Blackburn Rovers close to sealing King loan deal
10:08am Thursday 22nd November 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers were last night waiting for the green light from their owners Venky’s to complete the loan signing of Manchester United striker Josh King.
The 20-year-old Norwegian international is understood to have all but agreed personal terms with Rovers for a loan move until January, with a view to a permanent switch, and it is hoped it will be sealed before the 5pm close of today’s emergency transfer window.
The 5ft 11ins striker featured in United’s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray in midweek and has also represented the Old Trafford outfit in the League Cup.
King, who was born in Oslo, has also enjoyed loan spells at Preston North End, German side Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hull, and has scored once in four appearances for Norway. He can also play on the wing.
Manager Henning Berg has been a big admirer of his Norwegian compatriot while his friendship with United boss Alex Ferguson has also helped in the deal.
The final decision will remain with co owners Anuradha Desai, Balaji Rao and Venkatesh Rao, but it is hoped they will rubberstamp the move this morning.
Berg has already vowed not to attempt to sign players who won’t add to the quality of the squad but it is understood he believes King will provide a valuable option.
Rovers have been looking for a striker to provide £8million man Jordan Rhodes with some support, with summer signing Leon Best not expected to be fit until January at the earliest.
Assistant boss Eric Black had attempted to bring Stoke’s Cameron Jerome to Ewood Park during his spell as caretaker manager but that move was never passed by the club’s Indian owners.
Meanwhile, Rovers boss Berg believes his squad will have grown in belief after Saturday’s 4-1 Championship demolition of Peterborough.
“It was a fantastic feeling seeing the goals go in,” said Berg. “The finishing, the quality was good to see.
“Performances had been good before that but we didn’t have enough quality in the final third to win the game but we knew we had the potential to do that.
“To see it was encouraging and hopefully will give the players even more belief that the way we are playing, we are good enough and we can really challenge.
“We have ambitions, we want to be back in the Premier League and to do that you need a big squad. All these players have just got back from injury but we need quality in depth.”

Aparently Allardyce is interested in bringing him to West Ham. Personally I think he's West Ham's style of play and we could have Friedel until Kean is ready to step up

Bring Friedel back asap.
One can never have enough quality, and in Brads case world class.
Should Robbo be the casualty of this projected move then I would be very sad. Robbo as had a torrid time in front of him these last few years, and yes, Robbo does have his faults that are highlighted regularly, but him and Friedel competing can only be a massive plus for BRFC ?
As for the King loan from Utd bring it on.
Lift off.....
Swan anyone ?

Can't blame him for leaving and getting his final paydays at other clubs but I'm not sure whether its to replace robbo (is he off elsewhere and we need an experienced replacement) or to give him competition? Will it upset the applecart, who knows but we have to trust HB.
I didn't know anything at all about Josh King but I've spoke with a friend who's utd through and through and he's very very highly thought of. He's surprised that there could be an option to buy permanently so again, we'll have to trust HB.
So far so good and 6 points in the next two games will do nicely.
I love my new found optimism.

Friedel was never meant to be a long-term solution for Spurs when he joined the club from Aston Villa in the summer of 2011. He immediately impressed then manager Harry Redknapp, however, and became Tottenham's first-choice 'keeper before the start of the campaign. Friedel excelled in goal throughout 2011-12, and the only criticism he received from fans/analysts involved his not coming off his line on set piece scenarios.
I forgot till I read that article that Rovers fans used to be critical of Brad for the very same reasons - a great shot-stopper but a bit like Dracula and afraid of crosses.
We already have Robbo who loves staying on his line....do we need another keeper like that?!

As for Friedel if he comes in as second choice keeper/coach then all well and good - perhaps then we can see the likes of Mimms and Hendry on their way which would be good for the club moving forward.
