REQUEST Martin Olsson
BLACKBURN Rovers will seek clear the air talks with Martin Olsson next week – but are adamant they won’t let him leave unless they receive an offer ‘they can’t refuse’.
The Swedish international handed in a transfer request a fortnight ago but club sources insist he has since told boss Steve Kean he is happy to remain at Ewood Park.
Olsson’s representatives remain adamant the player is determined to quit Ewood Park this summer to land a return to the Premier League, and Rovers’ hierarchy will look to quiz Olsson again on his intentions when he returns to pre-season training in a few days time.
If Olsson does reiterate his desire to quit East Lancashire, Rovers are determined to only sell him for the ‘right price’, with valuations of between £5million to £8million put on his head.
Rovers though are currently planning for the new campaign with Olsson in their squad but want to clarify the player’s own wishes as soon as possible next week.
Rovers have only received one offer for the 24-year-old since last season’s Premier League relegation, but the £1.5m bid from an unnamed club was dismissed out of hand by owners Venky’s.
The majority of Rovers fans still fear a mass exodus this summer after the club dropped out of the Premier League last season, with top scorer Yakubu so far the only departure.
Out of contract Junior Hoilett is expected to sign elsewhere imminently, with QPR leading the chase, while Steven Nzonzi has been left out of Rovers’ Austrian training camp after he informed the club he wanted out.
The future of Gael Givet remains uncertain with sources close to the Frenchman adamant talks are still to be had to discuss the current terms of his contract. Rovers remain hopeful the player will remain at Ewood Park.
The club’s efforts to land midfielder Adrien Silva from Sporting Lisbon remain ongoing despite the Portuguese club saying yesterday they were confident the player would stay.
Meanwhile, Rovers’ operations director Paul Agnew has said the club’s new signings have settled into life at Rovers during the Austrian training camp.
Leon Best, Danny Murphy, Nuno Gomes and Fabio Nunes have all been involved, with Agnew insisting boss Steve Kean has been delighted with the week’s efforts.
Agnew said: “It has been intense, with three training sessions a day in very, very hot conditions. Speaking to Steve though, he says it has been very valuable.
“The new signings have settled straight away, which is obviously important for the coming season.”
