Givet talks expected after Valley mystery
10:55am Monday 1st October 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers are expected to hold talks with Gael Givet today after the French defender was mys-teriously substituted at half time in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic.
The French defender did not re emerge after the break at The Valley, to be replaced by Grant Hanley, with caretaker boss Eric Black admitting afterwards it was not a tactical decision and he was not injured.
Black declined to comment further on the situation until he had discussed the matter with Givet himself, after a whirlwind 24 hours in the wake of Steve Kean’s resignation.
Givet was seen to have indicated he wanted to be replaced during the first half, having appeared to have had an argument with Bradley Orr following the award of a penalty for Charlton.
The 30-year-old defender was left out of the trip to Swansea last season at the last minute by former boss Kean in similar mysterious circumstances, with him being then being described as “not in the right frame of mind”.
Givet’s agent was yest-erday unavailable for comment. Black said: “No it wasn’t an injury. I am going to have assess that once I speak to Gael.
“But no, it wasn’t an injury and no it wasn’t a tactical decision.
“I haven’t spoken to him and I really need to speak to him.”
Black, who was handed the temporary reigns late on Friday night after Kean announced his resignation at the team hotel, hailed his side’s battling display at Charlton.
He admitted they were far from their flowing best but praised the character shown in exceptional circumstances.
Dickson Etuhu had given the visitors an early lead by Johnnie Jackson’s close range header levelled before the break, as Rovers hung on for the point.
Black said: “The players that are in the dressing room have a magnificent attitude and they have shown that under extremely difficult circumstances.
“They have defended extremely well and onwards and upwards. I think it was a fair result. We thought the penalty was poor but our reaction to the save should be better. “I am not saying we were fantastic or threatening their goal.
“But I thought we had a little bit more compactness and a bit of resilience. “From Steve’s point of view that is what he would have wanted. “We are going to have to look at every aspect but I was very happy with the attitude of the players.
“I thought we dealt pretty well with the pressure they put us under. “I didn’t have a worry in terms of the attitude of the players because I know them well enough.”

Drop Orr, promote Givet. Orr is NOT a Rovers player. He's spawn of Kean and should be removed immediately.

Keith Hill would sort him out. Keith Hill would sort some of the moaning for the sake of it Rovers' fans as well. Saw him take on some right mouthy knowalls at Spotland and he did not need to call on Flicker to assist.

I think any fan can see that we are carrying 3 players per match and we need a tough manager to come in and tell the big time Charlies, some home truths. We will need a couple of loan signing, as we have a mess of a defence and no one in midfield who can put a shift in. A hard task for anyone I think, but with the right choice we can make it.
Orr and Murphy absolutely awful and need to be replaced ASAP not up to the mark and just seeing their time out on good wages - defence again all over the place which says a lot for coach Hendry!!! OUT WITH HENDRY AGNEW SINGH VENKYS.

The penalty was absolutely needlessly given away and Givet was wicked with the rest of the team. He cut a lone figure to me as well, a man really cheesed off.

before you get too excited, Hills record in the championship isn’t great, in fact is win ratio is just slightly better than Kean’s was and don’t forget Kean’s record was in a higher division ..Be careful what you wish for….

Cant lost Givet he has been a warrior for us, yes he shouldnt refuse to play but he must get frustrated with Orr and Dann at the back, what a waste of time those 2 are. Without Givet we will struggle at the back. For me Orr, Dann, Murphy and Pedersen can all go in January!

Orr is a fashion boy and he cannot stand the pace and power of striker players. We need to work on ruthless effort to stop ball at the back. look at Westham-QPR game last night, 8+ yellow cards, because they need 3 points.
That is the fight , we as a team needed, but in a controlled manner.
My Team for next match:-
Robbo,Lowe,Dann,Givi
t,Ollson, Pedersen,Murphy,Etuh
u,Fabio Nunes,Rochina,Rhodes
.
Sub:Kean,Dunn,Hanley
,Orr,Bruno Ribeiro,Gomes,Formic
a
All the best , get 3 points and top the table.
