FULL-TIME: Blackburn Rovers 2, Liverpool 3
10:11pm Tuesday 10th April 2012 in News By Matt Baxter
An injury-time winner from Andy Carroll seals three points for Liverpool in a dramatic 3-2 clash at Ewood Park tonight.
Two early goals from Maxi Rodriguez and a return two from Yakubu saw a battling fixture. But with the Nigerian scuppering one of two penalties given, Rovers will surely rue the error from their usually sure-fire striker.
Things got off to a dramatic start at Ewood tonight with Blackburn quickly finding themselves on the backfoot to an advancing Liverpool.
Despite early trades in play, a brilliantly judged clearance from Skrtel was met by a breaking Bellamy on the right. The Welshman soon broke into a sprint as a two-on-two opened up.
With Maxi Rodriguez dashing to meet the ensuing ball across the box, all it took from the Argentinian was a simple touch to give the Reds the lead.
Only two minutes later he earned his second. A roving Shelvey was allowed to advance too far on goal and whilst Robinson saved his attempt on goal, the ball was picked up by Rodriguez yet again for an easy second inside fifteen minutes.
As Blackburn looked defeated already, an opportunity soon arose for the home side when a terrible backpass from Jon Flanagan was picked up by Hoilett.
With the Canadian now goalbound, Liverpool keeper Alexander Doni’s late confrontation gave Rovers a much-needed penalty and a sending off for the keeper.
Flanagan was swiftly subbed in place of substitute keeper Brad Jones as the Yak lined up to take the spot kick. But with an unusually-lazy strike from the forward, it made an easy save for Jones to keep Liverpool in their two-goal lead.
Things soon changed however as Blackburn began to take advantage of the Reds’ ten men. With the away side now sitting back, Rovers were beginning to gather pace and press for their opener.
This soon came as Rovers were handed a freekick after Bellamy gave away a hand ball. With Dunn taking, Yakubu soon made up for his foul penalty with a strong header into the back of the net.
As the two sides headed in at half-time, Blackburn were looking like they could bring the fight back to Liverpool in the second period.
As play resumed, an early scare from Carroll kept Blackburn on their toes whilst Robinson made a solid save from a Skrtel header soon after.
As the two sides battled it out for possession, Rovers were soon handed a golden chance in the form of yet another penalty.
Goalkeepers weren’t faring well tonight as Brad Jones soon gave away yet another spot kick against Liverpool. With his goalkick clattering against an naggling Yakubu, Jones appeared to push the striker to the floor as he fought to bring the ball under control.
With the keeper given a yellow, Yakubu soon rectified his earlier spotkick with another goal for Rovers sixty minutes in.
Goals now level, Blackburn were really beginning to press hard for the lead as more chances started to appear.
Opting to press the attack, Kean soon switched Formica for Ruben Rochina. The change soon looked to pay off as chances from Hoilett and Grant Hanley almost gained the lead for Blackburn.
The home side looked like they might even get a helping hand as Carroll made a back-header bound for goal from Robinson’s goal kick. However, Brad Jones reacted quickly to prevent the own goal tipping Blackburn in front.
Liverpool continued to look edgy as play entered the final ten minutes; often finding themselves forced to make rash clearances against the Rovers onslaught.
Amid screams by Blackburn fans for a final goal to earn the win, Liverpool were soon awarded a freekick after a stray elbow from Hanley caught Carroll mid-air.
Whilst the setpiece was sent sailing over the bar, another ball from the Liverpool backline was suddenly converted into an injury time shocker for Liverpool, as Agger tipped the ball onto the head of Andy Carroll for a 90th minute goal.
With the shock goal now leaving the scores at 3-2, Blackburn could do little to prevent the Reds stealing all three points in the dying minutes.

The substitutions were too late and they did not set up at half time to play against 10 men. Hoilett and Formica could not have played any worse had they tried to play so badly.
That was the performance of a relegation team, if they continue like that we won't pick up another point this season.
Of course they have to continue the struggle and never give up, but it looks too much for this team to avoid relegation.

You & YOUR team are an utter shambles. The game was lost at 2-0 - fact. All that you leave us are crumbs and scraps to feed off. LFC going down to 10 gave you a glimmer of hope and you still facked it up.
I will not gripe at the players one iota for they are under your instruction and failing miserably.
Please do the decent thing and resign before you do any more damage and chillingly - permanently !
You sir, are an utter disgrace way out of your depth and more worryingly have no luck at all. Your lucky break arrived when you took the reins at BRFC with a pay day that most people can only wonder at. You are not worth a cent of the pay off you will receive.
Utter disgrace.

Look at the starting line up and we only have 2 players who you could call premiership quality. Despite conceding 3 in the last game and 2 in each of the previous 2 we still stick the the same 2 at centre back. Yes Mr Kean we really do believe the rumours that Givet isn't playing due to money. All the following now gone. Samba, J Jones, P Jones, Solgado, Diouff, Andrews, Roberts, Nelsen, Emerton and it all adds up to Assett stripping, saving on wages and caring not one jot about what is served up on the pitch.
Mark my words, this lot continue as owners, this joke of a manger will still be in charge and we will be relegated again next year. Season 2013/14 will be in league one and don't be surprised to have 2 league game against Fleetwood Town FC.
Gone are the permier league days, we wont see this level again!
I am very very sad.

That was another poor performance - slow out of the blocks 2-0 down and if they had kept 11 men it would have been worse.
No confidence anywhere on the pitch - even Yaks first penalty was diabolically poor. Outplayed and ouitrun in midfield and the defence never looked safe all night.
The final nail in the coffin - Rovers deserve to be relegated if that is the level of performance they think is acceptable.
As for the Referee well he was as bad as Rovers - out of his depth never in control and to say his decisions were questionable was being kind.
Have Venkys too accepted the parachute money and gone AWOL - their performance has matched the teams performance tonight
Until Kean goes I wont be renewing my season ticket because next season even in the Cham, pionship will be just the same - inept, full of excuses and little by way of entertainment for your money

When our midfield did get the ball they either didn't know what to do. Kept passing sideways or backwards or just gave it back to Liverpool. Nobody looks comfortable on the ball. Utter dross! Only Yak can hold his head up tonight despite that awful penalty miss. Championship here we come. Venkys and Kean have destroyed Rovers in under two seasons. Pray we get new owners who sack Kean and invest into the team to get us back in the Premiership.

The down side is they cleared off 10 minutes before the end so probably think that it was a good performance and a good comeback against what Kean will tell them was a good Liverpool side.
I'm afraid that's what they call the straw that broke the camel's back. It seems everyone at the club is resigned to impending doom. The players are not motivated, the manager (as ever) provides no inspiration or motivation and the supporters have been given very little cause to cheer. If this side is incapable of putting away the worst Liverpool side I have EVER seen on Ewood, who were playing with 10 men for an hour and presented us with TWO penalties, then God help us.
How on earth you can perform like that in a must win game is unforgivable. Kean's stunt of resurrecting Rochina in response to the crowd's calls smacks of weak management. The owners stunt of leaving a crucial game when it is finely poised at 2-2 with 10 minutes to go sums up their level of commitment and interest in the club. Hopefully they were entertaining potential buyers.
That's 4 defeats on the bounce now. 3 of which were woeful performances to say the least against poor sides in Bolton, WBA and Liverpool. So much for the happy clappers saying we're safe. Probably this is what Kean was telling the players after the Sunderland win hence them taking their foot off the gas and their eyes off the ball in recent weeks. I can't imagine a Hughes' led QPR or a Martinez led Wigan slacking off in such embarrassing fashion.
I believe we now need 3 wins from our 5 remaining fixtures to survive. That isn't going to happen.
So well done Rovers, the players and Kean, for an utterly wretched season. The worst part of it all is we got ourselves onto the cusp of survival and then blew it. Now we will be cut adrift. The only consolation is relegation might lead to a thorough and complete rebuilding job. Too much deadwood at the club at every level.

we were truly dreadful tonight against a 10 man team that had previously been beaten by qpr and wigan.
.
for those of you that still cling on to some false premis that kean is a good coach - we have conceded more goals from crosses any team in the premiership - all you need kean is to be organised and everybody to know what they are doing and who they are picking up.
.
i see on another thread kean is blaming the ref......why the chuffin' nora did we not defend in a coordinated way? why the blue blazes did we not put the 3rd choice keeper under intense pressure - we were powder puff up front and apart from hoilett's challenge on jones, gave their keeper an exceptionally easy time. the only time he flapped was from his own teams stupid back passes.
.
christ, we were poor. i thought dunn was past it when sparky signed him back but in fairness he had a good season in allardyce's first full season - but he must be the worst premiership player this year.
.
i despise what is happening to our club and i despise the way our fans are being blamed - its not kean that needs a bodyguard its blackburn rovers that needs a bodyguard from kean and his puppetmasters in north london and pune.
.
what kean and venkys have done to my club is heartbreaking.

I give you part of this weeks analysis - "The many sycophantic and congratulatory messages aimed towards Kean and the team after last months consecutive clean sheets / victories have been ridiculed and exposed as the vacant-headed pen-jerk non-sense most of us knew they were.
.
Easy with hindsight Jim's critics may say - not so as this was his column 2 weeks ago - whilst Kean must get credit for two wins there is an uncomfortable feeling we caught Wolves and Sunderland at the right time. Has he become a tactical genius over night? Are his dodgy signings suddenly looking good?
.
And last week he said - You could understand one team at the Reebok being affected by the weeks events. Players and manager in London for 4 days. No training and no planning and the emotional issues which can drain you. Unfortunately that team was not Rovers whom seemed most affected. All Kean had to do was tunnel vision and keep them focused on the match and yet he has the audacity to use it as an excuse.
.
I hope from memory the above was fairly accurate brief review of your columns Jim!
.
The real fear is that the Kean and Venky madness has left us with little more than 12 or 13 worthy players of premiership quality as Andy Cryer rightly covered this week and some of them are home grown youngsters being asked to do too much too early - Shame on Kean - Shame on Venkys.

Fitness wise he lost it seasons ago... commitment wise from the time he was given a new contract last season most likely !!!
It the obvious personal priority of the so called "Owners" to get away before the possible protesting from the fans after another lacklustre display tells it all....their continued lack of balls, interest and not prepared to "front-up" when needed....these characteristics reflected in the team performance this evening !!!

If you choose to 'keep the faith' i.e. not complain - fine. If you choose to hold concern over our situation and therefore voice discontent - fine also. As paying customers that is and should be your right.

They see non complaint as endorsement for the owners down, in doing an acceptable job.
This is so, so far from the truth/reality.
I commend your commitment for continued support to the guys wearing the B&W, but to be frank they don't completely deserve it. i say this because I do not believe for a minute they spend very long concerning over our situation. They may say so in press articles, but we all know they are just fine orchestrated words that have very little/no real commitment behind them.

Right, Just to clear a few things……
1. I’m not an apologist for Kean/ Venkeys/Andersen…q
uite the opposite I’m a Rovers fan, no other side to me.
2. Staying away/ boycotting at this stage of the season will not rid anyone from our club the only possible effect it will have is a negative one on the team.
3. The protest didn’t have my support but acknowledge they did what they thought best for the club, ‘proper’ fans
4. 5 games to go I fear we are down; we look a poor team now, that is solely down to the mismanagement.
5. I have not re-newed or going to renew our season tickets for next season; can only take so much disappointment. Hopefully a new owner/manager is in place, then I will pick my games which to attend …Burnley home might be a good one!
6. Can’t see us picking up another point this season, without the fans backing at this crucial part of the season we are most definitely going down, whilst there is a slight chance I urge you to rethink your boycott, next season by all means but while we have a chance we should all grasp it(might never see the Rovers in the top flight again) Then by any means try to oust the regime, either by not renewing, protest or whatever method within the law you feel fit, but now is not the right time, after the season finishes.

Unchuffinbelievable this.
How this debacle rages. How a set of people with no connection whatsoever have set against the good folk of this town and it's surrounding area's !
Surely no supporter with a ounce of knowledge/conscience can renew or attend Ewood Park 2012/2013 with such dire circumstance's before us ?
For every grain of support we have for the club as now been stretched to the very limit with that before us leaving us feeling isolated, perplexed and ridiculed.
I feel like I'm in a cocooned world were nobody but the immediate supporter cares. The outside world does not give a good chuff for BRFC's plight because relegation is part and parcel of the game. The underlining reason for it is overlooked by the outside world. The ignobility of all this is what hurts but, then this is what the experts wish to see upon our club. No remorse is given or shown when we look at the plight of other clubs these last decade's that have floundered due to the insanity of supposed owners. Our plight or resurrection will be judged on the support given to the club by it's supporter's.
We will be damned if we do and damned if we don't.
I will stand firm on abstaining season next if the current regime insists on what is current and for that I will forever be damned as a supporter who walked away from my club.
The only real tool I have in recourse is to buy the share that is proposed in helping to wrestle the club back from these preposterous owners.
Here I stand today, hoping it would never be, as I once said to you many years ago looking into the 'eye of the beast' wrecked, crushed and saddened that my joy or innocence is no longer.
The b'strd price of success because when you think your on top in fact your on the bottom !
The king is dead long live the king !

Each and every one of us are hurting like I've never witnessed before even in 1999 we had not this !
You sir, know of my feelings and thoughts regards all matters BRFC. The sad thing is not one of us on these pages of opinion are right or wrong imo, at least. We all strive for the same thing all matters BRFC and that is for it to be run in a proficient manner. Alas, at this time it is not thus we all shout from the rooftop's.
Many folk I have had the pleasure to meet off these pages and I'm of the opinion that YOU are all grand folk with varying degrees of opinion. Let that be, I say ?
The solution for me should this caper carry on is for all BRFC supporter's to buy a share in the proposed buy-out then this nonsense will cease to be.
I've had a real good go at supporting this imposter these last 12 months but, no more. He must go come what may and should Venky not grow some **** and do what is the right thing for BRFC(whatever they may decide) then they too can leave. I'm no longer prepared to allow them to act on my devotion for BRFC with what lay's before me. Surely it is a two way agreement ? They support and protect our history thus we support them. Failing that then they must find a new breed of supporter for THEIR project because I do not recognize my club at the moment.
Winning, losing and drawing is what the game is about and our club functions from that. At present this is not an equal playing field.
Trim the business to a manageable end. I can fully understand this but, to watch it slowly be ripped apart when the words of Venky were so different is far to much to take.
Your support of your club as never ever held doubt in my mind. Hope this clears up your question ?
Best regards

Bazzer - don't understand your first reponse - it was not a criticism as I was saying 10,000 fans are protesting in another way but have no doubt the same view as the action group - don't forget that?
.
Your point 2 - Read my Lips again - I did not and never would have given Kean the job - end of debate.

They are flat-earthers, zealot's, traitors and Rovers haters who palpitate and quiver with sanctimonious indignation any time any one dares to criticize Kean or the Venky's.
The protests were by the majority of fans.
The majority of fans want the Venky's out.
The majority of fans want Kean out.
The hateful and spiteful happy clappers and their flat-earth policy has led us to the precipice.
The peaceful yet passionate protests were a breath of fresh air.
The way those dignified protests were ridiculed by the likes of KDG, Liiil, True Blue 84, etc and their hack friends in the media was a scandal.
No one will ever forget Radio Rovers Gerald Jackson playing loud music to drown out the protesting voices of the fans in the Blackburn End.
No one will ever forget the club telling fans in The Darwen End and The Riverside to go to The Blackburn End to protest only for the stewards to then block their entry to join the protests in The Blackburn End.
No one will ever forget the numerous meetings that the Venky's and Kean promised but failed to honour.
No one will ever forget KDG, Liiil, True Blue 84, etc and their disgraceful NAZI type questioning of peoples mental health for criticizing Kean and the Venky's.
Those who criticized the protesters were disgraceful and as bad as the awful southern-centric London biased media who despise Blackburn Rovers and who have hung one of the grandest and oldest names in the heritage of English football out to dry.

Once again the supporters who were peaceful made out the bad guys, whilst the aggressor with the clubs 100% support continues to wage a campaign to take out protesting supporters. Im totally discusted, and If this window cleaner from Oswaldtwhistle Carl Elwell cleans your windows, just be aware, if you upset him, he may come for your Kids too, and be aided by having your address given to him by the club, should he not already possess it

Now read my lips. Had Big Sam not been sacked the question of whether you would have given Kean the job would not have arisen. The phrase "be careful what you wish for" is ever so apt in your (and others) case. You wished out and hounded Big Sam - and ended up with Steve Kean.

“Childish insults”, I’d love to know what childish insults you are referring to( I asuume you’ve got a computer in front of you with LET archives..copy and paste them (not what you thought I said) and I will apologies for them. On the other hand I’ve received plenty on here and worse….death threats, beatings, hope you get cancer etc all very reasonable people, and you complain if I call someone an idiot or stupid.
“Your support of Venkeys and Kean” not true, I support the team and have never said that Venkeys or Kean are good for the club, I back the team if that seems like I support them well there’s nothing I can do about that.
“criticism of people protesting” yet again go to the LET archives and show me…..I’ve said that I didn’t agree with them and thought they had a negative effect on the club as a whole but, I always said they had a right to protest if done in the right way –mostly it was.
“bizarre points scoring” yep, got me on that one, I know you won’t believe me when I say it’s tongue in cheek…..the 500 mile thing.. besides it being true, I know it winds a certain poster up (didn’t realise until recently that it wound others up, my apologies), honestly the reason I do it….It’s my choice to live the other side of the country, but for the record it doesn’t make me any better or more committed fan, perhaps the most stupid (oh dear insulted myself)
“ I've never sworn at you or called you silly names” meaning I have? yet again prove it, if I have it was in retaliations so if you can’t take it don’t dish it.
“refer to people as "stupid" or "idiots".. In retaliation which you seen to think is a crime, just look back on this thread for example ..I just posted an innocent comment that there were two excellent post by a couple of people, within minutes I get a hatful of abuse..”Knobhead
etc…..yes I called them stupid and an idiot ..can you not see that’s in retaliation? Nothing to do with “contrary view”
There are plenty on here that come on just to insult others, the more positive, reasonable fan usally gets it and yet you don’t complain about these such poster ie Smell the coffee ,Melanie etc is that because you are singing from the same hymn sheet?

Read my lips - I hated Big Sam football along with many thousands of Rovers fans and Newcastle and now West Ham fans. I was not part of any coup and expected Venkys with their talk of Abba (money, money, money) to appoint a decent manager. The two events are completley separate and you need to focus on fans together in the present now? The fact Venkys have to turned out to be Guys and Dolls is another matter!

All are true blues - its just if more ST's at least hold back at the moment then we will be using the only voice Venkys are going to give us. And if they ignore only 1,500 ST's renewing to date (secret intelligence - can't name source!) despite the early bird offer then they really are clucking mad!

He would have seen through their lies & bullsh*t in an instant, just like a few of the regular posters on here did.
We all know why they sacked him, and it wasn't for his perceived hoofball tactics. He was sacked because they knew he wouldn't have put up with the farcical goings on down at Ewood.
This whole sorry saga has been an absolute SHAMBLES from day one. I really can't believe some people still want to give them money. I despair, I really do.
