Kean admits he has not seen signings 'live'

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Steve Kean has admitted he had not seen his trio of deadline day signings play live before they arrived at Ewood Park.

Portuguese defender Nuno Henrique and midfielder Diogo Rosado, and Polish goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski, were all signed last Friday, with Kean admitting he had little to do with their arrival.

Rovers have now signed six Portuguese players this summer and the Rovers boss confirmed they have mostly been brought in by global advisor Singh.

Kean said: "We would like to think they are in the club just now and we can take a real look at them.

"I have not seen them play live, Shebby was very excited about them coming and was telling me how good they were.

"So we have now got them in the club and we would like to think we can improve any player who comes to the club and also integrate them as quickly as possible.

"Shebby Singh has identified these players (The Portuguese players). These players have been identified by Shebby, he has been very excited about the technical ability of these players. You can’t have too many good players.

"We have got them at the club and I would like to work with them intensely over the next couple of weeks to try and integrate them as quickly as possible, because we know how difficult it is. We have seen it with some players coming from foreign countries before."

This admission does not surprise me in the slightest. His attempts at "point scoring" are pathetic. The organisation of this great club is now rotten to the core and this tit-for-tat power struggle between Shabby & Keanocchio is only going to make it worse.

Another excuse from the Kean book of excuses. Getting them in before he is found out as a charlatan...oops! Too late we already know he is one.

Oh dear. Why is he saying this, other than he has not thought much of them when they have arrived and doesn't want to be associated with their signing. To those who predictably start slagging him off, Rovers are not the only club where the manager is only partially involved in signings.

What a Shambles all three players have all played for lowly teams often on loan from other nothing teams. So shebby must have a penchant for watching fringe players at lowly teams in the Portuguese and polish leagues. This again smacks of agent involvement and Kean wants to distance himself from it. If any of these players stars for our first team i’ll apologise, but I won’t hold my breath for this happening.

He(Kean) has no excuses left and the players that have become part of the squad HE must bring the best out of them along with his staff.

Had the odious one done the job in the first place with the selection of HIS players then he would not have found himself in this position of having players bought and brought in over his daft head.

Everyone is expendable - yes, even the odious one who is not bullet proof !

Prove your worth as manager and manage these players and stop making excuses for the possible failure further down the line ?

You brought this situation upon yourself by overextending with your abilities, and now look were it as got you !

We have no sympathy for your plight only a demand that you live up to your own hype anything less is failure, and you know it !

Good luck to the 3 new faces in that they fit in with the odious one ?

Hi moh, the point i was making is that none of them has much of a history. I am also certain that shebby hasn't been out watching and tracking them. In effect shebby is either signing them on agent's advice, or doing his scouting on youtube, both of these aren't the way to go about signing players. Rhodes, I admit though was an excellent signing, although we did appear to vastly overpay; I don’t think we had much choice as top strikers from the premier league or abroad either won’t come to the championship or would want too much money, and anyway, if Rhodes does take us up the £8m would be a bargain anyway. So yes in this one instance well done Shebby.

The fact it turned out to be a good signing had not one thing to do with Kean.

The manager will submit a list of ideas he has for players, he will also get given a list of possible players. This is the way it has always been. Scouts are not a new thing. They go out and find someone. They recommend them to the manager. If the manager has time he will go and watch them. If not he will go on the advice of the guy whose job it is to go and find good new talent - the scout.

Perhaps the only difference is that Kean does not have final say on who comes in and out - if he doesn't then he is not the only manager in this position. Brendan Rogers tried to sign Dempsey but was blocked from doing so, and came out in public to say so.

This really is a nothing story that is being blown out of proportion.

Fair enough dislike Kean, but we can't keep blaming him for everything. If we lose the next few as everyone is predicting due to a change in luck, he will be gone. If not we will be clear at the top. Things are starting to look good either way.

I did wonder when he had seen these players, I thought maybe on lots of video footage etc. But no, coco te clown comes out & admits he has never seen these unknown squad members & like the joke club we have become, he will see if they are any good & he can fit them in the team, once we have signed them & paying them a wage. UNfekinbelievable, the idiots left running club are either mad or very cunning & lining their own pockets. So until they go, I won't be goin back :-(

Fully expect Kean to treat these 3 players like **** and freeze them out of the first team, and then afterwards say they were not good enough...if he is still here in say 6 months to a years time. That will be just to score points of Shebby and the Venkys.
-
Much like way he was treated both Rochina and Goodwillie. Frozen them out and treated them like ****, when if he had included them more often in games, the team would have performed better on the pitch. In Rochina's case we could have stayed up if that idiot had played him more.
-
All in all, Kean is a vindictive lieing a-hole and needs to be sacked.
-
I feel sorry for these three lads as I guarantee they will never be given a chance to prove themselves. Unless Kean has suddenly turned over a new leaf.

While I have no intention of defending the evil one, this brings to mind a player called Grabbi, brought to our club for circa 7 million by Souness. He ran onto the pitch for his first game weighing at least half a stone overweight. No-one will convince me Souness saw him 'live' before he bought him.

When you put a piece like that together it's llike you just woke up.

The script so far is everyone is being treated like fools and made to follow a clown whilst he dismantles a very good team which drops through the leagues, if you think he is up to it, get behind him, otherwise stop making ridiculous excuses for a loser and help make him get the message.

Venky's hadn't seen Steve Kean managing a football team before giving him the Rovers job, so it seems to be the way we run things at Ewood Park these days. In fact why don't we wait to see them play badly in the reserves for a game or two and then give them better and longer contracts? Does this sound familiar?

As a big club manager, Kean should have say in a better way than I did not seen them live playing, I feel Kean answer in a very stright forward manner and give a kick to shebby also, that this players is yours , take responsibility.
First Time I did not support Kean on this remark.

Kean should showcase that he is No.1 in Blackburn club, this is getting uprooted with such comments and shebby will get the clap, Kean will get the slap.

Kean is doing good with his first team on each ground. Hope Murphy - Robbo - Gomes - Givet will balance the team inside the ground with more control on each department.

All the best, I love to see the next match. Good Luck.

Kean's recruitment efforts to date have been disappointing. Singh now obviously has a mate who's an agent with strong Portuguese links. We stagger from one embarrassment to another.

This suggests some more in-fighting for the 'power struggle' currently ongoing at Ewood, and while Shebby's away, Kean will have his say.

Make no mistake, SK is manipulative and this disclosure is not happening by chance. SK has his own agenda, namely his survival.

Clubs have scouts, that's their job to seek out and select players to come into a club. Managers don't personally vet every single acquisition, it's not possible.

Does Pardew at NUFC watch all his signings? No. He leaves it to Allan Carr's dad to sort it out for him, and good he is too.

Kean is following his own agenda.

Not going BACK

Till Kean's got the SACK!

Why on earth would he say this if not to try and undermine Shabby - disgraceful that he would take this into the public domain.

Come on Shabby, get a grip and sack the cretin - you'd have an extra six thousand on the next game, buy the goodwill of the town and probably get at least one sponsor back. I am convinced that it wouldn't matter who you brought in - they'd be better than the Keano.

"rod of the rovers" (@6.37) makes an excellent posting to but it into prospective.
Going to the media with these comments, Conman Kean has made it clear he is not the person this time to blame for the new signing YET he has (apart from his claim to having single handedly discovered Phil Jones) NOT ONCE made a genuine "find" or signing while at the club....FACT !

Still, you have to give him credit
for being prepared to put these new players through his "intense" workout to try and mold them into the Kean culture !
(even though you would think this ould be a standard procedure with any new signing).
Of course conman Kean has seen it all before with overseas players, YET we would not understand the need for them to adjust to the physical Championship league, the laugage, the food, the set-up, the new teamates...the whole Lancashire culture AND the BIGGIE, understanding what intent comes out of Kean,s mouth !
(one feels Kean would mess up Messi if given half a chance)

We will not be holding our breath on this outcome then...

I don't get this "Thank Shebby for chasing Rhodes" line. All he did was throw more money at Huddersfield and Rhodes with the owners' blessing. Chri$t, you or I can pick up a 'phone and write a cheque.

That doesn't strike me as "chasing" someone as I understand it.

As for the Portugese players; I didn't realise coverage of the Portugese junior or reserve leagues was so popular in Malaysia. Is his assessment of their technical ability based on recent (live or TV) viewings of them or from ten years ago playing in a school XI whilst he was on his hols on the Algarve? Can anyone supply a list of the other players he has "discovered" in Portugal or anywhere else for that matter? Apart from Titus that is.

It has been noted on these pages it is more than a little suspicious all these guys from Portugal suddenly rolling up. Can't disagree with that.

Or is this just yet another example of a vastly underqualified person being given a position of responsibility in what is, like it or not, a multi million pound business? They do seem to have a knack of doing that, our owners.

Of course, Kean is retaliating first; washing his hands of any responsibility for them being signed - and you can't really blame him in a way. Mind you, he did buy into this whole farce at the outset for which he is every bit as much to blame, as he is for continuing to put up with it.

It also suggests he has now seen them and isn't impressed; he would have kept his powder dry, waiting to claim the credit had they been any good.

One thing is certain; this continues to be a ridiculous way to run a football club.

Good post Whappen. I am in total agreement. My praise for Shebby in the Rhodes transfer was only because I think a goal scorer like Rhodes could be the difference between going up, and staying down. To be honest I don't know what kind of role Shebby had in that deal, but he seemed to be the only person who was prepared to step forward and discuss our bids for Rhodes, so I presumed he was a central player in the deal going through.

I am a bit surprised after scrolling through the other posts that all people want to do is attack Kean all the time. I am not saying he doesn't deserve most of it, but for me, the fact we are bringing in unknown players through a tv pundit who has only worked in relative obscurity in the far east is the issue in this news item. Before people start saying that he can't be worse than Kean, think about what happens when Kean is gone - will Shebby still be making signings (if so what basis is he selecting players to sign)? Will a new manager put up with this situation? And is there something dodgy financially happening?

CRYER BLASTS KEAN ON TALK SPORT RADIO
Whilst relaxing at home last Thursday (30th August) I had Talk Sport radio switched on in the back ground.
Imagine my surprise when presenter Jason Cundy announced that their special guest that evening was to be none other than the Lancashire Telegraphs Andy Cryer to discuss all things Blackburn Rovers prompted by the day’s news that Jason Rhodes had signed for the Rovers at a fee of £8 million, a record between two Championship teams. Rovers barely merit a mention on this National Radio station let alone being the night’s main topic. So I eagerly awaited Cryer’s arrival with excited anticipation. Cryer didn’t disappoint.
With the programme heading towards midnight I presume most Rovers fans will have missed what Cryer (pic above) had to say, let me enlighten you.
Asked about the Jason Rhodes transfer and fee, which amazed presenter Crundy (a former Chelsea player) Cryer said he thought it was a “last throw of the dice by Mrs Anuradha Desai to save Kean his job and get Rovers back into the Premiership” , although Cryer went on to say he thought Kean (was not the man for that job and that a great opportunity was lost in May when Rovers should of made a change and started the season with a new man in charge creating a new impetus at Ewood. This had led to the fans deserting Ewood Park in their thousands”.
Presenter Jason Cundy suggested that the Rovers fans were ill advised to carry on their protest at Kean’s management and should now get behind him. Cryer retorted “not so, what you have to remember” said Cryer “is that no manager in football league history has survived in his job for so long with a such bad record as Kean. “ Rovers fans know he is not up to his job and now have deserted the club in droves.” With gates of barely 13,500 at both opening home games, down by almost 50% from the Allardyce era, even taking into consideration the loss of Premiership football, it is amazing”.
Cryer went on to point out to Cundy that Rovers fans were no different from anyone else. Giving Liverpool fans as an example when they wanted rid of Roy Hodgson. Their protest lasted no more than a week or two over a handful of games and then Hodgson was gone. “Rovers fans have been totally ignored and treated with contempt by Mrs Anuradha Desai and they have now had enough and will not return whilst Kean is at the club in his £1.3 million pound job, no matter what League position he obtains or what players he signs the damage is done” said Cryer.
Asked if he thought Kean’s Job was in danger Cryer Replied “it should be, for him to fail now after major capital investment in the team is unthinkable, (no less than 12 new players) Cryer went on to reveal that Rovers have at least 6, and possibly more players on £35,000 per week. Unheard off outside the Premiership and a massive wage bill” that Cryer does not think is sustainable without large attendances. The whole tone of Andy Cryer’s interview was anti-Kean and Venky’s, he sounded much more disillusioned speaking than he does in print.
Presenter Jason Cundy asked what Cryer considered to be the minimum expectation from the Rovers for Kean to keep his job. Cryer replied “a top two finish and never out of the top 6 at any stage of the season, anything less, given the backing he has received would be failure and Desai could not possibly continue to justify keeping Kean in employ”.
Jason Cundy ventured to say that Cryer came over more as a fan than a journalist. Andy Cryer then revealed that he comes from Bristol, and that Bristol City is his club. But he has grown to love Blackburn and it’s football team and now feels a part of it and wants the Rovers to rise again just as any fan does.
Andy Cryer, has obviously during the course of his job, worked closely with Steve Kean since Kean took over from Allardyce in December 2010. It is obvious that Cryer does not hold Kean in high regard (but we knew that already through his Lancashire Telegraph column) hearing him and the tone of his voice on live radio was however different and put a different complex on matters. Somewhere on the way the professional relationship between Cryer and Kean has broken down, but that is par for the course with Kean.
Finally presenter Cundy questioned why the Venky’s had not invested this type of money into the team when they were still in the Premiership? Cryer’s reply “it is a mystery, but I don’t think Kean is the right man to receive and handle this type of investment”.
AND SO SAY ALL OF US..

Good Luck.

Simon Vuckevic has also played in the champions league for Sporting as i saw him play versus FC Twente in 2009 while working in Lisbon, He was man of the match in my opinion in a team with Liedson, Miguel Veloso and Joao Moutinho, Simon is also Montenegro's most capped player yet appently he is not good enough to play for us?

If he won't give Vuckevic a chance i can't see him playing Rosado.
