would consider someone with no track record is better than someone who's track record includes doing the very thing we need right now, i.e. getting promotion from the Championship.

It is 'no track record' that got us into this !

It is a sad state of affairs when things are so bad that people will clutch at any old straw they are offered.

So after 3 weeks of being manager less, 3 weeks of speculation linking big names with the job, 3 weeks of asking for patience & 3 weeks of insisting you will get the right manager for the job, you approach billy tossing mckinlay!! Nice work shebby, final nail in the rovers coffin! Pluck somebody at random from the stands on Wednesday night and I guarantee they would do 10 times the job you are currently doing and for a fraction of the money you are being paid to destroy our club. Two bloody things shebby
1) manager, not a coach
2) experienced not inexperienced

Coincidences - only fools believe in them
if you do your research you will see this story is not true. never kean or SEM group have any ownership rights to the club..
Yeah course its not right - who's you're dad Paul Agnew ????

Don't tell me, it wasnt true that Jerome Anderson INSTRUCTED Martin Goodman (the, then Rovers financial directer) to make a payment of a few hundred thousand pounds to an un-named party in South America in Jan 2011 - or did sportingintelligence
.com fake that Rovers memo ??

Nobody has ever said Rovers are the only club with accounting irregularities, they are however the only club that matters to many of the posters on here.

Your attitude of 'I'm not happy' but 'that's just football' is an absolute disgrace. You'll be telling us next that Jimmy Saville's o.k. because there are other paedophiles out there.

Should we all sit quietly and watch the club being systematically raped and pillaged by a bunch of immoral shysters, because thats just football ?

I for one hope there are still people in and around the club who can eventually expose exactly what has gone on at BRFC.

Stop bleating Pederson and start talking on the field. You spout the same sort of drivel that used to come out of Keanochio's mouth. The fans are tired of lame excuses, poor tactics and lack of professional application from players who net a fortune to kick a bag of wind around the pitch. SHUT UP AND WIN SOME MORE POINTS BEFORE WE ARE CUT ADRIFT.

Turning to the Manager's position I said some time ago that the acid test would be who Kean's replacement was; getting rid of the bald clown was only a part of the solution. I cannot for the life of me understand why we'd go for another coach who has never managed. The saying "experience is the best teacher" is actually completely wrong. It should read "Applied experience is the best teacher" otherwise you simply repeat the mistakes of the past.

Looks like Shebby & Co are about to do just that. I don't understand either why anyone would say its good news that Fulham turned Rovers down. Whoever they try and get now is going to think "I was at least third choice" behind Sherwood and McKinlay. On that basis why would they want to come? The Venkys are in real danger of losing what small gains they had made after Keannochio left. Sad days

But exactly how do you think its going to get sorted out if nobody is prepared to expose that things at the club are very wrong ?

The people advising the owners are part of the problem, are you one of them ?
