Blackburn Rovers striker Best out for six months

BLACKBURN Rovers striker Leon Best has been ruled out for at least six months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Sunday’s pre-season friendly against AEK Athens.

Best was stretchered off in the first half of the game and Rovers’ fears have now been confirmed.

The 25-year-old only recently joined the club from Newcastle for a fee of £3m.

As I commented on a story earlier - I'm not sure how good he is?

I think with Nuno Gomes, Rochina, Goodwillie, and Formica we have enough up front. Even Dunn could play as a number 10, and the new signing Nunes could play off the striker. Gomes in the pivot position with the other lads running off him and we should be alright. Although saying that, Santa Cruz is always welcome back, even if it is only to play one good game in five. Maybe Santa Cruz could swap with Nuno Gomes everey other game as neither can last a whole season. Simon Cox looks like he works hard but doesn't have as much class as Goodwillie so I'm not sure why we are going for him.

He's not coming here according to Shebby.Just listened on Radio Lancs.

jogalot says...
7:09pm Mon 30 Jul 12

I just heard last part of Shebby on Radio Lancs, "answering" questions from fans. He is an excellent talker, great at being positive and Venkys and Kean will be very happy that he is a spokesman for them. However, his priorities are perfectly clear, he is there to protect the management and he will not answer fan's difficult questions.
.
By avoiding giving straight answers to straight questions he is alienating thousands of fans. The club is more than the management and owners, it is also the players and fans, in fact it is much more about the players and fans than anything else. Shebby showed tonight that players and fans are very secondary in his thoughts. He's been paid to do a job and he thinks he is doing that job well with his expert politician type words. But he has blown it for me and all former season ticket holders who would renew if SK was sacked.
.
Oh, for the honesty of John Williams, straight and direct, no billshut. But Shabby's role is to protect the owners not to protect and do what is best for BRFC, no matter what he says.

carlmc1 says...
7:21pm Mon 30 Jul 12

I just listened to Shebby on Radio Lacns and I have to say I was not impressed. The reports I have heard so far, suggest he is open and straight talking. I thought he was evasive and at times talked utter nonsense. The programme will be available on the BBC website for anyone who wants to make there own mind up on this.

Two of the things that made me cringe were how he said when Nzonzi comes back from Spain, we will use him if he is up to our level. The other one was I ask myself, do we need a striker that can score goals. I would have thought the answer to that one was obvious, so I have no idea, why he would need to ask himself that question.

From the way he was talking, it would appear that he identifies transfer targets and puts the offers in not Kean.

One final thing he mentioned was that he never mentions finances with the owners, which I find difficult to believe!

Players are in danger of injury all the time, but I thought I had read Leon was picking up maybe more than his fair share.
If that is true either the player is just unlucky, or there are more fundamental issues i.e the player is injury prone.
This is not to say I completely think the latter, but lets see.
We have picked up some of these in the past and will again in the future I have no doubt. But when this happens you have to question the medical staff who give them the once over.
