Blackburn Rovers snap up Etuhu

BLACKBURN Rovers have completed the signing of Fulham midfielder Dickson Etuhu.

The 30-year-old Nigerian international, who started his career at Manchester City, has signed a four-year deal with Rovers.

As exclusively revealed by the Lancashire Telegraph yesterday, Etuhu follows Danny Murphy from Fulham to Ewood Park and is set to fly out to the Netherlands to join Rovers on their pre-season tour.

Rovers boss Steve Kean said: "Dickson is a player I have admired for a long time and he will be a fantastic addition to the squad.

"He is a powerhouse in midfield, who has played at the highest level with Fulham and we feel confident he will complement our other midfield options."

Solid. Not overly excited.

I don't think we have ever had an attacking central midfielder. Not since Dunn started on the pies.

It is going to be a defensively minded central midfield pair. Lets hope that means Rochina gets games in front of a solid pairing of Murphy and Etuhu.

A defensively minded mid field may well give some protection to the defence which was left unprotected far too much last season with the way kean set his team up. Has he actually learnt something from his mistakes of the last eighteen months?

if your a kean signing you will either play 2 or 3 games and have fitness or injury problems and then you will be consigned to a bit part.

Mind you it may go the other way that if you do get to play a part then they wont be able to honour your contract and they will sideline you without any explanation.

good luck.... I wonder how long before you realise your in a madhouse.

I agree to an extent. He is a Tugay type player - except not in the same class. As you say, shooting from range, dinking balls through and over the top.

It is fine having a midfield pair that don't get beyond the strikers if you are not playing a flat 4-4-2.

My worry is, same as last season we will be predictable.

If Kean wants to play as he says he wants to, then having two deep lying central midfielders with the rest small intelligent players that swap positions, then it could work very well indeed.

Unfortunately, this takes time, and I suspect we will again be smashing balls forward, aimed at no one in particular.

An ineresting signing, age 30 and a 4 year contract?? We seem tobe offering some pretty big deals and lengthy contracts. I can't see any other club out there offering 4 year deals to players of this age - seems to be the only way we can attract players. But it's a dangerous financial gamble with ageing players on big wages IMO.

No problem with the 4 year deal,as they don't really have any transfer fee to recoup.

Just to update from earlier, I bumped into Emile Heskey last weekend and he looks as fit as the proverbial butcher's mutt. Since he's scored so many goals against the Rovers I asked him why didn't he sign for us. He said he would if anybody wanted to ask him. He's currently a free agent with tons of experience and would be sheer class in the Championship. If anyone knows how to hold the ball up, it's Emile. He's also used to playing for 'smaller' teams like Wigan and Birmingham City, so it's not as if he would come just for the dosh. If the Rovers fans got behind him (instead of complaining that he doesn't score enough apart from against us) he'd be a brilliant signing. He won every trophy going with Liverpool apart from the Premiership and all he needs is people who really believe in him. He's as strong as an ox and would give anyone around him the chance to hit 20 goals in one season.Imagine Jordan Rhodes (40 goals in 45 matches last season, astonishing at any level) learning next to him. Got to be a no-brainer. After those pie-in-the-sky punts on Jordan Slew and all the rest, Heskey is available, has put in the hard yards and is as solid a pro as they come. A pure battering ram. Buy! buy! buy!
