FULL-TIME: QPR 1 Blackburn Rovers 1
4:50pm Saturday 15th October 2011 in Blackburn Rovers match reports
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
FULL-TIME: QPR 1 Blackburn Rovers 1
SKIPPER Chris Samba rescued Blackburn Rovers a point at Loftus Road this afternoon - but results elsewhere saw Steve Kean's men drop to the bottom of the Premier League.
Samba's 24th minute towering header cancelled out Heidar Helguson's fortuitous opener as Rovers battled for a hard-earned point.
QPR dominated possession for the majority but they were unable to create too many clear cut chances to test Paul Robinson.
A defensive-looking Rovers only threatened in glimpses, with wingers Martin Olsson and Junior Hoilett appearing capable of catching Rangers on the break.
QPR started well and on 16 minutes they broke the deadlock, as Rovers defence were left standing.
Alejandro Faurlin's right wing corner was headed towards goal by Heidar Helguson only to be blocked on the line by Joey Barton.
But, as Rovers failed to clear, Helguson picked the loose ball up and his chipped cross to the far post sailed into the net.
Barton almost doubled the lead minutes later but on 24 minutes Rovers were level after their first meaningful attack of the game.
Jason Lowe's left wing corner was met by Chris Samba at the far post and his powerful header flew past Paddy Kenny for the equaliser.
The hosts continued to dominate though and Shaun Wright-Phillips should have done better on the half hour mark when, in acres of space, he wildly fired wide.
Rovers gradually got a foothold in the game and could have taken the lead four minutes before half time after a mazy run from Junior Hoilett.
The winger beat three defenders as he cut inside from the left but his weak shot was easily cleared by Anton Ferdinand.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were a non event as neither side were able to gain control of proceedings.
The hosts still enjoyed the majority of the possession but were not looking capable of hurting a solid looking Rovers.
That should have changed on 72 minutes when home substitute Adel Taarabt raced clear on Rovers' goal but with just Paul Robinson to beat, his fluffed shot bobbled horribly wide.
Rovers almost won it in the dying seconds but Olsson's powerfully hit drive was well parried wide by Kenny.

Mis-placed passes.
Long balls.
Head tennis.
One up top.
An anonymous to pedestrian midfield.
A goal from a set piece.
Didn't Allardyce get ditched because of this?
1 scrappy point against another poor side who will be vying with us for bottom spot. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Come on Venkys, you say you're in it for the long haul. Everyone can see that he just speaks in empty sound bites and as he said himself, judge him on his results. Despite two transfer windows, it's not good enough by a long way! Get rid now and save money in the long run.
You have said, you have advisors, don't know who could possibly advise you as badly other than maybe Burnley supporters. To be honest, you wouldn't do as badly if you were using Chinese fortune cookies.

Keano's team selections prove he thinks this as well (even though he allegedly hand-picked them all).
However, not even trusting them with 15 mins to try and turn round a poor game against another very poor side..........Please Venkies get a grip. This squad of players will be relegated by Christmas if you don't do something and the only lever left for you to pull is to change the Manager!
You were quick to make the change last time on far less evidence...

He has now got us were it has been obvious to every supporter that he would get us to. He has fulfilled his potential and got us to the bottom of the Premier League. Unfortunately, our owners, who are under his spell, will be told by him that this is the start of the push for the Champions League. He bought 3 strickers in the transfer window and still plays Roberts. No wonder Samba had to score the only goal. Roll on a good protest next Sunday - Venkys have to know that we, the fans, will never take to this man, no matter how good they tell us he is - results never lie. He is a gold plated loser. The supporters do not want this man. I am having to defend myself as a supporter of the Club with other people and I do not like it. Who is going to save us from this man? Perhaps Spurs will give us a hand.

I saw Rao's interview on BBC today, he thinks that "98% of the fans are happy". Sounds like he's been listening to SK eh? We all know in reality it's that stat is the wrong way round.
Boy Venkys will be in for a shock at home to Spurs next. We will show them that Keans spin-doctoring has mis-led them, our chants will be more voracious then against Man City.
Remember folks, this isn't about a point away at QPR today, or a 4-0 defeat last week. This is about Keans DISGUSTING record as a football manager thus far. We have won 3 of our last 20 odd league games. Thank god the national media are now picking up on it. No doubt Kean will be on about the positives from today, about how we're on a "positive run" following our win against Pune FC and our draw today. The guy is a deluded fool.
Kean out, and if our owners don't do the decent thing then either they are as barmy as he is, or they're crooks who are happy to see us relegated and sell our best players so they can leave with big profit. Either way it will be VENKYS out as well if Kean stays as "manager".

- Why buy strikers in the window and continue to start with Roberts and his terrible scoring record?
- What does Vuckevic have to do to get a game?
- Why only make 1 substitution? (like for like). We have a whole host of attacking talent on the bench, why not try and go for a win?
- Nice direct play/long ball today. What's happened to the 'Stevie Kean football vision'?
Truth is the Steve Kean footy vision will see us in the Championship next year. No doubt as a laughing Big Sam takes up West Ham in our place (nice dull 4-0 win for them today).

To be fair to kean, goodwillie has been ill and yak was ineffective v city (although not necessarily his fault), JR is the only player who could play up front on his own, and so the only choice really, 1 up front isn't the most inspiring formation but is hardly unusual for a team playing away from home.
What I dont understand tho is why we only made 1 sub. When are we going to see vukevic? And one of either formica or rochina would have livened things up as well. I just dont understand the tactics or the subs that kean makes.
Very poor defending as well at times, too much time given in our own penalty area and were lucky not to concede again about 2mins after the 1st goal. Also, sad as it is, Salgado is a shell of the player he was – hes a massive liability and shouldn't be anywhere near our first team. Were still very poor in defence – which is a problem that weve had all season and hasnt been sorted out!
I would like to see steve kean go but still think hes got a couple more games, up to 10 games in I think, poor result v spurs and norwich and I think hes gone, but not before I don't think!

Action NOW - or we're doomed ... got to start getting points NOW!!! We must be intouch come January and out of it by the end of that month!

.
In reality though - their were 2 very very poor teams out there today (it is clear to me already that Rovers, Swansea, QPR, Wigan and possibly WBA are playing for the 3 relegation spots).
.
Is it only me that thinks that SK dosent know his best starting 11 ??
.
Why does he never pick "his own players" - out of the 7 or 8 he has signed only 2 started and Vuckavic, the most senior player in terms of experience (apart from Yak) has not started a single game yet (why buy him??) yet he was fit enough and good enough to play 90 mins against England last week - and played quite well, especially as the game went on.
.
You have had money in 2 transfer windows and you still pick JR (pants today as per usual) in front of the 2 signings you have made, Yak and Goodwillie, well what does that say about what you think about the players you have signed ??
.
Why does Salgado get picked at all - he is a total LIABILITY - although its not ideal you could have put JL at RB and SV at right wing and this would have made us more solid defensively and would have given us another attacking option ?
.
For all those posters on here that said judge him now he has his own players in - I say, tell me how you rate this manager as "his players" NEVER get picked ?

A change in manager will keep this club in the premier league.
Kean is the worst manager ever. Clueless in his football philosophy (is it attacking or is it defending? Why bring in attacking players to the club to play big sams formation/style? at least stick to the script and go down blackpool style (imagine holloway with this team))
Clueless tactics
Failing to motivate his players
Horrible media skills
There is no way the brazilian denis irwin can be worse than salgado at this point. Why on this earth sign him to never play him?

We are an established Premier League club, we have been for some time. The only reason we will "get found out" is by very poor management from the top down. In case you had forgotten, these owners promised cup wins and top eight finishes. Not to mention Champions League, or was that Europa League? Depends on what retraction you listen to I guess. As for the Kean out bandwagon, well let me put it to you this way; 3 wins in 22 matches. Is that not reason enough for the loyal fans of this club (just because they didn't attend today doesn't make them otherwise, do you know people's financial circumstances?). High horses are not places to be when we have just slipped to the very bottom of the league.

Please don't have a go at other fans just because they weren't at the game today, you and I both know how bad Kean has been for our club. You just slated him yourself.
Well for one, being at the game means you can comment on it. We are indeed established and long may it continue but the reality is that we start every season hoping this isn't the one when go down. And that was the case long before Kean was ridiculously appointed. Our management/ownership is poor but what do you expect them to promise, relegation? 3 wins is worse than useless and it hurts to see us play so badly but a change of manager rarely improves things. I will forgive you the 'high horses' comment.

Kean wasted the chance to spend the little money well and seems unable to pick a team to do any sort of job.
A new manager will have to start again and attempt to use the existing players into a respectable unit and also play the market very well to bring in at least four players capable of playing in the premier league from day one.
Sacking kean has to be now because I feel it already maybe to late. However I don't think its going to happen because I'm not sure Venkys have any idea who to appoint to provide the miracle we need.

Singing that Goodwillie can rape who he wants (I assume that's the chant you are referring to) is certainly not something I would want to be associated with! I was at the game and actuallybthought there was some improvement, but Kean still has to go now. This was the type of game that we should win if we are to survive in this league, and Kean sat back for a draw.
Dave, you really have missed the point. I am far from an SK fan but i am a BR fan and that's all that counts in my book in the long term. While your grow up comment is such a cheap throw away line. And i did say something to the guys behind me and i bet you can guess their response. As for the 4 year old comment, good grief man.

"not the manager necessarily" For god's sake grow some balls.
I don't come on here that often but you really a couple of stars. I've no doubt that if you bumped into Steve Kean you would tell him what a great job he is doing and not to listen to the boo's and Kean out chants.
Do me a favour, if your going to come on here and make a sweeping global criticism of our fans along with stupid comments - don't expect to get off lightly.
And if you are that worried about a boycott providing less income for Venky's in the pocket - I will gladly pay your ticket money if you promise to boycott the Spurs game!

It was indeed the chant, sadly. And even more sadly the morons sang it louder after i suggested they stop and to the obvious discomfort of the women around. We did play better than against City but our tactics were still flawed and Kean did not have the ability to change them against a very average Rangers team. A draw might not be a bad result come May though.

1. A point with somebody else would have been accepted but not Kean and the previous games results.
2. Vukevic needs a game. Against Arsenal I thought he gave great cover for Lowe @ RB, who needs to replace Salgado really.
3. Which leads to Bruno.. he atleast needs a test and today would have been perfect. If he isn't upto it, Lowe @ RB with Vukevic as cover is the best option - as mentioned above against Arsenal I thought they linked up well.
4. Petrovic - needs dropping or b@llocking. He needs to wake up and speed up, his distribution and alertness etc is terrible. It's like he's 20stone when he turns to face the opposing goal, takes him forever. Wake up or get dropped to bench. This is poor.
5. Rochina, Goodwillie, Formica, Yak... impact subs, full starts, whatever. MAKE SOME USE OF THEM. Playing Roberts will not work. Yes he held up the ball OK in the first half but that's not enough. That's also why we have 9 goal scorers this season, coz all he is good for is laying off someone else, and we get lucky.
6. The general fitness of the squad needs a massive increase. We are tired, dead on the legs after 60minutes. Luckily QPR where awful today aswell and had not tempo so it took more like 80minutes before we tired.
7. Is this the turning point of Samba? We need his leadership. If he isnt interested I seriously believe someone else needs the armband, and that man is Martin Olsson. His passion, drive and the way he celebrates makes me believe his blood is blue and white through and through. Balls to Dann, Olsson could very well be the future of Rovers if we gave him a chance. The lad is dedicated and 1 of the only players who has a never say die attitude no matter what the score.
Whatever anyway, roll on Spurs. I hope we win, but hope Kean goes aswell. It's a horrible situation. Can he learn what we all want in a week? No. Can he turn it around before Xmas - probably not. Unfortunately that means we have to be tanned of Spurs and hope Venkys have some balls.
Finally on the Venkys does anyone else think Balaji is the dreamer and Venkatesh is the more serious or the 2? Balaji is the flash ''Kean is brilliant'' deluded idiot of the family, where as Venkatesh atleast sympathizes with the supporters. Maybe he just comes across better and thinks about a reply before opening his mouth? I think it we lose against Spurs though and Venkatesh has anything to do with it, Kean will be gone. Balaji would still believe that we will win a ''atleast 1 cup. because we deserve that''.

You might not agree with the war, the government or the officers, but you fight for your country. Get behind the lads!
*
Diouf the mis-fit? Not missed. Kalinic? Didn't have a fair crack, fair enough, but life goes on.
*
A new manager will not have to start again - you just select a fairly consistent team, play to a system, and build team-spirit and understanding.
*
4-4-2 with Junior and Olsson on the wings will bring goals as long as Roberts, Dunn and Salgado are put out to pasture our flair players are made use of.

Nearly a quarter of a season gone and we have half the points that we need at this stage. But like you say again, lets all leave Steve Kean alone and see what happens. Let's give him until the January transfer window and see who Zahavi and Anderson - sorry Steve Kean brings in.
Any fall in income is bad for the club and no, not for our owners, they will still be fine whatever. And season ticket holders still generate income on match days - programmes, beer etc. Of course we ALL want him to go but support your club in the meantime. It will happen.
Do you really really think that Venky's are the slightest bit worried about what money comes through the turnstiles or a few hundred or even thousand of fans boycotting the games? The money that comes through the turnstiles pays for the Police, stewards and other match day staff/services. This is a multi billion pound industry and the only money that Venky's are interested in is the TV revenue etc. If we get relegated it will cost Venky's a major chunk of their fortune to just stay in the Championship. But the experts - including John Williams - have quite rightly already said that BRFC wont just end up in administration - they will end up in financial meltdown.
We won't be another yo- yo club like West Brom, Wolves or West Ham. We wont even be another Nott's Forrest, Middlesborough, Sheffielf United or Sheffield Wednesday. We will be another Bradford, Swindon or Barnsley at best.
Venky's will then be able to recover all their costs and more by taking the parachute payment and putting us in administration.
That's how real this dream is rovers1.
Despite whats going on we will ALL continue to support the club and the team. I dont agree with protests especially during a game. To be fair they have been well managed but history tells us that protests wont achieve anything because Venky's wont do anything until the Super Agents tell them to do so. And then I guarantee that Venky's will come out and say that we made the decision because we had to listen to the fans!!
I have nothing but admiration for your passion and commitment to the club rovers1 but please stop dreaming. Changes need to happen now but it doesn't look promising! Every game and every week that goes by is more and more crucial towards our survival - not just this season !!

Well Dave at least you make me smile - you are obviously such a good mind reader. Can't recall i said let's not panic but heh, that's just mere detail. Nor did i say leave SK alone but if it helps your argument then why not add it into the mix. Strangely you then actually talk some sense about the long term prognosis for the club if the worst were to happen. But we ain't down yet mate and as a dreamer, apparently, I don't think all is lost. Perhaps you do? And if you do please try not let your pessimism spill over to everyone else, it's tough enough as it is already mate. And if that's me dreaming then so be it. Try and tell me any football supporter that doesn't dream, but most of us understand the reality and we don't need to be told to wake up thanks. Changes will happen but they won't necessarily be for the better, history tells us that as well or was i just dreaming that?!
In the meantime please carry on dreaming. You just sit there in your bob hat, with your flask and your blanket and hope for the best. Please keep shouting "there's only one Keano" and have a great time eating humble pie when we are in deep sh*t - i.e. now!!
