Blackburn Rovers appoint Shaw as managing director

Blackburn Rovers have announced the appointment of former Preston North End chairman Derek Shaw as managing director.

Shaw will take up his new role with immediate effect, with Paul Agnew's position changing from general manager to operations director.

“I am delighted to be given this opportunity,” said Shaw, 54.

“My goal is to do all I can to help restore Blackburn Rovers as a football force and the passion of the owners to get the club back to the Premier League in the shortest possible time is crystal clear.

“I have been invited to come on board and work alongside Paul Agnew, for whom I have the utmost respect, and the Ewood staff to produce a structure that will assist in our drive to get everything on track for success.

“It is a challenge I relish and I am determined to put my experience to good use for the common good at Ewood Park.”

Venky's chairperson Anuradha Desai said: “We have every confidence in Derek and believe he can play a major role in bringing about a positive change for the club.

“We are keen to build up a good image for BRFC among the fans, media and general populace and we feel sure that Derek and Paul can work in close cooperation to achieve this.

"It is a new start, a new era and we are very excited.”

The new Williams and Finn? I Think not. It's to late now. You should have started that 18 months ago on dry land. Now your starting point is the sea bed. It's going to be long slow evolution to get back on shore.

What a statement from Mrs D - could she not at the same time have given us the reasons why the Manager was retained after a disasterous season. That remains the key to going forward together as a Club and surely Venkys must understand that now no matter how much they like Kean

Blackburn Rovers have announced the appointment of Derek Shaw (ex- Preston North End Chairman) as Managing Director; no Premier League experience. Ummm, he’s hardly John Williams.

Paul Agnew’s title changes from General Manager to Operations Director; bear in mind he’s been on holiday since his announcement as GM was made. He doesn’t actually get his sleeves rolled up until Monday but he’s already got a promotion! Not bad for a failed press officer.

These PNE connections hardly fill me with confidence.

So, now we have Shaw, Agnew, Silvester and Singh all reporting in to Kean; he’s going to be a busy boy!

Wow, those appointments are really going to boost the expected 8,000 attendance for the opening game against Hull City.

We now need an Orthopaedic Surgeon to cope with the broken limbs our elderly players and academy boys will sustain in the Championship.

May I add to my previous post?

Deek Shaw is the principal shareholder in Ribble Valley Shelving Ltd, based in Longridge. They are too small to submit full accounts but from information available at Companies House, it would suggest the business sustained a trading loss of circa £70K in the year ending Oct 2011.

That business owns 33.5% of "The Friends of Preston North End Ltd" for which it paid £62,925.

Shaw is on record as saying he is a life long PNE fan.

Are the Venky's mad or does this latest appoinment simply confirm their total naivety and unsuitability to own BRFC.

What an insult

Derek Shaw, as nice a bloke as he is, is one of the sole reasons for PNE being where they are today. He has backed managers in the past intone transfer market only to find that he has paid over the odds and got them in on high contract values which means shipping them out is such hard work and gives precious little ROI. That was the main reason for the PNE decline (along with the ever revolving door and pay offs made to exiting managers)

His managerial appointments have been very hit and miss, and inevitably on the cheap (bar possibly Craig Brown).

I hope he does a good job for you, but dont expect to hear much from him. He isn't great in terms of PR, and isn't the most media savvy.

Woah, now they're replacing staff they have dismissed from that structure. What's going on here? We had a Rolls Royce of an operation and now we're filling posts that'll leave us with a clapped out mini-metro version.
.
Heard Derek Shaw on Radio Lancs, never met the owners btw, talking about sorting tickets, H+S. H+S? They sacked a **** good H+S man in Newsham.
.
Minimum for me is Venkys to come out and apologise for the debacle they have overseen, and then sack Kean.

i had a couple of meetings with PNE including Mr.Shaw. My colleagues and me found them to be appallingly badly organised and haphazard in their proposals. have to say that surprised me because before those meetings i had a lays thought PNE was a reasonably well run club.

Whilst we would all like to turn the clock back to Williams, Finn and Jack we can't. I have sent my season tickets back to the Walker Trust in Jersey and have not even had a letter back to acknowledge reciept.

The appointment of Derek Shaw is a glimmer of hope, whilst I am not rushing out to buy a season ticket it does seem Venkys have had advice from other parties from the norm. As a business the Venkys have toasted the main income stream of EPL income. Shaw does know football and did sack managers who under performed whilst at PNE. Let's hope that between the Indian fella and Derek that targets are set for Kean and onced failed Kean is sacked.

Venkys need BRFC to get back to the top flight to recoupe as much cash as possible. As a minimum they need a business that is organised in the championship and has a potential for promotion to sell.

It's not perfect and I want Kean out as a minimum. Derek Shaw is local and will be aware of the issues in the club, I am sure he has the best intentions so let's give him a chance.

Steve Kean will now don his boots as player manager. Desai told press, the fans asked, we delivered, they wanted a stronger defence, we appointed Agnew and Shaw to defend us, they asked for more communication - we gave them a man no-one can shut up.

Again, we are delighted with appointment, why fans still are not happy? we are still very much confused.

You need to make one of your two minds up . Is your hobby jumping on bandwagons by any chance?
Sorry Frenchie, forgot to put enough sarcasm in the first one for you to recognise, I shall try harder next time. Thats what you get for rushing trying to get your transfers in your Euro dream team before kick off.
No I don't jump on anyones bandwagon. Thats why I refuse to give shaggy a chance because welder wayne wild says so. Shaggy has to prove to me he is worthy of giving a chance and so far it doesn't look good. Granted if by start of the season the entire first team hasn't been sold for swag and replaced with cheap inferior players and pensioners then hell yeah, I'll give the man of the match against shrewsbury a chance and his buddy the PNE ender.
Funny y'know when I saw the headline on the front of the Sun newspaper read, Gazza on the brink!!! I thought shaggy had got him on board too.

12 hours on and I'm still shaking my head at this appointment.

I wasn't too sure about Shebby and Agnew, but was willing to give them a chance, I also said Murphy would be a good signing.

This horrific appointment though has left me shattered, it is a monumental mistake.

Many decades ago, as well as playing for my school, I captained my local Boys Brigade football side in the Sunday School League an represented them on the management committee.

I therefore stake my claim to a senior executive role at BRFC.

This is a shocking appointment. This man wrecked PNE and clearly has no pedigree whatsoever. Things go from bad to worse!

So Mr. Shaw arrives as the Yak leaves!

Managing Director of Blackburn Rovers the man who ruined Preston North End with his spend spend spend attituite no wonder Rovers are linked with every player going and money is not a problem now, how did he present his CV to the Venkys?

In a couple of years administration for sure.

The Yak has left for China and what does he say "I've been here for only three days and I can feel the love, warmth and the professional attitude of the people." That says everything about Blackburn Rovers FC, and what he thought of the place.

If you keep putting sheite in a bucket you end up with, a bucket full of sheite. Too many coming in with little or very poor experience of running a football club well. Looks like they haven't learnt anything at all to me. Prepare for another relegation battle.

I don't really disagree with you about it actually... as this - they- are not the kind of team that I ever envisaged running my club.

But perhaps it will be better run than last season when we had nobody in these positions.

That's my only hope - sad I know - that these people Shebby, Shaw et al - can make even a little difference to the shambles of the last 18 months.

Unbelievable !

When in the toughest league in the world Venkys dismiss the following experience people
Manager
Chairman
Secretary
Directors

they replace them with inexperienced
Manager
Director ( Rao )

and when they get relegated they sack the new Secretary and Stadium Manager of 20 years and appoint

Global Advisor ( TV Pundit)
MD ( from PNE )
Ops Director ( previously PNE)

Our previous silent leader then says ( if you believe she said it )

"We are keen to build up a good image for BRFC among the fans"

"Hello" - no disrespect to PNE but I know nothing about these 2 ,except PNE got relegated and have financial problems - hardly a success story

Mrs Desai - please listen carefully to the fans not advisors . There is only 1 way to begin to build bridges with the fans and that is

"Sack the Drunk Driver"

Unless there is now a club policy of employing loads of people to boost the dwindling Match Attendance figures

Derek Shaw is local and will be aware of the issues in the club, I am sure he has the best intentions so let's give him a chance.
why send your season ticket back to the walker trust in jersey , you have been badly advised by venkys kean shaw shaby ect ect ect

Speak to people connected with PNE.... Del Boy is no good, there was lots of 'naughtyness' going on when he was chairman.

This 'man?' is bad news, I cannot reaveal exact details but suffice to say I know people who were very, very close to him at PNE...

Is this the Venky exit strategy? Appoint a bunch of no hopers and then sell them the club at a knock down price after stripping the assets by selling all the key players?

A sort of " try before they die deal"

Sounds like a plan

Venky's Out, Kean Out, Agnew Out, Shabby Out, Shaw Out?

Oh, forget it, I'm Out!

Well boys and girls, and the post 'watchers' I'm taking a sabbatical, I would of ventured to Ewood next season, however the club I love has died.

In 35 years I've had some ups and downs as a Rovers fan. The club has played a massive part of my life, but sadly that club no longer exists.

Feels as though I've lost a loved one.

I will return, but only when decent human beings are in charge, take care peeps.

What is Ms Venky,s on about...a new era.
In NO WAY is this a new era....it is a basic reshuffle of those within the club plus Mr. Preston.
A NEW ERA IS ...
...A NEW MANAGER OF QUALITY THAT WILL BRING RESPECT AND CREDIBILITY BACK INTO THE CLUB AND ATTRACTION QUALITY GOOD/YOUNG PLAYERS THAT WILL SERVE WELL IN THE NEXT 2-4 YEARS.
This seems a desperate moves that was very lacking last season and totally overlooked until the fans cried out for some structure within the club.
Having Indian owners is to me like having a Russian take over Lancashire cricket club....continuously on the backfoot (pardon the pun !)
