Kean: Rovers Lacked Composure in Defeat to Newcastle

With his side squandering a whole host of chances in their 2-0 defeat to visiting Newcastle, Steve Kean once again looked for the positives in his side’s defeat.

With Newcastle given few shots on goal of their own, the accuracy of the few attempts they did get was enough to undo Rovers.

Putting his side’s failure to score down to a lack of composure in the absence of the sure-fire Yakubu, Steve Kean said: “I think we had enough chances to win three games nevermind one.”

“Performance-wise I am happy but I think the chances on goal were poor. Usually we have the Yak up front who usually shows a bit more composure.”

With Anthony Modeste heading the attack with his full debut since signing on loan from Bordeaux, Kean was quick to sing the Frenchman’s praises.

He said: “I think Modeste played really well on his debut and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick. But sometimes a good performance doesn’t always lead to the win.”

18pts from 69 available...45pts to play for, it does not look good and the gap at the bottom widens every week

You will never make a football manager, EVER!
You are a born loser and a proven LIAR.
I wish you and Venky's nothing but bad luck, failure and misery, for the rest of your sad pathetic lives. Between you, you have RUINED a founder member of the football league. I hope you are proud of yourselves. I hope you all rot in hell!

Selling the club is not quite as easy as putting it on E Bay as some supporters may think, it will take time.

Modeste is POOR. Nowhere near good enough. It's like nzonzi up front, name me one lanky tall thin black striker thats good. You may say that his movement was good but we said that about grabbi and kuci. WHY did he shoot every time he went clear on goal instead of running in?

Why did it take Kean till 65 mins to pull on formica? Why did it take him till 78 mins to put Rochina on and go 4-4-2?

We were much more of a threat with a 4-4-2 setup, as always.

The financial accounts for the Rovers under the previous regime are there for everyone to read. We lost just £2million the previous season but £18million in the first six months of the Venky's ownership. Of this £13million was as a result of player trading even though we only bought TWO players for a total of £3.65million. I know which regime I would trust to run the club.

Can't understand why people are blaming Kean for last night's defeat. We absolutely dominated the game, hit the bar had one cleared off the line, missed a penalty, had a hatful of chances, and had more corners than I can remember in a long time. It would have been unfair if we had drawn that game. How Kean can be blamed is beyond me. He's doing well with what he has, and if we carry on playing like that with Yakubu back, then we may be OK.

Trying to work out if that was a serious comment or not i.e. ONE OR TWO GAMES A SEASON WERE YOU LOSE AND SHOULD HAVE WON! Can I take it that you have only been to two games this season?
I think you will find upon looking back at SK's post match comments for this season (and last) is that the majority of our games have been so.
In fact I am trying hard to recollect any game were he has said we were not at the races today and didn't deserve owt, so got nowt.
Can someone quote me any game where this was said???

By the way the 'bad luck' goal was created by us by inept schoolboy defending. So if you see a shocking pass by our player as 'bad luck' - fine.
That's how SK sees it, and that is why we are where we are.

Agree to a certain extent on not blaming Kean for the result, as we were definitely a bit unlucky but he doesn't help himself by not going for a solid 4-4-2 from the start.

Hoilett and Modeste playing together as a 'duo' was never going to work, they hardly know each other yet and Hoilett is hardly a team player is he. Modeste looked raw and nervous but has good potential once he finds his shooting boots.

Newcastle fans say they feel they were lucky to survive the Rovers onslaught on their goal and if we had a decent forward or more luck then they would have been well beaten.

But words are cheap and that still doesn't put any points on the board so we are a little deeper in the brown stuff again this morning...

Need the Yak to save us I think...he would have had three goals last night for sure!

Hang on the ref did'nt help ???

What, he should have given us 5 pens to give us a chance?

We need a striker? I thought we had the Yak? Oh sorry, that's the refs fault again.

We just need to put the ball away. Well yes that's the object of the exercise (I think).

But hang on, we've been putting the ball away (the Yak again).
Unfortunately, we can't defend. Answer - get rid of main defence and bring in some new raw recruits - maybe they could help and the bonus is they are dirt cheap.
Result: many, many defeats.

Isn't it the job of the manager to teach "composure" rather than telling his players they don't have it ?
Unlucky ? A must win home game against a good defensive outfit and Keano not only starts with only one up front but that one up front is a loan signing from Brodeaux reserves who is playing his first full game in England... and Keano expects composure !!
Without Yak, Rochina is our best finisher, but he was on the bench.
There's been a shift in mood on this site recently brought about by Keano's apologists among fellow pros, but let's face it the man simply isn't competent to run a Premeirship team.
9 home losses so far this season, that's not "unlucky" that's bad management. If we'd had nine boring 0-0 s we'd be out of the relegation zone and the fans would be happier.

Do Man U play well and lose? Dont think so our problem is the gradual reduction in class players as the Venkeys continue to get rid of or alienate our top players to save money. Sadly Kean will get the blame until he comes off his optimistic pedestal and says it as it is. If he was to come out and say there is no money and he was accordingly unableto buy the players he wanted then and only then would he be believed. I dont think it is his fault but he has got to start telling the facts as they really are. FRankly it was a mistake not to sell Samba and buy that solid defensive midfielder that we missed so badly last night. It now looks sadly that we are now down as last night was a game we had to win. Next two games will confirm our fate.

Oh by the way - yes I agree. Don't for gods sake pillory a rookie player who is in his first full game with players and method he is unfamiliar with in a pressure cooker of a situation and a goon at the helm.
Despite his dire attempts, which I would like to se as lack of composure, not total inability.
Some of his play was really quite good; touch, movement, strength, willingness. This form a Frenchman only a fringe player in their league.
Time will tell though.
Problem is we haven't got the time, that has already been squandered.

Fellow Blues - you have been fooled into taking the focus away from KEAN!
.
Kean is not only a very bad manager but also an unlucky one as well - A FATAL COMBINATION.
.
He has signed 19 players now.
.
He has the biggest player WAGE BILL at his disposal in Blackburn Rovers history.
.
We have 9 Defeats (YES NINE) in 12 home games.
.
He is the worst manager in BRFC history.
.
He has given weird explanations about players not least Nelsen.
.
We can still change the manager outside the transfer window.
.
It does not matter whether Venkys listen anymore - the fans need to air their views in public so the truth is known.
.
We need to turn on him again inside Ewood at large volume - being camotose has achieved nothing.
.
Perhaps one game between now and the seasons end we need a mass throwing of season tickets onto the pitch at a given time - 75th min followed by a walk out?
.
KEAN OUT! Venkys - sack him or sell!

Well what exactly are you hoping to achieve then, Morst? They aren't listening, that is clear, and they are not going to start listening. All you can achieve then is to make the atmosphere worse and contribute to the Rover's demise. There is no positive effect of protesting inside the ground, only negative effects. How can any true fan want to make matters worse than they already are. I recommend you and anyone who shares your views to throw your season tickets onto the pitch at the next game and then do one.

He has signed 19 players now.

He has the biggest player WAGE BILL at his disposal in Blackburn Rovers history.

We have 9 Defeats (YES NINE) in 12 home games.

He is the worst manager in BRFC history.

He has given weird explanations about players not least Nelsen.

The down fall of rovers has been due to kean and venky lies and deceit the protesters were not even around when it was going pear shaped at ewood and if they are not listening why do venkys refuse to come back to Blackburn and why is LT having to close the comments on rovers sports comments site. The atmosphere is dictated by the succsess of the team on the pitch at the end of the day and lets be honest it been pretty **** all season points wise thats why were still in the bottom three. Venkys alone have caused the demise from day one they took control.Stop blaming the fans, protesters as i have said before better to have done something than do nothing at all

Comparing the fight to get rid of Kean to the war against Hitler is tasteless at best. Talk about losing all perspective. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I thought we played well. The ref didn't help though. We need a striker & we need to let someone else take the set pieces. Good game to watch, robbo was left doing nothing for large amounts of the game and we attacked well. Just need to put the ball away.

Very well put and true

Well that's exactly my point. Its NOT better to do something if all you are doing is damaging our chances of survival. Our players have said it is difficult to play in that atmosphere. Opposing players have said it makes their job easier when the home fans create that atmosphere, but you, in your infinite wisdom, claim that it is only a good thing.

Venkys aren't listening, or if they are, they are simply ignoring the protests, so continued protest is not going to change anything.

Here's an analogy. I don't know what your favorite program is, but lets for the sake of argument say it's the teletubbies. I can stand here in Norway and protest all I want about you watching the teletubbies, but I don't suppose it's going to make the blindest bit of difference to you. You bought the TV, and if you want to watch the teletubbies then **** it you'll watch it. I can scream until I'm blue in the face, I can start an internet campaign, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to make any difference to you. It's the same with Venkys; they bought the club, and they can do what they want with it. That unfortunately is the way the world works, and unless you're even richer there's nowt you can do about it. As a fan, all you can hope for is that they do right by the club, and continue to support the team through the bad times.

I can understand your anger, but it's focussed on the wrong target. The buck stops with Venkys, and protesting at Ewood is having no positive effect, only a negative effect on the team. If you want an effective protest, you're going to have to take it to India.

Why did it take Kean till 65 mins to pull on formica? Why did it take him till 78 mins to put Rochina on and go 4-4-2?

We were much more of a threat with a 4-4-2 setup, as always.

Outstanding, eyes wide open, kean is the darthvader of PL managers, there has been a dark cloud following this guy, ever since he took over as manager its been one bad **** up one after another, problems with the law, kean and players, and now the directors of this club due in court, shocking running of a once famous PL club. Venkys, kean have dragged and shamed the once good name of Blackburn and their fans and BRFC through the gutter, not a hint of an apology and an apology is needed for what they have done. The constant problems with experienced players leaving or wanting to leave, lie after lie not just to the fans but players to.sorry to say this but there is a rotten stench deep within BRFC now and its dragging rovers down to a bottomless pit that will result in BRFC being relegated and left to dwindle in the lower leagues for a very long time, if not for good,if you really love BRFC and all it stand far then there is one thing you must not do and that is listen to some on here who seem to be desperate, hellbent on getting you to do nothing, to sit by and do nothing,to accept that this is how it is and there is nothing you can do to change venkys, they are doing no more than being a mouth piece for the venky order,Protest in and out and were ever else that will shake the arrogance from kean and venkys it is your right to and it is in every true rovers fan to fight against this shocking manager and directors who are as one, they pat each other on the back on the TV and in the press , they tell each other how brilliant, Honest and good they are , they are together in all that has been happening to our club.Protest till they have gone it is the right thing to do, it is the morale thing to do.Better to do something than nothing surley?

MikeD Please read my comments, you are focussed on doing nothing thats your choice and your opinion but for the majority of us rovers fans we dont agree with you so we will continue to protest in any form we feel fit to. As you know being the majority in this country does make the difference and it bonds us together to be stronger willed and we will overcome, were in it for the long haul you see, so your thoughts and opinions dont affect us at all. Now if its teletubies you want to talk about i will have to get my little daughter she watches all their programmes and can connect with your mind thought better. The protests by the way have been few but very orderly and relaxed not the screaming skull type you seem to think and FACT kean has stated him self many many times now in the papers and in the tv press that the protests do not affect the players at all, that his players are first class professionals and are trained to perform under extreme crowd disruptions home and away so we all disagree with you that it is affecting the players. Pitty you havent been on any protests they are well organised and within the law of this country The protests by the way are having an effect, keans attitude for one thing has certainly changed to wards the protesters now he now accepts that it is 99% against him and not the 1% so he is listening isnt he, Venkys wont come to blackburn because of the protests so they are listening to and the protests have brought to the attention of the world press and to the barclay bank and PL who are now watching venkys financial and business interests involving rovers, once again it is the protests that have kept these issues in the eye of the press and tv so the protests are working. You see you and some others tend to think its all about getting kean out and venkys out right now we know it will take time rome wasnt built in a day but we know its long term protesting so we are slowly gaining the upper hand and here is the big gun thanks to protesters Venkys are all ready looking to off load BRFC they know they have been found out and what they have caused is now irreparable and are now trying to get out of this nightmare which by the way is self inflicted so on the hole i would say protesting is certainly having a big effect, even on finances due to protest fans not buying rovers products, tickets sales down several thousand last game alone etc they are at there worst in years venkys are loosing big time all due to protests ,they are suffering hence the lack of money Funds from BRFC, i would say that is a realpossitive effect on venkys and kean he does get a % of any profits or sell on transfers

Of course we lacked composure in defence. Samba was sitting at home sulking and Nelsen was on the way to Spurs.
What do Rovers management expect when they are constantly exploring more ways to devalue the squad.
Most teams get rid of Prem grade players AFTER relegation, not before.
