Your memories of Blackburn Rovers' Premier League title triumph
TODAY is exactly 15 years since the unforgettable day when Blackburn Rovers claimed the Premier League title.
The world of football was turned upside down as the once unfashionable Second Division club toppled the mighty Manchester United to win English football's biggest prize.
Rovers lost 2-1 at Liverpool with the last kick in the last game of the season, but with United failing to beat West Ham, it was Tim Sherwood who lifted the trophy.
What are your memories of May 14, 1995? Were you at Anfield celebrating or following the drama glued to the radio at home?
Click on the links below for parts 1 to 4 of the Jason Wilcox series on Rovers' rise to the 1995 title.

Still one of only four teams ever to win it. City, Villa, Spurs, Everton Leeds, Newcastle : all never won it.
As for Burnley : relegation from the old Division 1. Some things never change.

Ferguson before the match accusing teams of lacking bottle and a sharp riposte from Flowers in the aftermatch interview of " Who lacks bottle now?".
Saw the game live on Sky and Flowers performance that night was one of the finest Ive ever seen by a keeper, on a par in its own way with Banks for England against Brazil in the Mexico World Cup Finals in 1970.
Still never mind , Burnley have always got Brian Jensen and his 84 goals conceded.

We thought we were gonna win it. The Redknapp goal was a terrible moment-we'd lost the title! Me and my daughter were close to tears.
.
While we were trying to console each other, the big butch scouse bird sat next to me, took hold of me and said "you've won it". They celebrated almost as much as us.
.
The Liverpool fans were absolutely beyond comparison that day.
.
They saluted King Kenny, BRFC and MUFC not winning the title. A special moment, a special place to be. Other than Ewood, it was the perfect venue to receive the trophy.
.
The journey back was surreal, there seemed to be blue and white everywhere. We came of the M6 at Leyland, through Brindle, blue n white flags and the occasional V sign from Mancs(?).
.
The greeting at the roundabout at the Fielden Arms will live with me 4ever. We were met like conquering heroes, having to negotiate turning toward Darwen, there were so many people dancing in the street.
.
Got back to Darwen and it was the same, people people everywhere. Radio Lancs said 'don't go to the Ewood triangle cos you can't get through!'
.
I took 2 days off work to recover and I wasn't even drinking at the time. I just sat in the garden saying 'I can't believe it'. Still can't. LOL!

Watching the video now is nothing like how it was at Anfield...from Redknapp scoring to our title win being confirmed honestly felt like a 5 minute gap, but in reality it was seconds...none of us in the ground knew what was going on. I have never experienced such a wide range of emotions in such a short space of time!
Will probably never happen again to any town club, but it can never be taken away!

The fans on the journey out of Blackbun stood in their front gardens waving anything blue and white
The welcome and best wishes from the scousers in the pubs
The trauma of the game... I sunk to my knees when Rednap put away that free kick... how gutted I felt.. Then another Rovers fan dragging me to my feet shouting 'we've done it' everyone going mad and not quite sure if it was for real.
The celebratiions round Anfield and the journey back where everyone was out from miles away waving us back like some sort of returning army from a battle.
I got off the coach when we got back to Ewood to soak up the atmosphere. Just strolled around taking in how happy everyone was. I half knew it would never happen again and I didnt want to waste of second of it. I didnt need a beer to celebrate that night... just watching everyone dancing and singing and giving thanks to the man that made it all possible.... uncle-jack.
(god bless him).
I had travelled via land and sea and hitched hicked from Newcastle to get home for the match from Oslo.
It was one of the greatest days of my life and made those wet Tuesday nights when we twagged school to get on a cold and half empty ribble bus to travel away to Hartlepool or some such place ... get run around town and beaten up just to watch us lose and go to the bottom of the 3rd division seem all worthwhile; what a great journey to winning the Premier League title... I wouldnt have missed a moment or changed a result ....that somehow made it all the sweeter...I never doubted we would be the Champions one day... not quite sure why but I am glad I kept the faith.
God bless Jack Walker and I thank him for making it all possible.

There was excitement when West Ham scored, and of course when we did too but all of that was lost when Redknapp scored.
I remember a bloke with a radio in our end was being watched by about 1000 people, who had their backs to the game in the dying seconds waiting for the whistle to go at Upton Park.
When it did, it was like a Mexican wave all over the ground and I pulled my dad to his feet, and onto his chair - we were champions!
We watched the cup being raised and carried around the ground and it was an amazing time - I wish I could remember it more clearly.
Then we walked back to the car and toffee fans were talking about how they would also beat Man U in the FA Cup for following Saturday - they were right, as they won 1-0!
I can still remember the giant flag outside the Fieldens Arms covering the road and cars driving under it along Preston Old Road.
I also didn't need a beer once I got back to Blackburn. I was already drunk with the events of the day.
I'll never forget it.
THANKS UNCLE JACK.

to get to front of queue to be told no more tickets.Found out later several friends- who hadn't been away all season, sat at home and got tickets over the phone (I'd been to all but 5).Typical ticket office at that time. All that couldn't couldn't take away from the magic of the day. Especially going down to Ewood and standing in middle of Bolton Road waving flags and cheering. Ecstatic-the best day of my Rovers supporting life-after so many lows- starting from my first ever game- the last game in division 1- 1966! I was so proud taking on the establishment (including the press)and beating them at their own game.

The channel showing constant updates from Upton Park, where a mixture of Andy Cole's misfiring and Ludek Miklosko's goalkeeping clinic kept Man Utd behind us, but a feeling of inevitability that they would go one up sooner or later.
The nervousness every time the little box flicked up in the bottom corner of the screen to show the black shirts of Utd flooding towards the West Ham goal for the fifth time in a minute...
At Anfield, Big Al puts us one-up from a Ripley cross and we're on for the title. Liverpool equalise before Redknapp's free-kick late on seals defeat for us and the now immortal words of one mate's dad: "We've bloody blown it".
Within 30 seconds or so, we see the players and the Rovers staff celebrating and it's apparent we've done it!
Jack's tears, Sherwood lifting the trophy, SAS embracing, Batty's cut-off collar, Timmy Flowers' weird little goatee, the players singing 'Are You Watching Manchester?', the shower champaign scene, the Liverpool fans appreciating Rovers as if we were close cousins.
Memories that you cannot buy and cannot replicate - anyone who was around to experience this day ten years ago will know that they went through a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As for the VE Day - I used to live close to the Ewood area, so when I was too young to be regular at matches, I used to either watch on the hill or through the metal gates with my mates.
On this night, as we walked past the Darwen End just after kick-off, a police officer asked me and my mate if we fancied going in to watch.
The only snag would be that we'd be in the Darwen End with the Newcastle fans...
Can't imagine that happening today - putting two 12-year-olds in with a load of opposition fans for a big match!
Luckily we were wearing jumpers covering our Rovers shirts and as such went unnoticed.
But the hardest thing was trying not to celebrate like a nutter when Big Al rose to meet Le-Saux's cross to score the winning goal!

That is probably the total number of 'supporters' that bothered watching the game or those that still have an interest in the club now they are no longer 'champions'.
.
Take the story down and replace it with something more interesting like a dust museum.

Evidently no one is interested in the 'Glory Days' of the Rovers apart from a few nostalgia victims trying to cling on to the past.

When Burnley deservedly won the title in 1960 there was a much more even playing field with teams such as Ipswich, Wolves, Derby County and Everton becoming title winners.
The fact that Blackburn Rovers did win the title by competing with the likes of the two Manchester clubs and London's Arsenal and Chelsea, who really have spent their way to the top, is something to be proud of.
Regrettably it will never happen again. What I now find so depressing is while I reject the puerile notion that Blackburn bought the title, events of recent years appear to support the notion that instead we have bought our way to mediocrity. Bad signings and inept management are the recipe on which our failure is based. It wasn't like that in the early 1990's.
