Black: 'We need presence up front'
6:59pm Saturday 6th October 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
ERIC Black believes Blackburn Rovers are desperately lacking a presence up front after admitting his side didn't do enough going forward this afternoon.
Rovers' caretaker boss saw his side lose 1-0 to Wolves in front of watching bosses Venkatesh and Balaji Rao and he admits too much is being asked of £8million man Jordan Rhodes.
Black insisted he would just carry on at the helm until told otherwise as he preferred to focus on the performance, rather than Rovers' managerial search.
He said: “I don't think we did enough to win the game but we did enough not to lose it. In the first half, we gave them too much possession but in the second half we were more adventurous and could have nicked it.
“It should have been a 0-0 draw. The problem we are having is we need a presence up front in this division. We don't have the players capable of that.
“I don't know what Rhodes is thinking, he ran himself to a standstill but we are asking things that have never been asked of him.
“We had all off the front players on the bench and we needed presence because we need to get ball up sooner.
“I am carrying on. There are elements we need to change, if we are able to do that then fine, if not we will carry on.”
Black was adamant Rovers should have had a penalty for a blatant push on Rhodes in the first half, for the second match in succession.
He said: “Two games in a row we should have had a penalty. It is not a excuse but two ridiculous claims we have had turned down. How Jordan falls down on his own means beyond me.
“I think he is an extremely nice lad, maybe he should have appealed? But it is not up to the players, the referee has to give the decisions.”

Thde reason we have failed to score in the last 2 games has NOTHING at all to do with our strikers - its to do with you, ERIC BLACK, setting the team up with a negative attitude and a negative formation - the strikers have been strugglig to get even scraps to feed-off.
We have had enough of managers blaming everyone else for the teams on-pitch failings - time for the MANAGER to man up and EXCEPT responsibility for the teams failure - you pick the team, you motivate the team, you decide tactics, you decide substitutions - its not JR, C K-R or NG fault for failing to score in the last 2 games - ITS YOURS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are in the deep do-do. There is deeper chaos than I thought. I think it's time to switch off until the Venkys sort out the mess they have got into. It is going to take trust in a very strong character. Unfortunately, they sacked one of the few who are big enough to sort it out - I mean Sam not Kean. I haven't a clue who can do the job, possibly Roy Keane - and watch the sparks fly.

From what I read there, it seems Hendry could be pulling the strings as far as team selection. No wonder he wants to put out a negative defensive team...he's only bothered about clean sheets and keeping his job...."s0d the promotion and the fans, I need the money!!"
.
HENDRY, BLACK AND SHEBBY OUT!! SHEARER, NEWELL AND JOHN WILLIAMS IN!! SOOOO SIMPLE IT'S EMBARRASSING!!

It is obvious there are is a general lacking/slackness throughout the team that need a sorting OUT ASAP.
You have Murphy who seems past being able to contribute and Orr can do the talk, yet NEVER the walk.
Sadly the Venky,s are dependent on this "Global Advisor" Singh....AND THIS IS THE SOURCE OF ALL PROBLEM .....
1) THEY WILL ALWAYS NEED ADVISING ...
2) QUALITY OF "ADVISORS" WITHIN THE CLUB !!!!!
Please install a top quality-experienced Manager AND ALLOW HIM TO MANAGER......ASAP

Black saying he does want excuses, yet he was complaining that the players look jaded and not up to full speed, rovers had a big enough squad to freshen things up. Rochina and Pedersen have the quality in them and a scorers of good goals, Ribero could have done a better job than ORRful Bradley, lowely could have been rested for a proper midfielder.

My depression was lifted by the news that Alan Shearer publicly announced that he is interested in the post. We need a bit of passion on the pitch and I believe that Shearer would demand it and would give Bradley Orr to B***ley.

many has- beens and never will-be's. The Venkys were in attendance today. They must now realise the damage they have done by dismantling a perfectly good squad and reducing it to the mess it is now. A good manager will not sort this mess out in one season I'm afraid. We have a massive squad for the Championship yet only 4 or 5 players good enough to play in it. Anyone who thinks the Venkys will come up with the readies for the new manager to sort out the mess and get rid of the dross is misguided.

I don't think it was a penalty either. The ball was coming over and Rhodes stopped so the defender had no option but to run into him. Rhodes didn't have it under control and even if he had not been flattened I don't think he'd have been able to control the ball or even reach it from the position where he stopped. I was half a pitch away though.
BLACK OUT!! SOLSKJAER, SHUSTER, HOLLOWAY, CURBISHLEY - or even Shearer if he can bring coaches with him - IN!!!!

We have no pace other than Olsenn and the long ball into the box meant the defenders had any easy afternoon C KR missed a chance but service to the front two was absymal
Think again Venkys act now because today we looked like a side fighting relegation not winning promotion and Wolves were not that good a side they just had a game plan and stuck to it - what was ours - keep a clean sheet?

It shows playing leaving out your best passers like Rochina isn't productive.
When we said scored against N.Forest last week, Gomes set it up with a 1 touch pass. If he had taken 5 touches like Murhpy, Lowe, Orr etc... than the goal wouldn't have come.
Lets get our best passers playing and see what happens! When we beat Arsenal and Man UTD last year our best passers were all in one team (Formica, Rochina, Hoilett etc..)

The clown sets up the team with 7 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers and he is surprised when we create nothing and get beat 1-0 at home.

Its got nothing to do with presence up front you numbskull. Its got everything to do with your negative team selection and negative tactics, which basically meant we were never going to get anything more than a 0-0 draw from the game.

Poor Management was written all over this BRFC team. .....!
why play 5 in defense.......at home.......??????
BRFC need a manager and someone who is able to motivate the team and get the results that BRFC require week in, week out..
He has to be a Real, tried and tested manager with the contacts in the game. And he'll have to bring in some decent players as we are short of quality and we need to get rid of the crap ones....
A proper manager not just some idiot or someone who is simply a coach.
BRFC have many times in their past appointed coaches as managers and this has always failed.
We def. need a real manager who can manage.
We need a manager who can bring in the right players
as today it showed how poor we are.................
...we surely need a defense and someone to replace Murphy as hes too old and past it.
BRFC should not never buy players over 30 unless they are exceptional.

Poor, poor performance again! Murphy is an absolute waste of time in mid, still not see him perform in a blue and white shirt. His fault for the goal with his sloppy play. Bradley EE Orr has to go, he cant play wing back cus he cant attack or cross a ball and cant defend so what is the point of EE orr and poor Jason Lowe is having to pull out of mid to cover on the right side. Scott Dann needs to be dropped as well as i dont think he has won a headed at the back all season, sloppy, makes to many mistakes.

Very poor game, no one on the right wing, Olsson not given enough scope to get up the left. Murphy ineffective in the middle, of the several corners we won we didn't threaten their goal from any of them. Wolves were the better team but were not that good themselves.

Today was Black's only chance of staking some sort of claim to the Manager's position - and he failed it. After the mid week draw going 3 at the back with 2 wingbacks, you would have thought that the coaches would have worked on it up to today's game. It's an acceptable system assuming that you have the players to make it suceed. In the trio of Murphy, Lowe and Orr, there is no pace, no skill and too much wrong decision making. So, if you haven't got the players to make the system work, you don't play it. Formica was wasted in front of Murphy and Lowe, neither having the ability to find him with a pass. If the defence has not got confidence in the midfield, then the only solution is to hoof it and with the height of the Wolves defenders, they became wasted balls. Without Pedersen, we have no dead ball skills, without Dunn, we have no urgency going forward centrally. Sorry Eric, today was your big chance and you blew it
It is imperative that we get the right manager. Someone who will organise the players on the field, someone who will stand up to Venkys and shebby off it. For the right man it's quite a simple job. We have a very strong squad. Maybe we are a midfielder, new right back and a centre half shy.
Get the right manager in and we should walk this league, get it wrong and it could be a disaster.

Also, in reality he had 9 months left on this current contract so I very much doubt whether he has a case for more than £300,000 which is written into his contract - also bear in mind he got unbelievable support from Venkys during is his disasturous tenure, which went way beyond what most owners would offer and this would be easily shown in court.
Also, don't forget that SK is an illeagal 5% owner in the club and all our owners have many skeletons in the closet which I'm sure non of them want to come out.
I would also say that surely Venkys will have a case to sue Kean - once they have had to settle with SA, surely they will have a case to sue Kean for the amount they have had to pay SA and for their legal fees incured - stick that in your pipe and smoke it Stevie boy !!!

Hi M4CCY.............I don't think there's a cat in hells chance of that.. Venkys will want another 'manager' who will toe the line as Kean did, but someone who will stand up to them...........Never

For me it's got to be a 442 formation with one defensive lying midfielder and one box to box midfielder. I agree that Pedersen has been poor during open play but he will create chances from dead ball situations. And please drop Bradley Orr and Danny murphy.
6 defensive players in front of a goalkeeper who is past his best
And you come out with a statement that the forwards aren't holding the ball long enough, HELLO 6 defenders so lets play hoof ball because you have got the balance of the team wrong
5-3-2 or 3-5-2 it's basically the same, so long as the 2 full backs have got the energy/pace and skill to fly up and down their channels
Raheem Hanley and Adam Henley spring to mind
NOT Bradley Orr or Olsson
Your central centre back should have the nerve to hold the line, Givet would fit the bill with the other 2 playing just a bit further up the pitch and have the confidence and pace that they can fall back into a tight unit ,when the opposition have the ball, Henrique and Ribiero would fit the bill
So that's the defence sorted
Attacking should be a dodell, one holding midfielder who controls the middle only not getting dragged away, but just having that hold
and 2 players playing on the inside of the channels
The 3 players for this role would be Etuhu holding and Rochina and Jorge
Up front KZR and Rhodes playing just a fraction behind him
NOW THAT'S WHAT ShOULD HAPPEN AT HOME GAMES

Everyone who saw what happened yesterday is telling you the problem is centre midfield, not your strikers.
Sadly Rovers were outfought all over the park by a team who were physically stronger, fitter and better organised, and 20 minutes of hoofball at the end of every game cannot disguise this.
Don't you realalise there are far more than 6 teams in the championship capable of beating us this way.
Somebody needs to get down to Brockhall and sort out the basics.

Players over 30 ish are past it as the demands of football require fast energetic individuals who can keep on going for 90 minutes.
That means players like Murphy, Dunn, and others over 30 would have to go or let their contracts finish.
We have many young ones that have been bought in lately, although untried., I believe we need to give them a chance as they may give 90 minutes of energy and commitment which is surely required.

In the first 3 games we were very lucky to win and most of the fans knew that we were in a false position near the top of the league.
This current squad must be the unfittest Rovers side I can remember and is lacking in pace in midfeld & attack.
Kean led us to believe that we had the best squad in the Championship - sadly reality is now beginning to dawn that it is unbalanced and is overloaded with ageing players way past their best.
Mention has already been made about the whereabouts of Raheem Hanley and Adam Henley. In addition, what about the rest of the Portuguese contingent. What was the point of these signings if they are no where to be seen.
I can only assume that someone at the club is or was involved in dodgy arrangements with agents How else can you explain why we have signed 7 Portuguese players!

Any future manager worth his salt would want assurances of a complete control of player selection, tactics, transfers and appointing his own management team………..This regime will never be a success until they have the ability to let a manager manage and not create obstacles for him.
Let’s see if they appoint a yes man or a ‘proper’ football manager to get us out of this mess…..my guess, they haven’t learned from the last two years catalogue of disasters…raking in massive transfer fees for star players and the TV income made them think life wasn’t too bad even with relegation (their mind-set is about making money, which they did) well, Mrs, Mr & Mr regime both have long gone…no star player to sell and very little future TV money, fans voting with their feet…….my advice SELL UP well you can!

We played what I call 'lazy football' yesterday, in that it was too easy to play the long punt upfield, players didn't show at throw-ins, didn't make themselves available to receive a pass and, certainly didn't close down the opposition.
Kean may have gone but we still have his garbage to dispose of or re-cycle. Skipper Murphy is a major disappoinment in the 'engine room', even if he was beginning to play better than at Forest till he conceded the corner. He looks to me like, not only are his legs suspect but that he cannot think quick enough. Shame cos he's had a good career so far, but any new manager would have to dipense with his services on current form, and build a side around someone else.
Problem with that is we won't be able to move him on at his current salary, and that applies to a few others as well.
Major shake-up required in performance and attitude both on and off the field.

I reckon Black is actually WORSE than Steve Kean, who was, of course TOO GOOD FOR YOU

However an experienced manager is needed, sooner the better to sort out the deadwood in the squad and backroom. The owners must get this one right!

Ok so we need presence upfront, so why when your 1-0 down did you put a midfielder on and not another striker? Ill tell you why, because you havent got a clue what your doing! Out of your depth just like that **** Steve Kean!

The odious one is reported to be in line for a £14.9 million pay off according to the BBC Sport site !
Your absolutely correct in that skeletons could very well be in the Venky closet, and this is were I feel SS is in the process of cleaning everything up ?
We have a disgraceful and disgusting mess going on down at Ewood and when this mess is finally sorted one way or the other then we can all move on.
Let us hope that Venky show more balls in confronting this situation than the one when appointing this imposter with a woeful record.

What worries me is the owners and management are showing very little sign of urgency here. What does this bunch of muppets actually do all day?? Sit around scratching their ar$es? Imagine what Shearer and the other applicants must be thinking when they have Shaw, Singh and the rest of the 'interview panel' interviewing them for the job? It will be like a skit featuring young kids interviewing grown adults. What an absolute shambles!!

Anyone and everyone can see the issue lies witn the link between midfield and attack and yet Black blames the strikers?
I said a couple of weeks ago, black is clueless and ckr is inept. Play ckr for 90 mins and watch him flounder as he shoots from 40 yards constantly, he will loose us games and I actually hate him that much that the next manager who comes along should cancel his loan and pay the fee. Nowhere near good enough for brfc.
Also, your comment about shooting from 40yds hit home with me as he did similar at forest then again yesterday which suggests to me that the guy really couldn't give a to$$!

Solskjaer would be perfect for Blackburn at the moment, for obvious reasons with his managerial experience from sitting behind fergie (who we all know is a great of the game whether you like to admit it or not), but there are other reasons... For a start he has proven managerial success already, he has a close relationship with fergie, so I would imagine he would quite easily be able to give fergie a nudge and borrow a couple of defenders that are 'not quite yet' first team man u quality...
I would say get him in at any cost if they want the lucrative premiership funds, which we all know they want
He spent a reported 20million on players at Rovers and lasted less than 12months.
He is now Mancini's assistant.
There is a big gap between Manager and Assistant
We need this pair of clowns out before we can move forward , we can easily appoint an interim man till we find a new manager , but Kean`s people should get out now.

!I agree. The clown sets up the team with 7 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers and he is surprised when we create nothing and get beat 1-0 at home. DOH! - Its got nothing to do with presence up front you numbskull.
