BLACKBURN ROVERS COLUMN: Last chance saloon for Kean to get this right
2:00pm Thursday 16th August 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
ANYONE who was at the open meeting between supporters and Shebby Singh on Saturday morning and thought it ‘went well’ was surely in the wrong place.
Singh has made a good impression since coming in as global advisor but on Saturday he made his first big ‘gaffe’.
It was far from his finest hour.
I have no problems with setting Steve Kean targets – after all he is the luckiest man to be in a job as it is – but the personal comments about both the Scot and Morten Gamst Pedersen were completely out of order.
Shebby is adamant his comments about Pedersen were misinter-preted and that he wasn’t describing the Norwegian when he mentioned the word ‘pensioner’. He also insists his off-the-cuff personal comments about Kean were said in ‘jest’ and that he is deeply sorry for any hurt caused.
I believe him. I don’t believe he meant any harm but that does not take the away the fact that he should not have said what he said.
His efforts of trying to appease the supporters went too far, far too far.
Some of Rovers’ squad are rightly upset about the Pedersen comm-ents.
Singh has apologised though and we now have to move on.
After all the talk, the posturing and the bold promises, the moment of truth is finally upon us.
Blackburn Rovers fans have had to put up with another eventful summer off the field, as boardroom and management issues at Ewood Park continued to over take the football.
Singh’s explosive comments over the weekend were far from perfect timing – or well advised – but, despite his warnings, Kean has had things the way he wanted this summer.
The under fire manager somehow managed to save his job in crisis talks in India earlier this summer and since then has been backed to the hilt, financially at least, to bring together a squad he wants.
The majority of the squad are now behind him, although there is a dissenter or two left out in the cold, and there are simply no excuses now not to deliver.
Kean has already signed eight players this summer and, having been promised a team the Championship should be frightened of, the fans will rightly expect nothing but promotion.
Anything else but a return to the Premier League will be deemed a failure and, with big wages being paid to players on long contracts, not returning to the top flight could well prove expensive.
Rovers have made some good signings over the past few months, along with a few that have raised eyebrows and left us all unsure about what is to follow.
Singh’s pledge that Kean would be sacked if Rovers lost three games in a row was an unwise thing to do in front a room of supporters but I don’t disagree.
Surely Kean has been given too many chances already, but things like this are better said behind closed doors.
This has to be last chance saloon for the man still looking to prove he can cut it as a manager. He knows it, the fans know it and you just hope Venky’s know it.
Rovers’ Championship kick-off at Ipswich on Saturday is supposed to be a new dawn. We have heard it all too often and it will need to be seen to be believed.

These people will only be satisfied when Kean is gone regardless of the position the club may find themselves in.
Hopefully, as promised through these columns, they haven't renewedtheir tickets and wont be near Portman Road or Ewood over the first 3 games so we dont have to tolerate their 5th column attitude.

It's a shame the 'Kean Out' Brigade don't understand new dawns and will undoubtedly do their best to undermine the club once again instead of getting behind 'everyone' and making a positive impact on the league table.

Shebby said what we all wanted to hear about Kean. How many times will you say "surely this is Keans last chance" and then come out with articles like this. Kean should have a website with a counter to his target and if not met, gets sacked.
You live in a fastasy world mate where people don't get sacked, they "resign" behind closed doors. Kean should be publicly humiliated for what he has done to BRFC.

I think comments like this should be out in the open. Its either a false statement or a statement that says, 'the world knows you have pressure on you and you HAVE to deliver because how you are still in a job is the 8th Wonder of the World!
Lets see how true the Circus owners are and how 'good' Kean is!

Turn up and cheer brainlessly and the club we love will sink ever deeper into the mire.

… eh up sis you aint set this recorder right, its finished too soon , we’ve missed Rovers game, don’t worry bro there’s always next week, anyway that team Steve said we’ll finish above this season Chelsea United are on telly tonight.
Text Steve for score, he said it’ll be a tough first game against Suffolk Town and we might lose, in fact all the first three games are against the favourites for the EPL Championship(he did say EPL bro? yes sis, they’ve added Championship this year to make it more cosmopolitan just for us, to help us sell our chickens.

The Championship is a tough division to escape from, filled as it is with pirhana teams like Derby, Barnsley or Peterborough, (small, unlikely to be promoted but with vicious teeth). These teams are looking for the 'big' beast to beat.
Kean has proved, since becoming manager, that he hasn't the ability to think laterally, he has one game plan and when that doesn't work stands in the technical area looking glum and helpless.
With a crop of new, untried players, most of whom have never played at this level, I believe Kean will be totally out of his depth howsoever many games he is given to succeed.
I hope, like the 'new dawn' supporters, that I am wrong and that the season will be crowned with success, but I doubt it.

New dawns, Hmmmmm the new dawn started 18 months ago and has gone downhill ever since has it not or have you been asleep all that time.
As far as going to Ewood no I personally won't be going whilst Kean is in charge but I will be at Portman road supporting my team.
If you find it easy to forget what has gone on and what is still going on then good luck to you mate go and support this corrupt regime but don't call those who chose to abstain, we are all fans together with different opinions, none of which is perfect.

I have not seen a hint of this yet, his set-up is appalling as are his changes that he makes during a game. This man is not a manager by any stretch of the imagination.
I can't believe that after a summer of relatively big investment, the manager, the man most at fault for our relegation, is still there.
Yet, I simply cannot hope he fails. Rovers need to go back up, we need to win games to do that and I am fully behind the lads this year, they all start with a fresh slate, unlike the manager. In return, all I ask is that no stupid comments are made and all players are honest about the situation like Kazim-Richards was the other day.
I refuse to suffer another season of players treating the fans as though we are stupid. Please don't make any stupid comments and just be honest, that's the least we expect.

That's what's wrong with this club "closed doors" everything is happening without the fans voice being heard. Kean doesn't understand the feelings of the fans,or he just ignores them.,either way perhaps a public slatting might just bring him to his senses, and if Shebby is truthful about 3 games lost then sack,so be it.If Kean is upset by those remarks, hard luck

Fair enough we wanted Shebby to say it about Kean but what a ridiculous thing to do just before the start of the season. Where is Agnew in all this! Any good PR guy - in fact anyone with a modicum of sense - would have stopped him from saying things that may be detrimental to the club and the start of the season. Agnew is a joke of a PR guy. Shebby could have said comments such as 'if we lose a run of games we will have to consider the managers position like any other club would'. And when asked about Pedersen, he could've said 'I am not here to comment on individual players'. Simple. I despair at the utter stupidity of the people employed at Ewood. I'm sure that Venky's are pretty good business people but they have employed garbage to look after their investment.
I don't like Kean but if we get off to a good start the players might just get us through the season. Excited about Ipswich now! Come on you blues!

The 'kean out' brigade are the only sector of Rovers support who see things as they really are. Only a burnley fan would fight for kean to stay in post, are we really supposed to say ' bless him, he did try his best'. The man is a footballing moron, he has proved over anfd over that he commands no presence in the team, he accepts no personal responsibility for mistakes flaws or breaking the law. He makes a muppet look like David Beckham or Alf Ramsey. I have noticed a 'softer' stance taken towards Kean on this site recently and it really does need to stop. Shabby Shebby tried to play one off against the other, bravely stating that kean would go if certain criteria were not met. Almost immediately he had to issue an apology for upsetting our beloved leader!!! The club tried to con its supporters that kean was on the edge, and they could not even do that properly. Kean has to go, Rovers can not succeed with this set of buffoons in charge. True supporters have to fight for the survival of the club we love. Every match we should drown out the opposition and our poor misguided owners by shouting KEAN OUT.... let every one hear the Rovers roar!

Venkys and Kean have not only destroyed BRFC but generations of supporters who's parents have worked hard in making their kids follow the team they love. Kids running around the streets with their Rovers shirt, is not by choice but an upbringing from their parents, supporters that care and have tradition about their football club. Any kid can wear Man Ure, Liverpool, Chelski shirts but don't know anything about them or why they are actually wearing them.To wear our colours, as kids / adults, we took flak and others laughed and thats why when our club won something, we deserved everything. Now all this has been taken away and it as nothing to do with us supporters. We could see this coming and no one wanted to listen, this is what is hurting everyone. We are back in the dark days, and yes, I think everyone really wants Rovers to do well and win, but the cancer inside Ewood is destroying any satisfaction of happiness until the growth has been removed!!
We have just got to be brainless supporters and forget the hurt the owners and Kean have caused us we need to get behind the team to achieve promotion.I still feel the Venkeys should go bust to get Rhodes in as he is a talent.

Well for thousands of Rovers fans it means they will never be inside Ewood Park whilst Kean is still manager. And so that we can return one day to our religion we will do anything possible to remove the worst manager in Rovers history who "Mr Cryer" is so many million miles past the "last chance saloon" it is embarrassing for you to use that phrase.

Shebby will be the same and as unprofessional and indecent those comments may have seemed they were hardly unwarranted. if we want to get back to top flight football, the axe has to be on the neck of the manager to make it happen and "loyal" servants of the club like MGP will have to know that there is no carrying of any member of the team, no how long their service.
The truth may hurt but it will be a lot worse if we slip further down the leagues.

Some of the delusions on this site is baffling. not renewing your season ticket is not now, or ever going to make Venkys go away. What it does is tell them in no uncertain terms that the fans are unhappy with the current state of affairs and things need to change. on the flipside, we still have a team that needs support and 8000 or so fans, many who will no doubt let Kean know what they think of him.
it is interesting that whilst some fans are getting abuse for renewing, others like Glen Mullan who are also attending the matches seem to be OK with it.

The biggest reasons for this are Keans shot comings and the lack of togetherness in the team. Which ever way you look at it the 3 games are pivotal, but I still think Kean will survive.

1) No matter what we lose by or whom we lose to or how many games we lose then Kean is not (unfortunately) going anywhere just yet.
2) The players are actually aligning with Kean now - due to Shebby's remarks about Pedersen. Who do you think called the Players Union in.
3) Boycotting fans wont make one iota of difference to the Venkys.
Kean is now using the Shebmesiters words against him and publicly slating Shebby off (today) in the media. It is quickly building to become a climax of 'personalities' between the two camps.
Who will be stronger and who will the Venky regime back? Kean or Shebby. The end game is on lads.....the winner takes all!

With Kean and the Venky's still in place we are going nowhere only further down. LET ask some home truths. See if you get real answers.
I can't understand why the Telegraph continues to give credibility to Shebby Singh and his position at the club. Friends in Asia have seen him over the years on the field and on TV. He was a second rate player (Malaysian international means absolutely nothing) and a fluent but erratic and unreliable commentator. Any UK based club appointing such a person to a key management role deserves not to be taken seriously. That the owners have appointed him and continue to place faith in a manager with a long and proven record of failure both on the field and in the transfer market shows that they really don't know the business of football. It remains a mystery as to why Venky's bought the club and why they hang on to it. The Telegraph and other media organisations have failed to properly investigate Venky's purchase of the club and the relationships between the owners, manager and agents.

That's before you even talk about drink driving convictions and disgraceful defamation of a fellow manager.
Cryer - You do talk utter cráp mate.

Surely the best thing for this season is to start with 2 consecutive calamitous defeats. Kean leaves, fans come back, Murphy player manager and results come. Prolonged and incompetent search for new manager becomes less important as Rovers move up the division.

When the venkys took Shebby on they knew what they were getting, this guy shoots from the hip and is a bit off the wall, and although maybe saying what he said in public as the club rep wasn`t , it was good to hear that his thinking is in line with most fans, personally I could not agree more with his Pedersen comments, hes been agreat serveant over the years , but both him and Dunn aged about 10 years last season. All taht said I am one ST holder who has renewed and I am looking forward to taking my seat and getting behind the team, last year was my darkest ever as a supporter, and although off the field events brought about the frustartions and protest in the from some fans, surely no-one can hope this continues. Those who wish to have made there voices heard , they have not renewed there tickets and that is there choice, i understand it but it is not my choice and I will be there, and I wish every bit of luck to the team we need to be back in the premiership, will we get there not sure , but I do know screaming abuse and giving off negatives to the lads on the pitch wont help.

"Massively disruptive this week" So now he feels he can lose at Ipswich with confidence knowing he can put the blame on Shebby. This poor excuse for a manager, and possibly a human being, will go to any lengths to secure his job. With the owners he has destroyed one of the best and well run clubs in Britain. The disruption he has caused is of a magnitude so great that it will take years to put right. And he now complains because someone had the cheek to tell him a few truths. Never in the history of Blackburn Rovers as there been such an odious, repulsive, ign

I don't care if the players enjoy training, I don't care if he gets on well with other managers. I just want to see him able to get it tactically right and be able to change it if it's not working.

KEAN OUT. Idiots who back kean for whatever reason start up your own pathetic web page and stay off this one.
your right he shouldnt be manager BUT rightly or wrongly he is so we have to deal with it, chanting kean out everygame will not help us win games...

Almost immediately he had to issue an apology for upsetting our beloved leader!!! The club tried to con its supporters that kean was on the edge, and they could not even do that properly. I am the same, it's because we come from a time where canes and blackjacks were used to instill discipline and nanny state softly softly approaches were sneered at not encouraged. I've no issues with what Singh has said and done up to this point, as long as he is able and willing to carry out what he has declared.
So that would be the early eighties when you were having some discipline knocked into you using medieval instruments of torture; hardly Victorian England. I'm in my fifties and corporal punishment had pretty much died out when I was at scool and certainly shortly after. Some public schools where hanging on to the old principles although the motives were a touch dubious. So who was thrashing you within an inch your lives? Your parents? Very responsible and always works, always.
You may not remember Monty Python as you're too young but I would urge you to search for their "Yorkshireman" sketch.
As for the Schei$ter; "it was good to hear that his thinking is in line with most fans". Please; how can you even begin to think this conman was being truthful? He has previous when it comes to pumping out bull$hit and has shown his "thinking" blows with the wind - or pay packet. He said what he said because it was what those he was saying it to wanted to hear.
Shoots from the hip? Says what he thinks? If that's what it is, then we've seen how much "power" he has to actually put anything he says into action - none. Kean, quite rightly, screams all the way to Pune and the Schei$ter comes out with his tail between his legs. Ooh, awesome power.
Don't forget, this man is nothing more than a pundit from a remote TV station half way round the world. What qualifications does he have to manage or advise or whatever the f@ck he's supposed to do, other than his previous job had "football" in the title? What experience does he have of the Nationwide or, worryingly, Division 1 of the FL? None. Oh yes, and he was already a Venky's employee - same as our man in Rio, y'now the guy running a Venky's factory/KFC whilst moonlighting as our South American scout.
Singh is another floundering fish from an ever decreasing pool of potential employees. Venkys have no real contacts within the game in this country - not even Hans Christian any more, except maybe via Kean. They would seem to rely almost exclusively on Kean's recommendations for jobs he should have no say in whatsoever; Agnew then, by association, Shaw (is that the chairman's name, I may have forgotten it), Kato as ground manager and Hendry as his new driver (although he is a coach, I suppose).
So, that's a Global Advisor who can't give advice and the two main officials who can't see further than Preston; any wonder Venkys don't sack Kean? If they did, who would they turn to for advice on a replacement? The worry is, if it was the Schei$ter, he would almost certainly recommend himself. More worryingly, the owners would think, "Hmmm, good call".
It's time some of us had some sense knocked back into us - or maybe just opened our eyes.

They will be plenty of out of work managers who would want a job simply because they haven't got one. Problem is there does not appear to be a need for anything like a decent CV required to get a job at Ewood these days. All the players and management are bothered about is getting paid their money. Aside from fans who work for the club (ticket office staff, stadium staff, Academy staff) I don't think any of them are really that bothered about the club. Kean has assembled a bunch of generals around him in order to protect his ambition for greed. Worthless individuals grabbing their slice of the pie while verbally championing their man (to be rewarded with future lucrative contracts and bonuses).
Problem is, our lot are not qualified to do there jobs and have insufficient ability.

He's lied and manipulated the truth beyond recognition and took the p155 out of us and you expect him to be supported? Your a fool.
It's a shame the 'Kean Out' Brigade don't understand new dawns and will undoubtedly do their best to undermine the club once again instead of getting behind 'everyone' and making a positive impact on the league table.
