Murphy: I’m at Blackburn Rovers for success

DANNY Murphy admits he would only consider Premier League promotion as ‘success’ for Blackburn Rovers this season and is confident a squad is being built to make that happen.

The former England, Liverpool and Spurs midfielder believes the ambition of the club will be proved over the coming weeks and insists that was a huge factor in his decision to join.

The 35-year-old admitted he turned down an opportunity to remain at Fulham or move to other Premier League club in favour of embarking on his Rovers challenge.

He said: “I can’t talk about what the other lads think because I haven’t met them but my attitude is certainly only promotion is success.

“I think you will be surprised by the players they are talking about.

“There will be hopefully a couple of really good signings and that was another factor in me wanting to come.

“There is only so much I can do on my own. There are other areas, for example replacing Yakubu if he leaves. The ambition of the owners, Steve and Shebby will be proven by these signings.

“The fact they are not shipping out every good player at the club is another good sign. That would be the easy option, you have seen it before.

“The majority will stay. These are good experienced players, with some terrific youngsters. I am looking forward to it and really think it is going to be an exciting year. You need that bit of luck of course.”

Murphy was aware of the unrest at Ewood Park last season as the club dropped into the Championship amid protests against the owners and the manager.

But, after meetings with the regime at the East Lancashire outfit, he said his mind was quickly put at ease, He said: “It is very difficult for me to comment on what went on in the past because I wasn’t involved. All I can base what I am saying on is the assurances I have had from the owners, Shebby and Steve about how the club is going forward.

“My worries were put to bed quite quickly in that respect. The fact I have signed should say that and I know they are moving forward in all departments.”

I think you'll do a good job for us Danny but promotion can't be achieved with a team that can't defend. Will you be able to do anything about that?

Plus, there won't be much home advantage in a two-thirds empty stadium.

Interestingly enough, there's a single solution to these two problems.

Hero or Zero, Danny ?

Good luck and I'm sure that the vast majority will back you in aiding the recovery of our club ?

I hope you will do what is best for BRFC, and give the 'Odious One' a piece of your mind should it occur ?

Go get em Danny.

In december our brilliant leader was going to get his business done early in the window - so we were right for rest of season. what did we get martin olsen's twin brother who was out of contract at a relegated swedish side.
.
the clowns in charge will have to rack up a load of quality names on the credit side to even begin to make an impression on the number on the debit side of their own credibility account.

Time has already told! We had decent players last season, well capable of keeping us in the PL, but with Keans tactics they never stood a chance. It would appear you are blaming the players not Kean. That is unfair. And before you reply to say you are not blaming the players for our demise. Who are you blaming?

well if want to be like that i'll tell you,the tactics of kean are poor, but the player's are still to blame you say it's unfair to blame the players why?If you understand football and played the game at a half decent level you will now the players knew what they had to do just like the youngster's did when they won at old trafford. And for the record i blame Anderson for conning the venky's, kean's tactics are bad and should have gone 12 month's ago we all know this, people who don't know football say the players arn't to blame im sorry to say a bit daft

If we could win at Old Trafford and hold our own against other top clubs then we could easily have beaten all the lower reach clubs we were defeated by.

So Danny you've listened to their nonsense of how the club is going to go forward and get promoted at the first attempt and you actually believe it. Very sad. Kean is useless and you will find this out within the first 5 games of the new season.
To have any chance of promotion at the first attempt we need a new manager. Stuffing the backroom with yes men and people who would say the earth was flat if you paid them enough won't get us promoted.
Extending the season ticket offer is because they are now desperate to shift any! The fans have voted to boycott in large numbers until we have change.

Agree with you re the Murphy out comments. Thes are bizarre! Why are the fans not getting behind these players willing to be humiliated by Kean? They should be making clear to them that they have joined the biggest circus since Billy Smart's. Their reputation will be shot. It is a good job they are either coming to the club to boost their pension pot or they are foreigners that have no idea what has happened to our once famous club.

Welcome to the Rovers Danny!

Hope you quickly learn that it is better to let your feet do all the talking - on the pitch - rather than bigging-up Kean and co off it.

I think you will do a great job for us in midfield and give us something we lacked last season - vision, good passing and the ability to control play.

It would have been good to see you playing alongside Nzonzi but almost certainly looks like he will be off.

As for your comments about replacing the Yak, well just heard Best had agreed terms with the Rovers and will sign on Monday.

Well, for me, it'd be nice for someone from the club to properly apologise for what has happened these last 20 months, explain why we are in the position we are in, why key personnel were removed and also explain what qualities the current management set-up have that will secure a swift return to the EPL?
.
We've had nothing but silence from the owners and absolute tosh from statistically the worst manager in the history of BRFC.
.

I am new to this forum bit it strikes me that some of the posters need to get a grip!
I am a long standing supporter of Rovers through thick and thin.
I am no fan of Steve Kean or the Venky's and perhaps things would be better if Venky's sold up and Steve Kean got the heave ho. However until that happens we have what we have. What about a bit of good sensible debate rather than the constant conspiracy theories.
So a few questions?
Danny Murphy does not seem to suit most of you so what would constitute a good signing?
Older experienced players seem not to suit and young promising players are also no good!! Who do you want?

What about the communication? Not good over the last 18 months it is starting to improve. The problem is that for most posters anything anybody says is lies or part of the conspiracy! Would you prefer Danny Murphy to say he saw a big fat cheque and the chances are Rovers will be relegated and he does'nt care one way or another!! Do you prefer Steve Kean to say we will be an easy team to beat next season?

Derek Shaw has been appointed and of course he is a waste of space as well. What do you want? I know John Williams back! He did a lot of good for the Rovers without question but he did preside over the sale to the Venky's. So if not Derek Shaw a very experienced administrator who do you want?

Sensible debate welcomed.

Ps any suggestions were I can go for some less hysterical debate

If you think about it for the last couple of months we have all being complaining that there is nothing being said. Wether we agree with it or not we are now at least getting some information coming out of the club. You cannot base communication being only good communication when you agree with it !!!

On another point whilst Steve Kean was seriously at fault last season we also need to look at some of the players. Roberts, Salgado and Nelson keep being talked about. Roberts you all criticised him for not being able to score so he went. Nelson lets be honest he was knackered how many appearances do you think he will make this season, pobably best he went, Salgado struggled early on what would he have brought to the team at the end of the season? Not doubting their effort but probably not good enough. Nzonzi bit of a sulk really no doubting his talent, attitude dodgy (that of course will be Steve Keans fault ) what about a bit of professional pride. Who missed was it two penalties against Everton?

Do we have to go back to basics for you? The Manager is the conductor of the team, he dicatates the strategy, are you still with it? Nobody who is a fan wants to hate their passion, so it's the easiest thing to keep following and clapping, but nobody who celebrates the new Rovers can put any shred of argument for how they have improved anything, and just resort to predictions, form liars.

What then new set up won't do is tell you they don't care about the club, you get that from trying to match their words with their deeds.

Well Mr Murphy - did'nt expect anything but this type of comment from you - a big wage with no doubt big bonuses - yes a nice little retirement present for you and so close to home could'nt be better.
And Kean feeling a bit more confident to start spouting nonsense once again - as he said 'his boys upstairs' are supporting him for putting them into these lucrative positions!! What Manager other than the idiot Kean would address the Directors as his boys - they would not dare - so yet again a display of words from Kean that suggest he has a bigger involvement in the club other than just Manager!!!!!
OUT WITH KEAN AGNEW SINGH AND THE BLOODY VENKYS

well said norfolkrover, lets give the boys a bit of support, instead of slagging off everybody and everything blue and white, we all want kean gone, but it is what it is.

And now Murphy is Tugay! Oh please stop it my sides are splitting. Remember Tugay giving the Brazilians a hell of a game (twice) in the 2002 World Cup? Now Murphy remind me of his international career?

Anyone know what kind of contract Fickle Fan got from Kean and Venky's?
.
I went on holiday thinking it can't in all honesty get even funnier can it whilst I am away? - but it has. A new MD who failed at Preston and who starts by praising Kean and immediately alienating all the fans (Thickle Fan excepted!) - Will Derek Shaw surprise us and finally be the man brave enough to forget his pay packet and tell Venky's to sack the useless manager? - don't hold your breath.
.
Then we have a new operations Director who was the new General Manager when I went away - is that his 5th job title since the New Year?
.
Meanwhile the SEASON TICKET renewal is extended yet again - could it be they are not selling well?
.
Is there anyone at Ewood who can work out that the VERY SIMPLE reason 15,000 former ST's are holding back their support is because of the useless manager and they are not going to change their minds until he goes?
.
Funny - It only hurts when I laugh!

Kean luvvies? What are you on about? Every Blackburn Rovers fan wants Kean sacked or maybe even dead. This is about tribalism, the red rose and the blue and white shirt. This is a hypothetical question, If by the end of March we were chasing promotion and playing the dingles with Kean still in charge, would you still not turn up?

I am beginning to think that I should start going again just to spite these who are having a go at Murphy before he has kicked a ball. Welcome, Danny. From what I have seen, you know how to control the ball and pass to a player in the same shirt. I don't necessarily think that money is the only object, though it will be part of it. I'm sure it was for Tugay as well. Hope you have a great season.

What will you do WHEN Kean starts referring to those that turn up as "my supporters". Happy clap along with those that think this clown deserves yet another chance?

Pushing for promotion?!!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Is this before or after we sign Ronaldinho and Beckham? At least your use of the term "hypothetical" takes some of the risibility out of that notion.

The dingles are more likey to turn us over than Kean will be able to maintain a push for promotion beyond November.

NO!
Fair do's.
Alas I fear that even if Kean were dead, he would still not get the sack. He would come out, like el cid or weekend at bernies with a plank down his back and the puppet masters operating his every move, ere hang on a minute, has anyone checked his pulse?
LOL!
Haha, stood in an upright coffin like Harry Enfield's Mr Dead.

I despise Steve Kean. It was more tolerable when he appeared to have been gagged over the summer. The first time he opens his trap, he is spouting his delusional rubbish again. Other teams being frightened of us etc. The worse though is likening Murphy to the legend Tugay. What an insult to the brilliant turk. Worse still saying "we" had Tugay. There is no "we" Kean. You have made that perfectly clear whilst you have alienated the fans over the last 20 months. Finally Murphy saying “I think you will be surprised by the players they are talking about." We've had this before Danny. Load of tosh. I also remember Lucas Neill saying exactly that in his interview at West Ham when he signed. Well we all know what happened there. I cant wait to get back down Ewood. I hate the fact that this load of clueless nobodies have demolished our club to what you read on here. Fan arguing with fan. I hate the fact that I feel compelled not to go to make my view known. Somebody said around 5000 STs sold. I can believe it. I know from somebody at the club they were refunded on loads bought in the 1 st early bird offer.

Daniel, you need a big dose of reality lad. Take a look at the stats of Kean's win rate. He has been manager since December 2010. How many games has he won? Believe me, if it was about winning games, he would be long gone. He aint gonna be sacked if he loses another 5. Its not about his success is it? He got us relegated and guess what? He wasnt sacked.

I watched Kean, Murphy, Shaw last night on TV feeling totally adrift of everything they were saying. Like they were alien beings in my world.

I hate with a passion what Venky's and Kean have done to us. You have ripped the heart from our club.

Thanks to Murphy for choosing Blackburn over other clubs. Hope you have a good season. The Venkys and Shebby have realised what has happened to the club and are making the right moves. Hope we are turning a corner and going in right direction.

Oh hello another "first time" poster. There appear to be quite a few over the last week of so pleading with fans to give the new regime a chance.

Is this is the best tactic Shaggy, Agnew, Kean and Shaw can come up with? Basic stuff boys sorry but thanks for the laugh.

Hello barometer, last time someone ended their post mentioning sensible debating more than once it was someone called BB4claret who has since disappeared since you arrived.
I suspect you are one and the same. He was obsessed with mass debating too. Just as you are. Just coming on here trying to get a rise out of Rovers fans by posting rubbish.
Bye BB4claret, you will have to come back and be less obvious with your wind up wording and chain yanking.
Just stick to debating behind closed doors please, and also get back to the bumley forum where, as there is no-one to converse with, shows why you are so obsessed with your bigger and better neighbours. until your next new username,
bye.

Oh hello another "first time" poster. There appear to be quite a few over the last week of so pleading with fans to give the new regime a chance.

Is this is the best tactic Shaggy, Agnew, Kean and Shaw can come up with? Basic stuff boys sorry but thanks for the laugh.
He (Kean)had is chance last season and failed miserably all fronts.

However I believe new players should be given time, but also until they do something on the pitch they should keep their mouths shut!

Its pretty much par for the course for 'new blood' to come out and bolster the squad up.
But for him to sing the praises of Venkys, Kean, the new people arriving and the current squad is yet again very naively over the top.
There are many if's, but's and maybes in there as well.
I don't blame DM for grabbing his 2 yr deal, it's his final pay day before hanging his boot's up.
He has been a good player and he is certainly as good as anyone we currently have got and prob. better.
But it's the whole infrastructure that is under question in regards it's ability to perform as publicly stated and intended.
Since Venkys arrived all we have had is hollow spouting's, so the reluctance for the vast majority of the support to buy into this 'clean slate' regime is very understandable.
I for one will not be making my mind up about this 'new lot' until Oct/Nov. when words are finished with and actions are on display.

Of the course the majority of the boycotters would turn up, if that came to pass, as the mere fact of Kean getting it right at last would be something to be supported.
The achievements of the team/squad would be happily congratulated, but I suspect Kean not so readily (sour grapes maybe, but he has certainly not helped himself).
I think it would take a lot more than that though for this majority to finally forgive the previous 12 months i.e. if then he progressed to elevate us to say top 8 Prem.
This of course would only return us back to what we originally were (but slightly elevated). But would be an achievement all the same.
Can this/will this happen? We will find out soon.

Hi BBHOF, I agree some fans would return when seeing some success on the field, but people like me, just an ordinary fan have just had enough and it could take years for them to return, at the very Least in my case only when Kean has gone, life's to short and there are plenty of things to do out there I can find better to do and ENJOY and that's the word ENJOY, it's no fun going down there watching that rubbish we so last year, this along with all the lies we have been continuously been told, yeh it could be years before you see 12/15000 fans down there again(apart from dingle matches) good luck if you want to go down but it's not for me.

I think his formation and player selections may improve, but its a bit of a given that his mouth will always give him away.

Hes like that kid in school you couldnt stand because you could always hear his loud voice above everyone else's and he was always bragging about things he was going to do, but never did.

To analyse him psychologically, I'd say steve was a lonely child at school, a passion for football gave him a little credibility, but his constant need for attention spurned by being the middle child (thus largely ignored), turned people off him. The few friends he made, he constantly bragged to about his ambitions and turned them off him.

Growing up Steve was a bit more successful, largely due to his sly, coniving brain, which helped him step over people by back-biting and bringing them down by gaining trust and abusing it, sucking up to those in charge and generally winging it on the back of other people's ambitions and achievements whilst gaining their trust.

Conniving, slimy, pretentious are words often used to describe him, though friends have found him loyal, brutally honest and easy to talk to (something he will again have often used against them)

Its not surprising then that he finds himself in a position that clearly exceeds his ability and those that know the REAL Steve Kean are probably not surprised by his current high profile media status - or the conspiracies that suggest his nefarious dealings to get there.

There seem to be alot of club insiders on here lately.

Please get Kean sacked so I can attend Ewood next season with my boys.

Ewood will only have to open up one stand until he has gone and the longer this utter nonsense is allowed to continue the more fans will be lost forever.

The lies the lies you've taken in
They'll sign more payers
And build a brilliant squad
We'll be surprised
At all the players they're lining up
My mind's at rest
I've had assurances
But this WE know
That Kean's a useless manager
He's the worst we've had
In all our history
He tells us lies
And blames it on the Rovers fans
He saw no plane
And heard only one per cent.

They wouldn't let me print the next verse!

Is it true Kean has gone on record to tell all the other championship sides we are the best? we do not even know what our team is as there are a few still o leave us? i wonder why Kean thinks we wont lose many if he is in the market or a few new players? why would he wan to buy new players in Hoiletts position for one? If Hoilett syays and takes there contract he will waste his money.
We will have a big problem if he goes arount boasting we are the best as he doesn't seem to appreciate he is the worst.

It i the time f year we start getting withdrawal symptons and all I can look forward to is a boycott of my team because of one person called Mrs Desai who likes playing around with peoples lives and does not have an inkling of the damage she is reaking.

Thanks to Murphy for choosing Blackburn over other clubs. Hope you have a good season. The Venkys and Shebby have realised what has happened to the club and are making the right moves. Hope we are turning a corner and going in right direction.
A Venky employee I take it?

Good luck and getintoem. I have my ST as have all my mates that I go with so there will be at least 7 cheering you on. I guess Mr Negative would like you to believe that Ewood will be empty but I think not.
The real supporters will be there
Got my ST too - in fact I opted for 19 game option in Darwen End and on Wednesday my friend and I are going to upgrade to the full 23 match ST. Come on guys get behind the team. Rovers til I die!

- don't hold your breath.
.
Then we have a new operations Director who was the new General Manager when I went away - is that his 5th job title since the New Year?
.
Meanwhile the SEASON TICKET renewal is extended yet again - could it be they are not selling well?
.
Is there anyone at Ewood who can work out that the VERY SIMPLE reason 15,000 former ST's are holding back their support is because of the useless manager and they are not going to change their minds until he goes?
.
Funny - It only hurts when I laugh!
.
34th.......
Morst, we've had our differences in the past, but we sing from the same hymn sheet these days.
.
We're Blues not Kean luvvies.
.
20 months of hurt and individuals are still prepared to give the clowns a chance!
.
Steve Kean, the only man with Blackburn connections who will be given a standing ovation at the Turf for being a legend in his own lifetime. He'll be more popular than Jimmy McIlroy LOL!
.
Agreed Blueskies!

It is bad enough being deluged with Dingle comment on here but now we appear to be swamped by Agnew propaganda; these sycophantic comments are obviously coming straight out of Venky's mouthpieces.

Venky lovers and Kean supporters, the worst type of supporter. The brainwashed, unthinking supporter to easily taken in by the Venky propaganda machine with its buying players, appointing Shebby Sing, everything has changed bull sh*t nonsense. The supporter willing to buy a season ticket and provide the Indian's with a tacit vote of confidence, signalling that all is ok and that you're happy for Kean to continue to be in charge. Yet to anyone with a pair of working eyes and a functioning brain cell it is blatantly obvious that things are far from ok, they are the opposite of that.

Kean and Venky lovers out.

We had a squad capable of staying in the PL until some bald headed a*seface came along and screwed it all up. The same can be said to the Venkys. I will hate them both for life. You can't win this Rover over.
