Blackburn Rovers Blog: It's time to get over Kean 'obsession'
Blackburn Rovers fans should be feeling on top of the world.
The fact a lot still aren’t says everything about what they have been put through over the past two years.
I’m not going to tell anyone to ‘give the manager a chance’ or even tell them to start attending Ewood Park again. But isn’t it time we all got over this Steve Kean obsession?
For all Venky’s have done wrong since arriving at Blackburn, and there is a lot, they have now funded a squad that it would be very hard not to take into the Premier League.
Paying for the likes of Jordan Rhodes and Nuno Gomes (his wages are big) should see the blue and white army back where they belong next season – whoever is in the hot seat.
Rovers haven’t even had to play well to win games in the Championship so far – in fact they have been poor in most – because they have that individual quality other teams can only dream of.
After being turned into Premier League whipping boys over the past two years, Rovers fans deserve something to celebrate. We should all make the most of being top of the league.
It is not just a case of wanting promotion either, it is a case of needing it. If Rovers can’t get back up quickly then we can wave goodbye to the club we have been used to over the past 20 years. It could become a bleak future.
It is fairly obvious thousands of Rovers fans will not forgive Steve Kean easily, if ever. Tuesday night’s very low crowd sent a loud message to Venky’s about what their real problem is.
It was never about relegation, it was about the way they have been treated and been shown so little respect. You can understand why there are so many stay-aways.
I don’t see thousands returning any time soon either and the owners can’t complain. They have made their choice and so the fans have made theirs.
Venky’s know by now sticking with their current manager will see their home gate dramatically hit. That isn’t changing.
All I am saying is, whether you go or not, is it worth letting one man ruin your passion? Rovers should walk this league and that should be enjoyable.
The debate about Kean almost every day must be tiresome for everyone and all a little bit pointless. He is Rovers’ manager. I know few will like it, but why cut your nose off to spite your face?
I respect everyone’s right to an opinion and their right to stay away as a form of protest.
But we can all still enjoy Blackburn Rovers being top of the league. Ignore the manager if you have to but don’t ignore your club flying high.
This may be a rare moment of success.
