Redknapp set for Rovers talks

Harry Redknapp Harry Redknapp

HARRY Redknapp is due to meet Blackburn Rovers today to discuss the Ewood Park managerial vacancy – but Venky’s would have to offer him a lucrative package to stand any chance of landing him.

The former Tottenham boss will conclude Rovers’ interview process, after Rovers’ Premier League winner Henning Berg met with officials last night, as the end to their month-long manager-ial search looms ever nearer.

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is also understood to still be high up on Rovers’ shortlist but an official approach is only likely to be put in for him if they decide he is their man.

Managing director Derek Shaw is believed to be a big admirer of Holloway but global advisor Singh was determined to interview the other contenders before making a decision.

Singh had always favoured the idea of moving for a young and up coming manager, ideally with a Rovers connection, but Redknapp’s recent interest in the post has attracted his attention.

Huddersfield manager Simon Grayson and MK Dons boss Karl Robinson are understood to no longer be in the running, with Redknapp, Berg and Holloway now believed to be the three frontrunners.

As revealed exclusively in the Lancashire Telegraph on Thursday, Redknapp has wanted to discuss the job with the club and is expected to get his way today.

The man who was the favourite to be the England boss just six months ago – before Roy Hodgson was surprisingly appointed – is likely to put Singh and co through their paces and will want a number of assuran-ces before considering the position.

Redknapp is likely to want a significant transfer kitty for the January transfer win-dow to bolster Rovers’ squad for a Premier League push, with the prospect of moving north also a hurdle that would have to be to overcome.

Any deal for Redknapp would be ex-pected to be heavily loaded with bonuses for success on the field.

Rovers have already had approaches tur-ned down to speak to Fulham coach Billy McKinlay and Tottenham’s Tim Sherwood, with sections of supporters growing increasingly frustrated at the delay in replacing Steve Kean.

Singh last night stated an appointment would be made by the middle of this week and, with interviews coming to an end today, remains hopeful the search will be at an end within the next couple of days.

Since Redknapp’s interest was made known last week, large numbers of Rovers fans have grown increasingly excited by the prospect of the 65-year-old, with many believeing experience is the route to needed to secure an instant top flight return.

So after a month of deliberating we now have a short list which ranges from the guy most of the country (including the press) wanted to be England manager to an ex player who had a short and unsuccessful spell as a club manager in football-mad Norway! Do they have a clue what they are doing? It never ceases to amaze me how clubs can splash the cash on strikers and baulk at paying good money for a manager. If Redknapp is even willing to talk to us it shows his interest. Vencky’s could do themselves a big favour by being bold and going for broke with Harry. If he gets us back to the PL, gives us a high profile and draws the crowds it would be worth a fortune to the owners and who knows maybe even win over the fans (and pigs might fly!).

Henning Berg's record as a manager in Norway where the standard is far from 'Premier League' was nothing to boast about. Why would Rovers hire him just because he's an ex-player? If Redknapp proves too impossible to land, go for Holloway. He knows how to get much out of little.

If Redknapp arrives the following will happen...Players will give him immediate respect and their performances will improve by 15% or more, increasing their potential transfer revenues. Fan numbers will immediately increase. Sponsors, advertisers and corporate hospitality income will come back and more, new players will want to come to the club, the clubs reputation will be restored and the media will support Harry. It will however cost the club a lot of money, and there are no guarantees of promotion this year. Shebby, do what the club can, to secure this appointment, if you can make it attractive enough for Harry. Give him the brief to work with and develop a young future manager, Sherwood as his assistant possibly again if the club can afford it. And remember, this league is like quicksand, once you get stuck in it, its hard to get out, our best chance is at the first time of asking, and we are in a good position. Rednapp would give the whole club a new momentum that could get us back to the Premier League where you are guaranteed a minimum £60 Million income next year.

They can't afford Redknapp; he's playing games. Given the others they could have got and could still get Berg would be completely unsatisfactory and almost certainly a failure. Obviously there's some reluctance to go for Holloway (understandable given recent results) so they are in a bad place. Increasingly this reminds me of a batch of local councillors trying to appoint a primary school head. They are complete amateurs at the job that they are being paid to do. Very depressing.

I only hope Harry thinks that he has something to prove after being sacked at Spurs and he will take the job on.

However, after reading on teletext this morning that our bid to obtain Cameron Jerome on loan is in danger of breaking down because Rovers only want to pay half his wages, does not inspire confidence.

With this penny pinching approach we have absolutely no chance of getting Harry Redknapp.

Shebby - this is the one appointment that would unite all the fans
Offer him a lucative bonus if he gets us promoted and the club can't lose.

I would definitely not consider Berg as his record in the Norwegian League is only average at best.

If not Harry, then wait a little longer for OGS.

Whilst the news on these talks with Harry are exciting, I fear that should we not get him, then the person we do get will be on a hiding to nothing. You can imagine some of the comments fans now "Harry Redknapp would have done this/Harry Redknapp would never have done that".
On that basis, candidates like Henning Berg must be a no-no. If Harry fails to take the job then only a manager with his own proven track record will do.

Totally agree ,in addition if your looking to tap into that indian Market(1.2 billion people), which would massively increase revenues than who better than Redknapp, he has charisma and is a world name in football, could also see him bringing in some quality coaches, and maybe this is what Blackburn really wanted to talk to Sherwood about.

So would you prefer oblivion at a price? History shows that if a team is relegated from the Premier they'd better get back PDQ or they will keep on sliding to nowhere. If they went for Harry it would send out a clear statement of their intent and ambition. What message would it send out to recruit Berg? I read the link to Redknapp with mixed emotions, yes it would be massive to get him at Blackburn but at what cost, I feel the fans will go mad if we don't appoint him and shebby is clearly eager to win the fans over, but what if the club can't afford him, would we wanna see our club go the same way has Portsmouth or even the one club city Leeds, I'd rather us go for Holloway, I've read fans saying he wasn't a success before at QPR and Leicester which I agree with, however after he got the sack from Leicester he spent him time studying coaching from all over Europe regularly watching wenger at arsenal and coaches at Barcelona, this clearly made him an excellent manager, lets not forget Blackpool were favourites for relagation when he took over yet achieved promotion. The cheaper option is not always the worst.

I myself see this as the acid test for Venkys. If they have one of the top managers of the last ten years being interviewed for the position and they do not make him an offer - performance based - that he cannot refuse then it will confirm to me what I have suspected all along. They are trying to run the club on the cheap and I will stay away. If however I am proved wrong and Harry Rednapp becomes our next Manager the buzz and goodwill this will create will be huge and i and i suspect thousands more will return to Ewood Park knowing that the owners actually do have ambition for our club. Please do the right thing this time Venkys - this appointment is crucial to our club

Sign Berg or Holloway and you might as well pack your bags because the fans will hound you out.
You make your bed and you'll have to lie in it.

This is Shebbys big chance to completely turn things round if we can land 'Arry.

He clearly has some interest, which to be honest surprises me for a host of obvious reasons. I'm not holding my breath at 'Arry taking the job but it would be an outstanding first class appointment and give the club the huge injection of positiveness it is craving.

Berg wouldn't be in my reckoning. He's not proven and we can't afford to take the risk like we did with Harford, Kidd and Ince. However, if Berg got the job, he would get my 100% backing. Talk of boycotting now is down right ridiculous in my opinion. Venkys are going nowhere soon and boycotting is cutting your nose to spite your face.

If the worst manager in the history of Blackburn Rovers managed to scrape a few wins together in this league, then whoever the next manager is will be more than capable of giving us a fighting chance to get into the promised land. RTID!!!!

Reg now expects Blackburn Rovers to appoint ex- Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish (pic above) to the Ewood hot seat this week.
Eric Black will be retained as McLeish’s assistant.
It makes sense for the cash conscious Venky’s. No compensation to pay for the unemployed and available McLeish. Or to pay to a sacked Eric Black.
Only Shebby Singh stands in the way of the appointment, which would lead to Managing Director Derek Shaw quitting the club as the gulf between the two men grows.
Singh, who is looking for “the next big thing”. Wants to interview the Birmingham City Management team of 40 year old Lee Clarke, Liverpool and England legend Terry McDermott and former Blackburn Rovers Captain and England coach Derek Frazackerley. It is thought the trio would welcome a move away from troubled Birmingham City.
Shebby (open mouth then engage brain) Singh still holds hope of persuading Spurs to part with Tim Sherwood.
I however expect Shaw to win the day and appoint McLeish and retain the popular Eric Black.

Sorry about that, I posted on the wrong quote it was supposed to go on a dingle one higher up.

Note: Not one mention of Shearer from within Ewood....because he would bring in his own backroom staff!!

I have no doubt that a requirement will be to work with Shebby Singh's ESPN buddy Hendry.
According to you mr coffee then it seems like he has lots of chums this Colin Hendry? He must be a popular guy inside football at least?

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has ruled himself out of the Blackburn Rovers jobs.

There's a vacancy at Ewood Park since Steve Kean left the club last month.

Why are you are this page ? Your club has appointed a new manager today. Shouldn't you be posting comments on that rather than being obsessed with Rovers ?

Funny how anyone who doesn't agree with you Gaz is a knobhead. You're not quite getting the point of a debating website i.e. everyone is entitled to their point of view without being subjecting to abuse. You need to grow up pal
blueblood in your post you seem to be in favour of what bryan nelson posted saying that most rovers fans were inbred and numb was he not beng abusive or dos that not count because you agree with his post buy the way he was a knob head for what he posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reason for being on this page is that all the jokes for taday have been read and with the weather being so miserable I still needed a good laugh. Hence why I am here.

SD's appointment still no0t been officially announced yet so just have to keep my daily chuckles going reading following the biggest jokers in football.

We've just finished running an analysis and opinion poll on your various posts on both BRFC and BFC blogs over the past few months which invariably point to your personal preferences in nature.

Your continual snide references about EH have been totally shot down by the rumours about Nurse Dalliance.

Now you are starting on again about Gay Pride marches with potential new manager.

Consensus of opinion is that you and Chico really ought to get it together, stop exercising your knuckles and come out of the closet. The only good thing about your potential relationship is that there wouldn't be any interbreeding results
Look at that, the slightest sniff of man bag wearing and vintager comes over all camp and is all over it like a rash. Put yer lube and yer crop top away, theres no festival here.

Now get on there's a good little chap, go and find Chico to nurse your woes away I'm sure he'll welcome you with open arms. Or should that be cheeks?

In the real world that most of us live in the facts are , we all know Hendry swindled an old couple out of their life savings ,that is fact.
But you may be right in the greedy world of big time football charlies ,the greed is good brigade ,footballers the modern day Gordon Gekko `s , the money they make nowadays to most of us is abhorant, if 'french rovers" post is true that the clown Hendry is a popular guy inside the football world , Its very sad that a man who is violent to women ,a person who swindles old people pensions , if he is popular with other footballers and I do not believe that to be true, but if it is we are a lost cause.
But something tells me ,that most footballers are decent lads and MOST are as disgusted with HENDRY as the rest of the public are , there could be a small few that think Hendry is popular , but probably ones that are dishonourable people like him.
I dont know if its true or not RC...but a lot of posters on here seem to say that Hendry has lots of pals in football and one of them will get the managers job at Rovers now.

But of course Hendry knows so many people as he played at the top level for several clubs, but then that does not mean they are automatically called his 'friends'.

The whole manager thing is lurching from one embarrassment to another every day it seems.

Ah well Harry rules himself out. But no worries.

Harry would have led you straight to administration, a la Southampton and Portsmouth.

Everyone here seems to want him though. A bit like turkeys voting for Christmas, or should that be chickens, excuse the pun

Still, Harry ruling himself out publicly doesn't actually mean he won't accept. (Remember Pompey?) It's not as if he tells the truth as a rule is it?

He's 20-1 to be next Blackburn manager and I've seen worse 20-1 shots.

Get uncle harry in asap. Given he did not have a successful time with southampton, but he was successful at portsmouth, west ham and tottenham. He brand of football was tasty at tottenham and he can get players motivated too. I would love him to be there. In addition Henning Berh will be a big disappointment.
