Singh promises 'decisive action'
10:40am Wednesday 12th December 2012 in News
Exclusive By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers chief Shebby Singh has vowed “decisive action” will be taken to arrest their Championship slump – with members of the club’s coaching staff believed to be the first in the firing line.
Rovers’ global advisor held crisis talks with boss Henning Berg, managing director Derek Shaw and operations director Paul Agnew on Monday night to discuss a run of just one win in eight matches leaving them four points outside the play-off spots.
Singh, pictured above, declined to comment on what action had been decided on but the Lancashire Telegraph understand Berg, whose position is safe at the moment, has been told to search for new coaching staff.
Assistant Eric Black, first team coach Iain Brunskill and goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms are all believed to be being lined up for an exit, although all remained in their posts last night and in the dark about the reports.
Colin Hendry is understood to be set to assist reserve team boss Gary Bowyer, with Berg already understood to have told Singh who he wants to bring in.
The Lancashire Telegraph also under-stands Rovers’ players will be warned to improve their performances or face a January clear-out as Singh and hisemployees grow increasingly concerned at a fading promotion push.
Singh said: “After a 4-1 home defeat and a performance and a result like that it is inevitable there was going to be a post mortem, after 21 games as well.
“We discussed and deliberated things, myself, Henning, Derek Shaw and Paul Agnew and they were serious and intense discussions where every subject was talked about.
“Everything from under performing players, to unhappy players to backroom, management and coaching staff. “Things had to be debated and everything is now very clear, now we know the direction we are heading in and what decisions have to be taken. “Decisive decisions and actions were needed and they will be taken, I just ask fans to respect our wishes for a bit of time to bring them into fruition.
“I can’t and won’t talk about specifics. After 21 games, it is natural this was the time for a post-mortem and that means every individual has to be assessed. We assessed everything and made some decisions.
“The pressure is on. We did not expect this to be easy and it hasn’t been but the decisions have been made that need to be made.”

I see Keanochio walked straight into another position as he was so in demand. the problem we have is kean and co bought to much deadwood now we have to pot another half dozen poor signings as the ones that have left were better than what we have now.

At the end of the day Kean has gone but the attitude remains negative, Ewood is a morgue, the owners absent and every-time Shebby opens his mouth he puts both feet in it.
All Keans back-room staff are associated with the failures from last season, they need to go because Berg needs to know his back-room team is supporting him.
So Shebby is right, I just wish he would keep his mouth shut and let Berg get on with what he has to do.

Just hope that Berg has a good 'off' the field' team lined-up to come in.
Getting rid of people from three key backroom/training/st
aff positions at this stage of the season is a very risky strategy. I feel it is hard especially on Bobby Mimms who Sam Allardyce brought in to the club. Mimms has helped three or four young keepers develop into excellent professionals for us in the four years he has been at Ewood. He wont have any problems getting another club. Good luck Bobby.
Maybe it would have made more sense- then all the disruption is done and dusted in one go. But then it wouldn't be normal for Rovers to do things the easy way.

What a bunch of idiots. Decisive action should have been taken 2 years, that way we might not be in this mess now. I can't believe it's taken so long to realise that the coaching staff aren't up to it. They've been here since "he who shall not be named" was in charge and during that time we've sunk further and further into the mire...
We're in a mess...

Throwing money at big signings isn't the answer. The atmosphere inside the club needs renewal, dead-wood removed, a return to sensible management structure etc etc.
I believe the best way forward (which I'm sure Venky's would never do) would be to:
1. Apologise to the fans for what they've done to Rovers.
2. Apologise to John Williams/Tom Finn etc.
3. Invite them to return, at least in the short term, to oversee the re-building.

This bunch of idiots took 5 weeks to identify Berg as the man to lead Rovers back to the Premier League this season.
Lets be honest, if most Rovers fans had been asked to name 10 people to succeed Kean I am certain that Berg's name would not have appeared in the 10.
I would dearly like to know how they arrived at their choice ahead of;-
1) international and former international team managers such as Trapattoni & Schuster,
2) experienced Premier League Managers such as Holloway & McCarthy,
3) successful overseas maagers such as Solskjaer,
I along with most Rovers fans were repared to give Berg our full support but I am afraid that after 8 games in charge Berg has done nothing to change my opinion that he was the wrong choice for Blackburn Rovers.
Just 5 points from a possible 24 is relegation form and we look nothing like a side that will challenge for promoton this year.
I will admit that he inherited an unbalanced and unfit squad of players
but he has done the impossible and got less out of the current squad than ether Kean or Black.
His team selections, formations use of substitutes have been very poor and warning bells ought to be sounding loud and clear.
If we lose on Saturday we ought to cut our losses now before giving him any money to spend in January and bring in Mark Hughes as soon as as posssible.
After all Hughes ticks the only box that appears to count to this Board - he was an ex-player.

He'd also make a good stalwart in defence, and possibly a defensive leader.
To be fair though, at least they're doing this sooner rather than later, normally they'd make a 'decisive action' in march when promotion would be impossible.
A fire sale is needed too. Some players are way below par and I'm pretty sure Berg knows a quality player seeming as he's played with a fair few. Fingers crossed.

And what is the talk still of Trappatoni and Schuster? We are not now in their league! Have a look at the BBC page chronicling the downfall of Bradford from their time in the Premier League. That is where we may well be heading.

We simply have too many over the hill players in the squad and the team.
I personally believe we need to get rid of all players over 30ish as the game of football is faster and more energy is required.
over 30ish players simply cannot do...
Our teams are too soft to play against, we are simply spineless, gutless.
We need players who are hard, tough like Batty, Sherwood, etc.....players who can command the centre and dictate the play.
we need hardened players especially for the championship.
We def. need 2 central midfielders are are fast, skill full and young/energetic enough to last 90 minutes.
we need at least one central defender who should be quality.
we need a captain, A general.
ROBINSON is still okay & experienced
DANN is very poor
HANLEY is young and ok as backup
MURPHY is dead wood
ETUHU is dead wood
Dunn is old, slow and past it
too many other old & slow players in the team....get rid of
you only need a few elders in the squad.....In my view....!!
The young new players should be kept on, although not capable as yet for 1st team, maybe so for the future as they come from impoverished backgrounds and BRFC will have to build the young ones up....!!!
what do you think..??
agree/ disagree..?? your views plz.!

It’s a forlorn hope warning the players to improve their performances – or else. Sadly, they are not up to it and the damage and despair that Venky’s have inflicted on the club now runs so deep that it will take years, if ever, to put things right.
If only Venky’s – that very name will haunt 25,000 Blackburn Rovers supporters forever – hadn’t bulldozed their way into Ewood flattening everything in their path and instead had carefully taken stock of the entire club and how it was run things would have been a lot different today.
The club’s infrastructure would have been intact, John Williams and Tom Finn would have been efficiently running the club for them, they wouldn’t have been ill-advised and robbed by agents, we would have been financially sound and still in the Premiership - and, yes, very likely in the top ten with players who were heart and soul in the club.
There wouldn’t have been a scattergun and hopeless transfer policy and our players would still have been proud to pull on the famous Blackburn Rovers shirt. You have destroyed all that and now you are fire-fighting in the hope that you can turn things round. Sorry, too late.
Venky’s have been repeatedly bombarded by a crescendo of warnings since the day they sacked Sam – simply because Agent Anderson wanted him out of the way. But they knew best.
Yes, you have every right to be concerned. But all your problems are self-inflicted – and Venky’s were constantly warned about their catastrophic mismanagement. Nothing would stand in their way.
John Williams was on his way out of the door when he very politely and constructively questioned Venky’s management policy. Further down the line of mistakes, failure and deterioration, deputy ceo Paul Hunt was unceremoniously sacked because Venky’s didn’t like the truth he told them.
Amid it all, Steve Kean stood immune.
And still those mistakes are being made. Why do you think Henning Berg can simply ‘go out’ and find a new coaching staff to solve all the problems?
I, along with many others, warned you personally before the appointment of the new manager that you must appoint an experienced manager and back him with all the resources and support he required. It was your last chance. Again, good advice ignored. You knew best.
You say you know in which direction you are headed. I seriously doubt it.
The entire club will have to be overhauled if you are to have any hope of restoring it to what it was before two years of incomprehensible carnage.
Get John Williams back as chairman and ceo and Tom Finn to return as managing director, whatever it takes, and let them get on with the job of revival. I don’t know if even they would be able to do it, but it would be our best chance. There is certainly no confidence or hope with the current incompetent senior management structure.
Finally, folks, Colin Hendry, the biggest failure of all, WAS assisting Ian Bowyer with the reserves yesterday. So it looks like Kean’s man has inexplicably survived the cull.

I would dearly like to know how they arrived at their choice ahead of;- 1) international and former international team managers such as Trapattoni & Schuster, 2) experienced Premier League Managers such as Holloway & McCarthy, 3) successful overseas maagers such as Solskjaer, I along with most Rovers fans were repared to give Berg our full support but I am afraid that after 8 games in charge Berg has done nothing to change my opinion that he was the wrong choice for Blackburn Rovers. Just 5 points from a possible 24 is relegation form and we look nothing like a side that will challenge for promoton this year. I will admit that he inherited an unbalanced and unfit squad of players but he has done the impossible and got less out of the current squad than ether Kean or Black. His team selections, formations use of substitutes have been very poor and warning bells ought to be sounding loud and clear. If we lose on Saturday we ought to cut our losses now before giving him any money to spend in January and bring in Mark Hughes as soon as as posssible. After all Hughes ticks the only box that appears to count to this Board - he was an ex-player.Mark Hughes has just spent nigh on 30 million and not won a game. The new management there were astonished at the disunity of the the players, some having to train on their own.Your opinion I know but I cant begin to see the logic.

Well, Shebby, you are now reaping what your and your employers have sown. If Venky’s had not torn up their takeover promises and cynically ripped the heart out of the club after vowing to respect the legacy of Jack Walker and keep the management team in place, you would not be in this black hole.
I can only think that Venkys did not understand what they were letting go when JW and TF went. A lot of bad stuff has happened for sure but we need to look forwards not backwards. Keep looking back and we will never make any progress. Number 1 hope is that Venkys sell the club soon but that is very unllikely - so Number 2 hope is that they can get to grips with the job of running BRFC in a proper manner now and on what we have seen so far then that is probably unlikely - so Number 3 hope is that I win the Euro Millions this week and can afford to buy the club. Within a week it would be Free season tickets for all Rovers fans, Free shirts and pies for all and Rooney, Ronaldo and Messi up front and that's just for starters...

The problem with BRFC squad.
The young new players should be kept on, although not capable as yet for 1st team, maybe so for the future as they come from impoverished backgrounds and BRFC will have to build the young ones up....!!!
what do you think..??
agree/ disagree..?? your views plz.!
..the whole pattern of play is dictated by Robinson’s big boot and poor distribution besides the lack of confidence he spreads.

HANLEY AND DANN ARE BOTH LOST CAUSES. IN ALL MY YEARS AT EWOOD I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH AN INEPT CENTRAL DEFENSIVE DUO.
SLOW, NO LEADERSHIP QUALITIES AND BOTH DON'T CONCENTRATE FOR THE FULL 90 MINUTES.
THEY ARE THE MAIN PROBLEM
GET 'EM BOTH OUT IN JAN AND REPLACE WITH AT LEAST SOME EXPERIENCE.
HANLEY NEEDS TO LOSE WEIGHT AND START CONCENTRATING ON BEING A PRO FOOTBALLER INSTEAD OF JUST THE HIGH LIFE THAT COMES WITH IT.

1. £££ (as Burnley found out to their cost with the appointment of Laws. The cheapest is never the best).
2. The position is now something of a 'poisoned chalice.'
The likes of Solskjaer wouldn't touch it with a bargepole and nor would any self-respecting 'established' figure.
My guess is you'll have to rely on the appointment of a 'young thruster' with promise, who's currently below the radar, or a has-been/never-will-

At least it would appear that after two years some reality may, and I say may, be afforded to we the fans. Mistakes have been made in bundles but it is not too late. We have all been saying for some time lets get rid of the old brigade put together by the genius Kean and get some decent backroom staff in especially a defensive coach and a fitness specialist. Give Berg the help he wants sell the players we do not need, and we all know who they are and buy a little bit of quality. I don't think if we use the loan system ,with agreed buy out clauses, that it needs to cost us mega money. Start with Palacios and see if Berg can use his contacts in Europe. Sell anyone if a decent price is offered and go on from there.Time dor a glass of that red stuff me thinks.

Well there might be ! But not anywhere near as rotten as the state of Blackburn Rovers .
Robert Coar is still a Blackburn Rovers board member , he failed in his efforts 20 years ago when he unsuccessfully tried to get on the board at Burnley , he and always has been a dingle.
Coar befriended Howard Walker ,because he likes rich people , but the question is ,why is he Howard Walker so desperate to get his 150,000 pounds back that Hendry owed him when Hendry went bankrupt ?
Surely H. Walker is rich enough to take the 150k on the chin and get the scoundrel out of Rovers.
Why do we have to keep the now hated Hendry at Rovers ?
Quite honestly the man should be locked up in jail for a long time for swindling , stealing and bashing up women.
Coar/Hendry/Singh/ clearly are running the pantomine now.
Are these clowns serious about releasing Eric Black Ian Brunskill, Bobby Minns , all honourable men and keeping Hendry , there is something stinking going on.
There is a definite some agenda going on , all the good men have left or are going and we are left with criminals.
Is Singh a sickly wee wimpy parrot who has not any honesty or integrity nor has an original thought between his ears ?

Some good points rover60 - but forget getting Williams and Finn back. They left and went on to much better things. To be fair their departure was not an unusual event as it is par for the course when a new owner takes over a company. They like their own people in place naturally but good owners would usually bed things in first before they get shut of any key staff.

Just listened to Hanley interview on LR - he must have been playing in different games to the one's I've seen - he says results start from a solid difence and we've played well and been unlucky - what a bloody joke!!!
As for Messrs Shaw and Agnew - in their senior rolls within the club part of their job is to over see due diligence in respect of day to day operations and of course the accounting procedures - yet another farcical situation when the Auditors cant even sign off the accounts because there isnt enough factual information to support a true set of figures - again an absolute sham!!!! And Agnew 'his own words' my new roll enables me to be more informative towards the fans - yet we never hear a bloody word from him - yes another overpaid idiot!!!!
Ewood park is on its way to becoming a complete morgue with this current Management Team - yes I am afraid they are the walking dead!!!!!!!
OUT WITH SHAW AGNEW SINGH BLACK AND ABSOLUTELY 'HENDRY' AND MAY BE BERG!!!!

Sure Berg was the cheap option, but you can't blame Berg for grabbing the chance to take over and he knew he couldn't immediately bargain for a better staff and player. He was obviously given a take-it-or-leave it choice. It seems that there are obvious untouchables for Berg, most likely silly contracts entered into by Keano and Shabby, and if you've got useless players on high wages in a weird way you've no option but to play them - most applicable to Etuhu and Murphy.
Berg clearly hasn't got the full backing of Venkys accountants back in Pune. Even the dimmest member of the Venky clan now realises they can never fullfill their initial mad idea that they could effortlessly cut a figure as the first Indians to own a Premieship high achieving team.
I imagine they already have their exit strategy ready as does motor-mouth Shabby. Berg remains our best chance of salvaging something from the wreckage. What that is dimishes weekly, at the moment most of us woud settle for surving in this division and Berg assembling a half-way decent team.
Grim, grim, those of us who feared Venkys would prove to be the end of our beloved over-achieving Rovers were right. There still the nightmare scenario of financial collapse.
I went to the Bolton game, my first of the season, and it was the worst atmosphere I've experienced amongst the fans, no hope, no expectation. It wasn't this bad when we were in the relegation zone of the old third division. Frequently under Kean I was annoyed and exasperated - last week I was just sad.
The sheer scale of finance needed to make a go of a provincial town team is beyond any scenario I can imagine for Rovers.
RIP

1) Don't let these four get together again, p**s up, brewery etc.
2) Let Berg have his own staff no matter how much, the Venkys have made a profit from us.
3) Let Berg get rid of players he doesn't want. If he is the manager he should be allowed to do this!

Well, Shebby, you are now reaping what your and your employers have sown. Remember that this coaching staff has been involved day to day with the preparation of a team that over the last two seasons has had the worst run of results ever seen at the Rovers for decades.
It has nothing to do with cost cutting and everything to do with sorting the club out and getting some decent staff in who can work together to put a decent team out on the pitch again.
Every one of these people that are mentioned must be culpable in some way in the demise of the club and the lower playing standards and lack of general match fitness that we have all witnessed over the last two seasons. Tough yes but it needs to be. This can be an important first step in improving things in general at Ewood. We all have to work hard to earn our salaries and we are judged on our performance no matter what job we are in. Football is a high profile results based profession and looking back at our results (or lack of) then these guys can have little complaint.

Riverside 7 wrote:I largely agree with your reasoned post with one exception:---- The selection process arriving at Berg was driven by two primary factors:
I believe the finger should also be pointing at the members of the Board who where responsible for Berg's appointment - namely Shebby, Shaw and Agnew.
1. £££ (as Burnley found out to their cost with the appointment of Laws. The cheapest is never the best).
2. The position is now something of a 'poisoned chalice.'
The likes of Solskjaer wouldn't touch it with a bargepole and nor would any self-respecting 'established' figure.
My guess is you'll have to rely on the appointment of a 'young thruster' with promise, who's currently below the radar, or a has-been/never-will-
be of McCarthy's/Hughes' stature.
Bottom line is that 'you get what you pay for.' Singh's short arms and long pockets will be the final arbiter.
With regard to Blackburn Rovers being a 'poisoned chalice', I am sure that the chance of managing any club in the Championship which is in receipt of parachute payments worth millions of pounds would always appeal to the likes of Mccarthy etc.
Is that not the reason why Dougie Freedman moved from Palace to Bolton?
No sensible, quality manager would take on the current state of affairs prevalent at the club. He'd be hamstrung by his 'bosses' and thus impotent to affect the future of the club. It's worse than a poisoned chalice.
If I'm proved wrong, then I'd be the first to wish you luck, but I just can't see it.
Bolton isn't ruled by/owned by non-football people and hasn't appointed an individual of the 'quality' of Sahib Singh !!

I am a realist though and we have to remember why we are in the championship in the first place - and that is cos we were rubbish in the prem last season. Yet we are STILL (unbelievably) higher in the table than the other 2 clubs that came down with us (Bolton & Wolves) and who the bookies tipped (along with us) as being among the favorites to go back-up. What a strange game this football thingy is....All is rotten in the state of Denmark, Blackburn, most of the championship and football in general it seems..

This means that money is being thrown down the drain and will finish up being a disaster for every one. Also the players seem confused with passing game going forward. Some unhappy players will have a genuine reason for being unhappy and this needs to be addressed. The others should be moved on if not doing the business and then complaining when not selected.
