Rovers up bid for Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes

BLACKBURN Rovers have upped their bid for striker Jordan Rhodes as they look to test Huddersfield’s ‘not for sale’ stance to the limit.

Rovers received a written letter from the Terriers rejecting their last offer and telling them they were not not selling the player – but the club are ready to test Huddersfield’s resolve.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands Rhodes would be in favour of a move to Ewood Park – if the clubs can agree a price – but is unlikely to attempt to force a move through himself.

Rovers have other targets in mind, should their new and final offer be rejected, with Manchester City’s John Guidetti top of their secondary wish list.

The Ewood Park outfit though are confident their latest offer, which is understood to be in the region of £5million plus significant add ons, will tempt their Championship rivals into selling.

The deal would also include a substantial sell-on fee going to Huddersfield on whatever profit Rovers make on him in the future.

Rovers are ready to offer Rhodes, 22, a bumper five-year deal making him among the highest paid players in the Championship – including a promotion bonus and pay rise.

Meanwhile Rovers remain set to sign Galatasaray striker Colin Kazim-Richards on a season-long loan, and Sporting Lisbon midfield Diogo Rosado imminently.

Both players have agreed personal terms, with just the final bits of paperwork needed to be sorted before the deals are clinched.

Striker Nick Blackman is set for a six-month loan move to Sheffield United, in the wake of Jordan Slew moving to Oldham on a similar deal earlier this week.

Olympiacos are also understand to retain their interest in unwanted midfielder Radosav Petrovic and could be ready to launch a bid to land him on loan, with a view to a permanent move.

It is also understood that Rovers have received loan enquiries for Morten Gamst Pedersen over the past couple of weeks, but the Ewood outfit are looking for a £3million fee for his permanent transfer.

Rovers travel to Cork for their final pre-season friendly of the summer on Sunday hoping to have their final squad in place for the new season.

Kazim-Richards and Rosado should be in place to join the squad, with Rovers still hopeful Rhodes will be on board in time.

We hear from Blobby Bobby a friend of Rhodes that Rhodes wont join Rovers because he has no respect for the coaching staff .

So positive news in here and would be ok, except for the fact that Mr Kean still has not grasped the fact that we need to bolster defence.

We cant be reliant on one of his many midfield players to play out of position at the back.

We need cover in all back positions.

Maybe we will score plenty but without the defence we are likely to concede plenty too!

I dont think the answers lie with Myles Anderson and Riberio ! Reports I have heard about them havent been good.

Of course they DON'T want this to go through! It's just a smoke screen like all the other "big" buys they were going to make. That is why Kean upsets them by making it public. They know they are being used just to keep Rovers fans quiet.

Lets turn these loans into transfers. If they are not wanted get rid, even at a reduced price it would be better just to get them off the wage bill. I think by 31st August the following will of been loaned or sold;
Robinson
Dann
Olsson
Petrovic
nZonzi
Pedersen
Blackman
Amine Linganzi
That will mean we will need at least 1CB and 1LB
I keep on banging on about it but we need DEFENDERS KEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hit the ground running, will sign in the next 24 hours, been an admirer for a long time, as a look of Ronaldo and on, and on, and on - yes the plank Kean never learns just churns out 'cr-p' at any given opportunity!!!! And now the 'final team' should be in place for trip to Ireland 'what team and one week to go before start of Championship' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even if he did get Rhodes which is doubtful, could never trust him or his mates at Ewood to come up trumps - totally out of touch with the fans and out of his depth in any division as a Manager - the whole footballing world can see this yet the Venkys/Singh can't or rather dont want to so that he can line theirs and his pockets!!!

Well that is exciting new the club seems keen on buying good players up front.I do agree with the philosophy that scoring goals will make the difference but I still fully believe that we require two decent defenders. The reason I want them to splash out on defenders is because Hanley.Dann,Olsson etc are just not good defenders and seem to panic when players run at them hopefully competition will ensure they start trying harder but last season the defence was a shambles and the right back position needs a proper player who can tackle.

yep, the lack of attention on getting some defenders in is worrying. it's creditable that we are still trying to get rhodes in, and if the new packages is anything like the LT are suggesting, i think huddersfield could well go for it.
if we were not to lose any of our defenders, we might just scrape through, but it's hard to see how we could cope with even one or two injuries. dann is hardly renowned for remaining injury free, olssen had to miss a chunk of last season, givet has a questionable health record... it doesn't inspire confidence.
and as you point out, there's only really givet in there who you would consider to be a reliable natural defender. hanley is also a classic old style defender, but his inexperience still shows.
having said all that, our defence will come under less pressure if we retain more posession and have a bit more organisation in midfield. so the new acquisitions in that area will definitely offset some of this defensive frailty.

Hope its true but its difficult to believe anymore. Only yesterday Keano says that if Huddersfield say the player is not for sale he'll respect it and move on. Today Rovers receive a written response saying exactly that and the bid is upped.

I really believe that this Shabby guy will sack Kean if he doesn't deliver in the first six games! I was present at the Bamber Briedge v Rovers game a few weeks ago and he was there, even though it was the youth team and he seemed to be quite open and honest when he was chatting. I am informed that Shabby does not rate Kean and conversations have already been had and September will be decision time if performances are dire!! Anyway, like a dillusional idiot I am, I renewed my 3 season tickets and requested to move my seat positions, if vacant, to another location. Rovers rang yesterday to say we could sit anywhere we wanted in any area!! September can't come soon enough. Take back Ewood!!

Still amazes me that any one can actually be sound enough in the head to want to clean keans slate, like it was some kind of childs game were you just rub out the mistakes on a black board or just re-invent another game that makes you look the winner or move the goal posts to suit your self, in this case keans and venkys ,sorry if this is what they call being transparent and honest forget it.As soon as there is a problem this season expect the same excuses and lies from keanocciho and Co,and i am certain now that shebby singh will be cleaning the slate clean again for his masters kean, venkys, anderson. No i am not falling for this bunch of crooks lies again DEFO NO SEASON TICKET NOW.Expect a strategically counter communications ploy from shebby singh tommorow at the meeting,it will all sound so plausable but utterly meaningless,i am more worried now now that venkys may have possibly infultrated and could be manipulating things close to the heart of BRAG meeting Remember EYES WIDE OPEN.

I agree with the most of this but I believe that Shebby Singh is there to get rid of him!! Ask him out right about what matters to him and would he have Kean working for his company? We all know that he wanted Kean out when he was reporting for ESPN, so I really don't believe that he could ever support Kean in what he is trying to do!! I don't think anyone wants to wipe the slate clean for Kean but some supporters are finding it difficult to turn their back on the club, and keep hoping for a turnaround. Anyway, keep the faith in whatever Rover supporter is currently believing in at the moment. We are all longing for the days when we can become one yet again.

If Venky's sacked Kean now and got someone in who actually knows how to manage a football club then there could be a chance of them turning this around. If they persist with Kean then there is absolutely no hope for the club. The Venky woman is absolutely clueless about football (as is her husband), her brothers are just plain clueless and Kean is beyond help. I don't mind them p1ssing their own money away, but when it's Jack Walker's legacy they're p1ssing away then they deserve no respect or sympathy - particularly when they completely ignore ALL Rovers' supporters who want Kean out (along with his useless snide chum Hendry).

Someone should ask Shebby tomorrow to name a target number of points that Kean must attain from the first 10 games to keep his job.
.
They should also ask Shebby what he thinks of Kean's record as a football manager.
.
Also ask him which out of work manager he most respects. This should give us an idea of how his particular brain works.

I'l also be there tomorrow although I don't expect much apart from a charming, funny man talking a lot of hot air

We could ask him -

1 - BRFC is owned by "venkys London" but who actually owns "venkys London" ?

or

2 - Why have Venkys recently refused to answer a list of questions given to them from the UK sports minister about who actually owns Venkys and other questions relating to possible criminal activity within the club in the last 18 months.

or

3 - How can he be expected to sack Steve Kean if Rovers start the season badly - Kean is WAY above SS in the company structure - has anyone ever known an employee of a company sack a company owner ?

Using a metaphor to get the point across, ask him 'if you boarded a plane and just before take off you were told the pilot was actually an air steward (trolly dolly) would he be ok with this and continue on the flight?'

He should answer no clearly. If he does, then point out that that is exactly what Venky's have done to our club. They have put a trolly dolly in command!!

Ask him, when they want to improve their chicken profits, do they head hunt the best director's around or do they employ the receptionist and hope for the best?

If they only bid £2M for him, they had no intention of signing him. They'll be bidding £10M for Messi next.

Sky Sports " understands " that Huddersfield have rejected a bid of £2 million. Until Huddersfield issue a statement to that effect then the story cannot be authenticated. Sky Sports have no greater knowledge than newspapers, both local and national.

Why Huddersfield accept a bid from other clubs, if a player is not for sale, which is not ture, it create hype in the market by prem clubs with a waiting game, Jordan Rhodes is missing a chance to play with murphy and earn a lead role with blackburn and get noticed in the world. Blackburn got the best chance to back into top fight and Rhodes will rule like Rooney by next year.

The War of the Roses was between the Houses of York and Lancaster, not the two Counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire (unless he's talking about cricket of course).

It is believed the people of Yorkshire actually fought with / supported the Lancastrians.

I don't know if that will make the lad from Sheffield feel much better though.

Did the two counties not arise from the two houses? Hence the names!

Maybe. My history is a bit scratchy but I fancy it was for geographical reasons, with the counties merely taking their name from Lancaster and York, the cities not the royal houses..

The War of the Roses didn't take place exclusively in Lancashire or Yorkshire as we now know them, they were fought for the right to the throne of England, all over England. The family names may have originated from the cities, but then again Matt Derbyshire wasn’t born in Derbyshire either.

Better stop now or I'll get cut down for going off topic. I've just got used to letting almost everything coming out of Ewood Park go over my head at the minute, remembering to take anything which may have an ounce of credibilty about it with a huge pinch of salt.
