Blackburn Rovers have confirmed in a statement that Ryan Nelsen was released from his contract at the club last night.
Nelsen is now a free agent and will complete a deal to join Tottenham Hotspur after agreeing a six-month contract with the option for a further year.
The Rovers statement said: "Blackburn Rovers can confirm that club captain Ryan Nelsen was released last night after the player and club agreed the termination of the New Zealand defender's contract."

Just a guess though!

Absolute top pro, top gentleman and top player for this club. Thank you for all your efforts Ryan, you have made a huge difference with your contribution.
I do, however, feel that the time is right for Ryan to seek a new challenge as we can't keep injury prone players on what is a shrinking wage bill. I have no issue with that, in theory, just hope he got the praise he deserved when he left.
3 points tonight, onwards and upwards!

I think the club statement was poor.
How about:
Rovers and Ryan Nelsen have agreed to terminate his contract in order for him to take the opportunity to finish his career at Tottenham Hotspur. Ryan has brought credit to himself and the club. He always showed commitment and a professional attitude. We would like to thank him and wish him well in the future. He will always be welcome at Ewood.

blimey Iiii1111, all this beautiful football you used to crave has changed you! :) . Your post above is quite logical and makes sense! . The more astute amongst us will remember that Redknapp tried desperately to sign Nelsen for Portsmouth a few years ago and has always been a fan. (Brad probably did give a positive recommendation though)

Can see th logic in this.....Nelsen is obliviously going to be bacup cover for the likes of King, Dawson,Gallas similar to Saha being cover up front.....a risk worth taking with Spurs in the mix.......think about it...who's Spurs's keeper? Played together for over 200 games with a great understanding.....Br
