FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 2 Barnsley 1

NUNO Gomes came off the bench to net a late winner as Blackburn Rovers came from behind to beat Barnsley and stay top of the Championship.

Jacob Mellis had fired Barnsley in front just after the half hour mark but Jordan Rhodes levelled in superb fashion, swivelling to find the top corner, on the stroke of half time.

Marlon Harewood fired wide after Scott Dann's poor backpass had put him clear on goal but it was Rovers who secure the victory when Fabio Nunes crossed from the left for fellow substitute Gomes to convert five minutes from time.

Another ground out result in a game in which we had the class to batter the opposition, but the back 5 seemed intent on wanting Barnsley to score with their wayward passing.

We were VERY LUCKY .. awful and dire in the first half the only thing getting us through is the quality of the finishing... tactically clueless Kean should have seen the gap he had left in central midfield yet after 25 minutes of pressure does nothing to change the tactics...

Fabio Nunes looks like a live wire. Also, another touch of class from Nuno Gomes. Scott Dann needs to be dropped though after dropping another clanger like the one he did against Leicester. I fear that Dann is another Christian Dailly ie overpriced, overrated and prone to defensive mistakes. Hanley and Givet are much more solid defenders in my opinion.

I had to laugh when the ref was having a word with Kean 'off! off! off!'.

As for the game, Rovers not brilliant again but we do have that extra bit of class to win games. In my humble opinion we could just do with a bit more pace in our attacking options.

The secret of a side going up is to win ugly. Thats what we are doing. The longer it continues the more confidence it will breed. Great win. This lot drew with blackpool last week and we turned them over coming from behind again The other team that will be hard work will be cardiff.
Hopefully the defence will become more confident. Roll on friday and ask yourself this, would you sooner be Bolton right now?
Up Up and away, we spartans will continue to do our bit for the cause. Boycotters? who cares so long as we keep winning.

Totally agree. When we went a goal behind i thought here we go again with the kean out chants but it didnt happen and I think that will of helped the lads on the pitch. Second half we looked more of a threat and nulllified barnsley more effectively than in the first. Great substitution taking of rochina (who seems more of an impact player than one from the start) and another three points on the board. Lets hope they keep there negativity to the telegraph website.

Hi guys, Steve here. Just a polite request, will you please leave me alone. I am clearly not going to get sacked, especially as the team keep winning, are currently top of the league, have a 100% record at home and are scoring goals for fun. Finally my good friends the Venkys have decided to back me with money and I can finally start to show the world my managing genius. A lot of comments seem to refer to the fact we are bad defensively and are getting 'lucky' by outscoring the other team, but although some of you doubt my credentials, i am pretty certain that this is the key premise of football, so we will continue our tactics of trying to score more than the opposition.
Would be nice to see some of you down at Ewood on Friday because you all claim to support the club, but the closest you are coming to ewood is coming on these comment boards to abuse me. It does seem that your comment, while morally commendable, is more a comment on modern day football than simply a statment on the Club which I will lead back to the Premiership, with an army of 10-15000 behind me (depending on quality of oppostion, night of the week, time of the day, quality of the weather and most importantly X factor schedueling).

Hello Christopher from Dallas, Steve here exercising my right to reply. Firstly, I resent being called a smarmy Scottish git, you are clearly unaware of the goal I scored during my time at Academica Coimbra which came from a mere 12 appearances. I am aware this is irrelavant to my smarmyness but im Steve Kean and I'm the boss and ill do as i please. Be that playing Jason Lowe on the right wing, or bringing up irrevelant facts gained from my extensive Wikipedia page or having a couple of shandys and driving my vehicle it does not matter to me.
You should not let our relegation and current predicement influence your choice of Indian food and you should almost certainly stop using @ and $ signs because you are not 5 years old.

A lot of flaws in our game again even though we scraped a win. Barnsley had 69% posession what's all that about Kean?
Both Hanley and Dann should be dropped after they both gave the ball away by passing to a Barnsley forward directly in front of goal any Premiership side would have sunk us from such glaring errors. What is Hendry teaching them?
Playing at home top of the league with a sole striker what kind of managerial tatic is that? Barnsley did outplay and out pass us but our individual quality won us the games the ever more impressive Rhodes and both the Portugese lads made the difference with Gomes scoring again a modern day Tugay he is a fans favourite already.
I went home happy we won disappointed that we cannot control a game against inferior opposition Hill has Barnsley well organised as an ex Rover I wish he was our manager.

Great start, but let's be realistic about the whole thing - we must be the luckiest team in the league at the moment, because the performances sadly do not match those results. If and when the luck runs out, what then?

I only ask the question, because with the squad we have - even though woefully short at the back - we should win this league by a street! A manager, ANY manager worth his salt could do it. Can the current one? In my opinion no!

As I said, great start, but I will not change my mind.

The grammar and spelling in this comment is astonishingly bad. I know the Telegraph has stated anything that is false, abusive or malicious will not be posted. But I implore them to add bad grammar and spelling and incredible lack of any sense to be added to this list. I will ask Nuno to keep scoring his magic goals and when I work out what on earth you want me to say to Scott Dann, I will be sure to fully ignore your advice.

Kean has finally told the truth! He said the Rovers didn't play well. So there we have it in a nutshell. The team as players are certainly good enough to win promotion. But! The management of that team will be their downfall if they stick to Kean's tactics.

Hi Matt
I could not agree more, RU and his mates follow the Pied Piper anywhere, we need to push on now and get some more If the 8000 Spartans boycotting this Friday.
This match is on TV an d finance will come into it for a lot of people as well.
We have another opportunity to showy he Venkys we hate the Kean//Hendry regime and want a proper creditable management team, so I say to RU And fellow fans lets take this opportunity to BOYCOTT this Friday, let's get rudd of this cancer witch is eating away at our club putting fan against fan, we can then ALL reunite again at Ewood Park and roar the team to the Premiership.

Kean sacked

Of course I am pleased we got a win and we are top of the league, only after 6 games though and we've not played anyone really decent (Leeds and Leicester maybe) but that joy is tempered with the fact that Kean is still our manager.
Imagine how well we would play with the players we have if we had a decent manager!!!!
Barnsley (for gawds sake!) got a point at Blackpool on saturday RDS.

That puts our RESULT in context - they got one point and we got three and WE are top of the table. You dont get points for possession (not in this league)...

Stop raving about how bleeding good the oranges are....we are better!
Love your optimism Frenchy but I’m afraid these recent (6 games) are papering over the cracks….all six games could have gone either way and instead of being top we could be in the bottom half……defence leeks goals every game…..a good team (Blackpool, Cardiff, Brighton) will muller us.

I go on a football match to be entertained, watch skillful football, enjoy a good atmosphere, have a laugh with both my friends and other supporters I have never even meet before.
Winning might be the end result all fans want to see however to get me back on the ground I first stepped on in 1966 it will take far more than wins against the run of play.
I love Rovers with all my heart, After my wife had a brain tumor and lost all will to venture out the house or be seen by strangers due to her new unwanted looks, it was her love of Rovers that got her to visit the Millennium Stadium to watch us win against the yids, Great weekend and restored my wife's confidence to venture outdoors once more, this was all thanks to the endearing words she received from Rovers fans alot who she had never meet before.
When Rovers can offer me the feeling of being a football club again & not just being a play toy for some wealthy people along with a job for the boys club employing people who do not know what they are doing I will return

Hi Steve here, although I love them and I really appreciate them not sending me to the Job Centre, surely the shirt and ground sponsorship deals lie with the Venkys. I may be wrong but i dont think my good friend Sir Alex goes down to his Local Nike store to sign the deal. The gate issue, well, when Blackburn were champions of England, they filled the ground, now in the Championship we are down to 10-14000, now im not saying there is a lot of Glory fans knocking about but I know that aliens dont abduct football fans on there way down to Ewood. The pride and return to the ground lies on your shoulders, you support a club, not one man. Blackburn Rovers are over 100 years old, you cant claim to be a true fan and pick and choose when to support them depending on who is at the helm. So catch the local horse and cart on its way out of Darwen and come on down to Ewood. Ill be the one pulling the strings from the side, bald, good looking, come and say hello.

Dear Steve, although the Venky's are responsible for finding sponsors as you state. Breaking the law, yes, I had a shandy or two and got caught, but being from Darwen I cant imagine you to have a clean slate so again i will call on my friends pot and kettle. I think we should get away from being a former Premiership winner. Nottingham Forest are former European champions but i dont think they sack managers because they cant compete with Real Madrid. This is modern day football, and its changed. Last season we went down, but were one of 12 clubs in the Premiership that could have.

I hate to say it but this Dingle is right when he says that you can't claim to be a true fan and then pick and choose when to support them depending on who is at the helm.

That said, the Dingles have no room to talk as they are still getting lower gates than us (10,000 against Peterborough), so all the plastic 'Dare to Dream' Dingles have now jumped ship too.

I don't fully hold with the "lucky" theory. The difference between us and the sides we've played so far is , we have an abundance of talent up front and can finish off chances. Rhodes goal last night was his ability and confidence to try it and it paid off, Gomes's was pure experience to be in the right place to finish it. He's a pleasure to watch, true footballing brain&makes it look so easy.
What worries me is the defence, Orr is no better than a Sunday morning clogger, Hanley still looks raw&prone to a positional error or two but he gets stuck in and looks commuted. Dann is the biggest worry, because like the t1t that signed him, he thinks he's better than he is. Strutting around, p0ncing about adjusting his shorts and socks for the cameras. Well Scott the only time anyone watches you , is when you sell the keeper and your teammates short with your poor passing and dodgy backpasses.
He's left the team vunerable more times this season, than Samba&Nelson together did during their Ewood careers and that in itself explains why you should never sign a defender from a relegated side.
Also, I wonder if Dann will grip a rogue dingle if one strays onto the pitch at tuff morgue in December & trys to attack one of our stars?
That alone promoted Ryan to hero status amongst the Ewood faithful. I hope he washed his hands after touching that scruffy inbred cousin marrying success-starved piece of claret 5hite!

Do I have to cure cancer to get some credit. Quote 'Nunes assists Nuno Gomes'. Lets put all prejudice a side and have a think. These two players were both subs. I am the manager, ie. I make the subs. Go on, just a little bit of credit. A tiny little bit?

Finally my good friends the Venkys have decided to back me with money and I can finally start to show the world my managing genius. A lot of comments seem to refer to the fact we are bad defensively and are getting 'lucky' by outscoring the other team, but although some of you doubt my credentials, i am pretty certain that this is the key premise of football, so we will continue our tactics of trying to score more than the opposition.
Would be nice to see some of you down at Ewood on Friday because you all claim to support the club, but the closest you are coming to ewood is coming on these comment boards to abuse me. You dont have to like me, the venkys, or even our hideous home shirt, but its the club you all support, not individuals. Anyway must go, Mrs Desai has just whipped up a banging Massala.
So win every game with a rugby score 10-9, although others might argue that an alternative but equally valid premise is teaching the defence to keep clean sheets, then imagine the wonderment when one single goal is enough to bag the three points. Oh I forgot, Steve, you were sick when they did that bit on Blue Peter.
If we won every game 10-9 you would see (46 x 19) 874 goals this season. I may be wrong, but especially from a neutral level, this would be pretty amazing. But even as a Rover you can admit that seeing your team score 460 goals in a single season would be pretty special. They are proffesional footballers, so if i have the need to 'teach' anyone how to defend then we seriously have issues that go beyond me and my wonderful backroom staff.
Never been one for Blue Peter, I was to busy refining my man management, coaching techniques, media persona, good looks and Portugese (yes i speak portugese) than to concern myself with a little blue ship.
Steve.

Hi Rovers 1495..........He's a wind up merchant.
Take a look at what I have actually been saying about the state of the club. I am in no way trying to wind anyone up with my opinions and comments. If you would like to debate anything I have actually said then I would like to hear your opinions too. I am Steve Kean and I am a Rovers fan. I am not a Dingle, i am not a wind up merchant, but I do get annoyed with terrible grammar and spelling. I demand the best from the town i represent.

Do I have to cure cancer to get some credit. Quote 'Nunes assists Nuno Gomes'. Lets put all prejudice a side and have a think. These two players were both subs. I am the manager, ie. I make the subs. Go on, just a little bit of credit. A tiny little bit?
I dont need players to make me look good, just a sharp suit, shoe polish and a winning smile.

Friday's match is live on tv, so the "Spartans" do not need to go to Ewood park to see the team win. They can show their support for the "CLUB" by watching in pubs, clubs and at home along with the "Boycotters". This will show the media, Venky's, Shebby etc that the "fans" will return once Kean is history.
Just think what affect an empty stadium would have never in the history of football would the power of the fans be shown to be so powerful. Give the game back to the fans, not the play thing of people who do not care two hoots for the game.

I'm still going and will die a blue, but I have noticed in our space crowds, a lot of familiar faces from years back, before the money before the glory years. Proper fans sticking by a club through thick and thin. I suspect more than half of these stay aways probably supported Liverpool in the 70's and 80's and hooked onto Rovers when Jack W turned up.
And if you want to chant anti Kean on the game , so be it, I'd love to see the back of him, too many sweatys managing English clubs cos they suck up to owners in a style the jocks and paddys always have. Well said, I was their last night in the darwen end and I thought we had that extra class which I think will be the difference this season. Chanting Kean out when we have just scored a goal is bad, in fact it makes us look stupid in my opinion, I don't want him at our club but like I have always said I will support those 11 players, leave the protests outside the ground or at least if we are loosing games playin rubbish football then fair enough.
Anyhow, why would I want to stay away, it's about taking the rough with the smooth, he good and the bad times if everybody stayed away we wouldnt have a club left, we are top of the league, unbeaten, plenty to cheer about. NO NAY NEVER!

Shut up u moron, are you supporting Rovers or Kean?

Why not stick with rovers and forget who the manager and owners are, have you ever thought that the negativity of the fans chanting 'Kean Out' rubs off on the players and effects the way they play??

How about not using up your energy on kean and use it on rovers who are at the heart of this and what really matters, its all about pushing the players on and encouraging them to thrive and push them in the right direction rather than breeding the negativity on the pitch, were a laughing stock week in week out with the away fans due to the fact that we always chanting kean out and they join in cause this will impact the way our players perform.

I was at the game yesterday, nobody has mentioned etuhu, even though he is big and strong and lundges in time to time he had the ball quite often yesterday and what did he do everytime he got the ball even when in space, pass it to another player who has a defender marking him close by, etuhu needs to use his size and power to push forward and run with the ball, all he tends to do is win the ball and pass it rather than using the space he has.

Even though the turn out is dire i only hope this gets better, just waiting to play burnley cause thats when all the rovers fans will come and once they watch rovers play burnley (depending on a good result at the end of it) we should see plenty more of them supporters coming back for more.

You call me a moron? Then you say support the team? Your very next sentences are to call the players? Especially Etuhu, who I believe has not played many games for his new club. At least I am only calling for Kean to go. Once he has gone and I and the rest of the10,000 boycotters return we will at least be supporting the players on the pitch unlike you.

I went to ewood for the first time in a long while to see if some of the comments I read here have any basis.Pleased to see Rovers win BUT the defense was a shambles, the odious one appears(as reported) to be tactically clueless.I though we had a defensive coach?Murphy , our captain, was easily the worst player on the pitch-off the pace, passes going astray and generally not putting a shift in. Away games for me till the clown goes.

Nobody is bullying anybody! All one side is doing is making suggestions as to the best way to reunite the fans. Some suggest boycotting to make the owners realise they are wrong in employing Kean. Others suggest going and supporting the team. Both points of view are valid. Eventually the boycotters will prevail and Kean will be history. May that day be soon.

Ditto.........The wheels WILL come off. Kean out =packed Ewood.
Kean Out = Packed Ewood??? Even when we won the league we never packed it!!!

Don't get me wrong I can't stand the little donut but were top of the league and to say we've only played sh1t teams i think is a little harsh, Leicester & Leeds are both favourites for promotion whilst Hull are looking good as well so I dont think its all doom & gloom!!
