FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 1 Bolton Wanderers 2
9:43pm Wednesday 28th November 2012 in News
BLACKBURN Rovers were beaten by Lancashire rivals Bolton Wanderers at Ewood Park tonight.
Former Rovers striker Kevin Davies collected a pass from Chris Eagles before firing home after only two minutes at Ewood Park.
Lee Chung-Yong then doubled Bolton’s lead on the hour mark after Paul Robinson had saved Eagles’ initial effort.
Jordan Rhodes pulled a goal back with eight minutes left but Rovers could not find an equaliser.

Rovers were in the top three when Steve Kean left and one of the top-scoring teams in the land.
Hands up those who would now like him back?
Of course, Big Sham should never have been fired if all we ever wanted was to be guaranteed Premier League football.
But since then... chaos reigns on both sides of the touchline.
All those fans who willed the club down last season in a bid to get shut of him might now care to remember that in a sport of very fine margins between success and failure, that had we scored those two penalties against Everton in August and then not lost to a penalty that never was in the last minute, chances are we would never have gone down.
Two wins against WBA last season, as per the previous season, would have kept us up, too.
Maybe a bit less hatred in the infamous game against Bolton last winter would have saved us. It's all ifs and buts now.
So, who's the next manager going to be then if, as seems likely, our old hero Henning Berg isn't going to cut the mustard?
After all... we're getting closer to the drop than the top.
At one point do we call for Pep G to come and do a King Kenny?

Murphy and Etuhu - total PANTS.
Josh King - worst starting debut in living memory.
"Snailman" Formica - what does he ACTUALLY achieve - he just runs about (slowly) but for a £3.5m player - wheres the end product ??
This 4-4-1-1 tactic that St Ruben our saviour is SO good that EVERTHING is going to come through him - is tactically TERRIBLE and not a proper game plan for this level.
Etuhu is so bad that when JL came on we actually got back into the game cos the central midfield area got back around 50-50 rather than 65-35 in Boltons favour.
How he dosent pick - Givet, Vukevic, Pederson, Gomes etc is a total mystery to me.
And defensively we are terrible - no closing down, no tracking runners, no marking from set pieces - time for the coaches Black and Hendry to be moved on and others to be brought in.
Dingles are smelling blood and who can blame them, we have a tanlentless, gutless group of over-paid has beens (take a bow, Danny Murphy) or massively over-rated never beens (Like St Ruben) led by a manager who dosent seem able to pick our best starting 11 nor get his tactics right.
He needs to sort it our QUICK or I fear Venkys won't show him the same leniency and patience they showed his predecessor.

The worrying thing about HB is that he has made some incorrect team selections and tactics - fair enough, it happens when you don't know your players very well.
However, so far he keeps making the same mistakes - over and over and that is NOT the sign of someone who is going to make it as a top manager.
Top managers all make mistakes but the learn QUICKLY and don't keep repeating those mistakes.
Come on Henning - Honeymoon period is over - learn from your mistakes and start picking the CORRECT starting 11 and right team tactics.

However, a managers job is to get the best out of those players he has at his disposal no matter how good or bad the squad is and so far Henning has failed to do this (5 points from 6 games makes this self evident).
He needs to start picking the best team, get the tactics right and get the players to close down, mark-up, track-back (ie "the basics") - then he might start to make a silk purse our of this pigs ear of a rag-tag squad.

Murphy and Etuhu cannot play in the same side, in fact Etuhu should be out of the squad
There is so much wrong, no width, no energy, we do not look like a team.
Berg is becoming very disappointing; his tactics are appearing to be non-existent.
We are playing the exact same way as Black played, the system does not work yet he keeps using it and with the same players!
How he didn’t change the system until 70 mins is beyond me, yes he took Etuhu off but early but did not change the shape of the side.
Givet needs to return along with Pederson, and Vuckevic must be worth a try
I mean really what has changed?
Berg is coming across as just another Venkys stooge, all the dire coaching staff are still there
Where are his own men, his own coach who drills the players with his vision for the game
Very worrying for me, no change at all apart from the nutcase no longer being there to hysterically laugh at!

Midfield is a shambles, we cannot afford to play Murphy and Etuhu falling over each other in the same area much better when Jason Lowe came on, at least there was some bite then.
Pedersen whipped in some decent crosses after he came on and although I don't like Kazim Richards, only because I don't think he is a team player, I think he should start against the crud on Sunday, he will scare the **** out of them.
Sadly it's going to be like this until the transfer window opens and Henning can move some of Keans miss-matches on and bring his own players in.
After that we can start to judge him, to do it before is totally unfair on the guy.

The six fingered bastards may well get a result against us but if we can repeat the last championship game against them at Ewood in March and maybe even make the play offs it may be forgotten on our part. They won't drop it for another 30+ years but we all know that club has **** all in terms of prospects once Austin has moved in January.

Irrespective of where the money came from they did make funds available for Rhodes, Murphy, Etuhu, Gomez, etc. so we can only hope, but I suspect HB will already have several players in mind, but will also play his cards close to his chest.
We need a big, strong centre half who commands the box, and a Robbie Savage type midfielder who will get struck in and shake both teams up on the day, in other words we need a real leader on the pitch, something we don't have right now.
For 75 minutes or so tonight we were awful and actually made what is a pretty crap team (Bolton) look like Barca, that takes some doing and can't continue.
I am not all that worried about the crud on Sunday but if we play like that against a decent side like Cardiff next Friday we will get absolutely slaughtered.

Regarding Henning Berg it gives me no pleasure to say, I told you so. I am not being negative, only expressing the facts. Other than being a very fine footballer his main proven skills are being a TV pundit. I may be wrong but he now as a worse record for this season than Kean and Black??
NOT blaming the players. Murphy was again a liability but other than that, reasonably satisfied by everybody else.
Don't want a training coach or a second team coach or a TV pundit, just a regular experienced manager. Its not that difficult to rectify.
The whole situation stinks and the owners are responsible for it all.

"For us to expect to win the game by starting that way is very frustrating, very surprising and nowhere near where we want to be.
"We have enough experience to know that when we start the way we do we give ourselves a mountain to climb and at the moment we're not good enough to get back into it."
"It can't be too difficult (to pick them up), we're playing Burnley," he said. "Everybody knows what that means for everybody - the fans, players, staff.

il last night !
An absolute joke. Full of players who lacked cohesion and lacked the will to win.
Murphy and Etuhu in midfield were the biggest joke. Totally uncommitted and no sign all night that they can tackle.
We need a big change for Sunday, starting with the midfield. Things only improved, slightly, when Lowe and Pederson were introduced later in the game. So lets start with them in the team, along with Dunny, if he can be prised from the treatment table. Would rather have him in midfield 80% fit than carry on with Murphy and Etuhu.
Disappointed with Rochina last night too, as his choices again last night were poor, as was his overall play.
For me the team on Sunday should be:
Robinson
Henley
Givet
Dann
Ollsen
Pederson
Lowe
Dunn
Formica
Rhodes
Gomes
We definately need to play 4-4-2 and use out and out strikers to get onto balls from Pederson and Dunn.
Final point, we need to work on set pieces, especially corners, as these were awful last night !

He retained the same defence that has not kept a clean sheet since he arrived, he kept the same central midfield partnership that has not worked in 19 games, and again started with Rhodes isolated on his own up front.
His substitutes Lowe, Pederson and Kazim-Richards did improve the team late on but they should have been introduced much earlier as it was abundantly clear early in the 1st half that things were not working.
Rochina had a very poor game (but he was not on his own) and I do not understand why we are persisting with Formica on the right.
Not for the first time this season we did not look as fit as the opposition and this can probably be traced back to the club dispensing with the services of our fitness coach last season.
Bolton’s appetite to work hard and press the ball high up the park was in direct contrast to our slow play.
I simply do not believe that Murphy and Etuhu have the energy to chase the ball down anymore.
We need players who are prepared to battle for the club.
At the moment I feel apprehensive about Sunday and have doubts whether Berg can motivate or select the right team for the derby game.
It is now just 5 points from a possible 18 which is more like relegation form.
I never understood what in Berg’s management record persuaded the Board to appoint him as manager when clearly his fellow Norwegian OGS had a much better CV.
By the way, Molde have just retained the Norwegian League title.
In closing I would like to ask the club a couple of questions.
1) Where were the 7 Portuguese players we signed in the summer last night?
2) And who at the club was responsible for signing them all?

Mr Berg. Please ignore the failed Bollywood film extra and pick your own team on ability and not what money has been wasted on players. Change the players and formation to suit the team we are playing lke both Millwall and Bolton did in closing down Rochina after he had bossed the game at Peterborough.
Unfortunately if things are not changed for Sunday and Austin is not picked up by defence and midfield alike there is no saying how many he can score.
Irrespective of what happens though, it is still upto us as supporters to get behind the team to try and give them as much vocal support as possible.
