No, Venkys are just lowering the wage bill.The weather's certainly better in Cyprus.
I reckon Vuxie wasn't that bad but never got a long enough run out.

Maybe if we ever gave this guy a run of games in his preferred position, centre midfield, we might know if he could play or not.

Which central midfielders do we have left? Three veterans in Murphy, Etuhu and Dunn, plus Jason Lowe.

All these exits with seemingly few replacements are worrying.

We aint getting promotion, teamsare better than us. I've had to come to terms with this.

I think outgoings are good if we are able to bring in one or two players that will push for a first team place. If we end up getting rid of Vukcevic, Formica and Rosado, for example, we need to bring at least one player in that is a genuine first team week-in, week-out player and who will improve the current team, otherwise the outgoings will only weaken us.

Kazim-Richards on a permanent deal would be a good start.

Green screener he can most definately play, I saw him a few times playing for Sporting in 2009 working in Portugal, he is the best attacking midfielder at the club in my opinion, He has never been given a chance and I can't understand why, It's the story of our season to leave out our best players Vuckevic, Givet, Pederson, Gomes, Dunn, and use inferior ones, Murphy, Richards, Dann, Etuhu, Lowe.

This is bad news, he had so much potential and like Formica he is being overlooked without a second thought. How managers and club officials are choosing old injury prone players over the ones with potential is beyond me. I can only assume that they are being given loan moves so that when we dont get promoted and have to get rid of dunn and murphy and etuhu that formica and simon will have had some decent playing time. If they were of no use then surely like Rosado they would be sold.

And I thought I was a pessimist! Lot of ups and downs still to come.

BAD MOVE - One of the best players at the club, never given a chance by managers who didn't knw what they were doing as proven by their record.

Good to see some of dead-wood getting shipped out, vukcevic simply hasn't been good enough with far to many other players over the past few season

why do we still have all the portugal guys? they dont play but get paid , i agree we must lower the wage bill so again i ask why do we still have them?

I think we are still to see the best of Etuhu. He certainly isn't a veteran as he is only 30. He played 5 years of prem footie before he joined us, so he has the experience and can still do well for us if MA can get him focused.
Lowe is just going to get better and better and Murphy is improving each game and showing why we bought him. Plus we have Rochina and even Peds who can both play from the middle. Dunny is finished though - so yes we do need one more decent midfielder in the squad for sure.

Another player who wasn't given enough game time and who was continuously played out of position when he did get on the pitch. Vukcevic is an attacking central midfielder, I think he played there once, possibly twice. I'm guessing that, along with Formica and Diogo Rosado, he's one of the excess #10 players Appleton says we have at the club. I hope that all these departures aren't just to balance the squad out but also subsidise the wages of a decent right winger. Bentley perhaps...

excellent interview with ryan nelsen on radio lancs tonight - spoke, with what seemed, genuine affection for his time at ewood.

makes you remember we have had some great players over the years and it wasn't just the 92-95 teams.

nelsen always gave 100% even when he was having an off day and carried himself with great diginity (as did tugay, brad and salgado).

personally, i would put nelsen in my top five favourite rovers players (btw - favourite - does not necessarily mean best)

Got to agree, at least Vuecky can play on the right if needed so why are we getting shut when we are lacking down the right. We are overloaded with left hand side players. I'd keep Veuky and ship out Etuhu, Dunn and one of the olssons

On reflection got to take j.lo out of that as we need his engine, he gets about the pitch and can cover at full back. He'll be good for us as long as we don't expect him to be gazza or tugay!

I also think this may be a mistake. Contrary to what AC is now twittering Simon has never been given a run of games and those he has been given the odd 20mins he HAS made an impact - perhaps not the explosive Messi style AC is possibly referring to but real fans notice the quality and composure he showed ahead of others in his position. This has got to be about wages and it stinks because this guy should be starting a few games or given a chance - I thought everyone had a clean slate under MA. Looks like Simon is another victim... this is a shame.

Phoenix I agree with you about S V - the guy has quality - was he consistent enough or maybe just unlike Murphy Etuhu he never got the run of games to produce what he is capable of. To compare him to Markus Olsen is a laugh - he never had the same pace but he could see a pass and defending back was probably the best midfielder at defence.

Good luck to him be interesting to see when he plays against the mighty England then AC may learn a thing of two about football

I know Cryer's job is as a sports reporter, and that he has access to staff and players at the club, but it doesn't mean that his opinion is always the right one. He says that Vukcevic is behind Martin Olsson, Rochina and even Josh Morris with regards to the pecking order. Olsson is a left winger, Morris is a left midfielder-****-left back and Rochina is a support striker. Vukcevic is an attacking central midfielder so he shouldn't even be competing with any of these players for a starting spot. Virtually everyone that's discussed Vukcevic with Cryer has said he's quality but he's having none of it. I'm sorry but if he can't see, from what limited game time Vukcevic has had, how good he's played then he's obviously in the wrong job. I dare say Cryer will cite Vukcevic's exclusion under a succession of managers as justification for his views but I'd argue that those managers didn't play him in his natural position, but even then he outshone most of his teammates when he was on the park.

It feels again like the priority is cost cutting and not quality. Get rid of deadwood by all means but not the better players. There a worse in the midfield. Vucevic is a decent player just never been given a long enough run and not even a chance under idiot kean

I've had another think about it and come to this conclusion.
This is a horrendous decision, this lad is in and around the first team, what about shipping out those who aren't instead. Formica was the same, there are loads of portugese mincers to offload first.
This looks like a continuation of last season. Get rid of the better players on big money and keep the cheapies. I hope they know what they are doing as Kean learnt, you have to be able to spot a decent player first before you get rid of a high earner, otherwise you get relegated.

For goodness sake there are people on here bemoaning the loss of Diogo Rosado who have never seen him play! those of us that go to Ewood have only seen him a couple of times, he is not up to the English game , ditto for Formica, the rest of the Portuguese squad bar Gomes and Nunes and not forgetting Vukcevic
Appleton is rebuilding the squad as best he can and as he sees fit,and it is too much for the Negative agenda boy(s)
Fact is that Vukcevic's appearances have been limited by injury as well as not showing enough when he has played . I quite like him but he is not going to make it over here, better not to keep playing the sympathy card for failed players

Vukcevic is not a centre mid - he's another one of our "11 number 10s". He plays in the hole and is less effective than our other forward options. When he has played in CM he has been very ineffective and poor defensively.

I do feel for the guy, because he isn't a bad player and I think he has potential, but we need the wages for players who can make an impact right now not in two years time. Maybe a loan and then see how he is come pre-season would be a good idea.

Also, glad to see the back of Formica - again, not a bad player... but not good enough. I classed him as a pretty dull player really, without the necessary forward impetus to really be a useful attacking force. He plays 'slow' football rather than the fast play that we need to do well in the Championship/Premier
ship. He'd be ok in Spain or Portugal.

Just need to dump those Portugese now and maybe we'll have some wages available to actually sign some useful players who will make a difference.

Just been on the sky sports website and looked at the completed deals done today and it says vukevic has been released by rovers.I though he had gone on loan !!
