Bowyer expects return to Blackburn Rovers reserve team role
11:43pm Friday 11th January 2013 in News
GARY Bowyer says he expects to return to his previous role as reserve team boss after signing off as Blackburn Rovers caretaker manager with a 1-1 draw at Wolves tonight.
Bowyer stepped up from his role with the reserves to take charge of the first team following Henning Berg's dismissal, winning three and drawing one of his four games at the helm.
But Rovers appointed Michael Appleton as their new manager hours before tonight's game with Wolves and Bowyer says unless told otherwise he expects to return to his work with the second string.
"I will pick that up with Michael," he said.
"But until I'm told any different, then I'll be back as reserve team coach on Monday."
And Bowyer was proud of his side's performance at Molineux, when Roger Johnson's leveller gave Wolves a point after Rovers had led through Jordan Rhodes' penalty.
"It was a fully deserved point," he said.
"That is a big point in this season.
"The fighting qualities we showed were brilliant. The character of the players was first class.
"Wolves pumped balls into the box and we defended very well - all bar one."

Well done to GB and his team. I didn't think there were any decent people left down there. You should be proud of yourselves, because we are.

the only worry i have is that they have done such a good job it wont be long before some teams come sniffing around them. I wouldn't blame them if they left because they have been treated so poorly by the board.
cant blame MA for the predicament that we find ourselves in. I hope that he keeps the momentum going and we start climbing the table quickly.the pressure will be on as team GB has shown that the team is capable of winning and playing well.

Anything less than Bowyer returning to his original role if that is what he wants would be an absolute disgrace. He has done a fantastic job to get 7 points from 9 and demonstrate that bu putting the right people on the park in the right positions with the right tactics we can both score and defend to win games. I am 100% behind Appleton because he is the Rovers manager and will judge him on results but although this is predominantly a poor quality Kean squad Bowyer has proven that they can get results at a championship level. I truly hope Appleton succeeds but would like the reassurance of Bowyer still at the club as a Tony Parkes type safety net if he doesn't. The icing on the cake, other than a big Palace win on Saturday would be for a certain global advisor to return to his previous role.

Hendry went bankrupt owing H.Walker 150k ,that is FACT , Coar organised a job at Rovers so he could pay the needy H. Walker , the RICH PEOPLE always get paid back , bankrupt or not.
Anyway whether Hendry has a proper job or not at Rovers he will stay on the payroll even if it means Bowyer and McPhillips being kicked out , MY GUESS is they will make up some sort of new title for Hendry and keep paying him his 8k a week..

Well done to bowyer and mcphillips, however they must have been at a different game last night ,both teams were terrible the passing was atrocious, jason lowe is wasted in midfield he should be returned to full back asap i hope mr appleton makes it a priority to sign a ball winner in midfield and a centre half who can head a ball, dann is dreadful

I saw the game on TV. Both sides were poor. Where on earth do people get this notion that we have a good squad ?
Rhodes' ability to put the ball in the net is the only good thing going for us and will save us from sinking
The Chelsea kid looked promising but no-one else showed any spark at all.

I've watched every match close up and last night I got a completely different perspective of how other teams see us away from the action. Down on the ground you are caught up in the cheering and atmosphere, watching individuals and don't always see the overall team dynamic that I saw on tv last night.
Someone said yesterday, is this the level of performance we've dropped to? Lets be honest, we were very poor against a wolves side on a losing streak and the game was there for the taking. There are inherrent issues that still need to be rectified - A midfield that lacks pace, a bloated strike force that can't pass the ball to the one man who can score for fun etc. greedy players wanting to make a name for themselves than play as a team etc
That said, watching my team on the box last night I can see why GB would feel happy with one point. With having to work with what there was with only Kane coming into the team, the one thing that stood out to me was the hunger to play (for GB?) from some of the players.
CK, apart from being close to a red card, seemed to WANT every ball. Rochina, one of afore-mentioned greedy players, under a decent manager reigning in his show boating could be a prolific play maker. GB has shown how our defence should play. MA should take note of this and develop on this.
I could go on, but I'd just be repeating what others are saying, but my point is, MA is inheriting an average playing team with a recently found desire to play. If he can get them to play for him like they play for GB AND he gets his transfer wishes (ignoring Singhs claim of no transfers), we should have a strong team capable of play-off contention.
This is one the most expensive squads if not the most expensive squad in the championship with players capable of great things. It desperately needs a manager who is capable of grinding it out of them.
From what I hear about Mr Appleton, he takes no prisoners and he manages with a firm hand on the tiller which is exactly what this mixed bag of overpaid seniors, unknowns and internationals need to overcome the negative impact of the media circus in the background.
We wish you all the best Mr Appleton. Our club lacks strong leadership. I dearly hope you can bring this to the table.

We are far from the dynmic squad that some seem to see us as. I see us as a very ordinary side.
This matched against the ridiculous salaries they are on, just beggars belief, ad will 'do for us' in the end.
MA has a reputation to sort these kind of 'issues' out, lets hope so.
There is no orchestrated play in our squad at all, this for me down to any leadership qualities at all in any of our squad.
It seemed to me that Simon was sacrificed in order to give Peds some matchtime and therefore put him in the shop window (and I think he knew it).
I have a fear that GB's tenure at our club may well have been foreshortened with the last weeks endeavours added to the arrival of MA and his RH man.
If an offer comes in, I could see him taking it.
