Eriksson open to Rovers role, as Singh plans short-term deal
9:31am Thursday 3rd January 2013 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
Sven-Goran Eriksson
FORMER England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has been put forward as a candidate for the Blackburn Rovers job – while bookies favourite Peter Taylor has not been contacted.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands that 15 years after backing out of a deal to become Rovers boss, Eriksson’s name has been forwarded to the club by his representatives as the Ewood outfit continue their search for Henning Berg’s successor on what Shebby Singh says will be initially a short-term contract.
The Swede said he would be interested in the role but was quick to stress no attempt to contact him had been made by Rovers. It is understood Rovers are unlikely to pursue Eriksson either, with owners Venky’s considering numerous other options.
Global advisor Singh said yesterday the club were planning to appoint a manager for six months initially.
He said: “At this moment in time we are looking to offer a short term contract, a Rovers’ reserve team boss Gary Bowyer will continue in temporary charge for Saturday’s FA Cup visit of Bristol City, despite the surprise emergence of Taylor as a favourite for the vacancy.
The former England under 21 boss’ name sprang to the top of the bookmakers list of candidates on Tuesday a six-month contract with specific targets and upon achieving those targets, it will trigger off a longer term contract. So we are looking to reward success and not failure.”
Former England under–21 boss, Taylor, sprang to the top of the bookmakers list of candidates on Tuesday.
Sources close to Taylor said he has received no contact from Rovers and was in the dark about where the link had come from.
Taylor, who declined a director of football role at Plymouth, would be interested in the position but is not believed to be expecting any contact from Rovers.
It is also understood that former Preston boss Billy Davies and ex-Rovers coach Mark Bowen are interested in the job.
Meanwhile Eriksson admitted the vacant managerial role at Rovers would be attractive for anyone.
The 64-year-old agreed to become Rovers boss in 1997 but, after changing his mind for family reasons, he joined Lazio instead.
He has enjoyed spells at Manchester City and Leicester City in England and has recently been doing some temporary work at clubs in Thailand.
He said: “No one from Blackburn has asked me about it but of course Blackburn Rovers are a club I have looked up over the years. It is a very good club and a big club and they belong in the Premier League. It would be a job anyone would be interested in.
“Of course I would like to get back into football and I love English football, whether you are talking about the national job, Premier League football, Championship or even League One and Two.”

These names can ONLY be getting drip fed by Rovers to the LET. How else do the LET know who the Rovers have in mind if the candidates themselves haven’t even been approached?? Sources say...? (give me a break)
...
So is the arrangement? – Rovers feed names and the LET give the names a bit of an airing to see what the local populous think?
...
We all know Shebby wants a ‘popular’ appointment (a bit like Berg at the time)
...
Are LET now assuming the role of Shebbys/Venkys puppet?

No wonder a no-hoper like Peter Taylor is the bookies favourite. Sounds like someone has gone to Venkys and told them that they are lining up a former England manager without mentioning that it was only for one game or the fact that he was recently sacked by League two Bradford.
Also, in the unlikely event that we do find a manager who does well, then he is free to talk to other clubs after 6 months.
Shebby Singh is a clown. His appearance on 606 made me realise just how bad things have become at Rovers, for someone like that to be running the club.
I'm beginning to think that the best way forward for Rovers now is for Venkys to get fed up with funding the club, which they surely will do when the parachute payments run out and then hopefully some local business men take over the club when the club is worth next to nothing.

take berg for example, apparently according to our wonderful global adviser he applied for the job in the first week, whilst we were taking our time to ensure we made the correct decision, and then after admitting that berg was not first choice he was appointed five weeks later whilst the club had been allowed to drift. he was onto a loser from day one.
in previous articles it has been said that nothing happens without the say-so of madame desai. this begs a question why do we need all these courtesans all over the place?
shebby on his meandering interview last night on radio lancs says he is the one who is making ALL the decisions at ewood and yet he is NOT A DIRECTOR (i wonder why?). so if he is making all the decisions (subject to approval from desai) then what is the point of agnew and shaw? are they in place purely because shebby is not a director?
my understanding is that shaw and agnew did not go to see the loons is pune voluntarily and have been invisible since they got back. shebby has said he will not comment on his relationship with tweedle dee and dum and yet talks about the enemy within - this can only be a historical reference to kean (long departed), the preston two, or some of the indian ownership.
taylor, davis, eriksson - who knows? all available as guns for hire. i am prepared to bet on the basis of implications from the likes of radio lancs that taylor rumour came out of india - despite anything that singh said yesterday. davis i dont think has made any comment - but you can understand how supporters put 2 and 2 together given his record and availability and nobody has mentioned sven apart from sven and his advisers (i guess that atol stil bloke).
what is sure now that if it is a 6 month contract - no manager currently in employment will be applying for the role....so the field is limited. i am amazed that peter reid hasn't been mentioned yet given his far east connections...(watch this space)

Sven was conned by the fake Sheik because he can't resist taking money off fools.
If they were not connected to Blackburn Rovers I would say Venkys, Singh, Shaw and Agnew fully deserve to be working with someone who, like them, lacks a functioning moral compass.

I personally wouldn't touch Sven with a barge pole.
He's only ever been in it for the money.
He even went to Notts County believing they had wealthy financial backers.
If the club hasn't spoke to Taylor or Sven, just who have we spoken to?
Remember that Shebby had previously stated that an appointment would be announced on New Years Day?
The only thing that Shebby / Venkys have learnt is that they should not have given Berg a 3 year contract when his only target was promotion.
With the January window now open, what chance does any new manager have of strengthening the squad and releasing / selling the likes of Robinson Givet, Dunn, Etuhu, Formica and the Poruguese contingent?
Unless the divisions within the club are addressed we will not progress - that is certain.
Would anyone like to guess the size of the crowd on Saturday.?
I feel it could be a club record low for the FA cup.

Whilst the current regime are 'running' the club Rovers are going nowhere. Survival at best, relegation at worst. They couldnt care less about the club or the fans.
No plan, no investment, no ******* idea.
The only 'strategy' I see is run the club into the ground and pocket the assets. Wonder what the clubs 'real' finances look like?

It seems to me that all the names that are being tossed around to be interested in the job, or the the names the rovers are interesting in appointing, is all pie in the sky. They have all lost their previous jobs because of failure, so what makes people think they will be a success at Ewood at this present time. At least the ship seems to be steady at the moment. I believe we are in a catch 22 situation. Having said that, someone is going to get the job, and when this happens, lets all get behind him and the team, and stop this petty name calling.

Thats right I feel like I've had an RSJ removed from my shoulders, and now I feel epic, must be the money supermarket thing.
As an example lets look at israel, a country that has existed for three thousand years and was nothing but swampland and sand when the jews settled there. Now because of the middle easts failure to MOVE ON and get on with living in the present, they have all sorts of shister going on. Or what about the Falklands and Argentinas failure to get over it.
Now even Americans like Sean Penn are digging up dirt saying it belongs to Argentina, er hang on a minute Sean, Great Britain has had sovereignty over the Falklands longer than America has had over Texas, which used to be part of Mexico, so Are the Americans going to give Texas back to the Mexicans??? All this is irrelevant but do you see where I am coming from
if you keep letting the past two years grind you down and mince you into a squashed insignificant blob, if you feel that it always keeps going wrong then you end up on prozac or drinking yourself to death. Not me, I don't work like that. I prefer to be a happy clapping winner instead of a moaning depressing loser.
Why be miserable when there is just no need? Can you not see whats happening to you? Are you driving your families happiness into the ground??

How come Cryer keeps on putting absolutely stupid made up reports on here and nobody has suspected what he's up to.
He is paid to talk drivel and he's doing a very good job.
Why can't you fans smell a rat in your camp, he's one of the biggest trouble makers for you lot and you all respond to what ever tosh he puts on here.

Cant say any of the managers scream out to me thus far, although i guess that is whats to be expected. I wouldnt mind seeing Curbishly given the chance with a 40+% win rate at West Ham in the Premier League and a decent spell at Charlton, he could push us into promotion although he has been out of the game for a while. Obvious there are managers such as Capello and Di Matteo who would bring vast amounts of experience but wouldn't have any sort of interest in the job. Dowie, SGE, Hoddle, Hiddink, Hodgson, Hughes, McClaren, Strachen and many more would fill up my list that if i was in Singh's position. I wonder how many established managers will be on his though.

Most of us a more realistic.
I suppose the shame of a manager leaving for a lower league club like Bournemouth puts things into prospective eh?

No Nay Never.
Sven and Jack agreed to tear up the contract and remained friends afterwards.
As I heard it at the time Jack tore up the contact because he didn't want a manager who didn't want to be at Blackburn Rovers and who wasn't a man of his word..
I guess we all choose who we want to trust.

Just get Karl Robinson to come in as manager with Gary as his assistant/coach. Then we've got what everyone wants...a cheap option for the Venkys, continuation for the players, and a young management team with Rovers at his heart and some experience for the fans.

I think most of us know which players we would like see move on at BRFC.
But who do we want in playing....!!
Ok, I think we should make recomendations to BRFC as we're football fans and we see or hear of players doing well. I'm sure we know a player or two out there in the Football league who in their opinion good be a good player for BRFC.
Lets start pointing out the players in the lower leagues who could be good signings for Rovers.
Tony McMahon Shfld utd
Andrew Haliday Midbrgh
who is .......Tony McMahon...??
if we need a good young defender who is tough and has ability then maybe you should consider Tony McMahon who is at Sheffield utd but ex Middbrg.
have a look...!!
I think we should go for him
hes a full back, strong, tough and has scored goals
Andrew haliday
tough strong and young

1. no need to invest (excuse: "can't til we have a manager that wants to form his own team")
2. mid-table finish can be blamed on lack of interest from quality managers (excuse: "we'll build the team around the new manager's plans for next season") and Venky's won't be seen at the ground
3. a complete catastrophe and Venky's sell...after taking all the parachute payment...
