Your memories of Blackburn Rovers' Premier League title triumph

Your memories of Blackburn Rovers' Premier League title triumph Your memories of Blackburn Rovers' Premier League title triumph

TODAY is exactly 15 years since the unforgettable day when Blackburn Rovers claimed the Premier League title.

The world of football was turned upside down as the once unfashionable Second Division club toppled the mighty Manchester United to win English football's biggest prize.

Rovers lost 2-1 at Liverpool with the last kick in the last game of the season, but with United failing to beat West Ham, it was Tim Sherwood who lifted the trophy.

What are your memories of May 14, 1995? Were you at Anfield celebrating or following the drama glued to the radio at home?

Click on the links below for parts 1 to 4 of the Jason Wilcox series on Rovers' rise to the 1995 title.

The silence of the expat Man Utd fans as me and my mate celebrated in the Robin Hood pub in Bermuda. And to still be able to say to Liverpool fans when they get cocky "At least we have won the Premier League".

Remember it well : amazing scenes at Anfield with Kenny winning it at his spirtual home and everyone drenched in champagne. Shearer sticks in the mind but also le Saux, Newell , Hendry, Berg , Flowers. All great players.
Still one of only four teams ever to win it. City, Villa, Spurs, Everton Leeds, Newcastle : all never won it.

As for Burnley : relegation from the old Division 1. Some things never change.

The Newcastle match, the match that won the league in my opinion. My one regret is that we didn't secure the league on that night, the atmosphere was electric.

One man stood head and shoulders above the rest that season - Colin Hendry.

What a colossus, what a frigging legend.

Yes thats right.
Ferguson before the match accusing teams of lacking bottle and a sharp riposte from Flowers in the aftermatch interview of " Who lacks bottle now?".
Saw the game live on Sky and Flowers performance that night was one of the finest Ive ever seen by a keeper, on a par in its own way with Banks for England against Brazil in the Mexico World Cup Finals in 1970.

Still never mind , Burnley have always got Brian Jensen and his 84 goals conceded.

I was only 10 when we won the league. But i remember like it was yesterday the scenes around the ground. I'll admit that I didnt follow football before this day. That changed me forever and what a rollercoaster ride I've been on with Rovers for 15 years! League champions, relegation, promotion and a league cup trophy later.....so many great times. We are a club with great history and one to be proud of!

I was at a friend's house, watching TV, as our husbands had bagged the two tickets we'd managed to get. She couldn't stand the tension and went for a walk. I remember breaking down in tears when Redknapp scored, I'd lost it. But then I realised Kenny Dalglish was being hugged and we'd actually won it! Magic!!

I remember the scene on tv at the end of the match with a Rovers' fan looking around at his mates thinking we haven't won the league. Then he realised we had and his expression was priceless.

I remember the kop staying as one after the match had ended to salute rovers winning the league. the noise was deafening a tremendous act of sportsmanship from the best fans in the country. they view king kenny as one of their own and to see him lift the title there meant a lot to them. i had a pint in a liverpool local after n the atmosphere will stay with me for a long time ...........

We had tickets in the Centenary Stand at Anfield, my scouse mate had secured 'em cos I wasn't certain of getting a ticket via Rovers sources. I was there with my 15yr old daughter. Ronnie Clayton was in a box behind us.
.
We thought we were gonna win it. The Redknapp goal was a terrible moment-we'd lost the title! Me and my daughter were close to tears.
.
While we were trying to console each other, the big butch scouse bird sat next to me, took hold of me and said "you've won it". They celebrated almost as much as us.
.
The Liverpool fans were absolutely beyond comparison that day.
.
They saluted King Kenny, BRFC and MUFC not winning the title. A special moment, a special place to be. Other than Ewood, it was the perfect venue to receive the trophy.
.
The journey back was surreal, there seemed to be blue and white everywhere. We came of the M6 at Leyland, through Brindle, blue n white flags and the occasional V sign from Mancs(?).
.
The greeting at the roundabout at the Fielden Arms will live with me 4ever. We were met like conquering heroes, having to negotiate turning toward Darwen, there were so many people dancing in the street.
.
Got back to Darwen and it was the same, people people everywhere. Radio Lancs said 'don't go to the Ewood triangle cos you can't get through!'
.
I took 2 days off work to recover and I wasn't even drinking at the time. I just sat in the garden saying 'I can't believe it'. Still can't. LOL!

Priceless. a dingle comes on here leaving a comment about Blackburn winning the Premier league. every team that as won it as pumped millions of pounds into their team on player ect. Man u, Chelsea, Asenal examples. we were lucky enough to have a man who loved football and his club. yes we spent money on improving our ground and team. if you peasants had someone who loved your club you would have done the same. So we won the league, you did not and never will. we beat you twice in one season. we finished in a respectible postion, you got relegated haah. remember, blackburn Rovers always will be bigger and better. good luck next season

I went on a coach from the station hotel that day, dont remember too much about the actual game apart from going from total dispair to absolute extasy in a matter of seconds,I was with some big tough guys that day and we were all in tears like little girls, had a few beers in a pub in Liverpool after, I think it was called St Hilda's and all the scouse guys were made up for us,the drive back into Blackburn took forever and the crowds were unbelievable, last memory was sitting in the Bee Hive which was at the time and I think still is run by a Man U fan at four in the morning singing along to we are the champions on the jukebox, best day ever

the main bit i seem to remember from that match apaprt from shearer heading the goal is in the second half a cross from the right and think it was Beresford from newcastle slid in and flowers managed to get his left hand onto the ball and as it squirmed towards the goal Big Col popped up and hoofed it clear just in time, dont know why but thats the bit i always remember from that game... the anfield game is abit of a blur to me really maybe the occasion got to me that day

I was down in a little village called Henfield in Sussex and could not find a pub that had Sky I had just about given up when I come across a pub that had a banner up stating 'Sky Sports'. I went inside and spoke to the barman (I quickly realised he was the owner) only to find out he was closing. I explained that I was a Rovers supporter and could not find anywhere to watch the match. He then said to me to take a seat, he put Sky sports on, said to me to help myself to a drink if wanted one and then went upstairs. I could not believe it. This guy 'did not know me from Adam' and yet here he was opening up his pub, tv and bar to a total stranger. We won, he came downstairs, said well done mate, I thanked him for his hospitality and I left.

My only conclusion is that he must have been a Man-ure hater lol

Great memory, otherwise I would not have seen the events that unfolded that day and admittedly on tv.

Most unbelievable day in football ever, our small town club becoming the undisputed greatest side in the land!

Watching the video now is nothing like how it was at Anfield...from Redknapp scoring to our title win being confirmed honestly felt like a 5 minute gap, but in reality it was seconds...none of us in the ground knew what was going on. I have never experienced such a wide range of emotions in such a short space of time!

Will probably never happen again to any town club, but it can never be taken away!

I remember the feeling of nervousness and optimism as we travelled on the coaches to Liverpool.
The fans on the journey out of Blackbun stood in their front gardens waving anything blue and white
The welcome and best wishes from the scousers in the pubs
The trauma of the game... I sunk to my knees when Rednap put away that free kick... how gutted I felt.. Then another Rovers fan dragging me to my feet shouting 'we've done it' everyone going mad and not quite sure if it was for real.
The celebratiions round Anfield and the journey back where everyone was out from miles away waving us back like some sort of returning army from a battle.

I got off the coach when we got back to Ewood to soak up the atmosphere. Just strolled around taking in how happy everyone was. I half knew it would never happen again and I didnt want to waste of second of it. I didnt need a beer to celebrate that night... just watching everyone dancing and singing and giving thanks to the man that made it all possible.... uncle-jack.
(god bless him).
I had travelled via land and sea and hitched hicked from Newcastle to get home for the match from Oslo.

It was one of the greatest days of my life and made those wet Tuesday nights when we twagged school to get on a cold and half empty ribble bus to travel away to Hartlepool or some such place ... get run around town and beaten up just to watch us lose and go to the bottom of the 3rd division seem all worthwhile; what a great journey to winning the Premier League title... I wouldnt have missed a moment or changed a result ....that somehow made it all the sweeter...I never doubted we would be the Champions one day... not quite sure why but I am glad I kept the faith.

God bless Jack Walker and I thank him for making it all possible.

I travelled down from Newcastle on a train full of Liverpool fans. I remember it well. I was sick with nerves and a little hung over but met my dad and we went on the ground. I can still remember communicating with the scouse fans in the ground who had radios, giving us score updates.

There was excitement when West Ham scored, and of course when we did too but all of that was lost when Redknapp scored.

I remember a bloke with a radio in our end was being watched by about 1000 people, who had their backs to the game in the dying seconds waiting for the whistle to go at Upton Park.

When it did, it was like a Mexican wave all over the ground and I pulled my dad to his feet, and onto his chair - we were champions!

We watched the cup being raised and carried around the ground and it was an amazing time - I wish I could remember it more clearly.

Then we walked back to the car and toffee fans were talking about how they would also beat Man U in the FA Cup for following Saturday - they were right, as they won 1-0!

I can still remember the giant flag outside the Fieldens Arms covering the road and cars driving under it along Preston Old Road.

I also didn't need a beer once I got back to Blackburn. I was already drunk with the events of the day.

I'll never forget it.

THANKS UNCLE JACK.

Remember queuing up for hours+++
to get to front of queue to be told no more tickets.Found out later several friends- who hadn't been away all season, sat at home and got tickets over the phone (I'd been to all but 5).Typical ticket office at that time. All that couldn't couldn't take away from the magic of the day. Especially going down to Ewood and standing in middle of Bolton Road waving flags and cheering. Ecstatic-the best day of my Rovers supporting life-after so many lows- starting from my first ever game- the last game in division 1- 1966! I was so proud taking on the establishment (including the press)and beating them at their own game.

Getting promotion in 1975 and that magical 5-2 victory against Plymouth, the regular Turf Moor invasions even though they won't admit to it.Going down to Wembley and bringing home the full members cup after totally out numbering the Charlton support in their own city.Season after season of Play off defeats ,taking a two goal lead down to Selhurst only to get beat 3-0 after Wright and Bright ripped us apart was particularly hard to stomach. Then Jack bought the club and things took a dramatic turn for the better.Beating Leicester, again at Wembley in the Play off final. That mad day and night at Anfield to become English Champions for the thid time, followed by that even crazier night in Moscow. League cup winners for the first time.Good FA cup runs to semi finals but no recent Final appearances victories yet to add to the old six .To Premiership home and away victories against Burnley to give us our longest run in the top flight for years. To buying three new season tickets in the Darwen End yesterday, hoping to help the club break through the 20,000 sales barrier for the first time in our small but proud club's history. What a journey and long may it continue.Rovers til i die.

I remember watching the final game of the season at my friend's house, a load of us 12-year-olds huddled around the television in the only house that had Sky Sports.

The channel showing constant updates from Upton Park, where a mixture of Andy Cole's misfiring and Ludek Miklosko's goalkeeping clinic kept Man Utd behind us, but a feeling of inevitability that they would go one up sooner or later.
The nervousness every time the little box flicked up in the bottom corner of the screen to show the black shirts of Utd flooding towards the West Ham goal for the fifth time in a minute...

At Anfield, Big Al puts us one-up from a Ripley cross and we're on for the title. Liverpool equalise before Redknapp's free-kick late on seals defeat for us and the now immortal words of one mate's dad: "We've bloody blown it".
Within 30 seconds or so, we see the players and the Rovers staff celebrating and it's apparent we've done it!

Jack's tears, Sherwood lifting the trophy, SAS embracing, Batty's cut-off collar, Timmy Flowers' weird little goatee, the players singing 'Are You Watching Manchester?', the shower champaign scene, the Liverpool fans appreciating Rovers as if we were close cousins.
Memories that you cannot buy and cannot replicate - anyone who was around to experience this day ten years ago will know that they went through a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

As for the VE Day - I used to live close to the Ewood area, so when I was too young to be regular at matches, I used to either watch on the hill or through the metal gates with my mates.
On this night, as we walked past the Darwen End just after kick-off, a police officer asked me and my mate if we fancied going in to watch.
The only snag would be that we'd be in the Darwen End with the Newcastle fans...

Can't imagine that happening today - putting two 12-year-olds in with a load of opposition fans for a big match!
Luckily we were wearing jumpers covering our Rovers shirts and as such went unnoticed.
But the hardest thing was trying not to celebrate like a nutter when Big Al rose to meet Le-Saux's cross to score the winning goal!

This story has been on here for three days now and has only got 30 comments.
.
That is probably the total number of 'supporters' that bothered watching the game or those that still have an interest in the club now they are no longer 'champions'.
.
Take the story down and replace it with something more interesting like a dust museum.
