Rovers will draw up manager shortlist on Thursday
6:32pm Monday 8th October 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers' global advisor Shebby Singh has said the club will draw up a shortlist of candidates for the managerial position on Thursday.
Singh confirmed Eric Black would continue in temporary charge as the process to find Steve Kean's successor continues.
Singh declined to comment on individual names but confirmed 'top names' have registered their interest.
He said: "I will meet with my colleagues on Thursday and we will draw up a shortlist then. We are going through the due process.
"We have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of interest we have had in the job and are in a hurry, but won't rush the decision."

The position would have been filled last week though if Sherwood would have walked out on Spurs and Rovers would have agreed the high compensation figure mentioned.
That has not worked out so we go into the second PK week. (Post Kean)
I think that the application window should have been closed off this evening and a short list decided on by tomorrow am. The top three should be interviewed this week and the appointment should be announced by Saturday.
But for that to happen the next manager will have to be a free agent/unemployed now as otherwise Rovers will have to start asking for permission to talk to people and negotiate compensation which of course they will not want to pay.
So that cuts the list down a bit....it will be further reduced when the people mentioned as being interested over the last week withdraw as that fake interest was purely to remind bigger and better clubs that they are around and/or help them negotiate bigger contracts with their current clubs.
By the end of the week we may be lucky to have three real applicants to pick from. Just hope that the one we do pick is up to the job.

Here's noddy's short list and prediction.
1. Jourdan Ali - the people's choice, at least in Pune.
2. Eric Black - consolation prize to save his face
3. Allan Shearer - the price to get him off the comfy coach mumbling cliches in ungrammatical English, are surely beyond Venky's budget.
4. Roy Keane - the man who said Mick Mc was unfit to run Ireland, unlikely to go to Pune once a month and take orders from Shabby
5. Berndt Schuster, brilliant German international, player, captain and manager of Real, unlikely to take job if he speaks to Salgado.
6. Mick McCarthy could come cheap but the fact that he knows how to get out of the Championship could go against him.
So, here goes - Noddy's going for McCarthy, a reasonably sensible choice and Jourdan Ali on the coaching staff, just to prove Venkys are nuts.
Remember, you read it here first.

One question for anyone posting on here. What would you think at an interview if you were faced with the Three Stooges, and/or anyone from Venky's, with all their in depth knowledge of English football? I think a quick exit would be in order, never to return. As I have asked before, can anyone name an experienced manager worth his salt who would work for the circus that BRFC has become?

He also appeared to refute suggestions he spoke to Spurs about Sherwood, which again can only be a good thing. If he wants to go into management he should work his way up from the bottom. It is not the role of our club to be a nursery for aspiring managers to gain experience before moving on to better things e.g. Hughes. We need a proven name who can bring stability and immediate results and who will be with us for several years of recovery.
UK candidates:
McCarthy
Davies
Curbishley
Foreign candidates:
Schuster
Eriksson
Benitez
Any of those six would do me fine. If they turn out to be garbage, which is unlikely, then at least we can say we appointed them on the basis of their managerial reputation and not their playing history.

I don't care if nobody respectable wants to work for venkys, money talks, just look at Murphy, Rhodes and Gomes. Offer enough dough and we willl get a manager good enough to get us promoted.
Pay for your mistakes venkys, if you want the riches and the recognition of the premier league then get your hands in your pockets and appoint a MANAGER, NOT A COACH!!!

After listening to Shebby Singh on the awful Sky Sports News channel I am very slightly more confident about things. He is adamant there are 'big names' on the list, which should rule out quite a few of those on the betting list. Interesting that he appeared to entertain the notion of Eriksson. Whilst he wouldn't be my number one he would definitely get my support as he has the cv as a MANAGER to earn the job and have a good crack at it. As for;
McCarthy - doesn't seem too popular with the proletariat on here, but there are a lot, lot worse........... Billy Davies, for example.
Curbishley - would get a nosebleed if he went North of Watford
Schuster - why is he suddenly scratching around for the job?
Eriksson - turned into a pantomime manager a long time ago - could Venkys afford to pay him off? They would have to, eventually..
Benitez - why does his name keep cropping up? No chance and even if there was, would it really be that good a choice? We are in the Championship y'know.
Venkys drawing up a short list on Thursday. Further evidence they do not have a clue what they are actually doing.

Thursday? So no rush then. We're at the end of day 10 since liberation from Kean and we're going to wait another 3 days before getting to the short list stage? What has been going on for the last 10 days? Then there will be interviews and a decision making stage. I won't be surprised if Black is still at the helm away at Derby. Then they will give him the job because our other targets ran a mile at the interview stage. We need a manager (proven manager not some coach or ex player hoping to test himself out) in and at work by a week today AT THE LATEST

Venkys have put some money in but they have also taken it back out with their sales of our best players. We are divided on whether they sincerely want to do things to help BRFC or whether they are simply asset-stripping and are not really interested in football at all.
It may sound like negativity and complaints to you, but we are not idiots. We are also patient and will hope correct decisions, not rash ones, are made in appointing the right man for the job. That does not mean, however, that this should drag on for weeks and weeks when there are some top names waiting to do the job. Take it easy, have a nice day.

We endured an up and down first season finishing 11th and dumping Liverpool out of the FA Cup on their patch with Frandsen's pass to Blake and bang out they went - and luckily so did those two players as Souness got hold of the club the following season and re-shaped the squad going forward!
Throughout those two seasons the fans rallied round, even more so after the sad passing of Jack - it was nice to recall that time of erm ... that's it five past Michopoulos ... winning at Dumpdale to clinch runners-up to Fulham and just before that entertaining Huddersfield at Easter with magic Jansen in his pomp and over 28,000 at Ewood for a TV game - amazing!
It's not 'glory-seeking' it's pride in OUR club - if Venky's show it - it shall be returned in kind!
However I'm worried that Shabby says it could take upto 3 weeks and there is 'no rush' - sorry Shabby just look at the 'entertainment' value of Saturday - there is every rush - any chance of us getting Emerton back for Oz - no right winger since he left and it shows!

What manager would want to come to us and the North West = 0
You have to be joking
What do a lot of the would be applicants have in common!! Most have lived in leafy Cheshire with the Man United now City jet set or Lytham / Southport Liverpool jet set.
Armani / Harvey Nichols in Manchester for the WAGS
Keene Shearer Benitez Ole Gunner bet all their other halves wouldn't mind a move. I don't know if I am right but I think it was only Sutton that lived deep in the Ribble Valley / Trough of Bowland way
What did Roy Hodgson the scoundrel once say " I used to travel miles round the outskirts of Blackburn so I did not have to drive through it every day so where the heck did he live??
Perhaps a real outsider would be coming for the true love of the club and the challenge or has the NW lifestyle permeated the footballing world for it is a fantastic part of the country to live.

After what happened with the Klown it's got to be part of their thought process. In any event, he has no proven track record and we certainly don't need another experiment at this point in time. As for McCarthy, a better suggestion but there have to be better candidates than him, OGS for a start, and why don't Venkys get their hands in their pockets to prise someone away from another club? Lots of good candidates in this league or lower down, money talks.

Rovers will draw up manager shortlist on Thursday
6:32pm Monday 8th October 2012 in Sport By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter

Why does it take until Thursday to draw up a short list ? Ideally the new man should be in by next Monday at the latest - to give him some time with the squad (that isn't on international duty) - and also to look at numerous videos showing how bad we have been.

The good news there is a list of applicants but it is the quality of the applicant that is a concern, Shearer is not the answer just a name in a suit and tie nor is Roy Keane so the guessing game continues, what they need to do is get this one right and quickly as we are already drifting downwards

French Rover says...
It will be a boost to the whole club when we get the new manager in but now it is taking too long.

I'm bored of reminding the selective memory loss brigade that their obsession of hating Rovers 1st and supporting their team 2nd is all a bit embarrassing and by the looks of attendances things down the dingle dome, they're all boycotting aswell.
But that's the issue isn't it? You don't support the team do you?

A short-list drawn up by our global adviser who hasn't played one minute of English football and hasn't an FA coaching badge - great start.

Hmmm....perhaps the words...1 million plus basic with incentives for promotion etc etc (what was Keans reported contract worth!) might make the successful applicant look at the "Three Stooges" in a different light than rest of us mere mortals;-)

After listening to Shebby Singh on the awful Sky Sports News channel I am very slightly more confident about things. He is adamant there are 'big names' on the list, which should rule out quite a few of those on the betting list. Interesting that he appeared to entertain the notion of Eriksson. Whilst he wouldn't be my number one he would definitely get my support as he has the cv as a MANAGER to earn the job and have a good crack at it.

I bought my seasons ticket, as promised, after Kean resigned (even got my old seat back) and I sung at the top of my voice, but if Rovers appoint Judan Ali I WILL have it refunded again!

On Monday 1st October, LT reported - "Global advisor Shebby Singh and managing director Derek Shaw will meet this morning to draw up a list of possible replacements." I also read that they would make the shortlist at the weekend (that's the weekend just gone), so why have they now put it back to Thursday? My conspiracy theory is that they wanted Black in and were hoping he would give them enough results that they would be able to save themselves a lot of work and just announce Black was their man. But it has all gone as we all thought but they didn't - that Black is just a Kean yes-man who has been useless in 'assisting' Kean and has proved useless without Kean.
Get your fingers out Shebby, Shaw and Venkys. Stop playing about and get someone independent and experienced and hand all football control over to him. Nothing else is good enough for BRFC.

A "big name" to Singh may not be what you or I consider to be a big name.
As for;
McCarthy - doesn't seem too popular with the proletariat on here, but there are a lot, lot worse...........

Our happiness does not depend on BRFC - if it did we'd all be as miserable as sin. But we want Rovers to do well and we are trying to help by voicing our opinions. They are only opinions but they come from years of experience and it is nice to compare them with others and see that although there is a lot of variety, we are mostly agreed that a top manager given control of footballing matters at Ewood is essential.

It may sound like negativity and complaints to you, but we are not idiots. We are also patient and will hope correct decisions, not rash ones, are made in appointing the right man for the job. That does not mean, however, that this should drag on for weeks and weeks when there are some top names waiting to do the job. Take it easy, have a nice day. jogalot

Interested in Shebby's comments.... "I will meet with my colleagues on Thursday and we will draw up a shortlist then. We are going through the due process". Who are the colleagues (Shaw and Agnew + he we cannot mention?), what is "due process" and why is it taking four days to get a list together? It contradicts Shebby's other comment "We have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of interest we have had in the job and are in a hurry, but won't rush the decision." Shebby, you might be in a hurry but Mrs. D. won't rush the decision, because Mrs. D. will tell you who to appoint after the 'preferred' candidate has gone to India (assuming he is not already there) - never heard of "She who must be obeyed" and "She who pays the piper, calls the tune". Can't wait for the 'Club' to thank the fans for their patience, like they thanked those that turned up / 'returned' to the non-event called the Wolves game. 'Kean' speak is still coming out of Ewood, because nothing is coming from our absent owner(s). Betting is they / she appoints someone we have never heard of or not been mentioned as being "in the running"!

We don't want to give potential candidates the idea that we are desperate - even if we are.
The Rovers job remains a great job in football and we should take the time necessary to get it right.
There would be plenty of people on here moaning if we rushed into appointing the wrong man - Eric Black for instance - wouldn't there?

Straight back down again which is whats happened to every team they have managed!!
The Rovers job isnt a quick fix, its going to be a long hard commitment and these two for me are NOT the men for the job.

What a bunch of negative whingers.
For gods sake let the club make the announcement on the new manager and THEN AND ONLY THEN, make a comment on the new guy.
Yes we know the owners don't know their ar5se from their elbow about football and pray we get a decent appointment but stop looking for the worst case scenario
It's not just the owners that are putting off potential candidates (your words not mine), but who the hell would want to walk into a club with fans having such a downer on every aspect?
Yes I share some of your fears, some unknown from India , or worst Black given the job as a cheap option and if either of the above happen I'll be the first to complain. But please let's see what happens. All these negatives can't be helping anyone apart from the people who have made a lifestyle out of critisism with no positives.
Look at it like this, we still attract hatred beyond belief from the 6 finger brigade because for all their self righteous ideas of how well run their little club is, they know they can never draw the media frenzy that we do, because nobody is interested in their club or what happens to it.
Their days of success are beyond most peoples living memory, at least ours are relatively recent.
Come on proper Rovers fans, keep some faith, maintain your loyalty to the most successful town team England has ever seen and things might look a whole lot brighter in a month or so.
Our squad should be good enough to get out of this division with some proper leadership. Let's hope we get some, and maybe just maybe we can soon be dining at the top table of English football again and leave the Blackpools&Burnleys of this world in their rightful place, 2nd of 3rd tier , feeding on the scraps left under the oak boardroom table!

Ok then . You have sacked SK and slumped down the table . 4000 fans came back up see you get stuffed by a very poor wolves side at home . Answer me this Rovers fans, would you prefer a BR team to get promoted under SK or to finish mid table under some other manager that will obviously not be anywhere as good as Mr K?

Also take with them:
Orr, Lowe, Givet, Dunn, Murphy, just to name a few.
I have never seen a team pass the ball backwards so much in my life with no pressure on them.
We lack any pace.
The best player we have were on the bench Rochina, and Fabio Nunes.
And when the announcer on the tanner mentioned for people to stoke smoking in the ground, I think he was talking about the two centre halfs for Wolves who in my opinion seemed to have our forwards in their pockets and were smoking two big cigars all of the game.

I'm really glad we are moving forward quickly. I have it off good authority that if we manage to poach Arsene wenger from Arsenal, all the premier league glory hunters would come flooding back, unless it was a night match, oh and if it was raining too, oh and also only if Jose Mourinho was his number 2.
They said they are really eager to return. Roll on Thursday.

Now they might even appoint the great Alan Shearer as manager.
Yet STILL they moan. Bonkers isn't it?
* PS - there is almost certainly a constructive dismissal claim in the offing. And Steve Kean WILL win it (as soon as the judge sees Sheddy's farcical performance at that fan's meeting). And when Shearer's busy guiding you to another relegation, it'll be time to pay Kean's compo. Plus whatever Allardyce gets out of the club for Kean's drunken "crook" ranting. Happy Days!
