Clemente in Rovers link
9:52am Tuesday 9th October 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
Former Spain boss Javier Clemente
FORMER Spain boss Javier Clemente is the latest to have expressed an interest in the Ewood Park hot seat – with Rovers set to draw up a shortlist of potential managers on Thursday.
Global advisor Shebby Singh has called for patience from Rovers supporters as the search for Steve Kean’s successor steps up a gear this week, with Eric Black staying in temporary charge as the process continues.
A host of big names are understood to have already registered an interest, including the likes of former Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster and ex-Manchester United ace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, although Singh declined to comment on individual names yesterday.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands Clemente has joined the growing list of potential replacements, along with former Sunderland boss Peter Reid, although reports claiming there has been contact with Roy Keane are wide of the mark.
Former Rovers striker Alan Shearer also hinted he would be interested in the role over the weekend but, with no contact made, the Telegraph understands his Ewood return is highly unlikely.
Singh said: “I had a chat with Eric on Monday and we know there is pressure on all of us but it is important we continue working regularly, with Eric and his coaches looking after day-to-day affairs.
“We are in a hurry to make the right decision but we will not rush it. We could make a decision in a week, it could take three weeks, I will not let circumstances dictate.
“I am going to have a meeting with my colleagues on Thursday where we will look at all the names in the hat and draw up a shortlist from there. It could be a shortlist of one, it could be a shortlist of three or four.
“In the meantime I would call for some understanding from the fans. Eric has to be given support, the team have to continue their preparations.
“If we had a game on Saturday, the whole scenario changes, but we now have two weeks before the next game. It has been a very difficult week for Eric, with three games in seven days, and there is a lot of pressure on him.
“He will be taking day-to-day charge while we are firming up what we need to do and we know we are in safe hands.”
Clemente, 62, has spent most of his club career at Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol, winning two league titles and the Copa Del Rey while with the former in the early to mid 1980s.
He was Spain’s manager between 1992 to 1998, while he also managed Serbia in 2006-07 and Cameroon two years ago.
Clemente, who has also enjoyed management spells at a host of other Spanish clubs, is out of work having finished a short-term spell at Sporting Gijon in May.
Rovers’ owners are believed to still be open-minded about their next managerial appointment but are understood to be looking for someone who shares their ‘passing football’ philosophy.

ALAN SHEARER: the choice of fans who want a manager who has never been a manger before (see also Tim Sherwood)
ROY KEANE: the manager most likely to use physical violence in early meetings against Shabby, Venkys, Hendry, etc. Consequently, a very attractive candidate, but unlikely to be favoured. (see also Graeme Souness).
ERIC BLACK: the leading candidate and owners favourite. Studied under the footballing genius Steve Kean and works cheap. No relocation expenses necessary. Does not like to use substitutes during games further reducing overheads.
HARRY REDKNAPP ('arry): likely to be a leading candidate if Ewood Park is moved to Canford Cliffs, Poole. Heavily followed by HM Revenue and Customs.
"KING" KENNY DALGLISH: the strong preference of supporters still in the 1980's. Unlikely to get to the starting gate in time for the "off".
MICK McCARTHY: no bloody good and does not try to disguise it, his candidacy is based upon honesty and plain speaking as his foremost virtues. Therefore, not favoured by the Global Adviser (see Shabby Singh)
SHABBY "GLOBAL ADVISER" SINGH: stupid, but not stupid enough to let himself be put into a position where his job retention depends upon delivering results. Would only be attracted by a more grandiose job title. (see also looky-likey Charlie Chaplin).
COLIN HENDRY: the pick of pensioners fancying a little flutter with their life savings.
IAN HOLLOWAY: why would anyone leave a position at a third rate club with very limited resources, in a woebegone northern seaside resort, to come to Ewood Park under Venkys? The fantasists' choice.
BFS: the rightful manager, but now making too much money now from suing Venkys, suing Kean etc to spend time on job applications.
JOSE MOURINHO: unlikely to wish to be considered because the job is too hard (see also Sir North Stand)
BRENDAN RODGERS: desperate, but not that desperate (yet).
SVEN GORAN ERICSSON: the ladies favourite. Particularly fancied by Mama Desai (see also Jimmy Savile)
OLE GUNNER SOLSKIAR: a very good candidate; very unlikely to get to the interview stage (see BFS)
JOURDAIN ALI: the worst candidate of all; highly likely to be the chosen winner (see Steve Kean)
BERND SCHUSTER: where can you aspire to go after managing Real Madrid? Why, of course, Ewood Park! The bet of those who believe Pep Guardiola is going to be the next manager of Burnley.
MAHATMA GHANDI: likely to find football management (and chicken strangling) morally repugnant.

We've just been put through the mill on the back of someone doing their managerial apprenticeship at our club. I don't think it would be fair on the fans to put them through it all again so soon after Kean's disastrous tenure.
Bernd Schuster would be an interesting appointment, purely for his interviews. He's like a cross between Sir Alex Ferguson and Ian Holloway...

We note Coyle`s coaching staff his assistant and his defensive coach have all been relieved of their duties ,that is the honourable way to change management , instead we have Black/Hendry scaping around looking to take advantage of the guy who hired them , BLACK/HENDRY please give Rovers the chance to rebuild, you two hanging around like a bad smell is counter productive.

Benitez (out of work now and he would come - if he cannot get the Liverpool job off Rodgers this week) - Rafa has an average percentage win ratio of 52% - the highest of all the experienced possibilities.
Svennis - Sweden's love machine would love to back managing in England - his average percentage win ratio is almost 52% the same as Rafa. A strange guy but a very effective manager.
Owen Coyle - Freshly sacked today and deservedly so by the Trotters (Cheap option as he wouldn't need to move house)
Mark (we will never be in this position again) Hughes - who could be sacked later this week or even later today.
The Coyle sacking and possibly Hughes too complicate matters further for the Rovers as there are now more available managers positions to fill!
Get a flipping move on Shebby...

"keep supporting Black"
"Black is preparing the players"
"It has been a very difficult week for Eric, with three games in seven days"
"We could make a decision in a week, it could take three weeks, I will not let circumstances dictate."
Sounds remarkably similar to the "we will decide steve keans future" statements.
In other words, we are keeping Black at the helm and were going to lead you on that we are looking for a new manager when all we really want to do is wait for Black to string 2 or 3 wins together so that we can offer him a professional contract and claim he's the right man for the job.
I promise you this Rovers faithful, they have brought thier chosen men in already, for whatever reason Kean wasn't sacked will be the same reason Black won't be sacked. There is an arrangement in place whereby someone else is picking the team and Black/Kean are jus figureheads who are so spineless they will let it happen and take home a fat pay cheque.

Do you really believe all this tripe? What club takes months over EVERY single decision? You can see the lies in Shebbys eyes when he speaks.
Now Bolton need a manager and guess who will get one first, i fully expect Bolton like any normal club to have an appointment by early next week at the latest.
We are being strung along by the same set of lies, are you actually sat there looking at your monitor saying "yes, yes Shebby we need to take our time over this one and make sure Black is in charge for the next game JUST incase we don't get a manager in, he is doing a great job with the lads and we are looking like a good unit under him".
Wake up man, Venkys are playing for time yet again and we all just eat out of thier hands as they mock us from afar. If Schuster and Clemente have put thier CV's into the ring then what else is to discuss? We have our choice of experienced managers, why wait til "thursday".... possibly because this is close to the weekend so no approaches will be made until next week? Then the "approach" may be dragged out over a few weeks whilst Venky's pray that Black gets one win so they can hail him as a man with great prospects.

Shearer and Sherwood and Ole Gunnar are still all very close together as the bookies favourites between 3-1 and 11-4 in the betting along with Mad Mick MacC (but he thankfully looks tied-on for the Bolton job now).
The rest seem to be also-rans according to the Bookies, as even Black is now at 10-1.
But as good as the Bookies usually are - maybe this time they have not reckoned with the V factor - as Venky's will probably have some surprise in store for us all yet.

Sherwood has NO experience never managed a team ever ! so NO.
Look at the other ex player from that era Hendry that has made a complete and total mess of every managers job he has had, and look at the mess our "defensive" coach is making of this job he has at Rovers that his drinking pal Kean gave him.

Money's the key, not ability.
If you knew what you were doing, like having some knowledge about how to get out of the Championship, viz. McCarthy, would you sign for Bolton owned by a local millionaire who knows where the ground is and goes there, or Venkys. If he doesn't get the Wanderers job, Peter Reid is possibly one of the better (sorry cheaper) options.

With Notts Forest and now Leeds likely to get new owners Rovers WILL in my opinion get this one right. Don't know why after everything they have done to date.
As for top names the NW has ( City's rise has enhanced it) a big attraction with managers, and players. Jet set lifestyle and more importantly a part of the world / country the WAGS are prepared for their other halves to move to for a footballing job.
Do you think Shearer would consider a move back to Blackburn if his misses wasn't happy to move back down here. Why does Roy Keane still banker after staying when he has a 1.5 million a year deal in Turkey I think.
Liverpool City United jet set and WAGs culture.
Most live on the Southport coast or posh South Manchester Alderley Edge
set.
Harvey Nichs / Armani etc in Manchester.
You don't get that any where else but London.
So for these reasons ( and probably not the right reasons) there will always be big names interested in good NW clubs
I think they will opt for what we would all perceive to be a big name
I don't know why however I think they will get it right. Prepared to eat my words if they don't.
There will

Amazing though how differently the clubs are run, Bolton gave him the bullet at the right time, relegation followed by a bad start with poor defending to blame. Rovers kept giving SK chance after chance , one disaster to the next and only finally succumbed when fans threatened a total boycott of wolves game.
This indicates to me they'll appoint faster than us without all the bull5hit of the "shebby shortlist". Another indication of the farce than these clowns are running
Only good thing of getting greedy Coyle is , it would spice up our visit to the dingles in December, especially if they've got SK to replace rentboy Howe when he's decided he has to go back to a bigger club and heads for the south coast

Of course, Black was Kean's understudy and he is no Steve Kean, as the lack of goals demonstrate. But he is very good at standing around with Colin Hendry - a.k.a "THE ORC" who sulkily chews on his gum offering nothing except aggression towards elderly neighbours when they ask for a portion of their life savings back.
However, two hard drinking Scottish deadbeats are more than adequate for a club of your stature. You used to manage with just one! While Kean left you and is soon to sue for constructive dismissal (a case he will most certainly win just as soon as the judge sees Shebby's comical peformance at the fans' meeting), you will just have to make do with his self appointed replacement - Mr Black.
I'd like to see a bit more of Shebby around the dug out. Him and Hendry could have fruitful discussions about the midfield tactics, and these could be passed on to Black, who would benefit greatly from Shebby and Colin's experience. Perhaps he could instruct Jordan Rhodes to go and steal his next door neighbour's life savings on a rare forward raid?
I trust you find this advice to be of use.
Or you could just appoint Alan Shearer. And then I will laugh my f*ucking head off.
Go ahead....make my day”

So they are going to simply bring in probably a ex-player (no experience in management so should be quite cheap) probably not Sherwood , Spurs want 3 million pounds release contract they wont pay that,so unless they do it looks like Shearer , and they will keep both Keans mates Black the nonentity/bland person and Hendry ,Keans big pal, driver ,drinking partner ,and bully and swindler of old peoples life savings.
Don`t forget they look at their transfer buys like Rhodes and Best as investments that they can sell on and hopefully make a nice few million on it
sometime down the track.

Football is a "something to tell my mates i did on saturday" when you absolutely no clue what is transpiring. Do you really believe Venky's forked out £8mil for Rhodes from thier back pockets? It's widely reported the £8mil was taken directly from parachute payments. Rhodes would be nowhere near our club if we didn't have that cash. I'd love to see the Venky's balance books because im fairly confident they have made money since they started at brfc.
The fact that your club has been shat on for the last 3 years by the same people and YOU STILL believe they are going to do right by the club this time is testament only to your blind faith.
Fancy me coming round to your house doing some contract work? I won't turn up for a few weeks and then ill do a bit and walk away claiming i need "more time" and im sure you'll understand, then i'll tag an extra charge onto the bill, thats the professional way to go about things and you don't know for sure that I wont be back so im sure you'll keep your faith in me and continue to reccomend me to your friends and family.
Most people don't like being pee'd on but you seem to stand there head tward the sky with your mouth open.
