COMMENT: Time to turn to Dunn at Ewood
9:35am Thursday 11th October 2012 in News By Andrew Stephenson
DAVID Dunn must be wondering what has he done wrong at the moment – he probably isn’t the only one either.
The Blackburn Rovers midfielder has been left on the fringes of things as the side struggle to find form in the Championship. If he can’t get into this midfield, when will he ever feature?
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the personnel so far deployed in the centre of the park, in both a two and a three, have not come up to scratch.
Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu have struggled to hit top form while Mauro Formica has continued to have no impact on most matches he plays in.
It has to be said some of the abuse Murphy has received from small sections of supporters is out of order. There is no lack of effort from the former Fulham man – but it just isn’t working.
I am the first to admit I thought Murphy would prove one of the signings of the summer, and maybe he still will, but it must be demoralising for Dunn having to watch others struggle in his position.
For some reason, Dunn is now seen as a second striker. A position he is competing for with the likes of Nuno Gomes, Ruben Rochina and even Colin Kazim-Richards.
I can see why he isn’t getting a look in there but why not give him a chance in the centre of the park. His energy, drive and passion might just get something going.

He is the Homer simpson of the football team. Too many pies and beer.
He needs to stock his fridge with salad and get on the treadmill. Roy Keane did it to prolong his carreer. A slim David dunn would last another 4 years.
Instead of FEED THE GOAT AND HE WILL SCORE it should be STOP FEEDING THE BLOAT AND HE WILL SCORE.

The criticism of Murphy comes from the frustration of watching someone who was a regular in a premiership side now turning out performances that are lacking commitment and quality. He is being out played by average championship midfielders and never looks like making much effort to recover when he looses the ball or people simply run past him.
Rovers fans expect more from their captains, this one looks like he's going through the motions. Swap him out at half time for Dunny and lets see if a kick up the ar5e has any impact.

Bring back a proper functioning board, a proper manager and back room coaching staff and players of the quality we had before Venkys', in their wisdom, off loaded them.
All this will cost a lot of money, but will Venkys deliver ?

We are being made to look ponderous and too predictable. The coaches need to work on the tempo and precision of our passing..MGPand Dunny must be wondering what they have to do play.Get some width when we have possession maybe Vukcevic on the right. Thanks mike

A new manager can hopefully fix the problems with tactics and motivation, and change the coaching staff fairly quickly. But without a massive injection of cash, which just isn't going to happen, It will take 2 or 3 transfer windows to rotate much of the playing staff.
A new board is in the gift of the owners, and who is going to tell them what they need, Shebby ? the guy you wouldn't need if you had a proper board !
New owners is even less likely, is there anybody out there willing to pay a price that Venkys would find acceptable ? If there is they need to get to Pune and sell themselves to Mrs D as a credible and realistic alternative who can give her a dignified exit.

and I am sure that Dunny is the first to admit that his 'legs have gone'.
Any manager simply can't build a team around someone like that and for me any role for Dunny would be as an impact sub.
However, I would certainly have brought him on against Wolves instead of Etuhu.
On the other hand, our other pensioner MGP still possesses the fitness to play in central midfield - although he hasn't got the pace to be a wide man.
Sam Alardyce recognised this, yet Seve Kean played him on the left and on the right side of midfield at times.
For me MGP rather than Dunny should be starting in central midfield.

Murphy rarely lifts his head up far enough to see beyond the person who is nearest to him. As someone I hoped would bring a bit of vision to the midfield he looks to play short, one-touch, and backwards, far too often because his lack of movement means he's always closed down. If he is such a good passer he should find some space, put his foot on the ball once in a while and open the game up. Maybe watch Tugay on youtube.
I agree that the team is lacking fitness, also passion, organisation and leadership, attrbues our 'captain' certainly does not demonstrate or inspire.
