Best signs for Blackburn Rovers

LEON Best has become Blackburn Rovers' second summer signing.

The 25-year-old striker has completed his transfer to Ewood Park from Newcastle, for in the region of £3million, this afternoon.

Best joins former Fulham skipper Danny Murphy as Rovers' new boys this summer.

The former Coventry City man has signed a four year deal.

Didn't expect it to cost anywhere near £3million but a decent signing for the Championship. Shame the manager hasn't been sacked, then we may have a chance of promotion.

Well chuffed about Best, I know he's not a world beater, but had some promise in the Prem last season and should be more than ideal replacement for the Yak in the Championship!!

Another piece of good news and much as I detest Kean he clearly has something to persuade these guys to come down to the Championship. I don't believe its just a question of money; they must believe there is potential at Rovers. All that said, if early results don't happen he will be on his way

not often you see a championship team spending 3 mill on a player, i will say again venky's have woke up to realise we need to be in the premiership, kean's head is well and truely on the line, after ten games if were not in the top 2 he will be gone.Venky's are expecting promotion after spending cash on transfer's and wages time will tell. Please don't comment unless constuctive or factual

Well thats two more signings than I anticpated - I do hop we can keep Givet & possibly Robinson and bring on the fringe players from last season - they may well settle easier in the Championship.

the big question can Kean manage successfully?

I want Rovers soaring not plummeting next season

Despite 2 good signings and maybe more to follow, I will never be able to support Rovers whilst Kean is still in charge. I will never forgive him for his part in what has happened over the last year and a half. Especially now he is surrounding himself with more a**e kissers, to add to those like Orr and Dunn who won't rightly criticize or confront him like all those who have done so recently, and been forced to leave.

It seems as though Money is being spent on attempt to get back to the premier league at the first time of asking.

I personally am still concerned about what has gone on and what the BRAG information passed on to the authorities was. The sooner the information is out the better, as the supporters are enitled to know exactly what the wrong doings are. I know plenty are boycotting next year, but that doesn't mean we love the club any less.

Maybe this could be a repeat of the 91/92 season when Mackay splashed the cash, failed then got sacked after 6 games and Dalglish could be back by the begining of October.

I'm afraid it's going to take a lot more than signing Danny Murphy and Leon Best to persuade me to believe that Venky's have changed their policy.

It appears to me that rather than being in the last chance saloon or 'on trial' as some people believe Kean to be, that he is actually more secure now than he was last season. These are clearly his signings, unlike Formica/Rochina/Vuck
evic. There no longer appears to be any dissent against him at Ewood and they have appointed his two chums to the board to protect him further.

To me if there was even the slightest doubt as to Kean's position none of that would have been allowed to happen.

If the season started tomorrow our squad would be the best in the Championship. Unfortunately we are without an adequate manager, which is the most important person at the club. A competent manager is key. Look at Norwich and Swansea who managed promotion with average squads. Its a real shame that a decent manager does not have the opportunity Kean has. If somebody like Bruce, Warnock, Grayson or Mowbray had such money at their disposal I think we'd win the league. Recent appointments of Bruce at Hull, Clark at Birmingham and possibly Zola at Watford mean that's another 3 clubs to finish above us next season. Poorer squads but better manager. I also expect the departures of Olsson, Formica, Hoillett, Robinson, Nzonzi and Rochina minimum over the coming weeks, leaving us with a weaker squad.

Excellent signing, no question. £3,000,000 is splashing the cash and no mistake; that and his wages won't be cheap of course. But he is quality. Amazing for us in fact considering which league we are now in.

How much is Steve Kean's severance package though do you think? What therefore would that money be better spent on, for instance to get us more season tickets or the fans more excited for the coming season:

1) Any amount of decent signings like this?

or

2) Getting rid of Kean?

I know what the answer is. The fans simply can't get past the fact that he is still in charge and it's bizarre the owners can't realise that.

As I've just said on another article; football managers are second only to kamikaze pilots in having the shortest career. Everyone knows that. If the team is doing badly, you don't sack the striker, you sack the manager. But not with Steve Kean, a man with little to no experience and has done worse than any other manager that I've certainly lived under.

It just begs the continued question; why are the Venkys pulling out all the stops now, when it's only in a flailing attempt to save Kean?

Sack the goon, then we can get on with the season.

Ahh, the man himself under yet another username. All these new users, all saying the strangely same positive thing but all only sticking around for a few days at a time, before miraculously re-morphing into someone new.

Can he / you manage successfully you ask? If you are a genuine fan who's just woken from a coma, then apologies, we'd had that question answered categorically over the last 18 months. No, is the answer. He couldn't manage the few short steps to his own front door after he'd just driven home. But you do the maths on that one Steve.

We all want Rovers soaring not plummeting next season, it's just we all can't get past the fact that the manager is still in charge. It's just really really weird in the world of football. No one can disagree with that.

Another player from Kean's past. They will have worked together at Coventry. He's building an old pals group hoping they will think him wonderful. Well I won't!
Do not be taken in by the money being spent - it's chicken feed (sorry!) in comparison too what they have got in and will get in before the start of the season from all the outgoing players sold and the Pem. League money. If they had sacked Kean in December after the Bolton game none of this would have happened and we would still be in the Premiership. With Kean still in charge going down to League 1 is still more likely than promotion. He is still as bad as he always was and the talent pool will be worse.

Yes we continue to see how the players can do without a manager, why employ one at all? In some ways Yakubus goals actually covered over just how bad the manager and the tactics were.

If Rovers play with Spains 6 "Midfielders" next season I'll be thrilled, no doubt with Steve Kean he will be labeling Leon Best the next Fernando Torres.

How I wish I could feel part of the pre season buildup. This period of the year used to bring with it the anticipation of things to come. Waiting with bated breath for the next big signing. But at the moment any anticipation is tinged with sadness at the thought that I will be unable to see the Rovers next season whoever they sign. There is no way I can justify going down to Ewood whilst SK is there. I must make a stand, as should all others until he is gone. But I welcome the new players and hope they bring success to the team but unfortunately that success may mean SKs future at the club will go on for longer.

But I welcome the new players and hope they bring success to the team but unfortunately that success may mean SKs future at the club will go on for longer. A Darener

At 25 he could be a good signing and will score in this League , as for Murphy, he's been a good, solid performer throughout his career and even at 35 won't allow lacklustre performances from his team mates. But too many bridges burnt by Kean and hope he goes sooner rather than later, but even with him in charge I am still proud to wear my Rovers shirt. COYB's

Hi Givet,
I agree with your comments on buying a 3M player, my worry is this peanuts after the summer sale going outwards, if no one leaves (and I can't see that) they have a half decent squad, just a pity Kean is still in charge, see you at the away games mate.

Bruce was a fool with money at all his previous clubs, spent loads, got nowhere, blamed others and got sacked.

I welcome the signing but when the season starts and the incoming and outgoings at the club are analysed I am quite certain the squad will be significantly smaller and Venky's will have made a good profit from the selling. Unfortunately their misplaced cultutral pride will be their undoing as they are sticking with Kean come what may to prove a point to the fans. The team will be mid table at best and their best chance of an immediate return to the premier league will have been squandered before the new season even starts.

Hi JC,

I have attended the previous meetings but was unable to make the one at Longshaw WMC due to other commitments. From what I can gather though the facts were not spoken about at the meeting.

I am sure you are right about the biggest corruption story this country has ever seen, but why nothing yet from the authorities?

I for one can't wait for all this to be exposed, as I feel sure that an agent, manager and the owners will be brought to task. My worry is, it will damage the club too and may mean points being deducted or even relegation, as it seems to be serious stuff.

Given that it was the fans that brought this to the attention of the authorities, this would be unfair in my opinion, as the club is the fans deep down.

I think this may be the Squashed Fox TV company, who are doing a documentary on the club.

I firmly believe if there is corruption of the highest order, the authorties need to come out now and tell us what they have and more importantly what they are going to do about it.

I am sure BRAG do have some excellent evidence of wrong doing as 400 pages were presented. I just worry that this is still not out in the open. We kick off the new season in just over 6 weeks and the fans deserve to know.

Yes, you are right, it wasnt spoken of directly during the meeting but in the questions section afterwards - I thought this was strange at the time but afterwards I thought that this was done as the meeting was minuated so it would have been shown on the website for all to see, by dealing with it in the q&a section it avoids being uploaded.
.
I don't think they want it out in the open yet as they are still investigating many many leads but what they can prove (which is staggering), they are keeping it fairly quiet as they are showing some deference/respect to the FA who need time to study it (they said the FA already knew some of the info and were already investigating it). In the meeting with the FA both the complainance officers for the fit and proper tests and the agents complaiance officers were there.
.
As for it being exposed - it will be, but not for a long time. The FA are studying the file from the fans and cross referencing it with the infomation they already have. Also, they have many other leads to follow as it seems that only the tip of the iceberrg has been touched so far. Also, no doubt the FA will have to bring in the police at some stage (if they already havent done so?) - so basically I think it will not be on the front pages for a while yet.
.
As for the club being punished when it all comes out - I suspect we will have to be - along with the individual criminals concerned, however, like you, I think the only hope we have is that most of this has been exposed by Rovers fans. But that is a long way down the line - whatever the resulting punishment (if any) coruption/crimes/rul
e breaking at any football club cannot be tolorated by anyone and has to be rooted out.

Hi JC,

Cheers for the reply. It is very worrying, here is hoping that common sense will pervail with regards to the future of the club. The ideal scenario would be the criminal element are jailed and the club is handed over to the fans without too much damage done to the future of the club. If the owners have done something illegal then they should have the club taken from them. How this would be done and how the future of the club can be made secure, if this does happen, is anyones guess.

I don't think the authorities have taken no action to be fair. If they have 400 pages of evidence supplied by BRAG and other lines of investigation then this will take time.

I am no legal expert, but unless clear evidence of wrong doing is available, announcing what they have and what they are going to do about it, is foolish.

I would hope that some sort of announcement will be made by the football authorites before the season starts, just to be fair to the fans, but who knows!

Firstly I said that it was discused in the Q&A section.
.
The FA already HAD some of this infomation and ARE already investigating Rovers.
.
I also said that this won't break for along time as this is a COMPLEX investigation which many many leads are still to be followed which will be a time consuming process.
.
Do you really think that they would get to see the PL chief, ALL the bigwigs at the FA AND the head honcho for sport in the UK with a file full of "unsubstantiated conspiricy theories" ?? - do you really beleive you can meet these people without having something worth showing them ??
.
Infact they got the FA meeting after Scudamore looked through the file. They said he was so "BLOWN AWAY" with what he read that he organised the fans meeting with the FA there and then, whilst they were still there.
.
You have always defended Venkys from day 1 - everyone on this site knows this from your previous posts and no doubt you'll even defend them after the story breaks. No doubt you'll even blame members of the action group if we end up being punished as a club, rather the CRIMINALS which are currently within our midst.

Thanks JC, I couldn't make the meeting (I was babysitting ffs! lol)

Nice to have a bit more than was on the minuted website.

Most fans have this feeling of being 'used and abused', and as a result of that, the vociferous backlash, misunderstood from the outside, at times, but strengthening all the time.

More and more football followers of various clubs have expressed to me their dismay at events at Ewood. I have yet to meet one who would employ Kean as their manager (am I surprised?)

JC - I come on here mainly to get snippets of information on what happens at our club. Most of the posters on here cannot give me that that. You do. Other sources also.

You get a hard time here occasionally but not from me. Keep giving us what you know. Information is power. We need to know.

p.s.

I am trying really hard not to laugh buy you really need to get a grip, are there any Glasgow gangsters in this fairy story?
No facts came out because there are non,400 pages of bull does not a case make

Hi J C,

Thanks for your informative and honest posts this evening. I don't understand what so called supporters, posting on here have to suggest things are being said just for the sake of it.

You are spot on the FA etc would not have entertained the action group, if all they had was a file full of conspiracy theories.

I am quite confident what has been presented will be used to bring the people who have caused harm to our club, to task.

The lads who have worked hard to bring all this to the attention of the people who matter, are to be applauded.

You need help
You keep saying "there is no evidance" but you never explain how everyone who sees the action groups file suddenly moves heaven and earth to help them - Scudamore see's it and arranges a meeting with the bigwigs/rulemakers at the FA and all the local MPs in east lancs get access to it and they then arrange a meeting with the sports minister - why do you think Scudamore, Jack Straw, G Jones and Jake Berry are pulling out all the stops ?, because they have read a file full of inuendo and conspiricy theories ? - no because they have read a file, filled with DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE and AFADAVIDITS
.
However, one last thing I will say to give you a small reminder of how wrong things actually are below the surface at Ewood.
.
Cast your mind back to the leaked BRFC memo from JA to Martin Goodman TELLING HIM to make a payment to an unknown man in south america involved in the MF deal. (this was given by one of the ex-Rovers directors to sportinginteligence who published it about 6 months ago).
.
This memo shows an agent, suposedly with no ties to the club ORDERING a club director to do something ?

- how is that possible ?

- I'm sure we all appreciate JA "unpaid help" during the transfer window of Jan 2011, but how can he ORDER a club director to do anything ?? (If he was "requesting" MG make a payment then maybe I and 100,000 read it wrong or maybe he simply meant it as a request and wrote it down as incorrectly as an order )- I don't know ??

(funny how transparent/brillian
tly run clubs never have these wierd queries and anomolies ever crop up).
.
Why do I need help - I have gone to listen to what the action group have said, I have also spoken to someone else (not an action group member), someone I have known and trusted for 40 years who has had full access to the action group file and he also said it was "mindblowing stuff" - you have done nothing but call anyone who thinks there maybe problems at Rovers "conspiricy theorists" - how have you come to your decision, have you talked to Action group members, listened to what they say before making up your mind or have you never left your settee ?

I suspect the latter.

You need help[/p][/quote]You keep saying "there is no evidance" but you never explain how everyone who sees the action groups file suddenly moves heaven and earth to help them - Scudamore see's it and arranges a meeting with the bigwigs/rulemakers at the FA and all the local MPs in east lancs get access to it and they then arrange a meeting with the sports minister - why do you think Scudamore, Jack Straw, G Jones and Jake Berry are pulling out all the stops ?, because they have read a file full of inuendo and conspiricy theories ? - no because they have read a file, filled with DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE and AFADAVIDITS . (funny how transparent/brillian tly run clubs never have these wierd queries and anomolies ever crop up). J.C - Rishton

Lets not get a blood rush to the head over 2 signings and the usual promises.Remember Kean signings before, when he didn't play the players for months and his strange team selections picking youth over experience.
For instance can Murphy run a full 90 minutes, or is he another Dunn/Pederson and how good will Best perform with the service we've come to expect under Kean.
Oh and splashing the cash is not what we've seen at Ewood, theres been far more coming in to Venkys than as been being spent on the team or in fact on anything else.
HOLD YOUR NERVE or Venkys/singh/kean/An
derson/Shaw/Agnew etc will be there forever.

well said Plymouth Rover....Best and Murphy would have been good signings even if we were still in the prem....to get them both to come to the Rovers in the championship is a massive boost for the club.

Firstly I said that it was discused in the Q&A section.

The FA already HAD some of this infomation and ARE already investigating Rovers.

I also said that this won't break for along time as this is a COMPLEX investigation which many many leads are still to be followed which will be a time consuming process.

Do you really think that they would get to see the PL chief, ALL the bigwigs at the FA AND the head honcho for sport in the UK with a file full of "unsubstantiate

d conspiricy theories" ?? - do you really beleive you can meet these people without having something worth showing them ??

Infact they got the FA meeting after Scudamore looked through the file. They said he was so "BLOWN AWAY" with what he read that he organised the fans meeting with the FA there and then, whilst they were still there.

Funny you should say this but I am very closely related to GOD and the voices in my head say, everyone is entitled to an opinion even if you don't like it. My name is doubting Thomas and until I see the evidence laid out on a table before me, then I, the chosen one, will cast judgement. Paperwork can be falsified, only takes about £100 to get a dodgy MOT.
So we wait and let the authorities investigate, and when they have compiled their evidence, either way, they may present it before ME for a judgement, no need to thank me, please.

No doubt you'll even blame members of the action group if we end up being punished as a club, rather the CRIMINALS which are currently within our midst.
Actually from day one I said Venkys had no money but hey you are not good with facts are you..and I would be careful about calling them criminal if I were you, the fact is there is no evidence and no amount of capital letters will make it so.
You need help
well said JC and wild rover...you are so wrong!! i know this as i am closely related to one of the committee members..
So we wait and let the authorities investigate, and when they have compiled their evidence, either way, they may present it before ME for a judgement, no need to thank me, please.
so in effect wild rover you are saying that the action group are lying. you say you are closely related to God (from your tone you must actually think you are him) and as for the voices in your head, you really must seek treatment. Have you ever paid £100 for a dodgy MOT? maybe you must have. or how would you know, then you have the gaul to make comments that the information others have is untrue. You are the dodgy one. For the record chosen one, I too have an opinion and also know just how much time and effort has been put in by the committee.
Oh and I won't be thanking you.

Back on topic, seems like there's a lot of positive outpouring of support from Newcastle fans on hearing the news that Leon is joining Rovers.

Decent signings although how far over the hill Murphy is we will have to see. Also we need to see who goes in the other direction. Signing Best and Murphy plus some Portuguese kid won't be enough to replace Robinson, Givet, Dann, Olsson Yakubu, Formica and anyone else who goes.

To "all the out" brigade," the dark forces", "I"will not set foot in Ewood" etc, and "I will only attend away matches", Blueblood is quite right. The LT should keep open a new thread for you all to squable with each other.

I am still of the opinion that the protesting at home games last season had an adverse effect on the performance of the team. If this is to happen at away matches next season, then BRFC have only one solution. Make away games all ticket, and sell to season ticket holders only. That way the true supporter will be able to encourage the team forward, time will tell if this is the correct course of action.

Kean should have gone long ago, however, he is still here and there is nothing more the supporters can constructively do. Results in the opening games of the new season will seal the manager's fate, but I for one hope for a successful start to the season, not for the sake of Kean, but for BRFC. Points in the bag are far more attractive than sacking the manager and playing "catch up".

Things in the past have been in a real mess, however, you have to ask yourself why would Murphy and Best sign for the Rovers in view of past problems. Venkys at last have seem to come to their senses, all far to late, but it appears to have happened. Communication is coming from the club, selective I know, but when do football clubs and businesses open up to everything. In my business I am selective as to what is available to others, it is purely business common sense.

Just going into the air raid shelter I still have in my garden from WW2!!

Keep smiling, guys, only my opinion!!

Best and Murphy, are both good signings for a start at achieving our place back in the premiership, plus a few more like them. Good tradesmen professional footballers, are what are needed to get out of the championship. The underperforming players of last season need to to be sold, so as not to contaminate these new players with their negativity. If they didn't want to play for us last year, they will be even less enthusiastic about doing it this year. All I ask, is for players to be committed to the cause, and give us a realistic chance of getting out of the championship. The Kean situation will right itself in time, as I think he has only the first ten games, to show where we are heading, or he will have run out of excuses, and be told to go. I don't think Venky's have enough stupidity left in them, to face another fan's revolt, for another season.

well said indeed.

i haven't really seen enough of best to be convinced one way or another. looking at the options for replacing yak, i think we have to be realistic and think that this is probably about as good as we could hope for now we're a championship club. i have an inkling that best will be one of those players that can bag a load of goals in the championship, but always falls short in the prem. let's hope he gets chance to prove me wrong on that last point!
i know gomes is another very long shot, but having that kind of experienced backup is not too bad an idea. he's pretty good in the air, so may be a decent impact player who can sneak a goal or two when we need one.

A voice of sanity amongst the hysteria.

Well done!

The fans cannot expect to be listened to unless they also accept that their actions on match day also have a bearing on the outcome of the game and league table position.

The negativity at Ewood is worth a goal start to the opposition.

I would like to see all the Kean Out chants cease with the kick-off whistle and be kept on hold until the final whistle.

If anyone expects next season to be easy because we are in the Championship they need to think again. It is a horrible league and the players will need all the support they can get.

Let's not forget that the current rot at Ewood started before Kean became boss with the booing and barracking of our own players by ur very own morons on the terraces. A very small number of fans were involved but their actions were very damaging. Some contributors on here would have us believe that Rovers fans epitomise loyalty and fervour. Nothing is further than the truth. Even on a good day Ewood is like a morgue.

There is not one Rovers fan who does not want Kean Out but the fact is we will be starting this vital season with him in charge and I for one want to see us winning games and challenging for promotion - even if this does strengthen Kean's position.

Sport is about winning - not crying about people's characters or personalities.

Kean out
Venky's out
This is my view also.
It is their pride that is stopping them from changing the manager.
Whether this will prove to be folly on their part, we shall have to wait and see.
As for the money being spent, I like you don't buy into it. If you consider their 'dealings so far and then consider the 'likely' out dealings yet to transpire. Then add the incoming parachute payments. Then the promised £5m min 'investment' per window. To spend on the two latest guys is not so big a deal.
As said if they really wante to fire the support up they only need to do one thing. But they won't, so I am not buying into any of this.
It is normally commendable to give give everyone/anyone plenty of chance to come good, but in all honesty I believe SK has been given more than his fair chance.
For me SK is currently at best a potential Div 1 standard manager.
There is many a more illustrious manager attempted promotion from the Champs and failed, so omens are not particularly good.

As per Newcastle Chronicle, NUFC bought Best for £1.5m in January 2010, and now sold him on for £3m, with add-ons if we are promoted.
.
NUFC fans say he is a 100% trier and although not up to EPL requirements could do a good job for us.
.
They think it was great business for them.

Another piece of good news and much as I detest Kean he clearly has something to persuade these guys to come down to the Championship. I don't believe its just a question of money; they must believe there is potential at Rovers. All that said, if early results don't happen he will be on his way
HAHA OF COURSE HE WILL! THEYLL SACK HIM AS SOON AS RESULTS TURN POOR, IM SURE OF IT! THERES NO WAY THEY'LL HOLD ONTO HIM IF HE DRAGS THE CLUB DOWN, NO WAY!
