Berg: 'Missed chances proves costly for Blackburn Rovers'
7:56pm Saturday 15th December 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
HENNING Berg believes Blackburn Rovers' first half wastefulness cost them dear as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Blackpool this afternoon.
Rovers spurned a host of opportunities before the break as a West Thomas goal against the run of play was enough to give the hosts a lead at the break.
Blackpool went on to dominate the second 45 minutes as a Kirk Broadfoot header secured an ultimately comfortable victory, leaving Rovers with four defeats in their past five games.
Berg said: "We were desperate to win and play well and I think we showed that in the opening half.
"I don't know how much the players heard of what was being shouted at them by the fans but I don't think too much about my own position.
"All our players tried their best but when you are lacking in confidence you become indecisive.
"I am focussed on doing the best I can to improve the team but if our early chances had gone in it could have been a different game."

Show them how to close down the opposition quickly when we haven't got the ball.
Tell them to get into the 'faces' of the opposition and make a nuisance of themselves when we're not in possession.
None of these things require any real amount of skill but make it difficult for our opponents to walk all over us, as everyone seems to be doing at the moment.

Not good - we are no more ateam than what we were when Eric black was in charge - it is not working - as a player and a person Henning Berg deserves respect but as a Manager so far it is an unmitigated disaster - the players are hiding once the game goes against them and confidence is non existant.

Pray tell us what made you leave the abysmal bumbling Etuhu on and take off Vukevic who was a star in the first half and worked his socks off as he has done every opportunity he has had to play?
Your starting lineup was right on, but why only one sub?
Pederson and Gomes on the touchline, why not bring them on to change the game?
Face it, a good tradesman can never blame his tools and you have an impressive arsenal at your disposal who you've failed to inspire. If they lack confidence, whose fault is that? You had a sellout away crowd following today who sang their hearts out for at least 80 mins if not more.
Face it Henning, the job is too big for you. We loved you as a player we respected you for taking on the challenge under this regime and patiently awaited to see the green shoots of recovery that were promised, but now in 16th place with only 1 win, you yourself should be honest with yourself and step down gracefully and keeo your honour and respect at this club intact.
Its not over for Rovers yet, far from it, but we all knew it, we all said it. This job needed someone whose done it before, an experienced manager a la Schuster, OGS or the Holloways who had reportedly showed interest and, who have a vast amount of experience and their oen staff with them.
Don't be a Kean. Let someone with experience guide us back to our winning ways.

The job of winning is much more difficult than it needs to be since they are not keeping the ball out, that is half the battle. they have made it so difficult as they lack the appettie to do the ugly and unrewarded side of the game, closing down, tracking back, blocking and tackling all requires effort but also inititiave and anticipation, it doesnt help when your engine room has players with no hunger and no energy.
Berg should understand when working with poor players like rovers are left with now, he cant go directly to the advanced stuff that the top teams do when the basics are not sound, the football being played will continue to faulter, he has to start again, spoonfeed them everything from the start, it is not enough to say we need to/can defend better, but tell them what their role is, what not to do in certain situations, and preparing them in case others make a mistake.

Time for some Rovers fans to grow some ****'x - all the shouts for Berg Out are pathetic. You just cant run a football club if you sack every manager we have if they lose a couple of games. The club has to (and will) give Berg at least until the end of the season to prove himself. I'm all for giving a new manager a chance and I don't want to call for his sacking, but honestly do not think he is capable of turning it around for us. At this level, with the players at his disposal, he should have at least been capable of stringing a few wins together against the lesser teams, yet a win at home has eluded him as has more than one win in eight?
And frankly apart from his starting lineup today which was spot on, his team selection as his substitutions are baffling me. Wheres Dunn? Why did Pederson look like he was warming up but didn't play? Why was Etu-WHO? Allowed to play 90 mins of shiyte football where he was like a rabbit in headlights at most tackles?
We couldn't understand Kean's selections but Im struggling to understand where the goals are going to come from with this attacking style of hoofball, run all the way back to defend tactics with poor Rhodes getting little or no service to speak of in the second half especially today.
Berg needs to pull his finger out or get out. Its as simple as that. This isn't a league you can coast through on draws and losses and the competition this year is stronger than ever. Im not holding out to a few transfers making a huge difference if Berg doesn't possess the capacity early on in the game to realise a formation isnt working or a player isnt on form and bring on impact players to turn the game around. This is what the good managers are capable of and we do have the talent in the squad to be able to do that.
We haven't got the time to sacrifice for Berg to learn the game, we needed someone to hit the ground running and Berg just doesn't seem to fit that bill.

Just quite how these people have put together together an international business is beyond me. I can only assume the class and bribery system in India is alive and well, because it surely can't be on merit.
Anyway, what's done can't be undone in my eyes. The quicker we start downsizing as a football club to recognise we're now a championship/league one club the less chance we'll get into financial turmoil and administration once they've taken their lot and **** off.

I still don't think most Rovers fans on here really understand our accounts that have recently been published - someone, a couple of days ago, on here, actually wrote "Well at least we made a profit"
ER, - NO !!!! we didnt !!
We made a HUGE operating LOSS !!
And since those accounts were published those MORONS, the Venkys have sanctioned the signings of NG, DM, JR, DE all on HUGE WAGES (apart from JR, I wouldnt pay the other 3 in washers) and in doing so have massively incressed our debt liabilities going forwards to unsustainable levels.
People, not unreasonably on here are saying we need to buy 5-7 new players in Jan - but we havent got any money - infact we are forecast to LOSE at least £30m (YES £30m) in the next 12 months - a figure which is wholely unsupportable on our falling revenues and the year afterwards is likely to be just as large a loss unless the problem of costs is not addressed.
As many players as possibly have to OFF-LOADED in JAN.
SD, MF, MO, RR, PR all have to be sold (if we can find some mug to buy em).
DD, MGP need to be released - if possible.
DM, DE & NG have to be made to train on their own and be told that they will NOT be selected again and can leave if they can find some mug club who will take them, or they agree to have their contracts cancelled (fat chance with them money grabing ba$tard$).
Please understand, the days of going into administration, droping your debt and coming out the otherside are over - clubs with hugh debts (especially to the taxman) from now on face LIQUIDATION, just like any normal business - don't believe me ? - just ask any Rangers fan.

Just 1 win in his last 11 games in Norway, and now the same here
2 wins out of twenty odd is shocking
As for the players, same group that had us in the top 2 places after 7 games
And we even added Rhodes , so who is to blame
Home should be 4-4-2. Away 5-3-2, it's not rocket science
Rhodes Kzr, are your 2 up front end of story then get players too supply them
Pace from midfield is essential from at least 2 those selected Rochina gets his place as does olsoon
The others distribute the ball and hold midfield( Dicko and murphy are not the answer ) to slow and are past there best
We need to sell or offload these 2 along with mpg Dunn Lowe Formica
And bring in 4 midfielders who can do that role ( hold and distribute) if they have pace then that's a bonus
As far as defence I would get shut of Dann Hanley and get replacements for these 2 if robbo can find a club let him go

I'm not condoning anti-Berg chants, they don't help the cause a dot, but the sentiment of those fans wanting Berg out is correct.
Berg was without question the WRONG choice for this club, right now, in this clubs state, with what little 'experience' he has and with what is at stake. The results are proving it. As bad as Kean was, at least he had the squad challenging for promotion, which is the very least it should be doing given the talent we have.
Its all getting way out of hand and i'm frankly bored of reading the same old look on the positive side posts...

Berg looks completely out of his depth and seems incapable of improving things.
Can anyone see any signs of improvment since his arrival because I can't.
Surely he ought to be making some impression after 9 or 10 games, yet he appears to be getting less out of this squad than either Kean or Black.
His managment record in Norway was poor and did not compare with numerous other managers who applied or expressed an interest in the Rovers job.
So why should we give him more time and money in the hope that he may be able to turn things round.
Would it not be better to cut our losses now and seek out the experienced manager that 90% of fans wanted in the first place - and by experienced I mean someone who has had some managerial success either in the English top 2 divisions, or abroad.
Shebby and the Board are the real culprits here (along with Venkys of course).
They took 5 weeks to appoint the new manager because they wanted to be certain he was the right choice.
Remember it was to be promotion or bust - that was to be Berg's only target.
I am afraid we look more like a relegation outfit at the moment and if we lose at home next Saturay the knives will surely be out.

Not good - we are no more ateam than what we were when Eric black was in charge - it is not working - as a player and a person Henning Berg deserves respect but as a Manager so far it is an unmitigated disaster - the players are hiding once the game goes against them and confidence is non existant.

With the current group of players and manager how likely is that? This season we are now more likely to face a relegation battle than anything else. Especially if the form and results of the last 5 games is repeated for the rest of the season.

We would have been better off with Kean still as manager. Even though he had to go. I find it unbelievable that the Venkys found someone even worse as a manager than Kean.

For the first time in my entire 38 years of following our beloved I walked off yesterday in the 81st minute, and as I wandered off lonely as a eyesore dejected Blackpool popped another free header in !
Hearing my fellow supporter (justifiably) laying into what is a shambles breaks my chuffing heart leaving me with an absolute empty feeling as to the route ahead ? These players that are donning the B&W shirt at present are damned and woefully lacking any confidence with the **** that as engulfed BRFC, and in the middle of all this is Henning Berg attempting in finding a solution ?
Up to the goal Rovers were in control, but as soon as the goal went in you could sense immediately the confusion within the ranks - absolutely no team ethic whatsoever just individuals attempting in rectifying the situation. Of course, had the chances gone in then possibly we could have witnessed a different game, but I doubt it as the non team ethic would have been exposed ?
Three positives for me - just - Givet, Lowe and SV the rest and in particular Dann were woeful. A truly shocking state of affairs. January is the only salvation that I can glean from all this and that is on a wing a and a prayer !
Should this continue then relegation is a real threat.
I simply refuse to put myself through the grinder any longer with this. From the boardroom to the field of play into the stands we are eating ourselves alive whilst Nero fiddled as Rome burned.
A pitiful state of affairs. A circus complete with all fools.
Please don't take my Rovers away !

No improvement
No passion
No plan - defence weak midfield non existant and JR is like a chicken running his socks off - he must have less service this season so far than any forward ever at Ewood
Where does the club go from here - forget about promotion this season stabilise and plan so that next season we have team able to compete both in this league and the Premiership - you just have to have a dream cos too many nightmares at Ewood recently

Time for some Rovers fans to grow some ****'x - all the shouts for Berg Out are pathetic. You just cant run a football club if you sack every manager we have if they lose a couple of games. The Kean Out protests built-up over two years and were totally justified but now some fans want Berg out after two months. Unbelievable! No wonder the scum up the road are having another laugh at us. And that is out of order. Just like the Berg out shouts are.
The truth is that even Mick McCarthy is getting more out of the poor Ipswich squad that he inherited. Usually a new manager has a honeymoon period but Berg hasn't even had a wedding night fumble!!
People point out that he working with somebody else's squad but he had the loan window to strengthen some key areas that were glaringly obvious(right winger, centre half/midfield) but he goes and gets a bolke to start on the left wing when we have about 6 people who could play there!
Scott Dann has the fans calling for his blood with an abject peformance against Cardiff , so what does Berg do? He gives him the captain's armband!!
Alan Wright on Radio Lancs commented that he felt the players lack any commitment of effort for most of the game but Berg comes out and praises them for their attitude! The more I listen to him the more he is sounding like Steve Kean.(I honestly believe that we would be better off points wise if Kean was still in place-which I didn't want by the way!).If we can't sack him, can we not insist that he at least wears a wig because the thought of watching another inept bald manager standing in the technical area is too hard to take!!

He took over and we were 10th in the league, in a period of two years he sold the entire first team squad and replaced them with cheaper imports but with larger agents fees. He made a fortune in outgoing sales even managing to sell some of his own buys to boot as he had a percentage sell on contract, hence all our players sold on. He then gets us relegated after failing to address any blindingly obvious shortfalls in the squad and pocketing a large sum in sales cut. Now after you brought Lewis hamilton in ( Berg ) to drive your mini moke ( Rovers Car after keans tinkering ) you want to get Kean ( monkey mechanic) back.

The names included many English and foreign managers who had far better managerial track records / CV's than Henning Berg.
Surely by applying or registering their interest in the Rovers vacancy these managers wanted the job.
At the interview stage any manager worth his salt would then have demanded the final say on team affairs, selection, transfers etc. and made sure that Shebby was kept well away.
As I posted several times during the 5 week search, the Board were obsessed on appointing an ex-player as the new manager.
I presume this was in the hope that he would possibly re-unite the club.
This was the wrong policy and we are now suffering as a result.
Earlier in the season Shebby talked publicly about the points target he had set for Steve Kean but Berg's only target was to gain promotion this year.
Based on his performance over the past 9 games this is not going to happen.
Shebby, Agnew and Shaw have a lot to answer for.
If we lose at home again next Saturday - what then?

He doesn't come accross as an 4rse licker, he doesn't sweeten things up, and he doesn't tell blatant lies, so we're streets ahead of our previous disaster.
Mr Berg has to work with shirky singh, which cannot be easy, considering he knows it all. He also has a load of unwanted players who came for an untrustworthy manager, and he has the job of sifting through and trying to get some match time out of the best of a bad bunch.
There's probably no one on the planet who could make things work without a lot of luck considering the moral sapping two years of missguided hell the players have been through, but we have some honesty and integrity which is a start.
The club will never be efficient whilst it has liars and cheats in charge so the best we can hope for is a mediocrity, Mr Berg has an uphill task working for the dregs of society, he will need all the luck he can get, I want him to steady the ship, I'm sure he will if he gets some more time.

In a nutshell. We don't want Kean and are happy he has gone. He was not completely without talent but he had no chance of filling Big Sam's boots. Henning Berg seems a decent guy and was a great footballer but he is not a manager, this must be clear to everybody now surely?

Instead of listening to vultures like Kean, Anderson and the likes (who saw Venkys coming a mile off) they should have listened to the people that knew the club inside out. Oh but no, they thought they knew best.
The damage is almost complete. Jacks legacy is all but destroyed by those parasites. The one last saving grace we have is that Berg surely realises what Kean was in denial about and that he is out of his depth. It pains me to say that about a playing legend but after Cardiff and the 'Pool on Saturday I am without doubt Bergs bit of far more than he can chew.
If Singh and his cronies want to win the fans over, they need to get on hands and knees, break the bank (whats left in it) and beg Hughes or Souness to come back and sort out this bunch of unfit, uninspired, overpaid journeymen (Etuhu,Murphy spring to mind) and hope they can rescue the worst season since I started watching Rovers as a kid back in 1982.
You're right about Kean by the way, he was very talented - in the art of manipulation, propaganda, lying and backstabbing.

In a nutshell. We don't want Kean and are happy he has gone. He was not completely without talent but he had no chance of filling Big Sam's boots. Henning Berg seems a decent guy and was a great footballer but he is not a manager, this must be clear to everybody now surely?
If Venkys want to appoint a Blackburn ex then there is one available MH.
Get Eric Black back to fill in ASAP
What is going on in the Venkys minds? Surely they must be aware of the damage they have done

As far as defence I would get shut of Dann Hanley and get replacements for these 2 if robbo can find a club let him go
I couldnt agree with you more, spot on.

Crushed.
Arte et labore
Had I not left, as I said, for the first time ever at the 81st minute then I would have witnessed Givets dereliction of duty, but throughout the game, and not to contradict here, Givet, as always gave it his best shot considering he had been sidelined for - how long ?
Givets worst performance would still stand out as to the best performance by that destroyed fellow Dann !
Arte et labore which in these circumstances falls far below the standard for BRFC - thus I get your point well made.

Time for some Rovers fans to grow some ****'x - all the shouts for Berg Out are pathetic. You just cant run a football club if you sack every manager we have if they lose a couple of games. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS KEAN RESIGNED AND TWO COACHES GOT APPOINTED AND BOTH EX-PLAYERS .
ONE THE PERSONAL DISASTER AND PATHETICLY INEPT AT COACHING HENDRY , WHO ARRIVED WITH THE FANFARE AND COMMENTS OF " I`VE CAME BACK HERE TO SORT THIS DEFENCE OUT AND TO STOP IT LEAKING IN GOALS ,I`M HERE TO HELP STEVEN (KEAN) "
THE OTHER PERSON THAT HAS CAME IN WHEN KEAN RESIGNED WAS ANOTHER EX PLAYER HENNING BERG , BOTH EX PLAYERS , QUESTION IS ,
WHO IS THE PERSON THAT ULTIMATELY MADE THE DECISIONS TO BRING THESE TWO GUYS IN ?
WHO BROUGHT THESE TWO /
MOST OF US WOULD ASSUME IT WAS SHEBBY SINGH , THE GUY WHO HAS NOT A CLUE ,AND THINKS THAT WE CARE MORE ABOUT EX PLAYERS COMING BACK TO ROVERS THAN WE DO ABOUT OUR FOOTBALL CLUB BEING SUCCESSFUL.
SHEBBY WE DO NOT GIVE A MONKEYS ABOUT EX PLAYERS ,GET RID OF BOTH OF THE CLOWNS.
PLAYERS ,EX PLAYERS ,THE MODERN DAY FOOTBALLERS ARE JUST MONEY HUNGRY GREEDY PEOPLE, APART FROM THE GUYS FROM WAY BACK IN THE 50/60/70` S , THE GUYS FROM OR AROUND OUR HOME TOWN ,THE PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO BE WEARING A ROVERS SHIRT ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
I wanted Holloway or McCarthy in , but guys that have successful history and experience in what it takes to get out of this league.
ALL YOU WANT TO RM7/RUinsane the one and same IS GET ROVERS TO SPEND/SPEND /SPEND SO YOUR AGENT BOSS CAN RAKE MORE MNEY IN FROM ROVERS ,AND NO DOUBT EARN YOU A FAT BONUS FROM YOUR BOSS , WE CLEARLY HAVE LIMITED FUNDS NOW , ANY MONEY SHOULD BE KEPT TILL EITHER BERG PROVES HE CAN DO THE JOB,OR WE GET A NEW MANAGER IN WITH EXPERIENCE AND A PAIR OF BALLS.

No more changes in the managers seat now - let Berg sort out the clubs players and staff, get them fit, get the wasters and rubbish out and bring in the players in the critical positions that everyone can see we need. No way are Rovers going to change managers again now and neither should they. Time for some strength on and off the field..

I said initially HB needs time to cleanse the club of the Keane legacy and I'll stick with that. You can't undo in a matter of weeks what's been done over two years . Trouble is, his chances of ever doing it - or anyone else's for that matter - are seriously hindered by the idiots running the show.

If, at the end of January, we still have the same squad we have major problems and will be lucky to stay in the Championship. For reasons that the fans will never know, he was allowed to continue and also worse than that, brought in players that just do not cut the mustard. Had we done the right thing, after relegation and appointed the right manager, who could have then used the money available to bring in players capable of playing in the championship, we would not be in this mess now.
To compound the problem of leaving Kean as manager, the next HUGE mistake was sending the so called saviour, Shebby Singh. I have never in over 40 years of watching football, heard anyone talk so much hot air. His first fans meeting resulted in him having to apologis to the manager and the players for his insults to them and his latest public airing on Radio Lancashire was nothing but an embarrasment. With him running the show on behalf of the clueless owners, the future will be bleak or none existent!
