Kean: We may just get away with Albion loss
10:40am Monday 9th April 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean admits his Blackburn Rovers side were ‘let off the hook’ by their relegation rivals on Saturday after admitting they had an off day at the Hawthorns.
The Rovers boss described his side’s first 45 minutes as not good enough during their 3-0 defeat at West Brom but insists their second half response was ‘excellent’.
Defeats elsewhere though for Wolves, Wigan and Bolton on Saturday, followed by QPR’s 2-0 loss at Manchester United yesterday, meant Rovers did not lose any ground on the teams around them in the table.
Kean said: “We were disap-pointed with the first half but delighted with the response after I spoke to the players at half time.
“We controlled possession and made chances.
“But at those vital times you’ve got to take your chances.
“But maybe we’ve been fortunate with the other results in that we’ve had a bad day but we might get away with it in the longer run.”
West Brom dominated the first half on Saturday with Martin Olsson’s early own goal giving them the half time lead.
Rovers stormed back after the break though and were only denied an equaliser by a stunning double save by Ben Foster from Yakubu and Bradley Orr, before West Brom once more took control.
“We have to look at the first half because we were poor,” said Kean.
“We brought a lot of pressure on ourselves early on. But we changed it at half time and I thought the response from the lads was excellent. We had about 17 or 18 minutes where West Brom could not get out of their half.
“During that period was the double save from Foster and that was the pivotal moment. I think if Yakubu or Bradley had put that in, it would have been very different.
“I think the response was good.
“We had enough attempts to at least get two or three goals.
“To lose three goals from set plays was disappointing.
“The first goal is disappointing because if Martin gets a better contact on it, it is cleared. But I think West Brom are a good side and have good delivery.
“I’m not saying we deserved to win but we didn’t deserve to lose by three.”
Kean is hopeful striker Anthony Modeste will be available for Rovers’ next three games, despite seeing the striker see red late on.
Modeste was dismissed for ‘intent’ after waving his foot in the direction of Billy Jones but Kean confirmed the club would appeal.
Kean said: “Jones kicks the ball away, which he gets the yellow card for, and Anthony looks as though he is going to lash out but has changed his mind at the last minute and managed to restrain himself.
“If the rule says it is intent I would argue he has actually held his temper and changed his mind and I think it would be harsh if he got three games for that.
“Hopefully the ref will have a look at it and if we can make a good appeal then great.”

Steve Kean, you have had more time to prove that you have enough managerial talent than anyone else would have been given and you are still failing miserably. I said after the abuse started raining in that nobody should have to deal with that and that all I would be judging you on is team selection and tactics; purely on that basis, Steve Kean, you are shyte.

Sense of de ja vu here. Season last at WBA, which I attended, I witnessed Kalinic score twice then get sent off and in my opinion sealed his unwarranted exit from Ewood Park thus we go Saturday on a wing and a prayer with Keans quote, which startled me considering the magnitude and low and behold Modeste is sent off contributing zero !
I watched on KOI sports and boy we were poor. The performance's since Bolton have become abject to say the least. I said to a reply week last I fear for our safety should we lose Saturday. The manner of the defeat along with trouncing again is very, very concerning. Those players must be feeling it no end pal.
Nothing but 3 points tomorrow will suffice.
I'm done my friend after this season until Kean is shown the door and Venky show some mettle for our club.

It depends on what you mean, by getting away with it Steve. I have felt awful because of the defeat on Saturday and even more awful about how this and season and last season have gone. But then again, I don't get away with taking £1.3 Million per season from the club. If I did then maybe I would think that I had got away with it too!

Just like the good old Walkers' Trust era, there will be plenty of money to buy top quality players, all sale money will be reinvested in the club and we will head hunt none other than Sir Alex (I know it sounds implausible but you know, money talks and we would have plenty of that) to manage the team.
As 'communication' will be key, as it happens with all other major PL clubs now, there will be a online poll on all fans sites each time to decide on which player to be bought and which one if needed to be sold.
All player contracts will be available online so none of this confusion about who is not playing and for what reason.
You might be wondering now as the initial capital we are raising (all 25 million of it), will easily cover the price of the club and the purchase price of the top PL players (ah! there will be none of this Scottish league or rubbish foreign players either) how we will pay the salaries of the players? Don't worry, the massive 6 million we will raise by all 25,000 of us buying a season ticket (as there will be no excuse not to buy it then, would there) will more than pay for the wages of all these top players (I am thinking of the likes of Messi, Kaka and Rooney just like in the Walker Trust times not the rubbish we have under the current regime) for the full year.

Boltons so called 'easy run-in' seems to be getting harder for them with each passing game....
Wigan are playing some good football and were unlucky to lose at Chelsea but they cant keep that same level up till the end of the season - methinks they peaked too early..
Wolves are doomed and won now.
QPR may have been clear now if Cisse had not kept getting sent off - but they are still very much in the danger zone could go either way but just a feeling they may escape...
Rovers - well even if we lose against Liverpool tomorrow we still have Norwich and Wigan at home which 'could' get us six points and with the way things are going could just be enough for us to stay up too...
So Bolton, Wigan and Wolves to go down....
BTW RR whatever happens with our owners and manager I predict you will not be 'done' with the Rovers. You are infected to the same degree as me and many others with these darned blue and white bloodcells and it is a long much drawn-out illness my friend from which we may never recover....had mine for over 50yrs!

What kind of club bans its own fans from bringing banners in, frisks women and children and appoints a drunk speeding driver as a manager?
If you have any association with Venkys, all that the fans ask is that you appoint a proper manager and provide the level of funding that you originally promised or actively seek alternative ownership and leave gracefully without doing anything spiteful.
BRST have already stated that their bid could only be successful if the club was devalued following relegation. I can't see Ferguson or the players you mention coming to Rovers whilst we are playing in the Championship. Venkys couldn't get anywhere close to that even in the days when we were an established mid-table side.

"We had about 17 or 18 minutes where West Brom could not get out of their half". So for barely 20% of the game we nearly scored against a bottom half side with little left to play for this season and a significant number of absentees?
"Hopefully Utd can put 5 past QPR"; "we may just get away with it", a half-time team talk and tactical changes that see us threaten for 20% of the game but makes the defence twice as bad as it was in the first half?
Surely when you read this crap back you must get some kind of idea why the fans are totally embarrassed that you have any association with our club.

However, nobody is saying we have a devine right to stay in the EPL with the associated astronomical costs involved. Nor is anybody expecting us to be able to dine at the top table when signing players. When was the last time we bought a "top PL player", by the way? Even towards the end of the Jack Walker years, we couldn't come close to competing for the best players.
The BRST principles are sound; the management of the club cannot continue in the current chaotic fashion. They have put forward their figures based on realistic forecasts. Of course they are insufficient for us to be buying £20million players on 100 grand a week, but no-one is expecting us to.
Venkys have gone against all their commitments when they came in and torn the heart out of the club as a result.
Relegation will happen at some time in the future regardless of who is in charge - with Venkys, it will be sooner rather than later.
The management of the club must be able to handle this inevitability. I seriously doubt Mrs D and the brothers Rao can and will get out, losing as little money as possible. This may well result in a Portsmouth situation and the real threat of BRFC going into liquidation and equally possibly out of existence.
They are not asset stripping to make money, just to avoid losing it. Same thing I suppose.
This has already started, for example, with the contract issues and reasons for players being released, some confirmed, some not.
Please don't tell us "we should be careful what we wish for". Can you ever see youself looking back, wishing for the "good old days" of Kean and Venkys?
The Walker Trust may not have pumped millions into the club. They sold it on the strength of the commitments made by Venkys; we were all duped by those. What they did do was have people in place who knew what they were doing and understood what was required. This is exactly what is needed now to avoid total meltdown.
Can the BRST do that? Who knows? One thing is for sure the current owners most definitely cannot.

We desparately needed to take at least 4 points from the last 3 games. Kean did say these were games we should get something from. I fear 'Pool will be difficult to get anything from as will Swansea away.
I reckon we need at least 7 points from somewhere. 2 defeats this week will be disasterous as I fear Wigan will get something at Ewood and what hope for Spurs away. That leaves Norwich at home and we should win that one and Chelsea away and hopefully they will have better things on their minds. Fingers crossed!

For some reason Keen doesn’t play Formica now, when he did play he gave the team movement and pace allowing Hoilett to use the space. I know others will strongly disagree with me but I’d drop the Yak, he’s slow, no movement, loses the possession loads, but more importantly isn’t scoring. The team needs more movement in the midfield/attacking part of the field which will hopefully lessen the load on the defence, problem is the midfield is weak which is putting extra pressure on the defence also not allowing any creativity for attacks. Basically the squad of players is poo, I know most blame Kean, the restrictions’ being placed on the team by Venkeys doesn’t help.

Feed the Yak and he will score is true only if he is in the opposition box - nowhere else. Not left-back or at the half-way line.
*
Our biggest weakness is Olsson at left back: physically weak, AWOL and clueless. How many times does he let a cross come in? Almost always. He is never anywhere near his man when the oppo winger receives it. How often does Olsson pass up the line (instinctive to a full-back working with the man in front of him)? Almost never - unless it's his bro? Out-jumped in the air, weak in the tackle and he scored an own goal with his 'wrong foot'.
*
Lowe is another disappointment. Good work-rate and nil creativity. His shot against West Brom is 100% down to sh1t technique.
*
Olsson, Lowe and Pedersen - a player with no mobility whatsoever - are 3 passengers. Maybe Lowe can do 'a job', but the other 2 are weak links.
*
If Olsson does not stop Gerrard crossing in from deep on the right wing tomorrow we could get beat by 4 or 5.
*
Even Carroll might score if Hanley loses him the same way he did with journeymen Ridgewell and Wheater. Sadly, Hanley is slow in the head: the last to run towards the ball and too slow to use his strength to block the run.

When Rovers fans were doubting the attributes and qualities that Andrews brought to the side he was being compared to the likes of Tugay and Savage.
To now assert that we would be better off with him in our side only serves to illustrate just how far we have sunk.
Notwithstanding your obvious fecal and anal fixations, you ought to refrain from subjecting yourself to the type of bilious and obscenity-laden flagellation to which, up until recently, you were subjecting anyone who so much as doubted Venkys' and Kean's abilities and motivation.

I've reached the decision on not renewing simply down to not supporting that which is patently abject right across the board at this time. It just doesn't feel right to endorse this any longer.
Like a pendulum I have swung since the take over and now it's stopped at the point of my support as being a detriment to the club, but this in no way means I have abandoned our club. The lies are just to much to take and what the heck is going to be different next season with present circumstances ?
The buy out is the only way I can seriously see unless Venky are to do what I have in my mind ? it is the only thing they can do to show that the club is at the very heart of what they state ? Until then my support by way of attending is null and void.
I'm watching with great interest.

At Ipswich he retrieved his reputation at a level that he could perform at. To then compare him to our current midfield which has operated without a combatative ball winning midfielder since the Jones boys were let go is hardly a ringing endorsement of Andrews' limited repertoire.
Hodgson will not renew his contract if West Brom have any ambitions to climb into the top half of the table.
Those of us who have had professional experience of working with our Indian 'colleagues' will be less then surprised with our current predicament. Anybody that tries to make a case for Kean as a Premiership manager doesn't understand football nor has the interests of BRFC at heart.
