Rovers in race for Portuguese duo

BLACKBURN Rovers are winning the race to sign a Portuguese midfield duo as they look to add to Danny Murphy’s summer arrival.
Combative central midfielder Adrien Silva, 23, of Sporting Lisbon, and Portugal under 20 international Fabio Nunes, 19, are understood to be close to sealing a switch to Ewood Park.
Rovers are also understood to be on track to sign Newcastle United’s Leon Best after further talks yesterday, with last season’s top scorer Yakubu understood to have agreed a £1million move to Chinese club Guangzhou R&F.
Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday were desperate to land Silva, who is free to leave Lisbon, but it is understood they are now resigned to losing out to Rovers.
Silva spent last season on loan at Maccabi Haifa and then Academica de Coimbra. The French-born midfielder is a former Portugal under 21 skipper and has featured for Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Silva, who trained at Chelsea as a 15-year-old for a spell, is an energetic box-to-box midfielder.
Nunes, 19, is a tricky left winger, who spent last season playing on loan for Parma’s development team after joining from Portuguese club Portimonese.
Rovers’ teenage centre back Ryan Edwards could join League Two side Rochdale on loan next week.
