Murphy's praise for Blackburn Rovers caretaker Bowyer
10:00am Saturday 12th January 2013 in News
DANNY Murphy heaped praise on Gary Bowyer after Blackburn Rovers’ caretaker boss came close to signing off with a 100 per cent record last night.
Rovers drew 1-1 at Wolves in Bowyer’s final game in charge of the first team before handing over to Michael Appeton, who was confirmed as the club’s new boss two hours before last night’s game.
Jordan Rhodes’ 26th-minute penalty put Rovers ahead at Molineux and looked set to give Bowyer four wins out of four as caretaker boss.
Rovers would have moved up to eighth in the Championship table with victory but instead sit 12th after Roger Johnson ghosted in unmarked to head an equaliser for Wolves with 16 minutes remaining.
Bowyer, who may now return to his previous role as reserve team boss, guided Rovers to wins over Barnsley and Nottingham Forest as well as a cup triumph against Bristol City.
Asked about Appleton’s appointment, Murphy said: “I don’t know much about him.
“Today’s about giving credit to Gary for the job he’s done in the last four games – three wins and a good draw tonight.
“I thought first half we did okay but Wolves came at us and deserved their point.
“It’s a bit crazy, it’s not ideal to have had five managers at this stage of the season.
“We’ll move on now and have the new manager in Monday, and see how next week goes.”

Appleton wouldn't have been my choice but as he's here I hope Murphy and the team pull their fingers out as we now know they are capable of doing. Play fore the manager and the fans who help to pay your wages and don't pick and choose when you wish to do so. If you don't the fans will know.
Well done team GB, unbeaten in four.....When did we last do that.

I hope we don't see the players only playing when they want to as they didn't seem to play for Berg. If so, where are we going to end up ?

i just cant comprehend why every bit of experience has been allowed to leave and everyone they bring in has zero experience. it beggars belief.

His wings will be clipped
He is one of the reasons for our sub standard performance
He was totally insignificant again in our lackluster midfield
Any coach with a degree of nous must recognise that our mifdfield is woeful.
We will go through a period of internal strife without question and some players will go if they don't buy into our future. Kazim was totally off it last night and lucky we were not down to 10 men. He and Murphy (Strong Characters) will certainly have views as to the going ons at the club.
Watch the blue litmus paper ignite.
I personally don't think the two of them have any right to be taking over our great club
Appleton - West Brom Portsmouth Blackpool
Westwood - What the heck standing is he going to have with any of our players - A joke

Needless to say we are not doing it in midfield yet so its an area of concern, but the defending was highlighted again, how can wolves best header of the ball have noone marking him from a set piece. Schoolboy stuff. Thats it with Rovers, they need more than one goal because they always concede due to players switching off. I hope appleton can get them working harder.

I am sick of players playing only when they feel like it (they didn't play for Henning and he was gone before he could do anything about it
The new manager is going to get backing from Shaw, which can only be a good thing.
It is a brave thing to walk away from Blackpool to come to us and I personally think Appleton is a good appointment
I wish Appleton all the best

I have not got a clue as to whether you read these comments however what a field day you have now for investigative journalism with the latest Shenanigans.
Please can you endeavour to find out what is behind all the latest decisions and if you cannot then let us know what the obstacles are.
If you have asked X Y Z questions to certain people and not got satisfactory answers then TELL US who you spoke to and the question you asked them.
We can then as fans decide how to pick it up from there.
I have no confidence in Michael (Neanderthal) Appleton or his sidekick Westwood at all.
Yes they may have the UEFA A licence badges or whatever bits of paper they are called these days but CAN they manage - I suspect NOT.
We had two great coaches in GBs team
I predict an internal mutiny to be honest - So bang goes any chances of promotion this year.
If he doesn't get buy in from ALL the players or CERTAIN players they will eventually (and how long may this take) have to go but will truly rock the boat before they go.
Murphy who was seeing his influence rising under GB will now be sidelined for he does not even warrant a place in the side and was probably seeing his future as a potential Rovers Coach / Manager.
Rocky times ahead.
Andy a couple of starters and perhaps others can add questions for your favoured monthly call to fans for suggestions of questions for you to ask.
What of Shaws role in all of this and who did he consult?
Who is Appleton and Westwoods agent?
To Appleton and Westwood - Why do they think they were qualified to take up this wonderful opportunity at our beloved club? because their repspective CVs are woefully short of what we need.

I agree and I think the Murphy issue is a critical one.
He is not a captain - No real leadership on the field such as a Bryan Robson type. When he loses the ball he looks around at everyone and throws his hands up in the air. NOT a captains example.
He may have been a player in the past (and hos one splitting pass last night reflects that) but the game unfortunately and embarrassingly bypasses him now.
Also I do question still the coaching at the club regardless as to how many of the coaches have so called UEFA A Licence badges etc
Last night at times we really pressurised the ball really well from their defence Kazim Rhodes Simon etc but the back four stayed back instead of really pushing up allowing acres of space between our front three pressing players and the back four who were barely passed our 18 yard box.
Secondly free kicks not hurting the opposition.
On the right we had a right footed player taking the free kick so the ball was outwardly swerving away from the goal instead of a left footed free kick which viciously curves in towards the goal and just needs the faintest of deflections to go in. Likewise from the left we should have a right footed player taking them. We scored a hat full with Big Sam in charge from such positions and have had a load of goals scored against us from such free kicks against us in the past. Ask any defender and it is one of their worst nightmares having to defend such set pieces.
No real set piece strategy.
Oh well maybe Westwood and Appleton are coaching gurus which is why we have brought them in for they certainly have not been brought in for their management expertise for they have NON.

I didn't want Appleton but am prepared to support him and the team. I won't support venkys, Shebby, shaw or Agnew.
20,000 at wolves last night, they don't like their owner and have been on managerial merry go round too. But at least the fans turn up and support the team - why do we think we're different than the many mis-managed clubs out there? Well run clubs are few and far between: Swansea 20% fan ownership, West Brom - I can't think of many more that don't have dodgy owners and/or loads of debt. Am sure there are more.
We as fans need to support the team and rise above the nonsense going on in the boardroom and those milking the club - this happens at lots of clubs and before Jack we weren't a well run club since the early part of 20th Century.
I respect the fact that there are differing oponioms but I for one will be cheering at ewood and not booing or moaning! I want the players to want to play in front of the fans despite the nonsense that goes on in the background.

As a manager, he has a worse win percentage record than Steve Kean! Kean attained 28.3 % by recording 21 wins from 74 games. Appleton's percentage is 23.8% after winning just 15 games from 63 attempts. Obviously, he also has less experience than Kean, with just 63 games under his belt, though he has experience of taking a team down, as his Portsmouth side were relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2011-12 season.
Why the big brains in charge at Rovers have seen fit to lure him away from Blackpool is a bit of a mystery. His record there was 2 wins from 12 matches!

OK not the greatest of performances, we allowed Wolves to drag us down to their level in the second half, but another hard earned point away from home is not to be sniffed at.
Playing poorly yet still picking up points, used to be a good thing that.
So well done GB and his team, hopefully Appleton will be able to build on this over the next few games, if not I am quite sure you and the rest of the doomsayers will be ecstatic to be proven right once again.
As for Murphy I was one of his greatest critics in the first half of the season but I thought he played quite well again last night, as he has recently, he made a couple of errors down to his lack of pace but was also in the right place at the right time again to clear a corner off the line.
You are right about the midfield though, no-one with any idea how to tackle, no-one with any "bite", something we desperately need especially in this league.

Lets get behind the guy and see how it goes, but with realistic expectations, ie probably not promotion this time around but a stable base built for next season.
As for the team midfield just totally inadequate and we must get players beyond Rhodes so that he gets opportunities from various plays, we didnt manage that once last night.
Murphy I thought played quite well but his after match comments were out of order in my view and he might get to know Appleton ok next week!
I smell changes playing staff wise and I think they will come from the new guy once he sees some action and realises some attitudes. Cmon Rovers!

what we need at Rovers is another dose of the Furphey big broom. otherwise known as a clearout.deadwood,no hopers and anybody not up for change swept out into the streets.Furphey picked Rovers up of the floor when they were dying and we are dying now consign the last 2 years to memory forget the name Kean the hate he attracted is bringing the club down.
Lets forget boycotts and talk of demo's against a manager whi has not even set foot in the place.I think appleton might have the balls, not sure all the players have lets just make sure the fans have.

I am not a doomsayer and watch the games intensively not leaving 5 /10 mins before half time to get beers in etc and I see what I see.
We may disagree on a number of points however my main point is what experience has Appleton or Westwood truly had.
In say dealing in the transfer market / with agents / with Shaw Agnew Singh debacle, with Hendry, with the Portugeese contingent and dealing with what will inevitably be some very disgruntled senior players.
He has no alternative but to deal with Murphy who does not warrant a starting shirt and certainly not as CAPTAIN. I will not forget his performance at Middlesbrough it was truly beyond me how he has kept the shirt and captains armband.
Just day to day management skills / knowledge / personal attributes.
He cobbled together a team at Portsmouth of misfit players that were probably pleased to get a run out for they would not at most other clubs, Blackpool he has done no wheeling or dealing as I suspect West Brom.
I like you, look forward to seeing how he fairs. With probably the first time in his career being able to go out there and identify / attract the players he truly thinks can make a difference at the same time as developing our academy talent.
The one thing I do believe he will get is Shaw's support (for he needs to be seen to be getting it right) but will he be able to keep his professional distance from the likes of Shaw who has cast his reputation on him.
A great opportunity for him to eventually test his skills but at present they have probably not been TRULY tested with biggish named players.
If Harry Rednapp after all these years still has difficulties with agents etc then I don't think Appleton will find it easy.
As fans we obviously wish him all the best in is endeavors.

Much criticism has been directed at our management , and, rightly so .....but, when this club is fighting for its very existence no mark Murphy gives a vote of no confidence in Appleton.
Appleton will, no doubt soon realise the massive limitations of Murphy who will then " know something about him"
Appleton 2 seasons ago would not have been my choice but we have to live in the real world ( Venkys poison) and realise we are lucky to have anyone mange here.

Appleton needs to hit the ground running and produce results quickly to get the fans on side. If he cannot continue the winning streak, clearly there is something wrong. That said, Appleton, if his reputation is to be believed should realise straight away that we cannot challenge for promotion with the squad as it stands and should be expected to demand funds to bring in players before the end of the transfer window.

Lots of our fans have decided to stay away, it's their prerogative - but personally I don't think it helps, like booing doesn't help - with exception of the loathsome kean! No idea why anyone would think booing Murphy is a good idea.
I agree though time to back Appleton and the players.

Isn't it time you and all your fellow tobacco chewing chest pounding hillbillies had a reality check and try to fathom what it is that's caused this bizarre paranoia you all have about absolutely anything BRFC? Is it decades of pent up anger and frustration at being so unimportant and such a failure? I had no idea the whole village of Bonleh had been plagued by this unhealthy obsession. What a shame.
Ahh well, make the most of your 3rd world cardboard cut out clubs little moment in the sun (clearly you are) because it won't last. You do know that don't you?
Despite whats gone on down Ewood the last couple of years, Appletons actually a decent manager - and us fickle glory hunting Rovers fans will soon be back through the turnstiles once the results start to come together. Then what for sorry little Bonleh eh? Maybe another open top bus parade to celebrate your time above Rovers in the league?
Bless you easily pleased shiny faced odd balls..... you really do need help...
bye for now Georgina you fat ponce x x x

The point you don't get Einstein is that I completely accept that we're being taken apart by a range of parasitic scum. However, you and your stalking friends seem to think that you're a well run club despite the fact you don't own your ground or training ground and have to sell players because BFC like many clubs are financially unsustainable.
Bye bye George sh@t for brains.

Bentley was good for Rovers as Rovers was good for Bentley, I just hope he's got the hunger still and Appleton can get the best out of him. We need some creativity as well as a couple of proper centre halves because I'm not convinced with Dann whatsoever. We are crying out for a Ryan Nelson like player - experience, bravery and organiser. We need a spine to the team and quick.

service he desperately needs to score the goals for us that we know he is more than capable of scoring, watching the Wolves game Kaz and Ruben were far to greedy trying too hard to impress the sky cameras instead of passing the ball. MGP seems to be the only player who trys to feed the ball to Jordan, we need to work as a team and not be greey individuals.

"All you need to know about the latest proposal for financial fair play in the Premier League is that, if the rules were passed, Venky’s catastrophic takeover of Blackburn Rovers would still be permitted. Jack Walker’s title win, however, would not.
Yes, he could have bought the club just the same, but Walker would not have been allowed to do much of worth with it. He would not have been able to invest at a level that could bring quick success; he would not have been able to challenge the established elite effectively.
So no Alan Shearer, no Chris Sutton, probably no Kenny Dalglish either, because what would be the point? And no league title. Manchester United would have won the championship in 1995, as they did in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997 and the modern era’s greatest achievement would never have happened.
Walker could still have purchased Blackburn, the club he loved, but only to manage their mediocrity, perhaps with small incremental improvements each year. The revolution, the great leap forward, the dream of every supporter across the land, would have been thwarted by supposed fair play.
Venky’s plans, meanwhile, would pass on the nod. There are to be no restrictions on those who want to buy a club and ruin it. Sell their best player, under-invest, bring in a cabal of clowns to run the show, get relegated. The elite are more than happy for the new money men to do that.
It is Walker, and those like him, that have them running scared. They fear competition, not tame bottom feeders. Manchester United are fine with Blackburn selling them Phil Jones; they just don’t like being taken on over Shearer or Carlos Tevez".
He may be using us as an example of the FFP but I think the penny has well and truly dropped with the journos.
