Kean confident of Olsson stay at Blackburn Rovers

STEVE Kean is confident that Martin Olsson will remain a Blackburn Rovers player after Friday’s transfer deadline despite continuing reports of interest from elsewhere.

Olsson’s agent Martin Dahlin confirmed earlier this summer that the 24-year-old wanted to leave Rovers in search of top flight football, but Kean is eager to hang on to a player who still has three years left on his contract at Ewood Park.

Rovers batted away interest in the Swede earlier this summer and insists they have received no bids since then, although West Bromwich Albion are pondering a move before Friday’s transfer deadline – with Aston Villa, Sunderland and Stoke also linked.

Olsson is currently recovering from a groin operation but Kean revealed that he could soon be back in action.

Asked about interest from clubs in Olsson, the Rovers boss said: “We did have interest a number of weeks ago but we told them he’s not for sale and he’s not fit.

“We want to keep the majority of the squad together and Martin is one that we want to keep.

“It’s difficult when somebody’s injured and not playing but he’s making progress. I think he’s got a chance within the next 10 days to get himself fully fit.”

Olsson was joined at Ewood by twin brother Marcus in January, but Kean says that is unlikely to have any bearing on the long-serving Rover’s future.

“I think Martin is enjoying playing with his brother here,” said the Scot.

“Whether that will have a bearing on seeking to play his football elsewhere, I would doubt that, but we can only just take any bid that comes in and pass on the information that we’d like to keep him.”

Giver is much better at centre half than left back and, let's face it, Dann isn't proving to be what we thought he was. But playing people to their strengths doesn't happen in a Steve Kean team.

Olsson or Warnock would do for me...but Olsson staying would send a message to the rest of the teams that we are not going to be hanging around in the chumpionship...it is a one season visit only.
Ever the optimist, Frenchy :) BTW heard a story that Police have Wednesday's attendance at 11,300. I'll check that out with my family who are stationed at Greenbank and let you know.
Well that would put the home support at about 10,000 then. Sad really.
