REDDITCH Rugby Club step-up their preparations for the new season in earnest on Saturday when they tackle Manor Park in a trial match (3pm ko).
The clash at Bromsgrove Road kicks-off an intense period ahead of a new season in the Midlands Three West (South).
The 2012-13 campaign starts in earnest the following week as Redditch take on local rivals King’s Norton in the first round of the North Midland Shield.
On Saturday, September 1, they then entertain Alcester in the Firemen’s Trophy, attempting to bring the trophy back to Redditch.
They then commence their league campaign a week later at home to Old Coventrians.
New head coach Dave Hitchen is looking for a big turnout of players for both days as the club look to build on the back-to-basics theme which has been running through the training sessions.
Players old and new will be welcome and are encouraged to attend.
Off the field, the Redditch’s committee has been busy forging new relationships and fostering old ones.
They have joined forces with local business 999PROTEIN.com, who, through Gavin Townsend, will be providing diet and nutrition advice as well as providing personalised training advice and plans for members.
Redditch have strengthened links with the North East Worcestershire College in a bid to promote rugby. The College will once again use Redditch’s facilities as they enter the BCS Participation League.
This 10-strong team league will commence on September 19 with trials being held at the club on Wednesday, August 22 (9.30am start).
The Kingfishers have also joined the Redditch Sporting Clubs’ Forum, working with the local council and the town’s other clubs to develop sport within the area.
