There's nothing in Givet rumours, insists Blackburn Rovers boss
9:30am Saturday 7th April 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean believes Gael Givet can play a key role in Blackburn Rovers’ relegation scrap – after rubbishing rumours he has been forced to pick his side partly around financial issues.
Givet returns to Rovers’ squad for this afternoon’s vital trip to West Bromwich Albion, having missed the last two games through a hamstring injury.
The Frenchman was only on the substitutes bench for the two Premier League games before that, after returning from suspension, sparking suggestions from sections of supporters ‘contractual issues’ were keeping him out.
Having already seen Jason Roberts and Michel Salgado frozen out of first team affairs at Ewood Park, due to clauses in their contracts that would have guaranteed them a new deal if they played a certain amount of games, it had been feared in some quarters there were other players affected by similar issues.
Kean has been reluctant to play the likes of Ruben Rochina and Simon Vukcevic for the past couple of months, even from the bench, but Kean has rubbished any suggestions contracts have had anything to do with his team selection.
Kean said: “There is not a thing in it. Gael Givet signed a contract last year and it was a fresh contract.
“There is no automatic extensions and that is not a factor why Gael is not playing.
“There is no truth in any of that. I was just about to bring David Dunn on at 0-0 against Manchester United and they scored.
“We felt the last few weeks the number of chances we are creating with the guys on the pitch, we will only look to change it if someone is struggling or we need a different dynamic. I felt against United we were still in it.
“Gael’s injury took longer to clear up. He is back, looking fresh and bright and it is always good to have a fit Gael Givet in the squad. He is the sort of character we want. He is a real warrior.
“You look at the competition we have all over the squad and it is great. We have had David Dunn on the bench, midfield players be aware.
“Formica, Rochina, everyone is looking fresh and sharp. People have to be right on it because the lads on the bench are chomping at the bit.”
Meanwhile, Rovers come up against former midfielder Keith Andrews at the Hawthorns this afternoon after the Republic of Ireland international quit Ewood in the summer.
Andrews opted to quit the club in favour of a short term deal at the Baggies, before launching an explosive attack on the Venky’s regime at Rovers.
He branded the club as “chaotic” and said Kean was not in charge of team selection but the Rovers boss insisted he still had full respect for Andrews.
He said: “I got on very well with Keith and have a lot of admiration for him as a player. He made it quite clear he had enjoyed playing week in and week out on loan at Ipswich and he wanted a fresh start and wanted to move on.”

It is staggering how they can keep dishing out this tripe, whilst appearing to be totally sure of its validity.
Rotten to the core.

Givet got a new contract last Summer; what like Samba? Did he get fed the same rubbish as well?
I always felt a little sorry for Andrews. He got unjustified stick from Rover's fans, a bit like MGP seems to get for some reason. He is always our most likely source of a goal, even if it is mostly from set pieces - the stats show it. Andrews may just come back to bite us on the bum today.
Of course, we haven't been able to see if most of SK's signings are better or worse than either of them because he doesn't even pick them. Oh, that answers that question then.
"Chaotic"?;Keith Andrews, master of the understatement

Oh sorry, I forgot, he was injured. So injured he walked straight into the Spurs squad and was sitting on the bench for their next game.
How many clean sheets had we managed when he limped away from Ewood Park?

I give you part of this weeks analysis - "The many sycophantic and congratulatory messages aimed towards Kean and the team after last months consecutive clean sheets / victories have been ridiculed and exposed as the vacant-headed pen-jerk non-sense most of us knew they were.
.
Easy with hindsight Jim's critics may say - not so as this was his column 2 weeks ago - whilst Kean must get credit for two wins there is an uncomfortable feeling we caught Wolves and Sunderland at the right time. Has he become a tactical genius over night? Are his dodgy signings suddenly looking good?
.
And last week he said - You could understand one team at the Reebok being affected by the weeks events. Players and manager in London for 4 days. No training and no planning and the emotional issues which can drain you. Unfortunately that team was not Rovers whom seemed most affected. All Kean had to do was tunnel vision and keep them focused on the match and yet he has the audacity to use it as an excuse.
.
I hope from memory the above was fairly accurate brief review of your columns Jim!
.
The real fear is that the Kean and Venky madness has left us with little more than 12 or 13 worthy players of premiership quality as Andy Cryer rightly covered this week and some of them are home grown youngsters being asked to do too much too early - Shame on Kean - Shame on Venkys.

A defeat against Liverpool on Tuesday night & that will probably be us doomed.
I just hope that if we are to go down, it is not away on the last day of the season at Chelsea, when everyone will just fade away & wake up next season in the Championship.
The home supporters need one home game to vent their anger on Kean & Venkies.
What an absolute tragedy this is to BRFC supporters!!

Anyone anywhere must surely find this strange.
Maybe they don't care! because thats what it says to me.
At any other club you would have the owners 'rallying' for the club and team constantly.
But not here at Ewood.
Sadder by the day.

It is obvious (or should be) to all that there is something radically wrong at BRFC, no matter how you stack it.
Only those with some unswerving belief that we will emerge from this and feel some sort of hard and fast allegance (to what?) will carry on. This though surely with a heavy heart.
I think that we may still have a season to run with Venkys yet, that means Kean also.
Could he hack it in Champs? I really have no idea.
Could we carry on 'blooding' our remaining youth? Yes why not.
Is there money to be made from this? Certainly.
