German clubs lead the chase for Rovers' Hoilett
9:29am Friday 25th May 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
GERMAN INTEREST Winger Junior Hoilett
Blackburn Rovers are in danger of losing Canadian starlet Junior Hoilett for less than £1million – as clubs from Germany lead the chase for the in demand winger.
Sources close to Hoilett have told the Lancashire Telegraph there are already concrete offers on the table for him from several clubs in Germany as they steal the march on his English suitors.
It is understood though Rovers have also started tentative talks with at least two Premier League clubs, with the player himself having already decided he is quitting Ewood Park.
The 21-year-old’s Rovers contract expires this summer although, due to his age and coming through the Ewood academy, the club would be due compensation.
Rovers could expect as much as £4million should he stay in the Premier League but, due to different compensation rules abroad, they would only receive about £750,000 if he moved overseas.
Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach are understood to be among the number of German clubs interested, with Hoilett having enjoyed his loan spells in the country a few seasons ago.
He is yet to decide on where he believes his best next move will be but sources close to the player believe returning to Germany would be appealing to him.
A source close to Hoilett, said: “He is open to anything at the moment. He will see what happens in the next few weeks and what opportunities arise.
“Blackburn Rovers know he has to move on now to achieve what he wants to in the game. Now they are not in the Premier League he could not stay.”
Rovers have a battle on their hands to keep a number of their top players in the coming weeks – with the unrest behind the scenes doing little to persuade them to stay.
With Steve Kean’s managerial future still very much up in the air, as owner Mrs Desai continues to ignore growing pressure on her from within the club to remove him from the hotseat, a number of the squad are looking at pastures new.
Martin Olsson, Steven Nzonzi, Yakubu and Paul Robinson are all sought after by Premier League rival and the unrest would need to be eased for any of them to be tempted into playing a part in next season’s Championship campaign.
Hoilett though is one who can’t be persuaded as he mulls over an increasing number of options ahead of next season.

Can't be arsed searching the web trying to find the exact source. But below is a link to the LT archive dated 17th May when all of the football press had already said 100% hoilett was going, and Kean according to Cryer was making his pitch to Venky’s to save his job:
“It is believed he looked to persuade her that keeping faith with him as boss was the club’s best chance of keeping the majority of the current squad together. He is understood to have not given up on retaining Junior Hoilett’s services, despite the in demand Canadian being out of contract this summer."
Not the 100% that I quoted granted, but not a million miles away either. And this piece wasn’t even my source

The firm you work for is owned by idiots who may vanish at any moment. Your firm has been degraded to a level where your talents are less likely to be seen and you'll almost certainly face a pay cut and eventual transfer to another outfit without any real consultation. The firm manager is incompent.
Meanwhile other firms offer you a good, probably better wage, where you can showcase your potential under a proven better management.
You know you have max ten years at your peak before your earning power rapidly goes into terminal decline.
Do you
a) move on
b) stay with the idiots
Hands up those who honestly vote for b)

Don’t get the comparisons with Lennon and SWP. Both of them just rely on pace to get past clumsy defenders and are usually head down road runner types. I agree they tend to waste everything by having a dreadful final ball. I see Hoilett as having none of their pace, but relying on dribbling skill to get past defenders. Equally, I wouldn’t necessarily classify him as a winger as a lot of his most effective work seems to be along the line of the 18yd box.
Personally I think he is a much more effective player than either Lennon or SWP and if I had to make a comparison it would be with our very own Damien Duff….anybody remember that wonderful goal at Anfield (last game of the season, which would have been a goal of the season contender if it had happened before mid-May). I guess Hoilett looks better than SWP and Lennon as he stands out as a good player in a poor side whereas Lennon is up against better team-mates at Spuds and so was SWP at both City and Chelsea (but maybe not QPR).
A bit harsh comparing him to Franz Carr as he was always full of promise (don’t actually remember him playing for the first team (I may be wrong) but think Cloughie signed him effectively from our reserve side for a daft amount of money for an unproven player. What cannot be disputed is that before leaving Rovers – Carr had never played (let alone scored) in the top division. We all thought Carr would be wonderful but none of us really knew. At least Hoilett has had a couple of seasons with the top boys and the SUPPOSED interest would suggest that other managers/coaches think he is (or could be) the real deal.
And as for those of you who think he should stay – would you want to work in a place of work where your boss is an incompetent fool and the owners seem to be trying to destroy the factory and claim it all back on the insurance and you end up with no job. Don’t be daft….nobody should have to work in that environment. Its more lie a zoo at Ewood than a place of work.

Duff worked tirelessly up and down the wing, wanted the ball all the time and bled blue and white. The kid was in tears when he was told he had to leave, which is a far cry from what we've experienced from Junior. He's a talented prospect who's head has been turned and still has some work to do to be as good as he thinks he is. I wish him luck but better players, like Bentley, have left us and just disappeared.
