Salgado: I never got any answers

A FRUSTRATED Michel Salgado admits he is still seeking an explanation for why his Blackburn Rovers dream became a nightmare – after admitting no one at the club can tell him the reasons.

The former Spanish international and Real Madrid defender will exit Ewood this summer at the end of his two-year deal, having spent the last six months frozen out at the club.

It is understood Salgado was not allowed to play as part of a cost cutting exercise, due to a clause in his contract, but the 36-year-old admits no one has been able to give him a straight answer.

Steve Kean’s men were handed a tough start to next season, with an opening day trip to Ipswich on August 18, with Chinese outfit Guangzhou understood to be closing in on top scorer Yakubu.

Salgado said: “I’m still trying to find an explanation for the big change in December and it’s not an easy one to get to the bottom of.

“The problem is that if you try to find an explanation there is nobody inside the club that can explain anything. That’s the most disappointing and frustrating thing.

“It was really disappointing to end it like that because things were going OK for us when suddenly they changed everything.

“In the last six months I just couldn’t stay. It was really upsetting not just for me but for the rest of the team and the fantastic fans. It was tough to see my friends there get relegated from the Premier League.”

Absolute disgrace that the club is being run this way. A player of his experience and wllingness to fight and play to try and save us from relegation and he can't get any answers. Apparently part of a cost cutting excercise !!These Venky clowns have no idea, neither dothe pople who are so called advisors and how the FA can say the club is being run proper is beyond believe, unless someone has been given a backhander, makes you wonder. There seems only one way to gt thse eople out , no fans buying season tickets and ging to matches, no revenue coming in, well we all know the answer.Fans really need to stick together on this one and Venkys need to make some anouncements and quick.

"there is nobody inside the club that can explain anything" - an internationally respected player is saying this. It chimes with the feelings of the supporters and Paul Agnew needs to answer or explain. It is his job. Michel deserves it and the fans need to know what is happening if they are not going to stay away in droves.

telling words from what is a big loss to us. whilst i want to steer clear of supposition, knee-jerk responses and abuse, it is obvious that the club is currently doing itself a disservice. freezing out a player without formal explanation is simply not good enough. and particularly with this being a player of experience who also seems like a nice bloke and has not demanded much more than common courtesy.
you can't help but feel that we not only lost an experienced player who might have been able to make a difference in the relegation battle, but also potentially a great character to have around a team full of youngsters learning the game. he seems set for coaching, and surely a champions' league winner would be the kind of coach who would have a lot to offer. i can't help but feel players like salgado and nelsen could have provided a great deal to the club beyond their playing days.

This is clearly remarkable.

This super rich Venkys, who told us with a straight face that the likes of Beckham were coming to the club, wouldn't play someone who could have helped stop relegation, because they'd have to pay their wages? Wtf!

I thought we were missing an "experienced" player last season. That's why we're looking at Murphy isn't it? Not being funny but this former Real Madrid man, with over 50 caps for his country, and 2 champions league medals under his belt, might just have been that man we were looking for!

And this senior Rovers player hasn't been able to talk to anyone at the club for the last six months about this. Double wtf!

What is going on eh? It's nuts.

Where is our new general manager to explain how it all actually makes sense?

Well we all know what Salgado is saying - in fact for once there has been no distiction between the players, staff and fans here, we have all been treated as 'one'...non of us have been told anything....nothing other than cheap talk, cheap frills and cheap management.

Those players worried about their own financial situation and realising they are less likely to attract a properly run football club paying better wages are unfortunately in a catch 22 position - they want to probably join forces and stand up to the owners, but cannot as the evidence proves your out on your ear if you dare, so Dunny, Perderson, that reserve player from QPR, are all keeping quite as they have no choice.

As I have said before, the lady devil cannont hold all the cards to the future of this club and to that of the incompetant manager SK, they appear to be firing all and sundry within the club, yet the one man who has failed in every department remains, and with all the firing, remains at the top of the tree.

I know we are all hoping for a sale of the club...but to be honest, the feeling I get is that come the beginning of July, they will have the management structure they want in place and we will start life in the Chumpionship as un-prepared and crazy as we did the beginning of last season.

Mr Agnew - as a 'master' of communications and presumably therefore of public relations - ask yourself how a football club can treat a professional footballer in this manner. Think about the reputational effect on our club.

Here is someone who gave everything he had in every game he played in, had won multiple honours in a long and distinguished career but was treated with such contempt.

He is married to Real Madrid's (ex) presidents daughter for goodness sake. Guess how a family conversation about our club would be positioned - complimentary - definitely under the John Williams regime - but under your employers time - the very opposite.

Personally and regrettably I would agree that Salgado played on for one season too many and was off the pace in too many games last season. This does not however excuse the way in which he was treated - I will not say 'managed' as that horrible little man who carries that undeserved title would not have had the moral courage to sit down with Salgado and tell him how it was and to give him a free transfer and a big thank you.

Every single aspect of the way in which our club is currently being managed disgusts me and it is your job to change round that attitude - quickly - but I just sense that you do not carry the ability to make the changes that are needed - as I would have expected someone with the responsibilities you now have to have been pro-actively tackling these many crisis issues long before now.

I just wonder if all those managers and football pundits on Sky etc would like to explain too, they were so very critical of Rovers fans for the way Kean was being treated, maybe they can now ask why quite a few players were treated so shabbily without explanation. I just wonder how many would have been so supportive if Venky's had got their mitts on United or Chelsea and destroyed those clubs like they've destroyed Rovers

Totally agree with the Salgado comments.
Played one season too long and his legs were going but his commitment, attitude and professionalism could always be counted on.
If only the other players that we had played with the same desire then we would not be where we are now.
Players like Salgado with his knowledge and experience rarely come to clubs the size of ours and when they do they should be kept hold of in a coaching capacity to help bring on the good youngsters that we have. He did not deserved to be treated the way he had and that itself is a huge embarrassment to the name of Blackburn Rovers, a club that had always been a family club and one that previous players have always held in high esteem.

As well as all the problems we have at our club now with the arrogant idiots in charge, we are not being helped at all with the reporting done through the LET.
Peter White would of reported the way it should of been done with total honesty and in the best interests of BRFC.
I'm sorry but the reporting now is weak. It does not tell the footballing world what is really happening and a lot of respect has gone for the newspaper now.
It has to change quickly to help the supporters cause of the club being run properly again with the best interests of BRFC the most important factor, and not the shoddy failing career of a reporter who is out of his depth.

Just released by malaysian press. Keano is now a puppet! We have a new director of football. Who knows we might be at a turning point. Send him back to the training ground!!!

KUALA LUMPUR -- Former Malaysian international and football pundit Serbegeth Singh or better known as 'Shebby' has been appointed English Championship division, Blackburn Rovers football director next season.
According to reports from the Dailymail of United Kingdom today, Shebby’s appointment was confirmed by club owner, Venky's (India) Limited.

Venky's is the Indian-based company which specialized in chicken meat processing and pharmaceutical products for both poultry and human usage, owned by brothers Balaji Rao and Venkatesh Rao.

The report added that one of Shebby's tasks were to act as a go-between Venky's owner and the club manager, Steve Kean.

The 44-year-old Kean's future at the club remains uncertain after being relegated from the top flight - English Premier League (EPL) to Championship division next season - after finishing second from the bottom last season.

Shebby is expected to leave his current job as a pundit in the local private television cable news station to take up the job. - Bernama

it's an absolute disgrace that a respected professional who has played at the one of the worlds biggest clubs for most of his career. Who has played international football for most of his career can't get answers from the footballing no-mark that is Steve Kean.

It's a measure of Keans arrogance and delusion that he can't find the time to talk to a footballing legend.

Steve Kean, failed player, mediocre coach and appallingly bad manager can't find the time to talk to Michel Salgado????

sparky_iom says...

This holds no surprise, it's cheaper if they get players handing in transfer requests. By freezing the players out they will by default reduce the wage bill which is what they are after doing. What they don't understand is that unfortunately you can't get more productivity out of fewer people in the game of football, so business practice does not apply in this instance.

Let's face it, it doesn't matter how many words are written against Venky's, they'll ignore it all and do what they want. No one on Sky, in the FA or PL has the bottle to actually come out and defend the action of the supporters so what chance has the LET got to print what is going on.

My feelings go out to the players in this matter. Under normal circumstances this could be construed as constructive dismissal. I'm not too sure how this applies to football contracts!

But way worse than that, kean saw it this season...and then just dumped one of the most commited veterans the game has seen in modern day football. And didnt even give him an explanation. He seriously couldnt sit him down and give him the honest truth.
And that is the man tony pulis called a credit to management.

In his prime he was a very good full back (you don't spend ten years in the team at Real unless you know what you're doing, I would think)

A good honest pro and someone who genuinely seemed to care about his job and his role at the club...and lets be honest, integrity is a rare thing in the modern game.

If this story is true it's an absolute disgrace. To treat an experienced senior player, respected by many, like this is not acceptable.

I'm sure Salgado will live, I doubt he's short of a bob or too, but some things are more important than money. With behaviour like this the owners are tarnishing the name and reputation of BRFC throughout the game. No matter what the circumstances, how you carry and conduct yourself say's a lot about who you are and what you are.

No communication, no cohesive forward planning, no management skills, no people skills, no consideration for the fans.

Venky's really are a joke.

Venkys are not a joke, after what they have done at BRFC they are SCUM, and Kean well he is just a drunk driving liar whose children will grow up knowing what a poor father he has been, selling his soul for money, any decent man doing a job so badly which hurt so many people would just resign but not Keano.

In his prime he was a very good full back (you don't spend ten years in the team at Real unless you know what you're doing, I would think)

A good honest pro and someone who genuinely seemed to care about his job and his role at the club...and lets be honest, integrity is a rare thing in the modern game.

And you would resign in the same situation? Think very carefully before you answer

Take your point BRFC, most people are only on this earth for 70 years normaly and Kean may become a millioner but he has to live what he has done to the town of Blackburn for the rest of his life, and that would pray on a normal persons mind but not our Keano, another drink another few "F" words in front of people who will listen to a drunk, and go home to his wife telling her how good he is!!!!

Good day.

never known a football club run in such isolation, with such arrogance shown towards the true supporters of this historical club.
already we have this distant gestures from conman kean of a possible signing....not that Murphy will change direction of that will be left of the playing squad come mid-august !!
I predict another unprepared squad that will hit the season limping into another fustrating season under kean & co.
they deserve nothing and hoping they will get their just rewards for their failings in all department.
the venky,s still don,nt seem to be learning anything from the time kean was appointed...he never had the experience for the job, never had success in leadership-managemen

t...his own performance off the pitch and in front of the camera have been laughable to say the least...yet they still persist with the clown.
are they having a laugh !!
One thing that should always be remembered is that the players aren't to blame in this. They can't decide who owns us, and they can't decide who manages us.

I feel sorry for them, especially the young uns. All the staff in fact. From the pie sellers wondering if they'll be needed, to the girls in the ticket office, to those still high up waiting to be next sacked.

I'm guessing pretty much everyone at the club hates the situation even more than we do.

And it's effectively down to one man. He must have the pride of a paedo. Good song that for him next season; pride of a paedo to guantanamera.

It has to change quickly to help the supporters cause of the club being run properly again with the best interests of BRFC the most important factor, and not the shoddy failing career of a reporter who is out of his depth.
you cannot compare peter white with the so called sports writers this newspaper employs nowadays i loved whites columns true professional he was.weak reporting i agree but lazy and amateurish spring to mind with this lot they should be getting their arses down to ewood and banging on a few doors chasing and hounding anyone in charge to dig out the truth about whats going on full stop.

It would do the team a favour if the dole-dossing protesters stayed away while the genuine fans renew their season tickets and support steve kean and Venkys.
The people in the stands were booing that mammary gland of a manager, never the players

I only mentioned Peter White as an example of how reporting should be done and how he had the club at heart.

I myself used to look fwd to reading his columns (after my dad) and they were "always" on the mark and he was respected throughout the fans and the club.

The list of former players/staff that have publicly spoken out about Venky's and Kean is nothing short of disgraceful.

I think Michel Salgado's crime if there was one, was that he was signed by Sam Allardyce who had a good relationship him. He was seen as being in the Sam camp and could feed information about Steve Kean and Venky's to him, for use in any future legal action against them. The same reason for Jason Roberts, and all the others who were frozen out, all for being a friend of Sam Allardyce, they were regarded as a potential threat to expose the dealings, of Kean and Venky's through being privy to how the club was now being operated. They were flys in the ointment, to them being given carte blanche to run the club into the ground, and were fearful of loose lips.
