Orr: Blackburn Rovers need to find that winning feeling
9:50am Tuesday 21st August 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
DESPERATE FOR A WIN Bradley Orr, pictured during Saturday’s draw at Ipswich, is hopeful of a result against Hull tomorrow
BRADLEY Orr has stressed the importance of getting that ‘winning feeling’ as soon as possible after insisting it would ease the nerves around Ewood Park.
The Blackburn Rovers full back believes there is an inevitable “edginess” around the club as they look to repay the faith put in them – but is confident a win at home to Hull tomorrow would settle everyone down.
Orr described Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich as a “decent” start to their Championship campaign but is adamant there is a lot more to come from a team still trying to gel.
And, with eight new signings already made this summer, Orr believes opening their home campaign with victory would be a big step forward in their bid to earn an instant Premier League return.
Orr said: “Hopefully we can get off to a winning start at home and take that into the weekend. We need to make sure we are right for that.
“Once you get your first win under your belts, it puts everyone at ease. At the start of any season, it is always a bit cagey and edgy because you don’t want to let anyone down.
“We have to pull together off the back of a decent away point and move on and be nice and positive at home and try and get the three points.”
Rovers gave full league debuts to four summer signings on Saturday, with Paulo Jorge making his as a substitute, as they were made to work hard to return from Suffolk with a point.
Jason Lowe’s own goal left the travelling army disappointed with what seemed a defensive second half display, but Orr insists it should not be considered a bad start.
“We went to a very hostile, tough place to go against a good young team, who have been together a while,” he said. “To take a point is maybe not too bad and considering the conditions, it was the hottest I had ever played in, we can’t be too disappointed with that.
“I think it will take a bit of time, that is natural. The signs were promising though. The new lads have come and stamped their authority.
“I think it will only get better because the more we play together and get to know each other more, the more it will help.
“The new lads, not only their ability but the personalities will start to come out. You have big characters like Danny Murphy, Dickson Etuhu and Colin – among others – who have a massive part to play and the more we play together the more their personalities will come out. We can only expect more.”
“A couple of the lads in the middle of the park got bookings and you were a little bit wary to press in case you picked up a second yellow card. Because we were a goal up your mentality changes and you do drop a bit deeper and try to hit them on the break.
“Credit to Ipswich, they have got some good players and will cause a threat against a lot of teams. We had chances but in the end it was a fair result and not a bad one.”

And it wasn't "a very hostile, tough place to go" - the home fans were pretty much silent til the own goal.
If you think that's hostile, wait til we get to Leeds and Millwall. You'll be browning your shorts!

A new range of excuses for the new season - forgive me, but havent some of our new boys been playing in portugal and turkey - -isn't it a bit hot there?
equally using bookings as an excuse for defending deep - what total garbage we did it last season too. we are either
1) unfit
2) complacent
both of these lie at the door of the manager to sort out and take responsibility for
no doubt we will hear this week how we have "had a meeting to sort this out and we have been working hard in training and the lads have looked great in training"
same garbage....different season....different league

I never witnessed anything of the sort from Ipswich ? What I did witness was a fine away following creating the 'atmosphere' that bordered on the hostility toward Kean, but in the main the vocal support was tremendous toward the team for nigh on 90 minutes.
Ipswich sang at the volume of 8 once after they scored.
Maybe Orr is alluding to another hostile atmosphere ?
Kean was gently baited on Saturday that is a fact.
The team became paralyzed with fear and, imo, a lack of leadership from the sidelines, but that is just my observation.

I felt that we were more interested in being vocal for the team. It is difficult to continue a vocal support when the inactivity from the bench for that on the pitch becomes negative.
And yes, the odious one had an easy ride all things considered because we respect our team, badge and shirt.
Hmm, your observation over Gomes ? You are possibly correct, but I would hope he grows into the role quickly ? We will see mate ?

Orr always cry like this-we unite and play strong and win next game, result after the game is poor-poor-poor, Ask him to focus on ball control and pass to the correct man. Midfiled players should stay in midfield area. never go deep...deep. If any player got yellow card, Why kean/support staff is not thinking for the correct substitute in the correct time and keep the pace of the game. We said we have good bench strength to substitute any player, but Kean is not sure about players while the game is ON.
Winning team always win with more goal margin and clean sheet.(see the last week City game, Chelsea game or barcilona game is an example).
Kean should read "Dummies for Football Player's Substitution" Book from UK stores.
All the best to Blackburn Rovers Team. Win is must in Ewood

It would be easier for the Venkys to just appoint a decent manager, that was capable of getting the players to win matches. Rather than to spend all of this time and money on releasing statements to the press to appease the fans.
-
Why not just sack Kean, replace him with a competent manager, and then you would not have to bother with all of this media ****?
-
No that would be too easy for WANKeys.

Just can't help feeling though there is another more important piece of the jigsaw that needs changing to ensure we have a memorable year with a unified support backing us up instead of the disjointed mess we have at the moment. Is the penny beginning to drop pal ?
The odious one was mesmerized duly into his dugout Saturday, and I'm insure as to why ?
A few possible scenarios could be arrived at, but the certainty is he did not imo help the team on Saturday when it was screaming out for direction and help. It did not happen from my perspective thus we have a mirrored image of the managers team for all the world to see. Interpretation of opinion will thus begin ?
A draw at Ipswich under normal circumstances would more than suffice, but these are extraordinary times with the boast from the odious one that an immediate return to the top flight is the ambition thus not much room for error is acceptable, and these are the words of the wise from within the club. So we debate on that basis.
A high standard as been set on the back of abject failure right through the club.
I wish for nothing but the best for our football club and team although I have deep reservations over the current staff at Ewood.

Just thoughts of how important tomorrow nights game is to the club, to our team, to our future. A loss and the snowball of negativity will roll right over everyone and smother the 'swan' and any slim hopes of success that we had for this season will be gone.
Not usual I know to judge the season by the second game of the season - but with all that has happened with the rotteness that has infected our club then we need the win as much as any win we ever needed before. It wont be a cure-all and wont hasten the odious ones departure - but it will be a sign of things to come that may point that the club will be still be ok once we rid Ewood of the plague that descended upon us.

I heard that L.T. are thinking about dropping BFC news due to lack of interest. No doubt you'll be on here soon again. You know its better on this side of the fence, don't you.Oh yes you do!... See you soon. Oh, sorry I forgot you'll probably be down on Weds night. Then on here at night.
Ahh you feel for them don't you...those BFC supporters. Its not their fault...its the family's .. Its the inbreeding that causes it, you see. They didn't want to be this way. But what can you do. They know they shouldn't be on here but the temptation of something thats better gets to them, Like chidren pressing their noses against the sweet shop window. Looking in, at all the commotion going on within and deep down they all know that even with all that commotion going on, their Club will never achieve what our's has. Ahh you have to feel for them, you really do. I feel like starting a whip round for them, but then again...

Why do you think that Steve Kean is still the manager? I assume that you know he is the worst manager in the history of Blackburn rovers in the premier league. I also assume that you know that a manager is a very big part of a teams results, so you cannot just have good players and expect promotion, if he remains as manager.
-
I am struggling to understand how Steve Kean is still the manager, he has no record of management at any other team and at Blackburn he got a team which had spent 11 seasons in the premier league relegated in his first full season.

On a more general note, if they do use excessive force, it would seem responsible and appropriate to bring their illegal actions to the notice of the police, don't y'think?
They'll probably be chasing half of them around Blackburn or Bolton or Burnley town centre (whats left of it) or wherever late on a Friday night anyway, so they'll have an opportunity to give themselves a quieter weekend.
