Blackburn Rovers boss wants quality not quantity
10:05am Tuesday 11th December 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
HENNING Berg believes he will be allowed to improve his squad in the January transfer window – but insists he will be only bring in players who will improve the team.
The Blackburn Rovers boss is already on the look out for fresh faces next month but is adamant players won’t be brought in ‘just for the sake of it’ and says the club will remain within their financial limits.
Talks continue about changes to Henning Berg’s backroom staff, with certain personnel potentially leaving the club imminently. Rovers are expected to talk to Eric Black, Iain Brunskill and Bobby Mimms about their futures at the club today.
But Rovers are also looking at what they can do on the field to improve their Championship performances.
Berg has only enjoyed one win from his first eight games in charge, leaving Rovers four points adrift of the play-offs, and he says the opening of business at the turn of the year as an opportunity to help their efforts.
“It is natural that every manager in the world is assessing his squad and seeing if it is possible to improve his squad. We will be the same,” said Berg.
“If we can improve this team within our financial budget of course we will do it. Our goal is to get back in the Premier League and the January window it is a possibility to do something, if we find the right players for this team.
“I think we have to improve. At the top level we are good but at the moment we are a little bit indifferent. We need to play at our top level for longer periods.
“We have a lot of young players at this club. It is a very, very young team with potential so it is natural the performances are a little bit up and down.
“But we want to be promoted and that is why we are looking to improve. If we can improve the players that are here we will do that, if we can improve by making some changes in and out then we will do that. It has to be within our financial budget and it has to be players who can improve the team.
“Of course we are assessing things as we go on and we will make sure we do the right things in the future. Improving the team, improving the squad, making sure we put us in a position where we can be promoted.”
While Rovers will be looking to add to their squad, it is also likely a few of the fringe players will be allowed to leave to free up the wage bill.
Meanwhile, Berg has hailed the importance of securing teenager defender Adam Henley on a deal at the club until 2017.
He said: “Adam has done really well. We saw him do well at Anfield and Old Trafford last season. When he came back into the team he has showed those games were not a fluke.
“He showed he is a talented young right back and if he keeps playing well he will stay in the team. We are very happy we signed him on a longer contract to make sure we keeps the players we think we can improve and can be even better.
“Even though he had a year and a half left on his deal, with players you think can develop to be top players, you want them on long contracts to make sure if someone comes in they have to pay a lot of money to get them.”

No more forwards, we need to strengthen defence and build up midfield. Everyone from the fans to the management know what needs to be done.
Time for more action and less words.

No comments on Kean porto players?
Shabby watch football in TV and recurit players for sitting in the bench. Just to fill players seat. This is not going to happen. Get quality players to win games.
Berg Understands what it takes..Good

I see our defensive coach Hendry is'nt mentioned in the article above which I find amazing - in my book he's done nothing positive since his arrival and should also be up for the chop - then at least weve got shut of Keans cohorts and Berg can be judged accordingly. It will be interesting to listen to Shabby Singh on Radio Lancs tomorrow evening - if like his last appearance on the show his answers will be nonsensical!

Yeah with spring 'chickens' such as Robinson, Givet, Dunn, Pederson, Murphy and Gomez in the side then of course they are a young team.
I think Berg is a better long-term prospect as an agent than Kean ever was.
The king is dead - long live the king.

£5m turnover this year, part of parachute payments spent on JR. Still no actual outlay of cash from Venkys in thier tenure @ ewood. Another window with the usual tag lines "not rushing into this, prudent moves for the club, only improove the squad, bide our time, not pay over the odds", same every window and it all translates to, we'll put our hand in our pocket if we get a bargain, otherwise we won't be shelling out.
Some of the players in under Venkys:
Murphy
Etuhu
Orr
Nuno Gomez
Hoards of Portugese
Markus Ollson
Rhodes
Now apart from Rhodes name one that cost over £1m. Now name one who's "improved the team". The fear was originally when Venkys took over, will they invest money? And the answer is clearly no. The PL invested more than they have by giving us parachute payments for Rhodes. If you combine this with the fact that we have sold players like Nico Kalinic for £6m, Phil Jones for £18m, Samba for £10m, Yak for £1m, you really can't A) wonder why we got relegated B) Expect Venkys to spend money next window. They have asset stripped the club and done such a good job of it that only a few people have actually noticed.

As onlookers we can only rewind and see how they have taken us down.
Whislt it's happening people are suggesting many things, some a little stretched, but the tribe are quickly off the mark to scotch wrong doing rumors. This blurs the issue and makes it difficult to get the true picture.
The bottom line is; We were a quality unit, all the best has been isolated and sold for whatever, some have been shipped out through the side door, no one of any decency would come to this outfit, so they got rejects and just to prove to idiots that they weren't asset stripping they got JR.
It doesn't help when they put people with known low moral standards in high positions.
Whichever Manager came in would need lots of luck to succeed, the club is ruined.
In my opinion Berg is a better Man than Kean, but nobody steps aside and waves you through in football so it will take a long time if there is going to be success.
The Club is less than half of what it was when they arrived, in all departments.

The owner of Blackburn Rovers has warned "significant funding" will be required to run the club over the next 18 months and KPMG have raised concerns after receiving limited information from directors about the clubs finances.
Venky's London Ltd said "The amount of additional funding required will be dependent on the net proceeds of any player trading and bank facilities.
The report which covers the 18month period to 31 March 2012 said turnover was £80.4m while the club had made £20.4m in net profit on disposal of players. Pre-tax profit was £35,212.
However the clubs auditors at KPMG said information related to an investmentheld by the group worth £3.3m was "limited", and management was "unable to provide documentation relating to the financial position and performance of the company" in which the investment was made.
The annual report added " We have not obtained all the information and explanations that we consider necessary for the purpose of our audit, and we are unable to determine whether adequate accounting records have been kept.
Blackburn Rovers had not responded to a request for comment.

I don't think the issue is with bringing in the right players, it's more getting rid off the current crop of players who are simply not good enough for even the Championship, hence the financial limits.

And in the meantime the lowlife women basher ,granny swindler Hendry the so called defensive coach ,the guy who came back to Rovers saying he was back on board to help his best pal Kean to stop the goals leaking in ,hahaha what a joke ,Hendry is again immune to any blame on Rover`s poor performances
MY true belief , my genuine and honest belief is in this comment "there is underhanded evil greedy swindling scheming going on at Rovers , and one day we will see and know the underhanded business that is going on at Rovers .

All of the back-room staff are Kean's men.
Berg has to be given a chance to bring in his own choices of people both on and off the field its only then that we can see if he is capable of stabilising Rovers or not.

SCOTLAND legend Colin Hendry faces a police probe for taunting a couple with cruel texts about the £85,000 loan he failed to repay them.
Bankrupt Hendry, 45, bragged in a string of bitter messages he was spending the cash of former pals Hector and Williamina McFarlane’s on booze.
We told this month how the ex-Rangers idol also called Williamina “Miss Piggy”.
Last night Hector, 62, said they called cops over Hendry’s “sickening bullying”.
He's one of your own, that said, and in his defence, there's no mention of Philly fiddling. Despicable.

I guess we are going to see lots of rumours and links with players in the next few weeks so we had better get used to seeing some more speculation again in the press, just hope that HB can sort out the wheat from the chaff (inside and outside the club) and we get a decent team playing in blue and white again..

We still owe money for Jordan Rhodes and will probably off load some players in the transfer window and maybe get a few Norweigen players on loan.
(players who have played under Berg).
Im pleased to hear Berg may be getting his own back room staff in as we definitely need someone who can help our defence as Hendry couldn't even train a flea how to jump.
I am a season ticket holder and work shifts, I was supposed to be working on Friday night but used 7hrs of my personal leave so I didnt miss the game
I watched a half hearted performance off most of the players and came home feeling like we have more chance of being relegated again than getting back into the premier league.
I do hope Henning can sort it out and I for one will give him a few more months to prove himself and see what he brings in during the transfer window.
Im Rovers till I die but Im feeling so fed up at the moment.
I feel like we are fighting a losing battle.

Friedel would make a good short term replacement for Robinson who does not command his box in the ariel contests and tends to knock the ball back out instead of out to the wings.
Murphy is another how do we off load him probably impossible now as every other club realise his legs have gone but we do need some form of replacement with youth and energy.Come on Henning you must have some clues to the quality available in Scandinavia there must be better quality available at cheaper prices than over here.
