FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 4 Newcastle United 3 (after extra time)

GOOD WILL HUNTING Rovers’ striker David Goodwillie is sent crashing at Ewood Park last night GOOD WILL HUNTING Rovers’ striker David Goodwillie is sent crashing at Ewood Park last night

Gael Givet's header in the dying seconds of extra-time secured an amazing victory for Blackburn after an extraordinary Carling Cup fourth-round tie against Newcastle.

Rovers led 2-0, 3-2 and finally emerged exhausted but triumphant as 4-3 victors at Ewood Park, while the Magpies saw the end of their unbeaten run this season.

Ruben Rochina and Yakubu had apparently sent Blackburn on their way to a comfortable win, only for Danny Guthrie and Yohan Cabaye to hit stunning injury time strikes to send the game into extra-time.

Morten Gamst Pedersen's free-kick made it 3-2, Peter Lovenkrands equalised again from the spot and then came Givet's last-gasp heroics.

Rovers will argue it was about time the dice rolled for them - because they had appeared to be stacked against Steve Kean's side at kick-off.

Newcastle arrived with the best defensive record in the top flight, and with 4,500 travelling fans making up almost half the 10,682-strong crowd.

For most of the match and deep into injury time Blackburn had played like the unbeaten team, and Newcastle like the bottom club, before it all turned around in those two crazy minutes.

Blackburn started brightly and Junior Hoilett's extraordinary pace took him past two players, but Davide Santon - making his full debut - did well to block Ruben Rochina after he had seized on the cut-back.

Related links

Newcastle did not heed the warning however and the 20-year-old Spaniard was not to be denied when given a second opening in the fifth minute.

The chance was created on the left again, Martin Olsson playing a one-two with Hoilett before sprinting down the flank and crossing low for Rochina to sweep home from 12 yards out.

The stage had been set for an open contest and so it continued as Demba Ba fired against the post for the visitors after being put clean through by Danny Guthrie, then David Goodwillie brought a smart save out of the Magpies keeper Tim Krul.

Newcastle's discomfort in defence continued however and Fabricio Coloccini was extremely lucky to only receive a caution when he caught Yakubu high with his foot apparently raised.

Yakubu nearly made the Magpies pay again just before the break but Krul turned aside his curling shot.

The second half began with Hoilett drifting a 20-yard free-kick into Krul's arms, before the travelling fans exploded into indignation after referee Robert Madley refused to award a penalty when Sylvain Marveaux blasted the ball against Olsson's arm.

Yakubu was next to threaten but in the end his effort at Krul was feeble, before two hugely controversial incidents ended up with Blackburn extending their lead.

First Ba tangled with Chris Samba in the Blackburn box but Madley was unmoved, although it looked as though the Newcastle player had a good case.

The ball was swept down the other end to Rochina who beat the offside trap but lost control as Krul approached and then threw himself over the keeper's leg - and bizarrely this time the referee did point to the spot.

Yakubu made no mistake with the penalty - leaving the visiting fans chanting '2-0 to the referee' in frustration.

With Blackburn believing the game was in the bag, Guthrie hammered in a stunning shot from 30 yards.

That strike came in the third minute of injury time, and there were two agonising minutes for Rovers to endure.

There was one more chance for Newcastle - and that was enough. Samba fouled Coloccini 25 yards out and Cabaye curled a delightful free-kick into the top corner to send the tie into extra-time.

Pedersen had sent one howitzer of a free-kick wide but the Norwegian found the target soon afterwards, his drive skimming off the wall and low past Krul.

There still looked to be goals in this game and so it proved when Grant Hanley was penalised for a tug on Lovenkrands and the Dane tucked home the penalty to make it three apiece.

Still Rovers refused to give up the ghost and in the dying seconds Pedersen floated in a free-kick, Samba headed across goal and Gael Givet stooped to conquer at the far-post.

Cue a massive pile-on of Rovers players - this was some match and Blackburn had, finally, deserved it.

There is obviously a hard core section of the Rovers fans who have made their decision come what may re Kean.
Of course this is just one result (and a good one at that).
Now back to the most important "bread & butter" and major concern for everyone.
One can only hope Kean & the players can take this positive into the next few weeks and show everyone they are 100% focused on achieving top 10 status.
A bleeding long way to go indeed.

Great result.

Conceding late goals is never ideal but we're through so that's good.

However, as Birmingham discovered last year, winning the Carling Cup counts for little in the bigger scheme of things.

Let's just hope it's the start of some semblence of form.

Over to you Uncle Fester...one swallow doesn't make a summer.

To all those suddenly showing their support for Kean,

This result means very little in the greater scheme of things, yes it is a win and the players deserve credit for managing to claw a win after conceding two in injury time, but that is all it is.

We need points in the league and there is still nothing that shows that Steve Kean is the right man for the job.

Good job team but we want three points on Saturday, the league is where you will be judged.

(With apologies to the few real fans posting above) Give me a break you bunch of miserable shysters! Its true that the CC should be low on everyone's horizon and the above point re Brum last season is well taken. But, for crying out loud, try to recognise a positive when you see (or more likely when you read about) one. This is a team that's had precious few breaks this season and a "comeback" (of a sort) win such as tonight's can only boost team spirit and be a boon in the short-to-medium term. For the KMG 'ers this must have been a real disappointment; for everyone else a game to remember - even the familiar mess up in the closing mins of normal time. When all's said and done - good job tonight, lads!

Very impressed by the result tonight. I agree with others it is a bit worrying we never keep a clean sheet these days, but come on, Newcastle are one of the form teams in the Premiership right now.

Let's hope Rochinas performance leads to him getting a run of games. I think this little lad could be a PL star. He might actually be the most natural goalscorer we have at the club. Just needs a run though, not only being involved every other game.

As good as tonight is however, I don't think it really changes the bigger picture. I'm still not convinced that Kean can lead us on a run.

But hey, I'd LOVE to be proved wrong and see Kean take us now on a nice 10 game unbeaten run. I'd LOVE him to turn out to be a cracking manager. I just don't see it tho, and all evidence suggests this is not the case.

I always want us to win though. And that feeling about Rovers is bigger then my feelings on Kean.

I was sat right next to Kean for this match and at the end of half time two fans in front of me pointed out that with no presence up front we were inviting trouble. As this is being said a member of staff, short one in a red jacket don't know what he does, comes up to then and starts squaring up. There was a heated argument with the member of staff claiming we wanted the team to lose,we were crap fans, don't bother coming next week then he generalised and said all fans wanted Sam gone and you get what you ask for in terms of Kean. The argument ended with the guy saying ill love it when we win and an elderly fan saying should we take this outside. Couple of stewards come over and ask us to calm down but acknowleged he was out of order and the main culprit.

At full time when the players were coming off again he comes over giving it out, swearing and looking for a fight. He gets dragged away by a head steward but the argument continues with insults flying back and forth. When a comment is made that "If you stopped arguing and concentrated on the matches maybe we woulnd't be rock bottom" and tries to come up the stairs to have a fight with a teenager.

This sort of behaviour by officals at the club and the fact no other player or member of staff came to break it up sums up my feelings of dejection. Coupled with the drowning out of protestors with music on Sunday I am left facing the question "Where is the club I supported for all these years!

Hi all,

Sorry for this comment after a great win!!

I can cope with the uneducated announcements from SK and Venky's and the players seem to be really pulling their puds out to support him and them.

So, he is a complete ****, I know that after the MU game last season he was larging it up, and did so so in several local boozers, happy days. But he then started telling porkies!!

Steve Kean please all I can say is give us some respect, some of us have more badges than you could dream of!! And also love our club far more than you ever will.

Why don't you just come out to us and say, this is my first job, I have strived to be the best, and I will be, however to get BRFC to that stage (top 10) I need all the season ticket holders and supporters to fully back me and the club (never mentioned the club) my players will run through the town centre and actually talk and communicate personally with the locals this way he may get some support!!

BRFC listen and call me!,

What concerns me is the ability to win comfortably and put teams to bed, ok yes this is a win and theres spirit there but 3 goals at home is not good not good at all , added to the fact we were 2-0 up if that was BFS or Sparky they would of shut up shop , seems to me Kean doesnt really have any tactical sense, this will be our downfall, he will never be the right man for this club, do you really think after one year and after 6 wins out of 30 its all going to suddenly click? thats the fundametal problem here, he will never go on a consistant run of results because he isnt a winner , if i was a manager and i got beat at home would i be telling my team to give themselves a pat on the back ? would i say after a 4-0 drubbing for 55 mins we were excellent ? this is why the majority of fans dispise Steve Kean , hes a nomad, he had a poor football career and by all accounts he climb the coaching ladder through manipulation and lies, hes a joke other fans think hes a joke? was souness a joke, hughes , BFS, Mackay? no they were respected even ince there was respect . this guy is a joke

Good win against Newcastle. I do not agree that Kean substitution were inept. Who knows, he wanted to save the player from not injuring by playing more time. If those forwards stayed up & injured and still we won, people here would be saying Kean is useless and why risk key strikers when we were leading. It has come to this sorry situation. Whatever Kean does, people see wrong in him. By the way, he doesnt help himself either by some naive comments in press. Players really want to play for him. Thats the only positive I take. Win is needed at Norwich in the weekend. May be that will help to an extent. It may not lift us off the bottom, but at least will then mean 2 back to back wins, which Rovers have not done this season. Venkys are real problem here. They are just making Kean a scapegoat in all this. I really do not understand their thinking in all this.

Dont tell me that the Carling Cup is meaningless, look at the jubilation shown by the Chelsea and Man City bosses when they won last night. Fact is all of the top teams are through, EXCEPT Newcastle. Interesting to see Pederson showing his club badge to the Blackburn End, I think his message was clear - drop the protests and get behind your club.

Why dont some people just shut up and enjoy the victory?

This competition can still get us into Europe and was a battling display full of guts and commitment ! Yes we should have wrapped it up in 90 mins but we conceded 2 well taken goals but still slogged it out right to the end.

It p*sses me off those "fans" who slag off the club , manager and players but cant be arsed to get down to "their" football club to support "their" team.

Newcastle filled their allocation and the rovers 3 sides of the ground looked like a blue square crowd.

It is about time people realised that if we are to progress we need to be down at ewood to roar on the team. I felt embarresed by yet another abysmal crowd for the carling cup.

Yes we need points but we need to show support for the team, they are showing some fight for BRFC, you just needed to be there to see MGP last night when he scored celebrations ! if you were there you will know what i mean !

To be fair most of the protesters did leave it untill after the game to start protesting and supported the team throughout the match at the end of the day all we wanted was the same thing every other fan wants yeah we went the wrong way about it

I hope now we can stop the protests and get behind the team because last night proved to me we was going the wrong way about it now isn't the time for protests it is the time to get behind the team protests aren't doing anything but putting the team down

Even if we don't agree with the management and the way the club ran or is treating us as fans they know how we feel now and we should leave them decisions to the owners and support the team no matter what for the players sake we can't force the owners to do anything

I hope to see the same kind of effort next week lads

I know the Carling Cup doesn't mean much to alot of people but the futher we get the more money that goes into the club balance not Venkys pockets

Thanks for showing me their is still reason to believe we can get out this mess Rovers!

I don't care if I get stick for these comments I'm open minded to opinions and last night opened my eyes to what we can achieve if the protests stop and we get behind our team I feel bad that I didn't go to the match it's the first I haven't been in years

I will always hate Kean for his comments on the fans and I don't agree with his tactics but we are all in this together so let our voices and the players effort be what keeps us up this year

We all know Keans job won't last forever

Rovers till I die!

yes its a worry that we dont keep clean sheets but at the end of the day we have just put 4 past a previously unbeaten team.
as for the "member of staff" remonstrating with fans, well who was it? lets name names because if this did happen (and i have no reason to disbeleive you) lets be knowing exactly who it is so we can make an official complaint. also what form did the fans complaint that led to the argumet have? at the end of the day there is too much of a "you cant do/say that to me" culture in life. maybe you should just treat people as you yourself want treating.
and as for newcastle "rolling over" they scored twice in the 90th min...hardly a team conceding defaet...no i dont think kean can go on no i dont like the state of our club...bet lest just have a few hours of happiness

Well than god we have won a game but glad it wasnt a league match as we would have only got 1 point after a certain 3 was available.
Norwich like Newcastle are buzzing lets hope Kean's new tatics of finding our "shape" after losing the ball works there too.
I decided like many others not to go due to my hatred for the Venkeys as I firmly realise that Kean is just a guy who has been put in a job he cannot cope with and the Venkey's are No1 culprits and need to sort it out.The problem is no matter how much they kick us and abuse or ignore us we cannot stop loving them so I honestly hope Kean can start winning as the Rovers are more important than the manager or the owners.

What the hell are we talking about here? Going down after 90 minutes to complain to Kean about substitutes!!! If I had been Clement I would have told the "fan" to take a running jump. That is most definitely not the way to go about things.
Great entertainment, and I suppose that is the kind of football match Morst yearns for. Not sure it would keep us in the Premiership. For once, there were real positives to take from it.
Wife thinks I am crazy. Going on about time and expense to watch what I have been moaning about, but hey! Aren't we all?
Mind went back last night to a miserable crowd at Ewood years ago-when we were already down- and Jim Beardall scoring an equaliser, against Middlesborough, I think. Chants of "At last we've got a team". Spirit in adversity?

Look we are all on the same page they have a right to protest we all thought it was the right thing to do but obviously it wasn't as proven last night we all want whats best for the club

I don't think many Blackburn fans agree with the way the fans have been treated and Steve Keans tactics and some of us wanted our voices to be heard

Protests need to stop now that was proven last night their is no need to insult the protesters though some of those protesters are the biggest Blackburn fans I know and would have the badge tatooed on their hearts if they could

Fighting among ourselves isn't going to solve anything

Steve Kean may have alienated a number of so-called fans but, more importantly, he has the full support of the players - people who understand football and the difficulties in trying to achieve what is being attempted at the Club.

Many posters seem desperate to come on here and point out the blindingly obvious - that one win in the Carling Cup does not alter our position in the league.

It is possible that some of them are actually disappointed that we did not lose so that they could continue to pursue their negative agenda against the Club.

The best outcome of the current dreadful situation at Ewood would be for the players and management to sort things out and to achieve enough points to get us up the league.

Anyone who wants anything else is a spectator not a supporter and there is nothing wrong wth that as long as they don't try and pass themselves off as people who care about the Club.

I agree I have seen some posts saying stuff like if we do go down atleast we will have rid of Kean that's just wrong

All those years ago relegation was one of the worst things I've gone through as a fan I feel sorry for other teams that have to go through it never mind wish it upon my own team

I don't agree with Kean I hate him infact for his comments against the fans but this isn't about him anymore it's about the players and the fans giving 100% to make sure this club doesn't go down I would love for him to be sacked

And that feeling about Rovers is bigger then my feelings on Kean.

well said chris.
i completely agree about rochina. you simply have to find a place for him in the starting side, but we ar elasking the personel at the moment for him to really be able to shine. he's no out and out striker, so needs to play slighly deeper. but asking him to do much of a defensive job is problematic, because it's just not in his mindset. the worry then is that we have hoilett, rochina, formica, vuckevic who would all merit a run in the side, but are the one of the main reasons why we concede so much because of their lack of defensive nouse (not effort as most do put a shift in).
add yak to that mix and you can see why we struggle to keep the opposition out. it's a really tricky problem. i feel we are missing a real high energy disruptive presence in the centre of midfield, and that's where i wouild concentrate our efforts in the transfer market in january. it could be the missing piece of the jigsaw, as the guys we have in the centre all want to slow the pace down - a good trait at times, but not when we're in the position we are.

I wasn't aware that the "protesters" were not going last night otherwise I wouldn't have waited till yesterday to get my ticket. lol.
.
Some of them did turn up, I was sat next to one of them, lol. apart from the fact even when we were 2-0 up his total hatred of Kean was palpable, he was actually an OK guy, but as soon as Newcastle equalised he was up screaming f*&^ off Kean you F*^&ing w&^&£k, T**££"r, and various other expletives, until it was politely explained to him by myself and several others that it was actually Samba who had committed (another) absolutely stupid unnecessary foul for the free kick, not Kean, and we nearly paid the penalty, because had we lost the game that would have been the reason.
.
Rovers beat a pretty good side, somebody earlier in this post said that Newcastle, "rolled over", obviously not at the match then!.
.
Newcastle were excellent, probably the best Newcastle side I have seen at Ewood for years, and we beat them.
.
OK it was a bit hairy at times but isn't that what you want to see, or do you all still prefer, dull, boring, sterile?
.
As for the comments about abuse dished out by Paul Clement, or whoever to various fans, well if it happened its wrong and he should be taken to task for it and told to appologise.
.
But stop and think for a while, there is a group of fans at Ewood who think nothing of offering "advice" or screaming abuse, mainly directed a Kean, and therefore by association the rest of the backroom staff, but the moment anyone gives it back then they are scabs or even worse.
.
For all those of you who are married it's called nagging, now I don't know what happens in you homes but when I am being nagged I usually reply in kind.
.
And all this tripe about being "entitled to an opinion because I paid for my ticket", well, yes you are, but don't go running to mummy when someone gives you a different opinion back.
.
Don't get me wrong, it was only a win in a cup match and we have an awful long way to go, but the last two games, against two very good sides, have shown the players are playing for Kean whether his detractors like it or not.
.
Personally I don't think he is the right person for the job, no-one with his lack of experience should be put in that position, but instead of getting on his back all the time I really do hope he proves me wrong.

Agree with you Sutty, Rochina is the guy we need to build the team around. He has bags of skill, can find his team mates with passes, and can shoot and score from anywhere.

Football is a confidence game for sure and after the point at QPR, the good performance against Spurs and last nights battling display and win then maybe - just maybe - we are seeing the emergence of a half decent side...

Now we really really really need to take this result through and beat Norwich at the weekend though.

My big question is why Pedersen doesn't play every game he has the 16th most assists in the Premier League all time and he still has years left in him another season or two of playing him he will be in the top 10 with the likes of Gerrard, Henry and Giggs that sort of record at Blackburn is outstanding

My starting line up would be
Robbo - Saved us so many times
Lowe - Fantastic talent he has a ball that is second to none
Samba - All round defender one of the best in the League
Dann - Not looked the best defender but he has pace and shows promise
Olsson/Givet - I would rotate these two Olsson is a fantastic player with loads of promise and a deadly run Givet I would play against the big boys his timing for a tackle/interception is extraordinary
Hoilett - Looks as good as any Walcott or Lennon
N'Zonzi - Not the average defensive midfielder to say the least
Formica - Shows glimpses of Tugay-like technique isn't very fast for his age but always in space and very creative in his play
Pedersen - Him and Givet are amazing together last few season we have seen him go from a free kick maestro to the best left footed cross that I have ever seen in blue and white halves we have also seem him play well in the centre of midfield and he is always battling away defending up front or in our own box very underated
Yakubu - A proper striker that Rovers has needed since McCarthy left not only does he have so much quality in his finishing ability his passing and build up play is of the same caliber
Goodwillie - He is like a mix of Derbyshire and Dickov I love watching him play his work rate is second to none he fast and has a finish

Nelsen should not be forgetten either he is strong in personality and physically

Hanley is another young promising defender him and Dann will be a hard defence to beat one day

Rochina can play on either wing or up front and a super sub I think he should be playing alot more often but not a regular starter he seems to tire quickly

We have so much talent in the squad this is why I think Kean was put under question to begin with instead of picking some of the younger brighter talents he picks players that are getting on and can't keep up anymore e.g. Salgado, Dunn Roberts I wouldn't even play Givet as often as he does

Just a quick mention to the "deluded" fans in the Blackburn End last night who unfurled the "Chickeans Out!" banner then request everyone stand up and support their team, We were supporting our team as we were not the ones who were continuosly singing Kean Out as soon as Newcastle equalised - you think that helps the lads going into extra time?? Now i'm sure your part of the Darwen End "Crazy Gang" thus I suppose this can be overlooked seeing as you have 3 teeth between you but hell - I wish for a Cardiff or Palace home draw next time just due to the fact that we won't have to hear your monotonous "pancake!" shouts every second kick and that the Darwen End will gladly accomodate you (miles away from everyone else in within earshot)! Now get back to where you came from!!!

As for everyone else who turned up I thoroughly enjoyed the game and apart from two worldys from the barcodes we'd have been home & dry. I'm no way in favour of Kean but think the goals were beyond his control! Keep the faith with or without the talking puppet - Roll on Saturday!!!!

I went to the game, & this result should not paper over the cracks- we still looked very fragile at the back & a full-strength Newcastle side would have beaten us.
At 2-0 up we desperately needed someone to put their foot on the ball and slow it down, but resorted it to long punts upfield to a tired Goodwillie who soon lost it again.
Samba lost Ba & then fouled him for what could have been a clear penalty & sending off, and seconds later, the ball is punted upfield and Goodwillie is fouled for the penalty.
Kean will NEVER be accepted by 99% of the fans, but I feel that a real manager who could work on fitness & with more tactical awareness could bring the team together & pull us to saftey. Hoillet, Olsen and Lowe in particular looked great tonight and could flourish under a manager who knows what he's doing. Rochina looked better, but tries to do too much and would be more effective keeping it simple.
It wasn't good seeing an empty Ewood last night, but I fear that the longer Kean is in place, the more empty seats will appear.

I WAS at the match. 2 of Newcastle's goals were unstoppable.
lot of spirit shown by the Rovers players.
another good display by Lowe . probably solved the right back situation.
still need a left back to get Olsson on the wing. hopefully someone will turn up.
Givet and Samba class as usual. Pedersen scored ( at last) and put in a shift , several good crosses from him.
Newcomers still need games to let us see whether they can perform well- need more to come from the Viches , Goodwillie etc.
hope they can perform against Norwich . a draw would do nicely for me.

It was an excellent win in a old fashioned stirring cup-tie and will buck the lads up and the fans who were there like me and any Rovers fan anywhere.
Now some perspective, unless we draw Palace or Cardiff at home, last night is most likely to be the end of the line and even if we do get a soft draw, I cannot see us progressing beyond the semis.
The win has not transformed Kean into a promising manager, he´s still the inept guy who thinks Roberts is our first choice striker, for example.
For those who hopefully but hopelessly ask for the mangement to sort things out fail to grasp that it´s the mangements that´s the problem.
The most likely scenario is that last night will disastrously buy Airmiles some breathing space while the chicken nuggets of Pune will be fobbed off with "we´re improving". The fans know now that a draw at Norwich is an absolute minimum but Keano and Pune Nuggets can probably get away with a narrow "unlucky" defeat.
Our strirring performances against Spurs and Toon were not the beautiful football which Venkys demanded as an excuse for sacking Big Sam. In fact the improvement came from the restoration of MGP´s with his corners, crossses, freekicks and Airlmiles has consistently cold-shouldered MGP - perhaps he´s jealous of MGP´s better command of English.
The situation is as bad as it was at the club, but I did enjoy last night.

A great win, wish I had gone now but honestly thought we would have been rolled over and couldn't bring myself to get a ticket on top of the season ticket to watch us get beat.. sods law we win lol

Have no idea how we played but some reports across the net say we where excellent and couldn't have looked any further away from a club at the foot of the table. That can only be a good thing - well done to the players.

Rochina is our CC hero!! That's 4 goals so far for him. Needs more PL time surely. I know the Pune game wasn't very competitive either, but his strike against them was an absolute rocket.

Not going to comment on Kean anymore, he doesn't deserve any typing time anymore.

I know we lost against Spurs too, and have leaked 3 goals last night but does anyone else think Lowe, Samba, Givet, Olsson is our strongest back 4?

Salgado goes without ssaying - I love him as a player and a person, but he's a massive liability, but I don't rate Dann after what I have seen so far of him. He looks out of tune with the other lads, played that awful pass back at Fulham, is a massive shirt puller and tugger. I dunno maybe because he's a bit dirty I don't like it, and I'm a huge fan of Givet.

Well done anyway lads - hope we draw Palace or Cardiff at home on Saturday!!

Always said Wild Rover because I know, the 6000 hardcore turned out tonight as we always do !

No boo's, groans or blaming.

That said & as one of the 6000, Keans substitution for Hanley with Samba going up front at 2 - 0 up in the last minute was suicidal & very nearly cost us the game.

Givet I love him with a vengeance.

Now 3 points at Norwich & things could just be looking up ?

A grand night down at Ewood I could almost smell the old days.

Guys ... we just wanted to lend our support to the Kean campaign over here ..

I watched highlights of the game from Dallas ... And I really think we should all be getting together right now ...

Support the club & the owners plans ... They know what they are doing ...We can get out of this if we all pull together guys !!!

The Defense was fantastic tonite (Givete was the man !!!) and Offense we looked really strong ... Great goal from Rochina and Holiett must be our best player since the 90s era (Wegerle, Shearer, Sutton, etc) ...

Im leaving for work now but cant wait to see Saturday's match (shown live on Fox over here) ..

We can do it if we pull together like many people on this BB have said ..

Wembley here we come !!!!

Steve BB2 wrote: Why dont some people just shut up and enjoy the victory?
To be fair most of the protesters did leave it untill after the game to start protesting and supported the team throughout the match at the end of the day all we wanted was the same thing every other fan wants yeah we went the wrong way about it I hope now we can stop the protests and get behind the team because last night proved to me we was going the wrong way about it now isn't the time for protests it is the time to get behind the team protests aren't doing anything but putting the team down Even if we don't agree with the management and the way the club ran or is treating us as fans they know how we feel now and we should leave them decisions to the owners and support the team no matter what for the players sake we can't force the owners to do anything I hope to see the same kind of effort next week lads I know the Carling Cup doesn't mean much to alot of people but the futher we get the more money that goes into the club balance not Venkys pockets Thanks for showing me their is still reason to believe we can get out this mess Rovers! I don't care if I get stick for these comments I'm open minded to opinions and last night opened my eyes to what we can achieve if the protests stop and we get behind our team I feel bad that I didn't go to the match it's the first I haven't been in years I will always hate Kean for his comments on the fans and I don't agree with his tactics but we are all in this together so let our voices and the players effort be what keeps us up this year We all know Keans job won't last forever Rovers till I die!
I will be the first to admit I have written on here giving Kean stick but I agree with Shear B. Last night when Newcastle got the result back to 2-2 in the dying minutes of normal time a team with no fibre would have collapsed, heads down. We didn't give up at all and the effort from the team led to us winning the game in the last minute.

If you are going to have a balanced point of view you can knock Kean when we get beat (as I have done) but I have to give him some credit for last night.

If the team can keep up the effort and momentum against Norwich, where I'm sure most believe only a win is good enough then surely it will come and I hope will create the spark to keep us going.

Protesting has helped to show the fans are not happy, but it's now starting to turn in to a which hunt and so its point is becoming diluted and making the fans look silly.

It's time to back the team fully and if the wins keep coming and Kean is still in charge so be it. Rovers will be the winners and that's all I want. Starting at Norwich please !

Please, Please, Please, stop speaking for 99% of the fans, you really don't know that do you?
.
He isn't the right man for the managers job, I have said so many times but all this crap being dished out to him by the Allardyce luvies isn't helping the club one iota.
.
He is a decent coach, he has a good eye for decent, young players but lacks the experience and probably the budget to attract the experienced players, which we desperately need.
.
But there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever the players he has are playing for him.
.
And that has to count for something.
.
I ask again, who on earth do you think we will get in to replace him when he is sacked?, I can't see any experience PL manager working for Venky's with their lack of knowledge of what is required, can you?
.
If you can please name one that won't expect a £100 million budget for a complete new backroom staff plus players?
.
Because to stay in the PL that is about the going rate, look at Stoke and Sunderland, what they have spent this year just to stand still, ffs.

£100m to stay in the PL? It never used to cost us anywhere near that. In fact we often spent less than we had taken in. The difference between then and now though, is that we had people at the club who knew what they were doing.

Foxy, absolutely correct, I sometimes feel that these demonstrators, although desperate like the rest of us for the Club to succeed, really don't understand the effect their negativity will eventually have on the team, especially the younger players.
.
No-one likes criticism, even if it isn't aimed directly at them it will eventually affect them.
.
Its a self fulfilling prophesy, it will drive players we have developed like Ollson, Hoilett, Samba and others away when the transfer window opens.
.
Who will we replace them with? what decent players will want to come to a Club at the bottom of the league, sign for a manager who some of the fans hate and is likely to be "Sacked in the morning"?
.
Especially when the good players we do have will be leaving.
.
Crackers, they just cant see it.

Exactly what I'm saying

I had nothing to say before yesterday that wasn't anti-Kean to the point I regretfully didn't go to the match but I watched the match at home and I think the way we are becoming in protest is obsessive

When I watched the match I saw an empty Ewood which is what all us protesters wanted but the fans that was there got 100% behind the team the player repayed that with the amount of effort they put in each and every one of those players looked shattered but were still running their hearts out Givet was playing with a hamstring injury if had snapped that his career would have been over without a doubt he was getting called to come off and he wouldn't I haven't seen that kind of determination and love for the club at Rovers ever and it showed through the whole team

Like I said we have had our say now lets put down our pitchforks and start supporting the players we don't have to like the manager but he isn't going we just need to deal with it though he is rubbish never underestimate the power of the 12th man and players having that extra bit of effort

I was for the protest to begin with so the club knew that we wasn't happy but now it needs to stop agreed we need to get behind our team but you can't start judging people for their opinions we all want the same thing at the end of the day

I was trying to say stop the protests because we need to keep showing that fighting spirit which was shown last night besides when Newcastle equalised

It wasn't good seeing an empty Ewood last night, but I fear that the longer Kean is in place, the more empty seats will appear.
Cant argue with you there Stone, our owners don't have a clue and they are definitely not at Ewood.
.
Simple sad fact of life, the top clubs in the PL have money to burn and are running away with it, the rest of us are sprinting to stand still.
.

Kean you egg, you played your strongest side against a Newcastle team that had no Leon Best, Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Chek Tiote?
Forest almost beat this Newcastle side in the last round!!
The scary thing is they had 2 definate penaltys turned down!!
We were so so lucky, dont get me wrong im greatful were through but jesus lets not get carried away.
Plus Newcastle had more fans at the ground than Rovers, that to me is utterly disgusting.
Kean will no doubt send a DVD of this to the Venkys and it will be on sale in the shop at £6.99

What a crying shame!
Fantastic game with very few supporters there to witness it. The players AND management deserve huge credit for the performance. To go level from two great goals and then go on and win with the current cloud over the club and more noise from the away support shows real character.
The players showed what they were all about and Kean was embraced by the fans sat in front of me at the end. The club should have had lower prices and the service on the concourse was attrocious but apart from that a superb effort. Sick of the moaning brigade now. Been going to Rovers for 30 years and doubt if i ever so as much effort put in by the team under such pressure. Well done lads and well done Steve Kean

What a good post!
Wish the other idiots on here noticed what you did.
The ref gave very little to Newcastle (thier penalty was awarded by the linesman)
plus they had 4 of thier regular first team out.
That was Darren Perch's first game at centre half and he was awful.
WE would be nothing without Junior and Olsen.
That Newcastle back 4 was changed from thier Prem back 4.

RobbyRover says...

Great win and by all accounts a great effort from the players .Can’t for the life of me understand why he played a stronger outfield team last night then he did on Sunday? The big test for just how much of a muppet the manager is will be his team selection for Saturday. I’m sure I don’t have to remind you of the Wolves game where he said “the biggest positive was Formica” then dropped him. If Roberts is anywhere near that team on Saturday (let alone on his bill up front) then for me every effort needs to be restored to get the Donut out.

Can’t ignore last night that the Toon were without some of their best players so far this season – Steven Taylor and Cheik Tiote were out injured whilst Ryan Taylor was rested – but all credit to the Rovers.

I’m sick of hearing the word used totally out of context, but lets not ignore the positives this time. I don’t think at any stage this season the fans have not been 100% behind the team. Even with the protests going on we’ve all been fantastic during the 90+ minutes the lads have been on the field and that is commendable. The players are giving it their all and it’s wonderful to see.

Let’s not get carried away though. We’re almost ¼ way through the season and we’ve got 5 points. Is a good cup run worth it? I’m sure Scott Dan would disagree – he left a European side to play in the Premiership this season, remember.

I will never respect Steve Kean. He’s proved himself to be a tactical moron, not to mention being a major factor in the great John Williams leaving and his constant stream of insulting, deluded trollop. I refuse to acknowledge him as our manager and as such am not listening to a single word he says from now on. Not sure my heart can take it!

I hope to God we can turn it around and the players are certainly doing their bit. Over to he-who-can-not-be-na
med to play the right players and employ the right tactics. One thing is certain – if Rovers do manage to achieve anything this season, it’s down to the players and the fans.

Over to he-who-can-not-be-na med to play the right players and employ the right tactics. One thing is certain – if Rovers do manage to achieve anything this season, it’s down to the players and the fans. RobbyRover

Rochina looked better, but tries to do too much and would be more effective keeping it simple. It wasn't good seeing an empty Ewood last night, but I fear that the longer Kean is in place, the more empty seats will appear.
What a good post! Wish the other idiots on here noticed what you did. The ref gave very little to Newcastle (thier penalty was awarded by the linesman) plus they had 4 of thier regular first team out. That was Darren Perch's first game at centre half and he was awful. WE would be nothing without Junior and Olsen. That Newcastle back 4 was changed from thier Prem back 4.
Very observant - Rochina was brought down for the Pen. We won for gods sake. The team played well. The effort was fantastic. Give them a break and start supprting them. Newcastle had a good team out and most of their changes were forced. We also had Nzonzi, Robinson, Dann, Nelsen, out.

I've never heard either Jack Walker Stand or Riverside voice anything through good or bad so to say anything about the Blackburn or Darwen end is wrong don't judge people for having an opinion which isn't going to change because of one good display by the efforts of the players Steve Keans tactics were wrong again last nights performance has changed my mind about protests we have had our say but despite everything the players are now putting in more effort than ever which is why I think no matter how much Kean gets it wrong if we can show that fighting spirit as fans and players we have a chance but the Jack Walker end and Riverside won't have any of that input towards that spirit will they? I never said I was sitting there spectating, I like a sing song along with the rest and I have a season ticket in the Blackburn End but singing "We want Kean out" inbetween full time & extra time? Unfurling the banner? have a word with yourself - is that fighting spirit? Will the players look upto the Blackburn End, see that and feel inspired?? Personally I doubt it
Foxy, absolutely correct, I sometimes feel that these demonstrators, although desperate like the rest of us for the Club to succeed, really don't understand the effect their negativity will eventually have on the team, especially the younger players.

But I wouldn't say what you said about the protesters some of them have had season tickets their since before any of us were born yeah the protest should not happen anymore but you are insulting your fellow fans
Apologies, the last thing I want to do is insult genuine fans, and as for the length of time being a season ticket holder, well my first one was bought in or around the late 70's, so I have seen it all.
I understand that i really do and I can understand you being frustrated about how the protests are still going on but my grandad is still part of the protest he has been a supporter all his life and he is in his 80s now he thinks he is doing whats right for Rovers I'm not saying I know better but I doubt it is because of the effort the players have been putting in when we have been behind them it's just difference in opinion really

Cant argue with you there Stone, our owners don't have a clue and they are definitely not at Ewood.
.
Simple sad fact of life, the top clubs in the PL have money to burn and are running away with it, the rest of us are sprinting to stand still.
.
Am I wrong?
Not really. I deplore what Man City are doing, and wish them nothing but failure. It's getting harder than ever to survive in the PL. You either need a ridiculous amount of money, or very shrewd people at the club. Unfortunately, we have neither.

Under the previous regime, a lot of fans questioned the clubs ambition, and said we were just standing still. They were right, to a point. But what was the alternative? If you spend more than you earn, eventually, you will go bust. We had to sell, just to survive.

I was lambasted by a few on here for saying, that for a club like Rovers, survival in the PL, WAS success.
I still stand by that. I'd be delighted to finish 4th from bottom this season. But, I think we have a squad of players that should be finishing in the top ten, unfortunately, we don't have a manager capable of leading them there.

This was a great win and should be able to boost the players to be more clinical in their finishing especially in Premier League.
Should Mr Kean played these players regularly, we'll be getting more wins in no time. I'm sure.
No offense Roberts, you got your chances but you didn't take them, now we should be selecting players that can score goals.
It's time to make a smart move one at a time starting with the Norwich game.
Rovers Always The Winners!

This is 1 of the things that rattles alot of supporters the most.

When players have a good game, they are dropped and we don't see/hear why that has happened, because the next game they do get they play well sometimes core etc etc.. and then dropped again.

People hwo say Newcastle where under-strength are being a harsh though.. if that's the case, we didn't play Simon, Formica, Dann or Robinson..? And.. N'Zonzi wasn't even on the bench.

2 of Newcastle's goals I think Robbo would have saved, Bunn was very close with the first and the penalty.

We did make 5 changes from Spurs? N'Zonzi, Roberts, Formica, Simon and Robbo all dropped. That's a pretty big chunk of players. If Newcastle complain about missing players they obviously have no depth in their squad?

I'm far from pro-Kean but you can't take it away from them that we had a good win.

An observation on Twisted Logic
We only won because Newcastle had a weak team.
Newcastle scored because Kean got tactics wrong
Ewood was empty
Anybody see the twists?
Rovers made changes too not least no Robbo who might have prevented first goal
Toon got it back to 2-2 because ref added 5 minutes to a half with no stoppages bar subs and then played over 6 minutes, equaliser timed at 90+6.34 on BBC
Ewood was empty they say but were not you non fans carrying out a boycott...cant have it both ways
Anyway lets see on Saturday, got a good feeling about it myself, but I am deluded and a f**kwit according to the Sutty/Reg et all persona
Happy b*****d though...

I agree which is why us fans need to dig deep stop the protest and get behind our team that way if there heads are down we put them back up again

If last night proved anything it was that if we get behind them they will work as hard as possible thats why we should concentrate on them not Kean I've never seen this amount of consistent effort I believe certain players are completely and utterly in love with Rovers and are working their socks off to try and keep us up and if they weren't playing for us they would be beside us singing their hearts out lets not let them down like Kean let us down!

This could be the start of Rovers come back but the fans need to be the 12th man

If we go down it's not just Keans fault or Venkys it would be as much ours and the players

I’m sure I don’t have to remind you of the Wolves game where he said “the biggest positive was Formica” then dropped him.
I was supporting them you clown, unlike 14000 other fans who never turned up!
Half the muppets in the Riverside had left by the time Newcastle equalised.
The support for this club is disgusting, makes me sick but il always be there even if im on my own.
Nelsen has been out for ages, Dann got bullied last time we played NUFC, Nzonzi would have done no better and we play more hoofball with Robbo in goal.

Missed my 1st home "league cup" game in over 36 years last night, not by choice, recovering from bilateral hernia op. so cant actually walk or sit without pain.
By all accounts we(rovers) did well and long may it continue, i'm sure all on here would like us to go on an unbeaten run up to christmas, all the games between now and then have to come into the winnable catagory.
Only time will tell but have no doubt, because we have beaten a premier league team in the cc does not mean we are on the up, cup games are what they are one-offs and it will mean nothing come 5 o'clock saturday have we not taken all 3 points in norfolk.
Next up at ewood we have chelski who can be beaten with a fighting spirit displayed on the hallowed surface last evening, and beyond that all games must produce at least a point.
I love rovers and will say again hate what is happening under the current leadership(owners closely followed by steve kentaro/kean), and would love them to prove the doubters(me included) wrong, problem is i just cant see it happening.
I would go as far to say i would have his name tattoed on my @rse should he not drag us down into the championship.
My support for rovers is unquestionable, i have never booed a rovers player but plenty a manager (john pickiering, jim iley, brian kidd & paul ince all spring to mind). He(kean) is there to take the flack but i have never known a manager to dismiss the paying public and treat them with contempt.
We are the lifeblood of this great and beloved club and without the likes of us supporting our home town(or adopted) club through the really hard times, uncle jack might not have had much to pump his fortune into for us ALL to enjoy the rollercoaster that has been the last 20 years.
I dont wish kean well, I wish rovers well, i will carry on supporting rovers and will carry on deriding kean until he shows us respect and realises what kind of situation the club is in, if we dont collect points (in the next 2 weeks and beyond) and kean is still in charge we will be back at turid moor next season, and i'm not the best of plumbers.

This is the 1st time I have commented on here, I come on and read what you lot put but this time I feel the need to make my point.

I was at the game last night, like every other game & have a season ticket. To be honest if you were there I don't think you could slate the team one bit!

I'm by no means a fan of Kean but I am a fan of Rovers & think all this negativity DURING the game does not help in any way.

Last night the lads couldn't have played any better & fought any more for each other and the fans if we had Sir Alex at the helm.

If you were there you'd have seen the passion in their faces when they scored & you'd have felt how much they wanted to win it, as a team & for us.

Fair enough they made mistakes but doesn't every team?

I know its only one game & we need to seriously sort it out in the league but credit where credits due, no?

Good, exciting game well played & well deserved. Great support from the fans (shame there weren't a few more down) Same again at the weekend please lads.

Like most on here you moan when we win and moan when we lose, Kean will not be here if we lose three more games and you will have got your way, but do you class yourselves as real supporters or just moaners?

What a great result, I hope its the first of many. Moaners should have the day off today and just revel in it. Some have forgotten how to take in a victory.

Again I agree, survival in the PL for a Club like Rovers is paramount although I don't share you ambivalence towards City, the only reason being there is absolutely nothing to stop them doing what they are doing, so you can't blame them, and its good to see other teams like Spurs breaking up the cartel as well.
.
Its a pity we can't be in the same boat but thats life.
.
But I don't believe in survival at all costs and the brain numbing tedium inflicted upon us by our much lamented (not by me) previous manager was not for me.
.

Get real, you where no doubt f-ing and blinding at Kean and his staff and you don’t like it when you get a mouthful back, what do you expect, I went down a did what most supporters did “Watched the match” I enjoyed it, the good and the bad, I stuck by the team till the end and on this occasion we WON, I went against Spurs and although we did not win 96% of supporters I so were clapping as they left as the team had given everything. Like most on here you moan when we win and moan when we lose, Kean will not be here if we lose three more games and you will have got your way, but do you class yourselves as real supporters or just moaners?
You went down to give advice to Kean, unbelievable,I'
m not sure Keans the right man for the job but I wouldn't like to think he was taking advice from the crowd, your the nearest you'll get to the bench live with it.
I'm a doubter but I can enjoy a win lets everybody do the same the protest is getting out of hand.

What a great result, I hope its the first of many. Moaners should have the day off today and just revel in it. Some have forgotten how to take in a victory.
Well done everyone
some have forgotten what happened after the arsenal victory, and how it was supposed to be the start of something big. we shouldnt be going overboard like a lot of the posters on here. take the victory for what it is. lets see what happens next.

Fantastic result agent Kean!!!!!

You can now report back to the slumdog millionaires and convince them that alls well and BRKFC were the first team to beat newcastle (we know it was their reserves)

Next mission is to return from Norwich with exactly the same number of points that you earned last night.

DOWN WITH THE MACKEMS YA GOING DOWN WITH THE MACKEMS!!!!!

A good performance and a result to match. Nobody can deny the players put in 110% effort last night but there are lessons to be learnt still.

Rovers missed an opportunity to win over the fans bearing in mind it was half term week why did they price Adult tickets at £20 - a cut price £10 and £5 for a child or £20 for 2 adults and 2 children would have been appreciated. It almost felt like an away game with Toon Army there.

Football wise wow if that had been a league game Rovers would have dropped 2 points through 90th minutes goals - albeit superb strikes. Why for the freekick when one knew what was coming we didnt have a defender drop back on the line it would have made it difficult atleast

One felt at the end of 90 mins only 1 team would win but Rovers dug in well I only hope their efforts dont result in a tired performance at the weekend.

Teamwise Jason Lowe should now be the regular right back, Yakubu while not as tall as Roberts puts himself about well really strong and deserves a prolonged run. Rochina brilliant footballer but tries to be clever in the wrong areas too often while Hoillett needs to take the risk and shoot more after his jinky runs.

We are not yet a good side but Rovers are progressing if the Manager keeps a settled side and has everyone closing down quickly there is hope - standards have been set and must be maintained.

Fans have the right of an opinion and to state it freely but not during the 90 minutes we must be totally committed to the Rovers cause whoever is managing. I still blame Venkys for our problems first and last

Congratulations agent kean, That will keep the tramps off your back, So enjoy your next holiday to india pal, One thing Venkys may be a little concerned about is last nights attendance

Just 10,000 could be bothered to turn up and 6000 of those were from newcastle, what more could venky do for the mass's of unemployed tramps of blackburn, tickets are cheaper than accy stanley

Spot on. It means nothing. We do not have the depth of squad to get to the final and stay up. DKO

This results means nothing if we lose at Norwich and start to slip further of the pace at the bottom, then and only then will this be a good result. The Carling Cup isn't high in the battle for survival.

Well what can i say, some people are out of hand on here, and some need to get real... the game last night, was fab, there was protesters there, not many, as most even proper fans didnt wana pay 20 quid... the game, was to and throw, it wasnt as good as people said, we threw away an easy 2-0 lead yet again, and nearly messed it up in extra time, newcastle didnt roll over, who ever said they did, didnt go to the game, sk changed the team and line up yet again, there is nothing much to take from the game, we won, but its the cup, we arent going to win the cup, you cant take any good from it, cos kean will change the team again, and any consistancy will be gone, any1 that think we can roll over norwich wake up, there gave chelsea a great game, so the rovers have to go there to win, coyb
