FULL-TIME: Blackburn Rovers 4 Swansea City 2

FEED THE YAK Ayegbeni Yakubu celebrates scoring Rovers' fourth goal FEED THE YAK Ayegbeni Yakubu celebrates scoring Rovers' fourth goal

BLACKBURN Rovers earned a vital second league win of the season after seeing off Swansea 4-2 at Ewood.

With four goals from a sure-fire Yakubu, the home side put in a reasonable performance to secure this much-needed result.

However, with ‘Kean Out’ chants throughout the match and more protests Steve Kean will get little relief from fans.

The first half saw neither side posing much of a challenge.

Sloppy passing from Rovers saw only a slight advantage given to Swansea on the attacking front.

With most of their work committed to fending off early chances form the away side, the first goal from Yakubu came as a shock after a delivery from Givet down the wing 20 minutes in.

With fans meeting the goal with boos it wasn’t long until they had more to protest about after Leroy Lita equalised in the 35th minute.

Picking up the pace, Rovers managed to secure a second goal to take them 2-1 in front at the end of the half.

A shot from Simon Vukcevic was met by Yakubu to give him his second goal of the game in added time.

Come the second half Rovers were definitely the dominant side early on.

With another goal from Yakubu given offside the striker was piling the pressure against the Swansea defence.

With a free kick from Pedersen headed back across goal Yakubu took Rovers 3-1 up after his header earned him his hat-trick 56 minutes in.

Though Rovers held the lead, Swansea were eager to get back into the game.

Keeping Rovers penned into their own half they clawed the score to 3-2 after Paul Robinson parried an initial shot by Wayne Routledge only for it to land at the feet of Luke Moore for an easy strike.

Ashley Richards was beginning to trouble Blackburn’s defence with runs down the right, forcing the home side to commit more men into their own half.

With play once again tipping in Swansea’s favour Rovers were often forced into rash clearances, sacrificing their own possession.

With 10 minutes left Rovers were given two decisions to bolster their hopes of only their second win this season.

Joe Allen was sent off after earning his second yellow card for a foul on Hoilett giving the home side an extra man.

A minute later referee Chris Foy pointed to the penalty spot after Neil Taylor brought down Vukcevic inside the box.

With Yakubu lining up to take, fans were off their seats as the hit man struck home to take the score to 4-2.

With four minutes left on the clock, Yakubu was given a standing ovation as Kean opted to bring on Jason Roberts in his place.

The remaining minutes saw Rovers holding their lead as they fended off assaults from the Swans, including a great diving save from Robinson.

However, with the game still littered with strong chants of ‘Kean Out’ by fans it seems that the beleaguered manager will not be let off despite his team’s win today.

The bald scottish clown is still taking us down to the championship. Defence was absolutely shocking again today.

This was a win against a championship team in which we again shipped goals and again were very poor in defence.

What the hell does Kean do to with our defence all week? Its always consistently shocking!

Well done Rovers - actually closed down space in midfield a bit better today. Swans are a decent team, saw them last week against Villa and they usually dominate teams in terms of possession. To dismiss them as a Championship team is naive, they're mid-table on merit and I think Rodgers is a good manager. Outdone by his counterpart today though :-).

Keep the protests up - it seems to inspire the players.

People are just blind to the BIG PICTURE whether we won 10-0, 20-0 at home vs. Swansea the simple fact is Kean WILL take us down. Fans that don’t see this obviously know nothing about football. Protesting after a win shows rovers fans are thinking long term and not just pacified by one win.

Kean out. Venkys out. Anew out.

A welcome 3 points for the next manager!
.
Truth is it was far from convincing against a Swansea team that are poor on the road and looked it. Yet they could still have come back from 3-1 to 3-3 and only when they went down to 10 men did we grab the 4th - until then it was getting like the alamo.

Behind the team,
But not Kean,
We will go down,
Unless Kean leaves town

Sorry Bangkok Rover but I think you could not be more wrong about us closing down space in midfield today.
*
Pedersen and Dunn are the slowest midfield pairing you will ever ever see in the Premiership. Fair does we played deep and let them pass the ball across the pitch all game, but a proper pairing would break up the opposition and create.
*
Pedersen is the worst centre-mid player I have seen for years. His passing and retention of the ball is dire and when he flops down for a foul - and doesn't 'win' one - and the opposition attack I want to rip his numpty, bogged-eyed head off.
*
Dunn is physically eligible for disability benefits and (possibly) a gastric band.
*
Improve the centre and more opposition shots will be blocked, we will keep the ball, and supply our attackers with the ball. It's effin' plain to see.

The players gave us a good performance today and thanks to them all. Good to see Samba back, he made a great difference. But lets not get carried away. Swansea are very average and today was the first time they have scored away from home this season and they managed 2 against us. It does not make Kean a good manager he is still a poor apology for a good manager. He still stabbed BFS in the back to get his job and this is still our first win since Arsenal scored 2 of our goals to give us a win.

even though I didnt think that the protests should go ahead right at the start of the first march I did soon realise that they have helped keep the unbelievable and ridiculous management and ownership situation at ewood in the news....

and if we had lost today then I would have thought that the protests were justified....but a win is a win and maybe to protest still after we got such a much needed win takes away some of the credibility..

Paul Merson (who I cannot stand) said on SKY Sports that it was unbelievable that fans were protesting after a win...in fact he went on to say that Kean and some of the players should go and protest outside where the protesters work and with banners saying that 'they' should be sacked...

stupid arse merse..but seems a lot of people in football may agree with his sentiments...

Kean still must go....Monday?
I like Merson, brilliant speaker at local sportsmans dinner a few years back and I believe he tells it like it is on most occasions, but..... Do your home work he's on the books with SEM, and he's not alone on the sky sports soccer saturday panel. I wouldn't take any notice of what anyone them have to say about the protests, if Kean was at Arsenal the story would be reported very differently.
The problem is the press and pundits only see a snapshot of what is happening down at Ewood, if they knew all the facts Im sure they would have a different view
I'm pretty sure they do know the facts - league position, games won, games drawn and games lost. What other 'FACTS' are there that are relevant and would change their view?
The way the club is being run by the Venkys, no chairman, managing director etc
The way the fans , sponsors and the local newspaper are totally disrespected.
The constant dribble that comes out of Keans mouth.
The promises of investment promised by the Venkys that has never materialised.
The constant lies from the manager and the owners.
The lack of communication from the club.
The financial situation that is being hidden from the fans.
Im sure there is more that other people would like to add

Nice to see most of the fans are keeping the long term picture in mind.
-
One win does not make Kean suddenly the right man, especially at home to a championship team who look very poor when playing away from home.
-
The facts are that with Kean as our manager we are going down. Even if we bring in a new manager now it may be too late such is the state of the fixtures we have in the second half of the season. The chaotic state of the ownership and running of the club is also an issue which will mean we are unlikely to attract a top manager to replace Kean when he is sacked.

There was no doubt the "Kean Out" chant was most effective and loud today and joined in by many more fans than previously. The "Stand Up If You Want Kean Out" was given decent support especially in the B/end and D/end but the problem is when the match is taking place you block views of other fans.
.
I think Kean was saved from a heavy half time chant by the goal 10 seconds before the interval.
.
The original protestors though failed again with the T-shirts and scarves protets not being well supported and also giving the Radio Lancs commentator the amunition to say to Kean in the post match interview - well 23,000 gate Steve and only 150 protestors stayed behind - not many is it! Kevin Gallagher did say he thought it was more like 250. Radio Lancs however failed to mention post match how loud and what high numbers the Kean Out chants had been - balanced journalism?
.
I really hope the Venkys are not misled at Monday's board meeting as the Swansea game did little to convince. Kean's record is appalling and we will very likely be relegated if he is not replaced by a quality manager with the CV to do the job.

What a short sighted fool you are !

You are one of those people who would sit there grinning as someone walked out with your T,V set !

If you hadnt noticed the club as been in melt down since venkys took over.

And we are firmly planted in the relegation zone, with a manager who has one of the worst records in PL history.
A manager who has little regard for the fans, who embarrases the club week in week out, gestures to the fans in a provocative manner and who clearly is out of his depth.

If you are happy with this then you are as gulity as he and venkys.
If you are not happy but sit there clapping you are worse.

The protesters are showing passion for the club they love, which is being dismantled before their eyes.

Yes we won today but again the defence was shambolic, and we will win again under SK, however there is no way under this manager we will amass enough points to stay in this league.

We are all entitiled to our opinions so just let those who really care about the plight of their club go about trying to enforce a change for the better

I wouldnt worry about Merson too much

I have a stone in the garden with more intelligence.

The whole sky panel on a saturday is a joke when it comes to logical, intelligent analysis. As with football as a whole. They are all in it together and have so many conflicting interests, that we rarely get a realistic view on what we all see as the truth.

I wish football would take a leaf out of cricket and rugby's TV coverage and say it as it is when a side isnt playing well or a manager is not up to it.

The sad thing about it all is, when we win a game we have about 100 comments on the result by Monday if we lose a game we usually get about 300 comments. Make of that what you will. Does it mean people are more interested when we lose? Or is it more likely that a lot of posts are from disgiused Bumley fans trying to create instability? Very strange, very strange indeed. Anyway before you all come back and give me the usual honour beating, your not a real fan, mumbo jumbo, its just an observation thats all.

I don't mind nanas booing the team when they score. as has been said , all publicity is good publicity . also it's nice to hear the crowd actually make a noise , instead of attending a funeral.
I just wish they wouldn't effing stand up in front of me to do it when Rovers are about to score. they are mostly about 20 stone of flab , which doesn't help. after all , I'm entitled to watch the game.

Re the Game :
I thought that Vukevic was another dud , but I'll maybe have to revise my opinion if he plays like that in a few more games.
Hoilett was off form , or we might have had more goals.
saw Dalglish, his 2i/c and Newell before the game. don't know if they were interested in Lowe , or one of the Swansea men.

Hello mr Kean or is it Mrs Venky.... where were you when the protests started and why did you not have the courage to defend your beliefs until now, shame on you for calling yourself a supporter.

axey469 says...

let me just start off by saying in no way do i support steve kean or support what is going on at our football club, but some our fans just really baffle me. the protests have been going on for weeks now and yet has the situation changed one bit? i think not. steve kean is still in charge and venkys are still at the helm. so why can we not just accept that as much as we want to, we are not going to influence the decisions at rovers. yesterday at the game there were times when we were attacking the opposition half and yet the fans were still concentrated on anti kean chants. This would definitely affect our players and especially when you consider the magnitude of yesterdays game. Some fans are putting all their effort in driving the manager out of the
club, rather than roaring the team on. This is just plain dumbness and stupidity.
Before i finish my post one final question is, if the manger does walk then would you seriously trust venkys with the appointment of a new manager? would hughes really come to work for these clowns. Dream on......
