German clubs lead the chase for Rovers' Hoilett

GERMAN INTEREST Winger Junior Hoilett GERMAN INTEREST Winger Junior Hoilett

Blackburn Rovers are in danger of losing Canadian starlet Junior Hoilett for less than £1million – as clubs from Germany lead the chase for the in demand winger.

Sources close to Hoilett have told the Lancashire Telegraph there are already concrete offers on the table for him from several clubs in Germany as they steal the march on his English suitors.

It is understood though Rovers have also started tentative talks with at least two Premier League clubs, with the player himself having already decided he is quitting Ewood Park.

The 21-year-old’s Rovers contract expires this summer although, due to his age and coming through the Ewood academy, the club would be due compensation.

Rovers could expect as much as £4million should he stay in the Premier League but, due to different compensation rules abroad, they would only receive about £750,000 if he moved overseas.

Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach are understood to be among the number of German clubs interested, with Hoilett having enjoyed his loan spells in the country a few seasons ago.

He is yet to decide on where he believes his best next move will be but sources close to the player believe returning to Germany would be appealing to him.

A source close to Hoilett, said: “He is open to anything at the moment. He will see what happens in the next few weeks and what opportunities arise.

“Blackburn Rovers know he has to move on now to achieve what he wants to in the game. Now they are not in the Premier League he could not stay.”

Rovers have a battle on their hands to keep a number of their top players in the coming weeks – with the unrest behind the scenes doing little to persuade them to stay.

With Steve Kean’s managerial future still very much up in the air, as owner Mrs Desai continues to ignore growing pressure on her from within the club to remove him from the hotseat, a number of the squad are looking at pastures new.

Martin Olsson, Steven Nzonzi, Yakubu and Paul Robinson are all sought after by Premier League rival and the unrest would need to be eased for any of them to be tempted into playing a part in next season’s Championship campaign.

Hoilett though is one who can’t be persuaded as he mulls over an increasing number of options ahead of next season.

He will presumably go to Germany as the lower fee will mean he gets higher wages or a bigger signing fee then, he doesn't care about the club that has trained him since the age of 13.

You cant hate on them wanting to further their careers.. you honestly telling me you never changed jobs to further yours when you realised where you were was getting you no-where?

Football is a harsh sport anyway.. wages may be huge, but you're finished after 30.. he's bound to do whats best for his career and put himself first... no-one else will.

Hoilet reminds me of Pedersen in the early days - highly coveted by rivals and their fans as if he's special when in reality, he's a good prospect but likely to fade away. I liken him to Lennon - quick, the odd goal, can't cross.

Whilest we all know he needs to go a Prem club so we can make more cash, I bet Venkys will feck that up as well. And come the end ofit, only the agents will make any acsh.

Apparently part of Kean’s pitch to save his job was if he stayed all/almost all the players would want to stay. I just don’t know how he can face himself in the mirror in the morning. I have never known an individual less suited to manage a football club.

Spot on comparison with SWP, shows flashes of brilliance but drifts out of the game and has only played when he feels like it since he realised he wouldn't be signing another Rovers contract.

I predict 12 months in Germany on a fat salary, easy life waltzing around teutonic defenders and posting a dozen dazzling goals on Youtube, then back to the Prem to sit on the bench for 3 years at City !

Why does the media insist on referring to the chief architect of Rovers' destruction, Anuradha Desai, as "Mrs Desai"? It's really weird, frankly. If you're going to refer to her as "Mrs Desai" in this article, then why is Hoilett not referred to as "Mr Hoilett"?

If it's some kind of term of respect that she insists upon, then she's hardly earned it, has she?

Why pick when he's clearly both !
Maybe the next conspiracy theory to emerge is, Bradley Orr is really Myles Anderson with a rubber mask on, to protect the "late developer" from the media spotlight.

I thought it was common knowledge to fans who actually read the news, as opposed to those who spend all their time on here cracking jokes and trying to wind people up.

Can't be arsed searching the web trying to find the exact source. But below is a link to the LT archive dated 17th May when all of the football press had already said 100% hoilett was going, and Kean according to Cryer was making his pitch to Venky’s to save his job:

“It is believed he looked to persuade her that keeping faith with him as boss was the club’s best chance of keeping the majority of the current squad together. He is understood to have not given up on retaining Junior Hoilett’s services, despite the in demand Canadian being out of contract this summer."

Not the 100% that I quoted granted, but not a million miles away either. And this piece wasn’t even my source

I think that's probably a little bit unfair, Junior has at least shown some talent in the toughest league in the world and weighed in with a few goals. My memory (such as it is) of Franz is that he played in the old Div 2 era, was very quick in straight lines, but not a lot else.

For those criticising Junior on loyalty let me put a simple question.
The firm you work for is owned by idiots who may vanish at any moment. Your firm has been degraded to a level where your talents are less likely to be seen and you'll almost certainly face a pay cut and eventual transfer to another outfit without any real consultation. The firm manager is incompent.
Meanwhile other firms offer you a good, probably better wage, where you can showcase your potential under a proven better management.
You know you have max ten years at your peak before your earning power rapidly goes into terminal decline.
Do you

b) stay with the idiots

Hands up those who honestly vote for b)

Think you must all be watching a different Hoilett than me.
Don’t get the comparisons with Lennon and SWP. Both of them just rely on pace to get past clumsy defenders and are usually head down road runner types. I agree they tend to waste everything by having a dreadful final ball. I see Hoilett as having none of their pace, but relying on dribbling skill to get past defenders. Equally, I wouldn’t necessarily classify him as a winger as a lot of his most effective work seems to be along the line of the 18yd box.
Personally I think he is a much more effective player than either Lennon or SWP and if I had to make a comparison it would be with our very own Damien Duff….anybody remember that wonderful goal at Anfield (last game of the season, which would have been a goal of the season contender if it had happened before mid-May). I guess Hoilett looks better than SWP and Lennon as he stands out as a good player in a poor side whereas Lennon is up against better team-mates at Spuds and so was SWP at both City and Chelsea (but maybe not QPR).

A bit harsh comparing him to Franz Carr as he was always full of promise (don’t actually remember him playing for the first team (I may be wrong) but think Cloughie signed him effectively from our reserve side for a daft amount of money for an unproven player. What cannot be disputed is that before leaving Rovers – Carr had never played (let alone scored) in the top division. We all thought Carr would be wonderful but none of us really knew. At least Hoilett has had a couple of seasons with the top boys and the SUPPOSED interest would suggest that other managers/coaches think he is (or could be) the real deal.

And as for those of you who think he should stay – would you want to work in a place of work where your boss is an incompetent fool and the owners seem to be trying to destroy the factory and claim it all back on the insurance and you end up with no job. Don’t be daft….nobody should have to work in that environment. Its more lie a zoo at Ewood than a place of work.

Fair play, that actually made me smile.

Now run along and hand the Burnley brain cell back to Jimmy Jambone, he doesn't let the rest of you play it very often.

HH, I don't really think we are too far apart on that one but I can't put Junior in the same league as Duff. Appreciate your point on style but he's never shown the fantastic attitude that Duff displayed.

Duff worked tirelessly up and down the wing, wanted the ball all the time and bled blue and white. The kid was in tears when he was told he had to leave, which is a far cry from what we've experienced from Junior. He's a talented prospect who's head has been turned and still has some work to do to be as good as he thinks he is. I wish him luck but better players, like Bentley, have left us and just disappeared.

Only a question, but do the Venkys have any say what will happen once his contract runs out?

Why are we the fans concerned about how much they get for him? Yes in the old days it mattered as we could spend a bit on a bargain player like Mark Hughes used to do but we dont expect the Venkeys and that bafoon they still employ on higher wages than our Prime Minister to use the money to buy anything other than Kentaro cast offs.

So is Kean one of those managers who has a contract where he gets a % of the fee when a player is sold ?

Don't think his super agent would have missed that trick when he put the Steve Kean contract together.
