Berg won't be rushed into loan market
1:59pm Tuesday 6th November 2012 in News
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
HENNING Berg insists he won’t be making any panic moves into the loan market just yet as he uses a busy next week to fully assess his squad.
Ahead of this evening’s Championship trip to Huddersfield Town, Rovers’ new boss concedes the club are a ‘little short’ on strikers at the moment but is adamant it would be unfair on everyone to make instant changes.
With Nuno Gomes struggling to be fit for the trip, Jordan Rhodes remains the only out and out striker available for the clash against the Terriers – but Berg wants to see what his current players are capable of.
Caretaker boss, and now Berg’s assistant, Eric Black had attempted to bring in Stoke striker Cameron Jerome on loan during his month at the helm, but Berg won’t be thinking about reinforcements until he knows what he has at his disposal.
Berg said: “We would like to score goals. We want to do well and win many, many games and the more goals we score the better. At the same time, we are short in terms of numbers of strikers.
“We will see how it develops. My main focus this week has been the players who are fit and the players who are here now. I need to get to know them 100 per cent, see them in games, making sure we do everything we can to win.
“You would like to introduce a few ideas of how we want to do things. For me, it is more like the short term at the moment and then next week it is easier to think about a little about the full squad. because I have seen players, seen them in training. So those who haven’t had the chance to play in the team, get their chance.
Players like Simon Vukcevic.?
“I don’t know what he will do, but I know his history,” added Berg.
“He is a regular for the Montenegro first team so he is a good player and he showed that when he came on as well. I thought the lads who came on did well.
“It would not be fair on anyone if I didn’t assess what we had here first before we start thinking about loan players. It wouldn’t be fair on the club because the last thing you want to do is get someone in and not play them.”
Rovers backroom staff is also unchanged since the previous regime, with Berg taking a similar view about them.
“I will use this period to assess everyone and work with everyone.” he said. “I am working with everyone who is here and then we will take it from there.”
Berg is the first to admit Rovers have to improve after a miserable2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday, both offensively and defensively.
He believes Huddersfield will be another tough test and is relishing coming up against his former Rovers team mate Simon Grayson, who is now in charge of the Terriers.
He said: “We were here at the same time and I think the way his teams play shows a lot about him as a person. He was always hard working, always honest. He was not always happy not playing but he always did his best.
“He is a good lad and I have spoken to him over the years. He came to Norway when he was doing his coaching badges, when I had my team there. “It is good to see him as a manager and getting up last season, scoring a lot of goals and playing very direct football. They still are quite direct although this season they have changed a bit.
“You need hard work in every league. You go to the best teams in the world and they still work hard. You need quality as well. It is not one or the other.”

Goodwillie for instance, why did his loan period end so suspiciously early?? Did Palace get sick of lining a certain agent's pockets??
.
Then there was Spursgate...where there was not one single shot on target (first time in over 10 years). We had players coming off and winking at the bench. Have there been illegal betting patterns in the far east??
.
If there are players that are aware of untoward - and possibly illegal activity - then it would be better for them to come forward NOW before ending up in a prison cell....
