We can build bridges with fans, says Blackburn Rovers stalwart Dunn We can build bridges with fans, says Blackburn Rovers stalwart Dunn

DAVID Dunn believes Blackburn Rovers can build a few bridges with a disgruntled Ewood Park faithful – but knows the only way to do it is by taking the Championship by storm.

The long-serving Rovers midfielder admits a few more signings are needed this summer after their Premier League relegation but is hopeful their actions on the field will get the fans “right behind us”.

Rovers have opened their pre-season campaign with three defeats from their first four matches but Dunn knows it is all about being ready for the big kick-off at Ipswich and he is confident they will be.

Sections of Rovers supporters have continued to vent their anger at under fire boss Steve Kean this summer, after last season’s protests fell on deaf ears, and Dunn knows a battle is ahead to get the fans back.

He believes the addition of Leon Best, Danny Murphy and Nuno Gomes is a good start and believes a few more new arrivals and a quick league start will only aid their cause.

Dunn said: “It is important we get the fans back on board. We made a lot of changes last year that affected everyone. It is disappointing (the fans reaction) to see sometimes but we have to get on with it as professionals and sometimes we have to put up with that.

“I am sure, hopefully, if we get off to a good start, the fans can start coming back. I know it is disappointing for everyone involved in the club - no more so than ourselves. “Hopefully we can start building a few bridges and get them back on side and it is results in the league that will help to do that.

Come August 18, if we start winning, I am sure people will start slowly coming back.” Ahead of Sunday’s pre-season friendly against AEK Athens at Fleetwood, Dunn is adamant not too much should be read into their disappointing recent results.

He is confident Steve Kean’s men will be ready for their Ipswich opener and claims that is only when results start to matter. “We are only a couple of weeks in, so although it is disappointing to lose games, we can’t look too much into it,” he said.

“First and foremost it is about getting as much fitness work in as we can.

“With Leon and Danny coming in with the other lads, I personally think maybe a couple more are needed, so hopefully we can make a couple more signings.

“It gives everyone confidence when they make signings. It speaks for itself. Hopefully we can make a few more and get the fans right behind us and hopefully we can get out of the blocks flying.

“Everything is shaping up well and, in another four weeks, or less now, is when it matters. I spoke to Colin Hendry the other day and when we won the league, we lost every pre season friendly.

“Not that you want to get beat but it shows you people can look too much into them. As long as you get your fitness work and are ready for the start of the season then that is the main thing.”

Dunny get real - the only way you are going to rebuild bridges with the fans is for you and other players to grow some balls and openly say where the problem is - with the idiot manager Venky's are employing. Kean out would be the first step but there is a long way to go after that.

Our problem is the MANAGER
Our problem is the OPERATIONS / GENERAL MANAGER
Our problem is the CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Our problem is the OWNERS

The more you defend them Dunny, the more you are part of the problem.

You were given a new contract that on balance (games played / injuries / form / etc) you probably didnt deserve. I know for a fact you told people around you that you expected to leave the Club last year.....

Did YOUR new contract include a PRO VENKY'S / PRO KEAN agreement - that you have to spout positive PR for the owners in return for your deal ????. The trouble is DUNNY the more you say the more suspect you look..

CONCENTRATE ON YOUR FITNESS & FORM DUNNY
...... THAT WHAT YOU ARE PAID FOR AFTER ALL !!!!!!!

Rovers Supporters To Get Their Questions Answered!
Published on July 26, 2012 by Mark1875 in Events, General, News, Press Release, Statements
Following extensive meetings between the BRFC Action Group committee and the clubs recently appointed Global Advisor, Shebby Singh over recent weeks, we are delighted to announce that Shebby has accepted a personal invitation from the group to attend an open floor meeting which will be hosted by the BRFC Action Group.

The proposal was put forward by the groups committee to Shebby and the BRFC Action Group will set the full agenda for this meeting. The meeting means the supporters of Blackburn Rovers will finally be given the opportunity to ask their questions directly to the man who is overseeing everything at Blackburn Rovers at ground level.

Since gaining our FSF affiliation in May, we have grown rapidly as a group and have the full support of many of our community figureheads, the full chamber of the local council and our local MPs. The groups membership base continues to increase weekly and Shebby is eager to work with the group and build bridges with the supporters.

The BRFC Action Group would like to extend its invite to the whole supporter base of Blackburn Rovers to have their chance to air their concerns directly to Shebby and to listen to his plans for the club.

The meeting is scheduled for the morning of Saturday 11th August with a venue to be confirmed over the next 48 hours. Supporters who wish to attend will be urged to contact the committee when full details are released as a vast response is expected. The groups honorary patrons and a number of community figureheads will also be in attendance.

Further details of the Brfc Action Groups latest meeting with Shebby will be released once the minutes have been passed off by the committee.

BRFC Action Group secretary Mark Fish said:

“We as a group are delighted that a chain of communication has finally been opened with somebody whom has direct, daily contact with the owners of Blackburn Rovers. Shebby has been brought in to the club as a representative of the owners at ground level and the early signs of dialogue are positive. Whilst this is only one step, it is a giant step in the right direction in terms of getting Blackburn Rovers back on the right track. Shebby is keen to listen and be educated on the thoughts of the clubs supporters and as the clubs only FSF affiliated supporters group, the BRFC Action Group, are delighted that Shebby is willing to meet, upon our invitation with a wide range of the clubs supporters in an attempt to bring the club, its supporters and the towns community back together”

Shebby Singh, Blackburn Rovers Global Advisor said:

“The sincerity and honesty that we share, the BRFC Action Group and I, is the brickwork which is needed in building relationships”

When are these idiotic players and Venkys stooges going to realise, you can talk and talk and tell us how great everything is, but nobody is fooled. We all know donut Kean is still manager, he is useless as manager and as long as he is manager we are doomed for failure on the pitch.
-
What is even more annoying, is that supposedly the one first team player who should understand that the fans cannot be "wone around" while Kean is manager is Dunn, is still spilling his deluded bile onto the LET.
-
Sign anyone you want, Say anything you want. It doesnt change the facts.
We hate Kean.
Kean is useless as manager.
Kean should be sacked.
-
If you want on the pitch success.
SACK KEAN.

Dunny at least acknowledges that bridges have to be built to get some sense of normality back at the club.

To add some context to Dunnys comment - just read some excellent news just now from BRAG on the Vital Blackburn site:

So the Shebmeister is hosting a proper 'open to all' meeting to discuss all things Rovers in the next couple of weeks. Wow. That is one giant step forward from anything we have seen from this lot so far. Just hope that it is clear that the open aspect of the meeting does not allow for fans to use the opportunity to just abuse the club and its owners. A time for reasoned discussion and dialogue at last.

Stop spouting the party line and talking a good game. Relegation. Pre-season losses to Macclesfiely, Accy Stanley and now Rochdale. Stop talking, start doing.

And the irony of Dunny's statement is that under Allardyce in a number 10 type role he had his best season in a decade, scoring 12 goals. Since Kean has been here and pushed him back into central midfield he is unable to influence the game - mainly because he can't play that position anymore. Dunn could be a real threat in the Championship if played correctly - even if it was only for 60 mins.

this is just getting pathetic now. one of our players is acknowledging some of the recent failings and is trying to build some bridges with the disillusioned sections of the fanbase. Dan11, you talk about bile, but Dunn's words seem put in a very pleasant manner to me. i'm pretty sure that's not where the bile is at the moment.
we know you think kean is the problem. that's a fair interpretation based on what we have seen during his tenure.
however, a player looking to ensure there is unity throughout all sections of the club is a player we want to hear from surely. he is not a traitor or some kind of money-grabbing evil genius, but a blackburn rovers player and supporter who happens to want to move things forward in a constructive manner with the situation we have in front of us. that situation still has kean as manager, so we may as well deal with that. i'm sure people will voice their feelings with shebby singh during the BRAG meeting on the subect of kean, and that is an appropriate place for that. but having a go at a player like dunn on this website is simply pathetic.
i'm sure it will have little or no effect and will not hurt his feelings, but apart from having a differing view of things to you lot, what exactly has dunn done(!) to deserve the bile being hurlled at him in this thread?

Just like last season player after player were spouting about what they and the club needed and were going to do, and just like last year it seems they talk the talk but dont walk the walk. The time to come out spouting your Venky propaganda will be when you have gone several championship games unbeaten, then Dunny the fans might start to take notice of your comments ,untill then can the players concentrate on the forthcoming campaign and keep their mouths shut because they inevitably end up with their size 10 firmly in it!

No, the likes of Dunn, Pederson, Robinson etc did and yet they are the ones that escape all the criticism?

Very disapointed with Dunn AGAIN

He says he's a lifelong Rovers fan - well he's the only one (whether you renew ST or not etc) who dosent seem to think that the manager is an issue.

I know you are employed by the club but if you were a TRUE fan then you wouldnt just put up with what has gone on over the last 18 months without saying everying.

Money isnt everything David, unfortunately you've sold yourself out to Kean and Anderson for money - when they go "life-long fans" like you and Agnew must also go FOREVER.

You made your bed last season and as far as I am concerned you are no more than a local born Bradley Orr - a Kean/Venky appologist !

If you had any balls now you have your contract come out and speak for the fans, your status will then get back to what it used to be.

Oh, and of course, sometimes, as a professional, you just have to put up with the unfortunate reaction of fans who object to their club being destroyed as they are constantly lied to.
Bridges can be built, just start beating the likes of Barnsley and Brighton and we will all flood back, with everything forgiven. Now who needs to GET REAL!

Shebby will already know what we think of Kean but he wont realise the pure hatred some of our fans have for the guy I cannot see Kean remaining much longer as the owners realise their prize asset players cannot work with him.

Come on Dunny, stand up and be a man. The fans need somebody from inside the club to admit that the club is in turmoil. We all know it's in a right old state which makes the situation even more frustrating. It's like being continually told that night doesn't follow day, it's just utterly ridiculous. As our longest serving player and as somebody who claims to love the club, i can't help but feel that Dunny has a duty to at least share in the fan's grievances rather than skim over the real problems in a kean-esque fashion. I understand that Dunn doesn't want to 'rock the boat' but if he really does care about Blackburn Rovers as much as we all do and as much as he says he does, then he surely can't stand idly by whilst everything that Jack Walker left us gets effectively stolen and systematically destroyed.

i am sorry to say - but dunny you need to "GET REAL" if you want to regain a morsel of credibility with the club's supporters. probably better to keep your own counsel rather than speak to the press. in your case actions should speak louder than words and if you are capable of putting a shift in this season that lasts more than 45 minutes you may be forgiven.
.
kean and venkys are using you (and hendry) as a human shield and if you cant see that.... you were rewarded with your support of venkys and kean with a very nice new contract in the twilight of your career and in fairness as chief cheerleader you are doing a pretty good job. surely, you know that after rovers you will be playing for the likes of accy stan or rochdale (genuinely no disrespect for either team) in the lower reaches of the leagues....only trouble is with the current regime you could well be playing for them against rovers.
.
apart from your disgraceful "get real" comments i hated seeing you walking off the pitch laughing after the debacle at white hart lane last season.....i know cameras can catch people out but after such a woeful performance - the last thing a rovers player and even worse a rovers supporter should be should be seen to be doing is laughing after his team has been relegated.
.
in terms of building bridges - its gonna have to be a very impressive bridge to get me to walk over to your side.

Dunny, Dunny - why oh why are you insistent on antagonizing the already volatile situation ?

Usually I wander along to the pre-season games(although goodness knows why !!), but this season NOT.

From folk's who I have spoken with over these games thus far - PANTS.

2 years this insidious bungling oaf as overseen the absolute destruction of a recognized well run football club, and you expect die hard long time supporter to sit back and ask no questions or vent our irk at what is shocking, to say the least !

The job taken by this amateur, at best was, and is, a step to far in his quest for accolades in football management.

I see nothing or it rapidly declined over the course of last season that installs confidence in this odious imposter.

Are you really telling us that these pre-season games are nothing if only a fitness run out ?

Winning is a state of mind. Losing becomes a habit, and a bad one at that !

I have the utmost respect and regard for you as a footballer, and I've had the pleasure in watching you develop, but your persistent mentoring of this circus is pitiful, and lacks any integrity or regard for those who have become marginalized through no fault of their own, in my opinion ?

I will no longer attend under the guidance of he who you champion for I wish not to add to an already stifling atmosphere, and only wish for the team to play under circumstances that offers you from the fans their full support.

You know yourself just what it is like to be denied the chance to support or in your case play for the club you love through injury. I feel exactly the same way - frustrated, and want to help, but cannot.

The fans will return in droves should the now correct decision be made, and sack the most abject of managers our club as had the pleasure in appointing !

Winning will help in some returning so say's the article ? Not me pal as I truly and honestly believe he his a loser, and his record reveals that in sharp focus.

Good luck for 2012/2013 Mr Dunn. Now go and resurrect or beleaguered club.

Dunn: "Although it's disappointing to lose games, we can't look too much into it". That is a simply staggering statement from a professional sportsman! How much are you paid a week in return for such a careless attitude? Dilatory, that's what you are and that is why BRFC collapsed last season when confronted with the risk of relegation. Dilatory, that is what Kean has cultivated in the dressing room. Dilatory, that is why Rovers will sink like a stone next season. Dilatory, that is why the fans hate Kean and the Venkys and won't buy season tickets. Dilatory, in the dressing room, in the management suite, and in the Boardroom.
You insult the fans. People who have been turning up for years to support you. Your little PR release treats them like they are simple. First and foremost your attitude to the BRFC supporters is dilatory. Without the supporters you are nothing.

The only thing Dunn should be concerning himself with is getting his fitness improved because he looks absolutely shocking. No use criticising paying supporters if you can't even manage more than an hour of football a week. If the players aren't prepared to stand up and be counted then the best thing for them to do is shut up. The worst thing they can do is inflame the situation further by coming out with yet more pro-Venky and Kean trash and treating us all like idiots.

Dunn's infamous 'get real' statement of last season will linger in my memory for a long time to come. A supposed boyhood supporter treating the fans with such contempt. Well Dunny we've got real. We're in the Championship. Just where the supporters said we'd be if the clown stayed incharge. So we've been proven right and your statement was wrong. Where are we going to be when you're proven to be wrong yet again.

Its a simple deal. Venkys can yet redeem themselves. Sack Kean and instantly sell another 5,000 season tickets. Sadly I think there's more chance of Santa Claus buying Rovers than Shebby Singh sacking Kean.

I like David Dunn. Despite what he said last season - put in to context his 'get real' comment wasn't quite as bad as some are making out. I think he was trying to take pressure off Kean at a point in the season when it could have still been seen as a bad run early in the season. Since then he hasn't actually been saying anything pro-Kean or pro-Venky's, just as some people above have noted, spouted non-statements about getting our heads down, working hard, etc etc.

Lets wait and see what happens after 10 games into the season - arguing amongst ourselves is not getting us anywhere. If we are down near the bottom after 10 games Kean has nowhere to hide. Then you have my permission to unleash hell!

we know you think kean is the problem. that's a fair interpretation based on what we have seen during his tenure.
however, a player looking to ensure there is unity throughout all sections of the club is a player we want to hear from surely. he is not a traitor or some kind of money-grabbing evil genius, but a blackburn rovers player and supporter who happens to want to move things forward in a constructive manner with the situation we have in front of us. that situation still has kean as manager, so we may as well deal with that. i'm sure people will voice their feelings with shebby singh during the BRAG meeting on the subect of kean, and that is an appropriate place for that. but having a go at a player like dunn on this website is simply pathetic.
i'm sure it will have little or no effect and will not hurt his feelings, but apart from having a differing view of things to you lot, what exactly has dunn done(!) to deserve the bile being hurlled at him in this thread?

Not sure who's the most confused here, David Dunn or those defending him for acknowledging that bridges need to be built between the fans and Blackburn Rovers. Firstly, Dunn seems to think it's the team that fans are disillusioned with and believes a few more signings and a great run of results will bring them back. Sorry, he may have been a Rovers fan growing up but once you play for the club you support it's impossible to see things from the fans point of view as you have a conflict of interests.

Those posters on here saying he deserves credit for acknowledging that bridges need to be built should read the article again. As I've just pointed out, he's not addressing the real reason for the fans' discontent. Of course he can't slag Kean off in the media - he'd end up in the same predicament as him - but I get the impression he wouldn't anyway as he's not fully aware that Kean is the sole reason why fans are staying away.

I don't want to wake up every morning and read all doom-and-gloom about my club, but at the same time I'm sick of all the positive spin, especially when it's ill thought out. A small example of this in the above article. With regards to pre-season results, Dunn says, "we are only a couple of weeks in, so although it is disappointing to lose games, we can't look too much into it." Fair comment, except the League Two teams are also only a couple of weeks in too so it's not a valid excuse, so why say it?

At the end of the day the majority of the fans won't return until Kean is gone. That won't be happening before the season kicks off though - which is hard enough to stomach as it is - so please stop 'printing' these ridiculous interviews with players who's 'well meaning' words do more to divide or unsettle the fans than they do to reassure them.

Didn't realise we needed your permission to unleash hell. We don't need to wait to see what happens for 10 games - the fans know how it will pan out. Suggest you stop telling others what they should or shouldn't do. If you want to believe things are going to be any better then that is your choice but nobod tells me what I should do.
Ha, chill out. I wasn't actually being serious. Do what you want. The anger on here really is ridiculous. It was a quote from Gladiator - it should have read on my signal unleash hell. Apologies.

And thanks for proving a point by picking an argument.

He has been given yet another chance to prove himself. No matter how much we moan he is not going anywhere.

Hopefully we are top after 10 games and playing attractive football. If not and we are near the bottom, Kean has nowhere to hide and gets the boot.

It is some time since I have posted on here partly due to the complete horror I feel at what is happening to our club but, I am driven by the utter rubbish coming out of Dunn's mouth. I fully support the words of Lancs Pensioner and Hasslem Hasslem........it's too late for words Dunn and words are all you are capable of .

I have no respect whatsoever ever and hate the thought of seeing you, the smiler at Tottenham, in a Rovers shirt ever again. You could have had the hero worship you crave had you grown a pair and represented the fans of this club in our campaign against Kean and Venkys but no, as ever throughout your career you took the easy option .......you've no guts , no fitness and no chance of ever being accepted by genuine fans at this club again.......unless you'd like to build some bridges and speak out and act against the current regime.... any answers Dunny?

Dunny says of the pre-season friendly losses: “We are only a couple of weeks in, so although it is disappointing to lose games, we can’t look too much into it.” All well and good, but the teams we played (all lower league opposition) are also "only a couple of weeks in." So we were playing them on an even playing field fitness wise. And we lost. So, yes, I am reading quite a bit into it actually. We were not fit enough last season and we were tactically poor, so it looks like we are picking up where we left off. We may have lost all our pre-season games prior to the Premiership winning season but I am betting it was against tougher opposition.

I think David Dunns career is one that almost every Rovers fan dreams about. He is the local lad who supported the club as a lad and whose family support the club who made it and played for his team. Not only that he played at the highest level with them and also won the title and was on the threshold of international honours.

He is no fool he knows only to well that Kaen is not up to the job. He can hardly be quoted in the local paper saying that though can he? Does anyone know of any player at any club, at any time publicly saying that their manager is useles?.

No way in this world will we take the championship by storm. We will be very very lucky to be in the top half. Hopefully after the first few games, when we are struggling, not only in terms of points and league position, but also with performances, Kean will get the bullet. Bridges may then start to be buiilt with some fans. Sadly I do believe it will take a lot more than that to get all fans back on side.

It will be a very desperate situation, if as I expect we do struggle and Kean is retained. I really fear then that the demise will be complete.

I urge whoever is able, be it the owners, or Shebby to make absloutely sure that Kean is gone before much further damage is done. Then and only then will we believe that the club/owners respect the fans.

Listen, I hate Kean and Venkys as much as anyone but the comments on here about Dunn are stupid. How many of you out there would openly make comments against your employer, and that's what Kean is. He's a senior player and has to support the manager publicly despite what he might really feel. Aim your anger at the right people not a player who has played his heart out for this club for most of his career. Actually, he would not have gone to Birmingham had he not been forced out by Souness.

There is no way back with Kean in charge. Apart from his many failings and his terrible attitude to the fans he is a disaster as a manager. How can we possibly have any faith in a failure like Kean? It is impossible, even if the team wins the odd game or two his poor man management will mean that he will spoil it all with his strange team selections and the ease with which he can turn players against him. Venky's have shown their utter contempt for the fans expecting us to put up with Uncle Fester for another season after the mess he made last year. Venky's are still more inerested in selling players who are worth a good fee and signing free players, so what exactly has changed?
They are still out to cream off as much money as they can. League 1 here we come.

Lay off Dunny.
Local lad blue n white through and through and has played out his dream if playing for his local team.
Tell me anybody on here who would not say positive things about the club if you were in his position.
The things he has said are not what we want to hear but the positive things that need to be said from within the club.
He's as much a rovers supporter than anybody on here and will probably hate what is happening.
What does he do, speak out and lose his place at the club?

I hate venkys n keane more than venkys and won't go back on ewood until keane has gone but don't point all your childish anger at Dunn for being positive.
I can't wait to get back on ewood and sing out "David Dunn is blue n white" but fear he might have played his last game before that happens!!

And to the point about his best position, it is as a no.10 with fresh legs around him as he is the best natural finisher we have at the club. He will score goals given a chance.

Arte et labore[/p][/quote]Thanks for that Yoda Crap talking are you young Jedi Wild Rover

I am totally bewildered and absolutely disgusted by Dunns comments.

He just doesn't get it.

A few victories and additional signings should do it.

Dunn you clearly do not understand the enormous "moral fortitude" our wonderful fans possess. Obviously far higher than yours is or will ever be in your closeted football lifestyle.

You are totally belittling thousands of wonderful loyal Blackburn fans who will literally not return to Ewood until the club has done the one thing we all know it needs to do.

As for any player being the front man for the club now I honestly believe there is not one I can name with the qualities we have become accustomed to. No one the club has signed recently under Kean will ever fulfil the role and all other wonderfully loyal players towards the fans have left.

“The sincerity and honesty that we share, the BRFC Action Group and I, is the brickwork which is needed in building relationships”
put the questions in writing and forward to rovers now, then they have no excuse to worm out of them which they will.
