Dan can be the man, says Blackburn Rovers caretaker
1:50pm Monday 7th January 2013 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
GARY Bowyer has hailed Danny Murphy’s contribution to Rovers’ recent upturn in fortunes after admitting his experience has been invaluable.
The former Spurs, Liverpool and England midfielder gave Rovers an early lead in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Bristol City, as Bowyer’s men made it three wins out of three for the first time since 2008.
Caretaker boss Bowyer remained coy on his own Ewood Park future, despite his 100 per cent start to life in the hot seat, and preferred to heap all the praise on his players.
He said: “It was a great start for us and a good strike from Danny. Since myself and Terry have come in and had to look after the team, Danny has been brilliant his support for us has been magnificent and we can’t praise him enough.
“His goal was good and he reminded the lads on Friday that he had won the FA Cup with Liverpool. He has been great for the lads and great for us.
“The majority of the senior lads have been magnificent and he is one of those. We would be daft not to call on his experience and he has been great for us.”
Rovers controlled Saturday’s third round tie for long periods against a Bristol City side who looked every inch the Championship strugglers they currently are.
But Bowyer insists league form counted for nothing and was quick to praise his players’ professionalism and spirit.
“We knew it would be a tough game,” he said. “They have some good players and even at 2-0 they were still having a go.
“It is always a tough game as I don’t think league form comes into a cup competition. I think we were lucky getting the goal as early as we did and it settled us down.
“The lads are going to have a couple of days off because they are absolutely shattered. The energy they showed and the spirit was fantastic. You look at Simon Vukcevic filling in at right back and Colin Kazim-Richards’ efforts to see that.
“Grant Hanley and Scott Dann have been immense the last three games. They have played with real aggression and defended for their lives. Two clean sheets is massive for them and the fact they can link up in the opposition’s box is nothing short of outstanding.
“The confidence is coming from their work rate and their commitment and desire they have been showing in games.”
Meanwhile, when it comes to his own future, Bowyer was adamant he was taking things game by game.
He said: “We have been asked to take care of it until the end of January, but we are aware that in football anything can happen.
“The right candidate might pop out of somewhere so it will be game by game and if we get to the end of January we will see what the board want to do.”

What a refreshingly honest and genuine approach to the job in hand from GB. Every player seems to be responding well to the current situation and it is surely a case of the our own Rovers 'Team GB' turning in decent performances right now....bring on the Wolves!

Unfortunately the telegraph has been unable to run a spot the ball contest since murphys arrival. His statue like stance in the centre circle pointing at the ball has resulted in too many winners.

I feel sorry for Berg too - he never had a chance really - but we move onwards and upwards for this week at least!

Bowyer always seems to talk sense but at the end of the day football is all about results, the players get results and it is all about getting the best out of the players, no one can argue about Bowyers' record to date and it seems to have helped that the majority of the previous coaching staff have gone too.
A good result at Wolves and its game on. Come on Rovers I want that trip out to Wembley in May! Well we can all dream can't we?

The next step is to bring in some players to help continue this momentum, especially in defence and midfield. We might lose Givet, Olsson, MGP and Formica to name a few.
The only problem is who will be picking these players, GB or SS. I just hope we go for quality rather than players who are cheap and ineffective.

Whilst I like what Gary Bowyer has done, I must ask is he after having Danny Murphy's babies, all I read is how great DM is, well let me tell you Mr Bowyer, it's about time Murphy put a shift in for this club.
As a captain with young lads around him he should spend more time encouraging than berating them but to be fair he's looking like he wants to play for Blackburn now.

For Bowyer the big test is at Wolves on Friday especially as they have a new manager. Contrary to posts on here Saunders could turn out to be better than we think. I expect Wolves to climb with him in charge. He has had success whereever he has been. A win for us and Bowyer will be in charge until summer. Fingers crossed. Molineaux is a good ground and our supporters will enjoy it there.

Wolves sack and appoint within 24 hours and now Barnsley are talking to Terry Butcher who has guided Inverness ST from bottom of Leagur One to 2nd in Scottish Premier League behind Celtic with virtually no money.
I like what I hear from Garry B - honest sensible guy but if Singh and his cronies are intent on appointing - get on with it or is it just as many of us fear you are waiting for the transfer window to close !!
