Berg: I can handle pressure at Blackburn Rovers

HENNING Berg believes he can handle the growing pressure after insisting he is still relishing the challenge of being Blackburn Rovers boss.

The Norwegian has been dogged by speculation surrounding the club ever since taking charge almost two months ago but is adamant he will not let it get in the way of doing his job.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Championship visit of Brighton, some reports have claimed Berg’s job is already under threat after a run of just one win from his first nine games in charge.

That follows a rumour started on Twitter that he had offered his resignation on Monday and subsequent reports claiming he had stormed out of the Christmas party – something he was later forced to deny.

Berg said: “I’m not on Twitter. You know these days everyone can go on Twitter, everyone can say whatever they like and don’t have to stand up for it.

“For people to start speculating and to accept there might be something in it, I don’t think is right.

“It is part of modern society, which we could really do without.

“I know Twitter is good for many things but for these things it is too easy.

“It is too easy for people to say things without having to stand up for it. There is pressure, we have to accept that. At the end of the day this is a results business.

“I am the manager, I am responsible for these results and I can handle it.”

Berg is the first to accept the pressure is mounting after a poor run of results leaves Rovers in 15th position in the Championship.

But he insists he can handle it as he continues attempting to find a way to guide the team back into play-off contention.

He said: “I have been in football long enough to know what and how football works.

“At the same time I am looking forward to these games, I am looking forward to doing my job.

“My job as a manager is important when we are winning games, at the same time it is important when we are losing games how we handle it, how we focus, how we prepare, how we go into these games, how we play these games.

“So my job in terms of what we are doing is no different but of course there will always be pressure.

“There will be pressure if you are top of the league and there will be pressure if you are bottom of the league.

“If you don’t have any pressure then something would be wrong.”

Berg has hit out at continued speculation surrounding the future of his backroom staff though, claiming reports of their imminent departures are helpful to no-one.

“I am most definitely still enjoying the job, the only thing I am not too happy about is all this speculation to come out regarding my own coaches,” he said.

“I don’t like to see good people, good coaches, experienced coaches who are doing a good job getting speculation about this in the papers.

“It is not a nice thing for them to experience, it is not a good thing for them to handle and it is not a good thing for us as a club as well.

“Because at the moment we need everyone to pull in the same direction, to make sure we can take this club forward.

“These things don’t make it easy.”

No matter what 3 points are vital on Saturday. The problem as I see it is there is no leadership within the team, no one to stamp authority on the game.
Berg's big task is to change the squad around during the January transfer window.
Brighton will come to Ewood full of confidence and expectation for at least a point. I fear another defeat may send us into Christmas looking over our shoulders at the abyss with three tough games to follow.
I also think the crowd will be very low possibly below 10k unless they count in all the season ticket holders as being there when many will be out shopping.
I'll be there willing the team on but I have many concerns, Berg needs to turn this around and do it quickly!!

I do feel some sympathy with the guy especially having to deal with numpties in charge of the club but we cannot afford to drop many more points or this is no longer a promotion issue - it is fast becoming a relegation issue and if we are honest on current form there aren't many worse teams.

So once again January TW has become of major importance and we have to rely on the experience and football knowledge of Venkys/Shabby and crew.

God help us!

Good man, the kind of interview I want to read after the events of late. Personally I think he can handle the pressure and I do think he is the man for us. Yes he might have had a the odd wobble along the way but I think over time he will take this in his stride and build the resilience to come through the other side with dignity and respect.

Fans who expected Berg to come in and turn everything around are completely delusional in my opinion. The infastructure has been torn out of the club and once Venky's realised they couldn't apply the same business model to Rovers that they had with all the other organisations they own (whereby one man heads the company then reports back to Venkys) they looked to implement the previous infastructure but with figures who aren't a shadow of the previous personnel we had.

I believe this club has a long way to fall before it can rise again but when it does I will be there and I'm sure many of my fellow fans will be as committed as ever to the cause of BRFC

I appreciate your point but I think we've all been guilty of committing to something you think you can change only to find out that there's a very good reason for things being in the state they are.

What you are suggesting is that Berg starts handling those around him who are causing damage to club, in this case Venky's & Singh both of which who Berg's employers so I don't really see what Berg can do in this situation?

Well said Henning and agree about the speculation but you have not come out and supported them as such you just say you are assessing them and that doesn't help them. Also you should know who is putting out these comments and sort them out as it is bad for the Club, Derek Shaw the Managing Director should intervene on your behalf and stop these things happening.
Having said all that a lot of these events are happening because of poor results and you need to be sorting things soon and stop the rot. Hopefully young can find a way to stop getting beat and bring a few fighters in during January and move on from there. A win on Saturday will help your cause though.

Personally, I have no sympathy for Henning at all. He Knew what the situation at Rovers was when he was a TV pundit, and said no self respecting manager would work for the club at present.

Let's be hone.st, is there a Rovers fan out there who would work for Shabby, Shaw, and Agnew? The Three Stooges know less about running a football club than my dog! They are clueless, and incompetent, unless their remit is to dismantle, and bankrupt the club - if that is the case, they are succeeding brilliantly.

As I've said before, if Henning has any feeling for the club, or any dignity, he would resign, and spill the beans on exactly what is going on at Ewood.

Odd wobble? Berg has won 1 in 9 at Ewood and lost the last 7 games at his previous club? So his record is 16 games 1 win 3 draws? Possibly the worst record in footballing history? But its not his fault, hes blameless, hes a legend, he'll turn us around. Time to appoint a proper manager not a Norwegian Sunday League coach. The longer we leave it the futher we will slip.

Problem is that since the Venkys came in the style of football we play has been changed to what they think is good football, they want a team of players who trained for years to bully teams and get the ball forward quickly and effectively to play like Barcelona. You can tell that they have told Berg they want this style of football but it doesnt work. Trying to get Dann, Hanley and Etuhu to play the ball from the back is suicidal and has been seen several times a game when they loose possesion in there own half. One good thing is that Berg isnt affraid to make changes and King looks to be a decent attacking player who will steadily improve with games under his belt, Iam quietly excited to see who else comes in during the window and think he can only be judged when its his team. We have already got rid of Orr and it looks like Robbo is on his way, It wont do us any harm to get rid of all the players who were mentally scared under Kean regime. Start from fresh and send all the Portugeezers back.

Dan11 says...
3:53pm Fri 21 Dec 12

Berg is starting to change the personnel of the team, but needs to go further and drop the disinterested and lackadaisical attitude consistently costs us points Scott Dann.
-
The facts are these. Berg has one win, three draws and five defeats from nine games. If he has another nine games of similar form (less than one point a game on average) then it will be very difficult for the Venkys to keep him on, as we will be drawn into a relegation battle.
-
I am not saying Berg is not good enough, but unless he takes decisive action, more of the kind he has with the overweight and disinterested Robinson then he will not last until further than March in the job and we will be fighting to avoid relegation to League 1.

They are doing something about it. First thing is the ingrained loser relegation mindset. Robinson is proof of this, relegated at leeds relegated here. Harry redknapp got shut when spurs were in the bottom five and robbo was in goal. He has a relegation mindset.
Scott Dann, relegated at Birmingham and relegated here. The jury is out on Dann but his performances of late leave little to be desired, I say Jury is out because although he was relegated at Birmingham, he was injured for most of the season.
Top tip for Venkys/Rovers decision makers. If you want to stop losing, you don't sign a team full of losers or players who have just been relegated.
Jake kean might just start to make a difference.
Hopefully we will sign a steady away centre back and a more combative midfielder. What about going after jermain Jones again. Surely being a year older he won't cost 10 million any more.
Just think, if they'd paid the 10 million asking price last time round, we'd still be in the prem. But now is the time to put the wrongs right.

Whats the point of coming on a Rovers article wanting people not to support them???
You are obviously not a Rovers fan then, so be on your way.

HB if your concerned about the speculation of your good coaches come out and say they are going no where (except Hendry if course) you say your the Boss but you need to start using the press to get your points across, Shebby is a master at this and it's him that will eventually stab you in the back.
Come out tell it as it is down at Ewood/Brockhall tell us what YOU want we can't believe the snake in the grass commonly known as our Global Advisor!
Should you get the sack it will be to late then, it will sound like sour grapes.
The speculation and subsequent responses are just another example of very poor\no PR. It's not your fault Henning but the club is rotten to the core.

Do yourself a favour and jump on one of the lifeboats whilst you can.

The club is fine, do you think if you deter enough folk they will sell it cheap??
Is this your underhanded ambition. Darker forces. Are you Bane and Henning is the Batman? wanting to turn gotham against itself to futher your own ends? Batman wouldn't desert his hometown. Shame on you for asking
I have exposed your underhanded cunning with my plot exposure spray. Holy Transfer window Batman, that was a close call.

I’ve just read Glen Mullan’s blog http://roversrevisit
ed.brfcs.com/2012/12

on the BRFCS site. Paul Agnew needs to get his tin hat out!
It looks like Agnew was complicit in all the early turmoil – and he was only the Press Officer then! I hope Williams and/or Finn do come back. It will be the end of Agnew!
I have some recollection that Glen Mullan said in the summer that BRAG would make disclosures if the Football League/FA(?) did not come back to them by the end of this year with the results of their investigation into BRAG’s 400-page dossier exposing the goings-on at Ewood. I wonder if this is the opening shot?

Henning has said as IT IS that he makes all footballing decisions, do you not trust him?
Kean said we had NO CHANCE of being relegated last season. did you believe him?

I doubt it very much, Williams is at Man City who are now one of the biggest clubs in the world.

The transfer window is everything for us now, there is no way this current squad can even keep us in this league. If we are where we are now mid-February then Berg has to go and the coaching staff have to go, if not Venkys.

Is that my son by any chance???
