GRANT Holt broke Blackburn Rovers hearts this afternoon as a controversial penalty earned Norwich an unlikely point.

Holt equalised from the spot in injury time, after Steven Nzonzi had been penalised for handball, as Norwich fought back from 3-1 down.

A brilliant first half strike from Junior Hoilett was followed by second half goals from Yakubu and Chris Samba as Rovers looked as though they were on their way to a first away win of the season.

Holt though struck late to seal a 3-3 draw and leave Rovers wondering how they did not win the game.

In an entertaining opening, Rovers started the brighter of the two sides and will feel they deserved to take an early lead.

Mauro Formica fired a 20-yard strike over the bar in the opening seconds before Yakubu had an overhead kick from close range cleared off the line by Bradley Johnson's face – after goalkeeper John Ruddy had dropped Morten Gamst Pedersen's corner.

Steve Morison then turned Anthony Pilkington's low cross from the right over the bar for the hosts before Yakubu fired horribly over for Rovers on 12 after a smart through ball from Ruben Rochina.

Norwich were giving as good as they got though and it took a brilliant save from Paul Robinson from David Fox's 20-yard strike to keep the scores level on 17.

No one could doubt Rovers' desire in this opening half with Morten Gamst Pedersen colliding with each other in one challenge – forcing both players off the field temporarily.

Norwich's attacking threat grew as the half wore on and Elliott Bennett should have put the Canaries ahead on 36 but, after a good pull back from Pilkington, he fired wide.

Ruddy almost fumbled Pedersen's free kick over the line on 41 before the impressive Rochina shot inches wide from distance. Hoilett had the final say of the half though as he cut inside from the left, beat two Norwich defenders and curled his shot into the top corner.

After a slow start to the second half, Norwich were back level on 53 minutes as Steve Morison volleyed home brilliantly from 20 yards.

Rovers looked as though they had cleared the danger but, when Rochina was caught in possession, Wes Hoolahan's ball into the box was half cleared by Givet, only for Morison to smash the loose ball into the top corner.

Rovers fans were back on their feet nine minutes later though as Yakubu raced on to Formica's clever though ball and buried his finish past Ruddy. Two minutes later it was 3-1.

Pedersen's wicked left footed free kick flashed across the goal for skipper Samba to dive in at the far post and head Rovers into a comfortable lead.

Norwich pushed forward in search for a route back into the game and Grant Holt looked as though he had done that with 10 minutes remaining, only for Givet to clear well.

The hosts were back in it a couple of minutes later though as Johnson's speculative long range effort deflected off Lowe and looped over Robinson and into the net.

In the dying seconds Nzonzi challenged with Steve Morison for Hoolahan's cross and, without knowing much about it, the ball struck his arm and Holt did the rest from the spot.

Awful substitutions, I agree. However, we played absolutely brilliantly today. Passing it about delightfully and unfortunate not to have scored a fourth near the end. Speaking of unfortunate: unbelievable deflection for their second, another age of injury time and a typically awful refereeing decision for the penalty. Our luck will surely turn against Chelsea, won't it?

Saw the game on a stream. Absolutely incredible match.

First of all, when we went 3-1 up I was in dreamland. The scoreline was easily deserved AND we were playing absolutely beautiful stuff. Some of the 1 touch passing was a joy to behold. The whole team were a class above Norwich.

I was ready to come on here and give Steve Kean huge praise for one of the best Rovers performances I've seen in a long old while. Finally we were going to win 2 games against Prem teams on the bounce!

THEN. It struck.

We're 3-1 up, a class above Norwich and looking for a 4th goal. Suddenly Kean makes 2 changes.

WHY??

Even the commentators on the stream where amazed at why you'd change such a convincing team.

Rochina was absolute quality today, I cannot even begin to fathom why on earth he'd be taken off for David Dunn of all people.

That said, we were massively unfortunate with Norwichs second goal. A completely flukey deflection that Robinson couldn't possibly save.

From that moment on, although we had a few good moments, it was all Norwich and they had some chances themselves.

The penalty? MASSIVELY unfortunate. Never a penalty in a million years. An absolutely scandelous decision that could have serious ramifications for our club.

But, it all comes down to Kean making those changes. WHY does he consistently change a leading side? I honestly feel we could have made it 4-1 if his original side stayed on the pitch.

A crazy, great, entertaining, but heartbreaking game for us Rovers fans. But one that despite us looking superb for 75% of the game once again highlights the failings of Kean as a manager. Every second half performance this season has suffered the 'Steve Kean' effect after the dressing room speech, and his tactical decisions always lead to the detriment of the team.

Don't get me wrong, we were hugely unlucky today, on another game that crazy deflection and dodgy penalty wouldn't have happened, and we'd have rode our luck to a win. If you just watched brief highlights you might get the impression we were just unlucky.

But Kean's influence on the game today WITHOUT QUESTION was to the detriment of the team IMO. We showed today we have some very good players at our club, but ultimately, a very poor, unlucky and deluded manager who refuses to walk. And THAT will lead us to relegation.

For that reason Kean has to go. If we don't make that change soon, it may be too late.

You've taken the words out of mouth. Why make changes when the team is 2 goals to the good and playing with a level of confidence that belies our position in the PL?

Then again, how can you legislate for a fluke deflection and a p1ss-awful penalty decision?

I concur...Kean is absolutely clueless and you are spot on about the effect he has had at half time (I was thinking that myself). Unless Hoilett was injured then this is yet another diabolical display from Kean. Venkys have no choice now other than to replace him...hopefully with either Mark Hughes or Martin O'Neill. Keeping hold of him now would be absolute suicide.

David Hoilett WAS injured, looks like he had hamstring trouble.

But these two infamous changes when we were at 3-1 up, I believe as early as on 69minutes were:

Yakubu > Goodwillie
Rochina > Dunn

Obviously the media won't pick up on this, but we as Rovers fans know that Dunn has been out for quite a while and even if he were fully fit is on terrible form. By contrast, Rochina was looking like a real Barca star for us. Had some lovely magic moments (at one point he dropped his shoulder and beat a few players beautfiully).

Hoilett was subbed later, so these two substitutions were unforced changes.

I'm absolutely fuming right now. Maybe I'll feel better later on when I'm in the pub and feel we were unlucky. We WERE unlucky today, no doubt about that. But we could have been cruising this game big-time if we'd kept that orignal team on.

Two points thrown away today without question. And given Keans appalling points to game ratio, we need all the points we can get.

I'll stop rambling now. But so mad.

Here, here.
I was relieved that he finally picked the best bunch of footballers at the club. We're bossing the game...

Then he puts the stamp of his personality and leadership style on the match by resoting to anxious / negative decision making.

Taking fit, hungry, talented players off and replacing them with either untried or unfit players which lack the same technical ability.

Totally upset the rhythm of the game and invited problems. We got exactly what we deserve in my opinion.

Today's comments could have been about the turning point...he shot himself in the foot and I've no sympathy for the grief he'll take.

Then he puts the stamp of his personality and leadership style on the match by resoting to anxious / negative decision making. Taking fit, hungry, talented players off and replacing them with either untried or unfit players which lack the same technical ability. Totally upset the rhythm of the game and invited problems.

But so mad.
-D.K.O
With Kean's points per game ratio we're heading for 22 points and certain relegation.

I praised Kean at 2.50 - best team/formation at his disposal and backed them to fly. Which they did. Then as on Weds night, questionable substitutions... Petrovic becoming the new Andrews (why bring him on ...). Dunn, out for so long, not even a reserve game under his belt... Kean rule no. 1, whoever scores in a match shall be substituted... Frustrating times. With this squad of players we should be mid table.

No, can't blame Petrovic. He actually had some good moments when he came on, had one mazy run into the box and could have squared it for Goodwillie.

The 2 unfathomable substitutions were unforced and were:

Yakubu > Goodwillie
Rochina > Dunn.

Hoilett came off for Petrovic much later on and it looked like a genuine sub as he was injured.

I don't make comments on this forum usually but I do think all you whingers need to give Kean a bit of slack. I would question bringing Dunn on but they have lost to a ridiculous refereeing decision. Had it remained 3 - 2, I wonder whether I would be reading all this negativity.

Rovers are playing football on the deck and it is a joy to watch. So much better than the 'kick and run' served up by the previous manager.

Kean can be held responsible for his own poor decisions but he cannot be held responsible for poor decisions by the ref.

Lighten up people!!

Yep combination of bad reffing bad luck and bad substitutions why o why couldnt you have left it just alittle longer using the subs near the end to kill the game, not give it to them, so good up to then, i will reserve any bad comments as SK has shown something is there but there is very little time now very sad.

Clement Not To Blame
According to national newspaper reports, Rovers new assistant manager Paul Clement is under investigation following the bust up with a fan during Blackburn’s sensational 4 -3 Carling cup defeat of Newcastle.
Angry fans clame Clement was involved in a four letter – laden row with supporters who questioned the tactics of under fire manager Kean. But insiders insist the coach was only voicing his displeasure at some industrial language aimed in Kean’s direction.
I can clear up the matter without any hesitation because it happened within 10 feet of where I was sat. My seat at the Newcastle game was row a number 150 literaly a matter of yards away from Clement and Kean.
Nobody defends peaceful protest more than I, nobody has criticised Kean more than I, but on this occasion Kean and Clement were innocent bystanders when unnecessarily verbally attacked by unruly supporters who had made their way to the dugout area. There was no excuse for their fowl mouthed abuse at Kean. Paul Clement was merely protecting his boss and dispersing the unruly few.
It never ceases to amaze me how this particular part of the ground has not got more security in place. On a less serious note often ones view is obstructed by autograph seeking youngsters during the game. Young fans need to be encouraged but there is a time and place for everything, autographs are for pre-match and after the final whistle.
With Rovers fans growing more volatile due to their dissatisfaction of Kean, Blackburn officials need to look closely at security around the dugout for both for management and players not to mention orderly fans such as I.
These sort of scenes are foreign to Ewood Park and unprecedented. The situation becoming more and more volatile and I only hope the Rao family taking note before a nasty incident takes place.
Should Paul Clement require any witness in his defence I am contactable via this website www.regoftherovers.c

You should post more often Vicarage you make some good points....yes Keans subs were very questionable at best and quite poor looking back now - but it was the pen that cost us three points and no-one to blame for that but a cr*p ref..! I watched the match on a stream and thought we were excellent for most of the match.

Lighten up people!![/p][/quote]You should post more often Vicarage you make some good points....yes Keans subs were very questionable at best and quite poor looking back now - but it was the pen that cost us three points and no-one to blame for that but a cr*p ref..! I watched the match on a stream and thought we were excellent for most of the match. French Rover

The point is - as the majority of posters have said - yes the penalty was a bad one and the goal a cruel deflection, BUT it was Kean's tactical substitutions that allowed Norwich to get into the positions to obtain this luck anyway. A similar story to Wednesday in fact. By allowing the opposition to play nearer the goal this is more likely to happen. Glad to see that the posts at the moment are focussed on the football rather than donuts and drunk driving.

KEAN OUT

What a tart - one win in ten is good enough for you? You seriously think this bunch of players can't do better than one in ten?

How did this performance prove the players are behind him? If anything it shows how much they aren't behind him by conceding soft goals late into matches.

You need to go back to bed, a lack of sleep has clearly made you delusional....

Wasn't Kean responsible for giving us the football before the substitutions? Of course he was. Two freak incidents and we still get a point. I know the lads are down but the performance was way better than a few weeks ago. Team starting to settle and we are playing well. Our performances are beginning to turn and if some monkeys on here are that dissappointed from taking a point away to a team thats in tenth, I think, then it shows a lack of football knowledge. Their pusrsuit of keans head is bordering on obsession.
It'll be interesting to see that the lads appear to put in a better shift away from home as there are no boo boys to drain them confidence.
Its time the fans put in as much of a shift before and after a game as the players do, instead of all the mischief making like dobbo and sly from above.

You accuse fans here of having a lack of football knowledge?

I'd suggest you being happy with a manager who has 6 wins from 31 games and 6 points from a quarter of this season shows a lack of footballing knowledge.

We've just conceded 8 goals this week, it's been 16 matches since we've kept a clean sheet and we're 4 points adrift of 16th place. Yes of course you're right, Kean is doing a terrific job. Let's keep him there so we can enjoy his football in the Championship next season. Hell, he's a "brilliant manager", let's give him a contract at Rovers for life.

So, if Kean had not made those substitutions the ball wpould not have looped up of Lowe's foot and the ref would not have bungled the penalty decision?

Some people need to get themselves checked out as they are losing their marbles.

It was a very good performance from Kean's team and only rank bad luck robbed us of the win.

Our performances are beginning to turn and if some monkeys on here are that dissappointed from taking a point away to a team thats in tenth, I think, then it shows a lack of football knowledge. It'll be interesting to see that the lads appear to put in a better shift away from home as there are no boo boys to drain them confidence.
Its time the fans put in as much of a shift before and after a game as the players do, instead of all the mischief making like dobbo and sly from above.
Turning it round? 8 goals conceded in the last 3 games. We have to score four goals to win a match.
Then we will score 4 against chelsea :0).

So, if you put your disappointment and your chip to one side for a moment, you are actually saying you are not happy with a point away from home at a team that is in tenth place and are playing well? My your expectations are high, did we play that well. Would you have taken a point before the game considering how well they've been playing? I know I would. But we did more than that, we completely bossed the game and if it wasn't for two freak instances we would have had all three points. And we didn't play hoofball either.
So you are winning 3-1 away from home and you want to shut up shop. Hence putting dunny on. Fergie does it, Mancini does it, but when kean does it its off to siberia for him.
Use your grey matter. You are obsessed. Why not revel in a good performance, the lads are low enough as it is, and its our job to lift them back up again, not say see I told you so, thats just plain dumb. Great performance with a lot of bad luck so we move on to the next one. Not bothered if Kean gets sacked or not but I won't slate him for making the team perform as well as they did, thats just stupid. Oh I forgot, if they play well its all down to the players, and if they play badly its keans fault. Silly me.

Right, first things first. We played VERY well today, and it was NEVER a penalty.
We also played well last Sunday against Spurs. BUT, we've only got ONE point from both the games, and it's Chelsea next up.

We now have six points from TEN games this season. This equates to 0.6 points per game. This ratio applied to a full season, will mean we should be smashing the 20 point barrier, round about Easter. Our final points tally would be about 22. As a betting man, i'd put good money on this not being enough to keep us up.

He simply has to go. He just isn't getting the results. If he stays, we WILL get relegated. Is this what Venky's want? If they don't sack him, then i'd have to say yes, that's what they want. They must have ulterior motives.

Venky's: Why do you want us to be relegated?

Frustrating to all concerned - but remember that is 3 games where we have shipped 2 goals after playing well and leadingly comfortably - Wolves (last season) Newcastle ( I made the point after that game that a performance in the league would cost us 2 points never thinking it would happen in the very next match) and now Norwich.
Fact is we can not keep a clean sheet and defence is leaking too many goals - Venkys may think that is entertaining football but give me a 1 0 any day.
Hope yes? BUT we are where we are not because of luck but because that is how we have played - a game lasts 90 minutes.
I believe Kean is an unlucky Manager but one makes ones own luck - time for a change of both luck and Manager

I don't think it matters, it's not 'us' making the decision, it's Venkys. they've made that perfectly clear.

My guess would be at least 38 (league)this season...

But if we dispensed with Keans services, who is to say the players will improve under a new manager, it may go the other way. But on his record alone he doesn't look safe.

Depends what you consider 'safe'. He's recently been proclaimed a 'brilliant' manager by the owners, and looks like being offered a new contract.

I dont give a fcuk about performances and bad refereeing decisions. The fact is we only got a point, and are being cut adrift at the bottom of the league. We need two wins atleast from this run of 5 games, and after being 3-1 up in the first game we only get a point.
-
This draw feels like a loss, especially after the puzzling subs of Kean when 3-1 up.
-
Kean OUT.
-
This set of players is clearly top 10 standard. Kean has them bottom 3 and cut adrift after 10 games.
-
Appoint a real manager to go along with a good group of players.

We may be bottom at the moment but the level of our performances will bring us the points we need when we play the teams we can genuinely compete against. But at the end of the season, you don't stay in the PL on the basis of performance. Points are what count.

I agree, we have had some decisions go against us, but, against Arsenal, the luck was with us. They had a 'stonewall' penalty refused, and scored two own goals. And if I remember correctly, Fulham had a good shout for a penalty turned down.

The centre back pairing you refer to against Wolves, was down to the managers failings in the transfer market. He had all summer to prepare his team for the first game, but chose to wait until we'd played - and lost - our first three games before signing a recognised centre half. Incidentally, our bench against Wolves, didn't contain ONE outfield player with PL experience.
Again, that is down to the managers lack of foresight.

We have played three games against teams currently in the top six, we have lost them all. We will not get many points from the top teams, so it's imperative that we do well against the so called poorer teams. Only picking the odd point up against the teams mentioned, is not good enough, and will result in one thing; RELEGATION.

KEAN OUT
I couldn't agree with you any more. This game, it showed me clearly that Kean simply doesn't have the ability to carry us forward. Now I join the Kean Out team.

The team is playing great football, the players are putting everything on the line for a manager they obviously respect, and all you sedentary, sub-literate morons can do is look for any percieved mistake, real or otherwise to pin on Kean. We may be bottom at the moment but the level of our performances will bring us the points we need when we play the teams we can genuinely compete against. I have been watching Rovers for twenty years and I have never felt so ashamed of our "fans"

I think if we got a consultant in to assist Kean to organise the team and his tatics especially when and when not to make subs Venkeys may provide a winning formula especially if it saves face and money not to get rid of Kean.

Well, I watched on Match choice and yes we were superb.
However I agree that the subs were questionable apart from Hoillett (tight hamstring) and did allow Norwich to come at us and did contribute to the draw.
You cannot legislate for bad refs and bad luck though and it was a tragic result. Watching Goals on Sunday Paul Jewell said the same but qualified it by saying he has done the same in the past.
So Keans inexperience showed and having made the same mistake twice in the week maybe he will learn not to do it
By the way Jewell also pointed out that half the protesters cant spell KEAN
Before we do the stats I am counting this season only and yes that is poor but current form is undefeated in last 3, D 2 W 1
That is an improvement but shows you can use stats to prove any theory or agenda
Sh*t just fell off the edge of my flat eeeaaaarthhh........

how can any true rovers fan defend this buffoon and venkys for that matter. i have lived in maidstone for four years now and was proud to wear the shirt out and about but now we are seen as a joke to the football world cant believe i have charlton and gillingham fans slatting the club i love WTF! we are a laughing stock. cant believe i make a 500 mile tound trip week in week out to watch my beloved club be destroyed from the inside. kean is inept and doesnt have a clue what were the first two subs about on saturday really rochina was controlling the game and his passing was magnificent no need what so ever to replace him. i get the feeling it will be a lot worse than a sit in protest after being torn apart by chelsea on saturday.
